Politicians get almost all of their campaign funds from corporations, the wealthy elitists who own most of the stock in the U.S., and PAC funds that include contributors of foreign interest (like China) who use them as a financial lever. You’ll never see a roll call vote to change the rules governing a filibuster to require those actually in opposition to hold the floor as long as those pretending in front of the cameras, like Thune, are themselves in opposition. There’s no horse trading in going back to a system that guarantees that, somewhere along the line, a bill will have to reach the floor, regardless. That’s why the talking filibuster requirement, which was the standard for decades, was eliminated.

I saw that article over on TGP posted this morning about Mark Meadows revealing which Republican Senators he believes are ready to go the ‘standing’ filibuster route to pass the SAVE Act and which are “still dragging their feet” over it. He lists 25 Senators who have signalled support and 28 who are either against it or who simply haven’t said anything either way.
The 25 in favor range from those who definitely want it to pass it to the likes of Cornyn, who wouldn’t be among them except for how his reelection effort is going. So 25 is the optimistic take and could turn out to be fewer than that.
Of course the 28 on the against list include McConnell and all of the RINOs who were always in his pocket, Thune among them. The article does not name the ones who are staying silent so far, but in this case silence may as well mean they are against passing the Act. Simply disgusting.
Instead of getting paid off for those H1-B visas, President Trump should announce a 80% (would prefer a higher percentage) on all remittances. MAGA.

As the Senate rules stand now, the Republicans need 60 votes for cloture before the SAVE Act can move to the floor for a vote. Apparently, there are now 50 votes in favor and VP Vance would break the tie.
People are now pushing for a rule change back to a talking filibuster – a senator has to stand in the well and talk to stall a bill. That’s the way it was until 1917 when Pres. Wilson had Senate Democrats come up with the first cloture vote rules.
So Thune can’t get a simple majority of Republicans for a rule change.

I also told her that a vote against this legislation will result in me not voting for King’s son, who is running for Governor.
