As of 4:30 pm today the U.S. Geological Survey has officially designated the former Lake Ontario to be renamed as Lake America in all official USGS electronic documents.
The change will begin occurring in printed documents over the next several days.
This change has also been made official in the Geographic Names Information System.

I don’t understand how this works. If Carney now decided to counter by using an executive order (or Canada’s equivalent) to say its officially “Lake Canada”, then to the rest of the world, what is it?
Canada and all of its friends will continue to use Lake Ontario.
The USA and its friends will use Lake America.
“Friends” may be defined as those countries looking for the best trade deals or the ones who want to see the USA economically destroyed.

Now make it part of any future trade deal. Before signing, “the Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) shall change all references of Lake Ontario to Lake America, including its Geological Survey of Canada (GSC), Canadian Geographical Names Database (CGNDB). The Geographical Names Board of Canada (GNBC) shall be bound by this change.”
