FLORIDA – A Florida man has been charged in an alleged backpack bomb plot he planned to carry out on a public beach in Key West to show his support for the Islamic State militant group, the Department of Justice said on Tuesday.
Harlem Suarez, also known as Almlak Benitez, 23, of Key West, was arrested on Monday as part of an FBI sting operation and charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction, the department said.
According to the criminal complaint, the FBI was alerted to Facebook posts made by Suarez in April of this year in which he expressed his support for Islamic State.
An FBI informant then made contact with Suarez, who told the informant that he wanted to carry out an attack in the United States. (more…)

ANKARA, Turkey — Turkish jets struck camps belonging to Kurdish militants in northern Iraq, authorities said Saturday, the first strike since a 2013 peace deal as Ankara also bombed ISIS positions in Syria.
The strikes in Iraq targeted the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, whose affiliates have been effective in battling ISIS. The strikes further complicate the U.S.-led war against the extremists, which has relied on Kurdish forces making gains in both Iraq and Syria. (more…)

(CNN) Two former detainees at the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba were arrested by Belgian police in a counterterrorism operation targeting a recruiting network for al Qaeda in Syria.
They were arrested Wednesday night along with three others as they were about to break into a house to raise funds in the town of Hoboken, near Antwerp, a senior Belgian counterterrorism official told CNN.
“We have dismantled a serious recruiting network for Syria,” the official told CNN. (more…)

The shooter was reportedly inside the theater during the attack. Witnesses say several people were shot. According to KATC, State Police confirmed the shooter is no longer active. This is not now confirmed.

They broke in. • Police found a 13-year-old girl stabbed numerous times, barely alive; and a toddler with numerous stab wounds – • And a horrific scene as 5 additional family members were dead. • All stabbed to death. • Two adults and three children.
OKLAHOMA – Five members of a Tulsa-area family were found stabbed to death at their home and two related teenage boys have been taken into custody, Oklahoma authorities said on Thursday.
A sixth family member was taken to a Tulsa-area hospital with critical injuries and a young child was found unharmed and placed in state custody, said police in Broken Arrow, a suburb near Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Police said they were called to the home late Wednesday by a 911 call that had no audible message. They quickly found two adults and three juveniles dead in the residence, police said.
The suspects, teenage boys aged 16 and 18, were tracked down by a police canine officer in a wooded area near the house and taken into custody, police said. (more…)

Anthony Hervey died Sunday after injuries he sustained in a roll-over crash. Hervey’s passenger, Arlene Barnum, has told police that their vehicle was being pursued at the time of the crash, which took place after a pro-Confederate flag rally, in Birmingham Alabama.
[…] The MacAlester News-Capital is reporting that a woman named Arlene Barnham had given Hervey a ride to the rally in Birmingham, Alabama. On their way back to Oxford, they were involved in an accident.
Reportedly, Hervey was driving and feared they were being chased. Hervey told Barnham he noticed a silver car speeding to catch up to them, and then it swerved into their passenger side.
