Trump’s flight to Dallas was delayed Wednesday after an emergency slide on the new Air Force One inflated on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews. Trump said workers were checking it and nothing was wrong. The slide was deflated and removed, and the plane took off without incident

That new plane has problems
Boeing holds the patent on the arming mechanism for the emergency slide.
Summary of the invention, paragraph 6: “If the door is opened with the system armed, the escape slide is automatically deployed.”
The firing circuit runs through two switches in series. One closes when the system is armed. The other closes when the inside door handle is moved to open.
Both have to close. It’s not the kind of thing you check. It’s the kind of thing you fire.
There’s a squib in there, a tiny explosive charge, and when it goes it punches a hole in a pressure bottle. There’s no undo. Six seconds later you own a used slide and a placarded door
Like a Navy life raft, but an entire order of magnitude faster. Oops. The background section of the invention LITERALLY SAYS “sometimes personnel open the door following a normal flight and landing without having disarmed the system.
This causes the slide to unfold and inflate, resulting in embarrassment and expense for the air carrier.” He said they were doing a check on it, and that they’d already put it back up. It left on a trailer, pulled by a pickup truck and apparently the plane went to Dallas without it.
