(VIA BLOOMBERG) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she had a “cordial” conversation with Donald Trump on Thursday, discussing trade and security issues ahead of the review of the North American free trade deal.
Sheinbaum said the review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement will continue as planned and that she and the president discussed tariffs and non-tariff barriers in their latest call.
Mexico’s leader added that Trump invited her to the US but that no date has been set for what would be their second in-person meeting.
On security, Sheinbaum offered that both leaders are pleased with the level of cooperation so far between their two countries. Trump agrees “that we are making progress in the general understanding we have,” she told reporters at her regular daily media briefing, without offering more details.

I know the history of trade with Mexico has been one sided. But there is no reason to believe that President Trump and the Mexican Gov’t are not capable of bringing great mutual prosperity to both countries while securing boarders and eliminating the drug and illegal alien flows. The Cartels are the pivot point, but cut them in on the legitimate business and maybe they give up the drugs. That is Mexicos to navigate.
A prosperous Mexico means less reason for illegal invaders to want to come especially if we cut off the “gibmedats” that flow to illegals. I am all about Making Mexico Great… Now… as long as it reinforces MAGA!

I talked with an immigrant today. I asked him how he was doing. He replied that he was tired . He said that he works 12 hrs a day – seven days a week.
The thing is I see this guy four of his seven days and he always has a smile on his face and says hello.

I have a lot of respect for that! When I was a kid, a lot of immigrants in our neighborhood were called Grandma and Grandpa by the kids I went to school with. Real low tolerance for mischief, no foul language, most flew the US a flag every day, all had a big garden and backyard rabbits or chickens.
Immigrants didn’t make it to the shores of America without being thoroughly vetted FIRST at home country!
My Oma came through Ellis Island under contract with a sponsor. She milked cows and cooked at a dairy farm in Wisconsin. After paying off her fare to the USA, she joined her brothers in Chicago, met another immigrant man, and they made a nice life and family.

I have a bunch of immigrant family (grandparents, great aunts and uncles) who did very well in this country (and some avoided being in Germany during the 1930s and 40s). They started out in cold water flats that they shared with rats until their hard work and perseverance helped them start a business and do quite well. The business still exists (since the 1930s).

Illegals have been offered $1000 and a free flight back to their home country. They also have the promise that if they leave the country this way they will still be allowed to apply for legal immigration but if they are deported as illegals they lose that option. Most of the 2 million or so who have left since Trump came back to office have done it this way.
i acknowledge that not all Mexicans are criminals and cartel members and that there are many decent hardworking Mexicans working illegally in the USA. But they still must leave. Law and order must prevail. It is the lack of law, order and justice that made Mexico a failed state and the same thing would happen to America if action is not taken. Many basically decent Mexican people will experience hardship and no one wants that for them but reality must be faced. A bad situation needs to be corrected and the axe is going to fall regardless. Businesses dependant on cheap labor will have to figure out a different way. Illegals must return to their home countries.
Going forward the USA must make careful informed decisions about who they allow into the country and the interests of its own citizens and sovereignty must be the top priority. We’ve all seen what happens when this is ignored. Fortunately the USA seems to have recognized it and is dealing with it before it’s too late. It’s very likely that other countries will watch and learn. Nothing speaks louder than success.

The immigration system was supposed to use vetting to assure that the newcomers were not public charges, i.e. not welfare users. Hence contracted with a sponsor. Seasonal labor from Mexico worked that way,too. Of course, that might mean the the potential voters were away during the elections.

Mexico has never been our friend or ally. Not in WWI, not with WWII, not in Korea not along the boarder, not with immigration, not with drug control, not on the global stage, not ever. With that as the base line, don’t make any deals with Mexico that gives them any special consideration. Mexico is not our friend.

Current polls indicate that one third of Albertans will vote to separate from Canada in the referendum being held this year. Alberta’s Premier, Danielle Smith, personally does not want to separate from Canada but will respect whatever decision Albertans make in the coming referendum. She is definitely using this as leverage in dealing with Carney and Ottawa. If Alberta secedes from Canada then Canada is finished. There is no Canada without Alberta whose oil and gas have been the driving force in Canada’s economy.
Albertans and in fact I believe the majority of western Canada sees the current system as unfair to western Canada and have been complaining about it for decades. The higher populations of Quebec and Ontario ensure that all the power rests in eastern Canada and the majority of economic decisions benefit eastern Canada and punish Alberta, who pays the most in taxes. Under Canada’s equalization system Canadas three western provinces pay more to Ottawa than other provinces and receive nothing. Quebec benefits the most from equalization payments.
Quebec is a high population province, which ought to be able stand on its own two feet economically but prefers the way of high taxation, corruption and socialism. Quebec threatened to seperate years ago and to keep them from doing so got many perks from Ottawa.
Western Canada is fed up. If Alberta leaves Canada it is almost certain Saskatchewan will follow suit and leave as well. This doesn’t mean Alberta will necessarily wish to join the United States. It seems more likely they will become a sovereign country but they will pursue a close relationship with the US because the people and politics of Alberta are ideologically closer to the US than to Ottawa.
Got to get that one-third up higher. I’m surprised it’s that low.

I think independence would be Alberta’s best option, and perhaps Saskatchewan could unite with them later. One reason for my thought here is that, although those two provinces are conservative by Canadian standards, the political culture shock if they joined the U.S. would be very great. They are just not prepared for the much more grass roots political system in the U.S. It’s imperfect, but it’s a far cry from the Parliamentary System, and intentionally so.
I sure see a lot of hostile and clueless messages from Canadians on X. Quite arrogant really. Their attitude is of course a reflection of what they are being fed by their government and it is quite clear they are swallowing what their own propaganda machine is feeding them, hook, line, and sinker.
