I remember during Trump 1.0, America had become totally self-sufficient, and imported ZERO oil. Our gasoline price in Illinois was under $2.00 @ gallon at that time.
The low point was importing 5.9 million barrels per day in 2020. Currently 6.2 million. And don’t conflate “net imports” (imports minus exports). Mostly the US has replaced OPEC crude imports with Canadian crude.
We have also been drawing down the SPR, so at some point probably should refill it.
I remember too and miss that time. I was so hoping 2.0 would do the same for us!

That part of TX is so sparse of human life, its good to see those land owners actually making money now. I am always amazed that anything can actually survive there. Our refineries can process the light sweet crude. The problem is that the light sweet crude doesn’t produce the heavier products needed. By mixing the the crude types the refinery produces the needed products in the amounts required. It’s also a more efficient way of producing the product. You’re refining once not two separate refining processes.
Carney is so behind the curve he just needs to pack it in and retire to a place on Lake America.

I would venture that with President Trump’s comments on restarting Keystone XL Pipeline from Canada last week we are going to need oil from Canada for a very long time in addition to Venezuelan oil.
Maybe the flow could be in the other direction one day?
I posted a nice video about it about 2 months ago, basically the “subsurface” oil that we used to pump from the beginning ran out.
Hence fracking deeper to get tho the “source” of the oil, but it is not “sour” in the shale/fracked so all of our oil refinery’s were designed to “distill” sour oil.
As I recall the last refinery built was LA in 1978, doubt it was designed for “sweet” crude.
We the USA need to build or convert refinery’s here to do so, and we can stop the import of “sour” crude from/thru the Strait of Hormuz. Talk about cutting off cash flow, if they have a product that their biggest market won’t buy anymore.

Other than the fact that Carney is against “drill baby drill”, Canada has only one major pipeline east (TMX and running at capacity) and none west. Premier of British Columbia David Eby is against oil tankers offshore mucking up his beautiful coast. Northern Gateway (to Kitimat) was cancelled by the federal government in 2016. Shipping to China is more expensive than simply flowing oil south by existing pipelines, thanks in part to high TMX tolls. Indigenous chiefs would have to be bought off. Alberta owns their oil and other provinces hate them for it.

Canada has recently announced that they will be targeting specific states to cause pain before the midterms, and the loonies have escalated the pre-midterm lawfare to target domestic efforts to straighten out our elections.
What does all this mean? Search me, but it sure looks like Trump is inside the OODA loop of the globalists and that both the SAVE Act and USPS moves are probably head fakes, with much bigger, better surprises incoming.
Meanwhile Carney continues to act like he has the winning hand 🤣🤣. Just can’t fix stupid north of the border.
The Canadian people will probably not wake up. I lived in Canada for about 3 years in the 70’s. The only companies that would hire me were foreign companies. I was constantly bombarded with negative comments. I hung out with draft dodgers and didn’t make any Canadian friends except for my in-laws. The Canadians envy and hate Americans. Americans don’t have the same negative thoughts about Canadians, so it’s hard to believe. You just have to look at Doug Ford and his ridiculous comments and see everyone around him cheering him on. Almost all of the companies in Canada are actually American, but with names like Ford Canada. Even the Food Network shows have the same name as American shows but with Canada after them, like “Top Chef Canada.” The resentment runs deep in the Canadian psyche. They will let Mark Carney destroy their country before they wake up.

When I came to Canada from England almost 30 years ago I worked with Liberal elites in Canada (mostly Ottawa, T.O. and Vancouver) and Coastal elites in the US, often at board-level in big FIs and big consumer sector companies.
I was amazed at how most of the these Canadians looked down on or even despised Americans. And neither group worked or socialized with the lower classes. Not what I expected. 🤔
12 years later I switched industries and for the last 16 years I’ve been working with owners and management of mid-sized manufacturing and service companies, across Canada and in what the elites patronizingly call flyover America.
These seem to me to be the real Canadians and Americans that I expected to find. Solid good-hearted, hard-working and mostly Christian family types. Salt of the earth. They have a lot in common between the two countries and respect each other.
But over the last couple of years, TDS has become the overarching obsession of the first group above, and because the MSM here is entirely bought and paid for by the Liberals, it’s spread throughout the population. People outside Canada tend think we’re all of the same mind.
Not sure if there are enough sane Canadians left to affect the necessary changes though. 🙁

In case you missed it, the rationalization up in Canada is “not that big a deal because it will take years for the US to create the infrastructure to be able to refine anything close to Canada’s crude to the US”. BUT, here are the numbers to date. Since January (leader removed in Venezeula), the US has designated Gulf coast refineries to handling Venezuelan crude. They have gotten it up to 500,000 barrels a day without any solid agreement in place. As a comparison, Canada provides 4 Million barrels per day on average. So, without commitment, the US was already importing 1/8th of what Canada provides. And NOW, watch that grow more quickly than Canada would like as stability and a known future falls into place.
Funnier is that Gulf Coast refineries were already optimized many years ago for the heavy sour Venezuelan crude before sourcing Canadian heavy sour crude as a replacement when Hugo Chavez took over in Venezuela.
Switching back to sourcing mostly Venezuelan crude is not that big of a change to make.
Mark Carney will be thrilled with this news.
He believes the only place for oil is in the ground. His friend Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, less thrilled.
This lady is a typical living in the unreality of the Twilight Zone or something. she of course never mentions the horrendous tariffs that Canada has put on her farmers and ranchers automakers most of our industry. When she talks about how they helped us when troops on Juno Beach and how they’ve helped us with Nord and all this other stuff she fails to mention that we paid for all that not them She never mentions the fact that we paid for NATO. Apparently she knows nothing about Canada shipping their crude oil to America to get it refined ’cause they can’t do it we ship it back as refined Not anymore We’re gonna buy it from Venezuela. When the big bubble of truth breaks all over these liberals there’s gonna be tears flowing like water going over to Niagara Falls.

Smith was talking here to the rest of Canada, not the US. The rest of Canada is trying to pressure her to cut off oil to the US or add taxes (tariffs) to it, which is admirable resisting.
