As previously noted and discussed by USTR Jamieson Greer, since the original trip to Beijing was announced several months ago, it was very easy to identify this visit was not a customary ‘state visit’ in the formal sense of the term. Instead, this trip was always planned as a trade, finance and economic business trip specifically to engage Chairman Xi with a financial and investment focus.
I had no idea President Trump aimed that high.

That ship has sailed. The cows are out of the barn. China is a high tech, manufacturing powerhouse. Yes, they steal intellectual property and copy ideas. They also now have become creators and innovators on their own. Short of bombing them, they’re not going to revert to the 1950’s.
It is probably better to show them how to play nice with the rest of the world and demonstrate that they don’t need to be aggressors (think Taiwan). Trump doesn’t see the world as a fixed sized pie that can only be divided up and fought over. He sees making the pie bigger or making multiple pies. Make everyone wealthy and they can afford more pies. We can still be leaders in Ai and win that race. We can still dominate oil/gas production and distribution. America needs to win certain battles and be on top versus China. But it doesn’t have to be a zero sum game. Partner with China in ways that benefit both countries but protects American IP. Show China they can prosper without stealing, dumping, or enslavng (workers and nations).
That’s my guess to what the long term play is.

Can it go toward peace and prosperity? What choices will these players make? Who is sincerely on board with his world view, and who is not? Trump is the ultimate observer. He maintains an open mind and he is an optimist. He listens to people to gain a true sense of what motivates them. Always looking for possibilities of how objectives can be met to the benefit of all. But just like Jesus came to earth so that God may “become flesh and dwell among us”, aren’t we all created in His Image, to let our hands be His hands, our mouth be His mouth, allow our minds to be transformed to be like his mind, to be more and more like Jesus in the way we live?
Donald Trump clearly does not think he is a King, or God, or Jesus. In fact he has expressed on several occasions that he feels unqualified spiritually in many ways.
It would do us all and the world well if each of us would spend as much effort as Donald Trump making every minute of the day improving the physical (feed the poor, hungry, sick, imprisoned, enslaved, children, widows) and spiritual well being of those who are hungry) ad spiritual (help people understand God by telling the story of how God helps us)
I don’t know what Donald Trumps objectives are for this meeting with the CEOs of the richest tech companies in the world and the most abusive and exploitive nation in the world (not that the U.S. doesn’t have such characteristics). Based on my analysis of the fruit of his labor so far, it is not a far fetch to imagine that he is having church with them to show them the will of his Father.
I pray that that is that is the case. And knowing God to the degree that I have come to know him, I’m pretty sure he will be at the meeting as well.

Nvidia’s (NVDA) Jensen Huang was a late addition to President Trump’s trip to China this week. An initial list from the White House had not included the chipmaker, but the CEO joined the flight at a refueling stop for Air Force One at Anchorage International Airport on Tuesday night.
Huang’s initial lack of attendance may have been due to worries among more hawkish national security leaders in the White House regarding his willingness to push Trump toward opening up the Chinese market, said Henrietta Levin, senior fellow at CSIS and the director for China under the Biden administration’s National Security Council.
But Trump himself apparently overrode those concerns, with Semafor reporting that the president called Huang himself to extend the invitation in spite of concerns that his presence could be a political liability.

That mall is unbelievable… visitors could easily make it a vacation destination and never leave the confines of the hotel and mall. POTUS will want to return home and build one bigger and better! LOL
I find this concerning. We need to rebalance our relationship with China and continue to bring back significant amounts of manufacturing to CONUS. Partners with China – perhaps, but we must NOT be dependent upon them for anything other than toys. Manufacturing in China is a One-Way knowledge transfer – that is a suicidal path.
