While I was out gardening, four WWII era fighters made a flyover in the missing man formation. I paused my work, put my hat over my heart, and remembered the sacrifice of all those who lost loved ones in the service of our country. Those planes helped defeat Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan and saved western civilization.
In a month I retire from Raytheon, formerly part of Hughes Aircraft. I have been associated with IR and night vision technology development for 39 years. What has been deployed from our facility on the ground, in the air, and in space has enabled our brave men and women to make it home alive. My coworkers over the years, ranging from PhD solid state physicists to high school graduate assembling our complex devices have done their part to make sure there are fewer Gold Star families in our current operations.
Those who have an empty place at the table today, actually everyday, my prayers are for you.
Thank you Shasta. For those of us with that empty place at the table, every day is Memorial Day….
May they all rest in God’s Peace…🙏🏻💔
I had the good fortune to visit Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery a week ago. It was a beautiful and solemn day, with the National Anthem being sung and Taps played.
A wreath was presented to the vets in our group, and there was not a dry eye in the crowd. We owe so much to those brave boys, who gave their all for us.
I then watched The Longest Day yesterday and was doubly moved, having been on that beach and felt the spirits of those who went before us. God bless them, and God Bless us all.
Thank you so much, Richard Huddleston. This is such a beautiful and deeply touching song. God bless you.
Wasan’t my words was Harrison I just made it a song and video
Can & will you link back to Harrison’s comment please? I’d like to have the ‘lyrics’ he wrote – beautiful poetry without the music.
TIA
Proud mama moment here. My son took my youngest grandson to the National Cemetery this afternoon, where the said the Pledge of Allegiance.
Sounds like a great family experience
Well played, M! 🙂

Does the war in which he was killed for showing his Patriotism have an official name?
{ JUST IN: 69-Year-Old Army Veteran and Owner of ‘Trump House’ in Southern California Dies After Being Brutally Beaten }
I wonder – Does officialdom still class this murder as a covid death?
Is the murderer covid-jabbed, I wonder?… &/or psych drugged – PTSD (family confirmed) diagnosis always gets psych-drugged I’m pretty sure.
PTSD is treated by the VA with SSRI’s. Draw your own conclusions……
Eternal Father, strong to save…….. RIP, CITIZEN-Soldier and Patriot. Prayers are ongoing.
Love, comfort, and blessings to all of you.
“Blessed are you who mourn, for you shall be comforted” – Jesus
May God personally hard-wire into all of us the memory of these soldiers.
To carelessly / casually forget would be a great sin.
Another military veteran gone, but not under wartime circumstances (debatable)

Two simple truths…
Amen to that.
It’s why when many of us visit, we say the names of all those we walk among. There are two deaths one can incur – the first is when our bodies die and we join our Lord and Savior. The second is the last time someone remembers.
If you’re ever in a cemetery visiting a loved one – please say the names of the others you may past – and remember.
Last night, I made a simple request on X. I asked if anybody visiting Arlington National Cemetery for Memorial Day would stop by Alan’s grave and leave a photo for our family.
What happened next honestly caught me off guard.
By this afternoon, dozens of Americans from all walks of life had made the walk to Section 60 to visit SSG Alan W. Shaw. Veterans. Families. Complete strangers. People who had never met Alan, but chose to honor him anyway.
For one day on social media, people put aside the constant noise and negativity and came together for something bigger than themselves. My notifications filled with photos, kind messages, prayers, and stories from people honoring not just Alan, but so many of our fallen heroes.
I don’t think people fully understand what moments like this mean to Gold Star families. The fear is never just losing them. It’s losing them slowly over time as the world moves on and fewer people remember their name.
But today showed me that Alan will never be forgotten.
After years of watching social media reward some of the worst parts of humanity, today gave me a reminder that the good is still out there too.
Thank you to every single person who stopped by to visit Alan today, said his name, shared his story, or took a moment to honor the fallen.
This right here is the America Alan knew and loved enough to fight and die for.
And today, y’all showed us all that it’s still here and it’s still worth fighting for.
ps. That’s Tulsi, in spite of everything going on, that took the time to stop by and leave what is on top of the grave and honor him.
SoW – children remembering.
To all here, consider marking your calendars to check your local VFW around Memorial Day, Veterans Day, for Buddy Poppy fundraisers and buy some.
Thank you for this faithful post, Menagerie. I’ve missed your warm and gracious Christian Holiday posts. I must confess I took them for granted and I’m sorry I didn’t thank you sooner for those, too.
This is so moving, thank you Sundance, for posting this every year, from an Army wife.
Love You Sharing this video every year , Menagerie 💖
