Requesting Public Records – A Dangerous Endeavor…. Not For The Faint Of Heart

ifihadasonIn a part of Jack Cashill’s latest book, “If I Had A Son – Race, Guns, and The Railroading of George Zimmerman“, Jack outlined a brief snippet of my encounters with M-DSPD Law Enforcement while seeking to obtain public records.      I can tell you from first-hand experience it is dangerous, literally physically dangerous, and nerve wracking.
Because few, if any, citizens attempt to keep public officials focused on the lawful execution of their role/job; and because few, if any, journalists actually do the boot work to gain first-hand information contained within those records,  government officials feel little to no compulsion to comply with the law.
Most of the officials, clerks, administrators, and compliance persons, associated with facilitation of Public Records have no idea what the laws are which should guide their compliance with lawfully requested record fulfillment.   Those that do have some understanding know how to pressure, leverage, manipulate and delay such requests.

It is the policy of this state [Florida] that all state, county, and municipal records are open for personal inspection and copying by any person. Providing access to public records is a duty of each agency.   (Pam Bondi FL Statute 119.01 Public Records)

It is not a mission for the faint at heart.
Persistence is the key.   But organization, preparation and training yourself to stay in control of your “fight or flight” emotion is an absolute necessity.
Here are some recent video-graphic examples of what can and will be encountered. (more…)

Very Appropriate – An Asteroid Named "Trayvon"?

Some are aghast, not me.
TrayvonMartinMySpacePgpic7Enhanced1What could be a more appropriate name for a cold hard object, all alone, travelling in dark empty nothingness, without purpose or self controlled direction;  wandering aimlessly amid the vast unfriendly world of solitude, while devoid of life and hope, just waiting to destruct amid an encounter of another object of similar disposition ?
Yep, that’s the Martin Kid.
(AZ Daily Sun) Albert Einstein. George Takei. Jerry Garcia.
All of those men and many others have had an asteroid named after them. And if William Lowell Putnam III, trustee of Lowell Observatory, has his way, another name will be added to that list: Trayvon Martin.
The retired broadcast executive, alpinist, author and Flagstaff resident believes that Martin has not received justice. (more…)

Chairwoman Fudge On Syria To Congressional Black Caucus – Don't Criticize Dear Leader, "Limit Public Comment"…

I TOO have a dream – that one day we will live in a nation where the CBC will not judge policy based on the color of their skin but by the outcome of its consequence….
….. And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true.  Only then will black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics — be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual: “Free at  last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!”

WASHINGTON DC – As an increasing number of African-American lawmakers voice dissent over the Obama administration’s war plans in Syria, the chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) has asked members to “limit public comment” on the issue until they are briefed by senior administration officials. Their Day In Court – The Florida School Bus Thugs Plead Guilty – The 13-year-old Victim Too Worried of Retaliation To Attend Court…

“Joshua is not that person,” Reddin’s mother said, after seeing the video for the first time.
“That’s really not him,” McKnight’s dad said. “That’s not his character.”
“If someone had told me that, and I had not seen that, I wouldn’t believe it,” said Khemradj’s grandfather, who is raising the boy.

CLEARWATER — There was a Jeykll and Hyde quality to Thursday’s court proceedings, where three 15-year-old boys pleaded guilty to beating a 13-year-old student on a school bus last month.

The boys appeared remorseful and respectful, their heads sometimes bowed.
It was all “Yes, sir” and “No, sir,” sometimes in unison, as Circuit Judge Raymond Gross painstakingly asked them a series of questions after their attorneys announced the trio would be pleading guilty in the July 10 beating.
But then Assistant State Attorney William Schopper asked that the video of the attack — the one that’s gone viral and turned the Gulfport school bus assault attack into a national story — be shown before Gross decided on a punishment.

In it, one of the boys, Joshua Reddin, is seen sitting behind the victim, snarling expletives. Soon, another boy, Julian McKnight, moves from his assigned seat, toward the back of the bus, to the front, near the victim. The pair pocket their cell phones and straighten out their clothing before they and the third boy, Lloyd Khemradj, pounce on the victim. (more…)
