NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell gave retiring Sen. Tom Coburn a musket to thank him for his service, while training his rhetorical fire on President Barack Obama during Thursday’s session of the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Traditionally, the U.S. military has always enjoyed high approval ratings from the American public at large – they support the military in funding; in its non-combat humanitarian missions as diplomatic outreach (such as the US Navy Hospital Ships, USNS Comfort and USNS Mercy); and are, for the most part, proud of the work that the US military does in defending freedom and the highest ideals of “America” –
individual liberty, peace, free trade, domestic stability among the many hallmarks of the “shining city on the hill”. In very few other countries, do so many citizens have direct experience – having served, themselves – or a first degree relative connection to someone who has served in the armed forces. (more…)
The Tea Party is an existential threat to the establishment Republicans.
RUSH LIMBAUGH – “That is a serious charge. That is a very, very serious charge, that the Republican establishment is aligned with Obama and is okay with Obama using the IRS to investigate [i.e., illegitimately break the kneecaps of] the Tea Party. But it’s believable, because we know the Republican establishment, the political class in Washington, is spreading the word that they are not gonna criticize Hillary, it isn’t gonna happen, and we shouldn’t, either.”
Mitch McConnell said two weeks ago on Fox News Sunday the GOP would attach demands to a debt ceiling vote:
“We ought to attach something significant for the country to [Obama’s] request to increase the debt ceiling,” McConnell said. “That’s been the pattern for fifty years, going back to the Eisenhower administration. I think it’s the responsible thing to do for the country. I think he’s the one being irresponsible by saying, ‘Oh, just raise the debt ceiling. We’re not going to do anything about the debt or anything else that’s important to the country.'”
Yet, when the time came to actually deliver on fiscal restraint, it was Mitch McConnell who led the Senate Chamber to give Obama a blank check and raise the debt limit with no fiscal restraint and no demands. (Reuters) – Republican leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday caved in to demands by President Barack Obama and agreed to advance legislation raising Washington’s borrowing authority without conditions.
House Speaker John Boehner, announcing to reporters the plan to advance a “clean” debt limit bill to the House floor on Wednesday, said: “We’ll let the Democrats put the votes up. We’ll (Republicans) put a minimum number of votes up to get it passed.” (link)
UPDATE: (NBC News) – The House has passed a “clean” extension of the debt limit. Twenty-eight Republicans joined all but two Democrats to approve the extension of the debt limit until March 2015 — without any additional legislative wish list items attached.
The vote was 221-201. The Senate is expected to take up the debt limit extension before the end of the week. (link)

In the final analysis the intellectually honest observer would admit the GOP and the Democrats are generally aligned in favor of government control of Healthcare and Immigration, ie. amnesty.
In a recent New York Times article titled “Chastened G.O.P. Tries to Foil Insurgents at Primary Level” you find a typical narrative; Tea Party is EXTREME and GOP is moderate. Searching for an outlier to use as representative Tea Party imagery the Times select Virginian whacko Richard H Black to broad stroke conservatives, while framing ‘moderation’ as the best political course.
Nothing is more annoying than the constant drumbeat to connect outliers in the Alinsky-ization of grass roots concern. Isolate, Ridicule and Marginalize. Then wash, rinse, repeat.
What the GOP fear more than defeat against democrats is losing internal power over Big Business and Big Government. Establishment class Republicans, like those found inside the rolls of the Chamber of Commerce, will fight for their own power hungry ideology with a desperate intent.

David Simon, a former police beat reporter in Baltimore, MD and creator of the popular television series, “The Wire” implies that Libertarians in America are “greedy” and decries Libertarianism as a “juvenile” idea that he “just can’t get past….”
Clearly upset that Fabian ideology is not taking root in the 20-somethings community, while the Libertarian movement is growing as an identified political affiliation in the cohort, he gave a speech in Australia in November, 2013 at the “Dangerous Ideas” conference declaring “Libertarianism in my country is now being taken seriously as an intelligent mode of political thought… it’s astonishing to me… ” (around the 8:00 – 10:00 mark) and then goes on a screed to deliberately disparage and attempt to dismiss the Libertarian school of thought – including the assertion that Libertarians are “anti-government” (as Moyers chuckles along in agreement…) Fraidy cat!
