This is one of those conversations that hints around the edges of what the collapse of globalism actually entails. As noted in the beginning of the WEF panel discussion by Christine Legarde, the construct of global economics was built upon a foundation of interdependent trade dependencies. If nations are no longer reliant upon other nations for sourcing of goods and services, the global construct of banking and finance then begins to collapse.
Globalism in its economic construct is a series of dependencies. If those dependencies are severed, if each country has the ability to feed, produce and innovate independently, then the entire dependency model around globalism collapses.
Within the globalism model that was historically created there was a group of people, western nations, banks, finance and various government leaders, who controlled the organization and rules of the trade dependencies. The action being taken for self-sufficiency, in combination with the approach promoted by President Trump that each nation state should generate their own needs, then the rules-based order that has existed for global trade will collapse.
If nations are no longer dependent, they become sovereign – able to exist without the need for support from other nations and systems. If nations are indeed sovereign, then globalism is no longer needed and a threat of the unknown rises. How will nations engage with each other if there is no governing body of western elites to make the rules for engagement? The need for control is a reaction to fear, and it is the fear of self-reliance that permeates the elitist class within the control structures.
Global trade is now beyond goods and services and into the world of automated artificial intelligence. Legarde notes the tech sector wants/needs access to more global data in order to create the control systems of tomorrow. However, again the problem arises when sovereign nations refuse to dump their independent data into the bucket of data dependency.
If each nation of the world is operating according to its individual best interests, the position of Donald Trump, then what happens to the governing elite who set up the system of interdependencies. This is the core of their fear.
If each nation can suddenly grow tea, what happens to the East India Tea Company. Who then sets the price for the tea, and worse still an entire distribution system (ships, ports, exchanges, banks, etc.) becomes functionally obsolescent.
In very real and actionable terms, some nations may sell cars without seatbelts, cultures might be different, even trans rights might not be recognized.

We have an accomplished international businessman playing in the political playpen. Talk about a whole different world of capabilities, goals and priorities. The euroweenies are stunned that all their talk and feels just don’t have the weight they thought they had.
None of these people ever knew the world of the 1910’s, when nations were independent and traded only for mutual benefit. This is partly why the elites engineered a “Great Depression” and all of the onerous social controls that came out of it. They maintained those Depression conditions for almost ten years so that every nation would become subservient – to them.
But we should still remember the days of the “Arsenal of Democracy,” whereby the USA could produce a new heavy bomber every hour, using resources that it had mined. Those days should not now be gone.
The “Globalist” strategy is simply one in which everybody starves, except for the “elites” who become meaninglessly rich. We talk as though this arrangement was “sustainable.” But the simple facts of the matter are that it isn’t. We’re not being forced to change “merely” by Donald Trump. He’s simply the first one (with power) who is actually willing to speak the “inconvenient truth.”
“Truth” doesn’t require affirmation. It is “truth.” And you actually ignore it at your own peril. Which is exactly how and why the entire world is facing today.
A WEF panel consisting of politicians, bankers, investors, AND LAWYERS that have never run anything that produces things. Never have managed large organizations. It is a glimpse of why an organization can push DEI and other such nonsensical things. And we start the conversation and look in the 1920s? Hoover? How they thought in those days? “It is a very different world.” If there is a point to this panel, it is the incompetence of the elites stand out.
Scale operators always win. They buy low and can sell high. They are called oligopolies or monopolies. We need to break the big ones up smaller pieces with competition. Lagarde worried about tariffs and the US consumer and US importer. I bet she is concerned about us.
What puts small and medium sized enterprises at a disadvantage is government forcing small business to close and leave big box stores open.
A good glimpse again why globalization will lead to ruin. Big inherently becomes bad. I go back to Boeing. The management became absolutely ruinous. We had Boeing planes dropping thousands of feet due to air pockets that magically stopped happening? A competitive group of companies making planes leads to innovation and lower prices. I go back to the US federal government which has allowed an encouraged fraud everywhere. Smaller is better. Main Street could be renamed Main Streets.
This was a scripted performance and it is a sad view of the “elites”.
The world runs on each person perusing their separate interests. The great contributions to society didn’t come from government bureaus. Einstein didn’t develop his theories that way. Henry Ford didn’t revolutionize the automobile industry that way. The record of history is absolutely crystal clear. The only way to lift people out of grinding property is free market capitalism and not warm collectivism.
Lots of bloviating & pontificating from the panel & that cnbc narcissist. So you go to the gym, buy a shirt that fits & wear a jacket for goodness sakes. Ken Griffey made the most sense. The elephant in the room is government’s inability to control spending and a certain monetary crises. I believe he’s wrong regarding American consumers bearing the brunt of tariffs. I offered a shorter version of these thoughts late last night under another topic: what we are dealing with is Communism using Capitalism as a mask.
Communist malefactors everywhere are the problem!
In 1989 I had hoped that Communism was finally dead, even if it persisted in China, Cuba, and North Korea, and maybe a few other spots. But the hope was that they would soon be following the example of Russia and the Iron Curtain countries.
Soon, however, during the Billy Jeff Clinton/Newt Gingrich years, propping up the Communist Chinese by “Free Trade” was the technique, which – the leaders said – would transform the Communist Chinese into honest, freedom-loving capitalists.
As we know, that did not happen: following Lenin’s rule that Capitalists will sell Communists the rope, by which the Capitalists will be hung, the Chinese Communists (and others of their ilk) used Capitalism against capitalist countries to destroy them.
Free Trade was the new wave, except it was in fact an old wave, and one proven to ruin the domestic economies of those who championed it. The main economic cadaver on the Table of History to prove this was England, which had free-traded itself into Socialist mediocrity by the 1920’s.
While keeping Communism’s slavery alive in China, using Capitalism as a mask for the elite, i.e. Communist Party bigwigs, became their modus operandi, and a very successful technique for them, and a disaster for us.
Open, mass migration to “homogenize” the populations of countries into a global, non-nationalist proletariat became a renewed battle-cry. Recall that Communists from the beginning wanted nothing to do with Nationalism: “Workers of the World, UNITE!”
Worse, Communism began to be re-invented or re-marketed as Globalism/Environmentalism here and everywhere else, fooling the naive into accepting the dictatorial policies of Stalin and Mao-Tse-Tung “to save the planet.”
And now…here we are!

Addendum: on a tangential topic, I have an acquaintance, a retired teacher, who voted for President TRUMP, who is breaking with him about I.C.E. entering schools and looking for the children of illegal immigrants.
She thinks having agents pulling children out of schools will traumatize them.
Except….this is not happening!!!

You bag your own groceries or you have to punch 20 buttons to log a complaint. How about using AI to allow the customer to tell you who they need to speak to? Instead of wasting 20 minutes of every customers day? They do not care. And they are TOO BIG. Anything that is TOO BIG TO FAIL or TOO BIG TO CARE need to be broken up.
The British historian twat is extremely annoying, and it’s pretty clear he’s an institutionalist, socialist, and Trump hater. LeGarde is smarter than I thought, unlike Van de Leyen (the latter not present). Griffin was probably the best one on the panel. The point about “control” is spot on, Sundance.
The “rules-based order” should have never existed. This was a system put into place by communists for communists. It is a system designed to enable a one-world government controlled by multi-billionaires – the absolute antithesis of the American Constitution.
And these people are not going away. They know how much they are despised, so for the time being they are toning down their “great reset” rhetoric; but they will come back with a fury when President Trump is gone.
These people are the enemies of human life and liberty, and no deals can be made with them. They will exterminate us if we do not exterminate them first.

It is utterly amazing to witness the proverbial chickens coming home to roost in Canada and Western Europe. The Global warming/European Union narcissism is costing them extremely dearly as they fall further and further behind in innovation and competitiveness bogged down by their snow shoes in a track meet.
Meanwhile, thanks to Trump, Lutnick, Bessent and company, we are increasingly positioned to create bilateral advantages and are increasingly agile as American business can innovate and react, with less regulation and transaction interference to overcome.
One caveat: the massive election cheating has not been dealt with by Bondo, Pratel, or Dhillon, and and the State legislatures are mostly not dealing with the fraud, so the Dems can cheat us out of our future.
Bondo and Pratel are about as gigantically ineffective at taking down the international electoral fraud machine as is imaginable.
I’m hopeful that part of the Venezuala operation was about securing the electronic manipulation.
Worse for the Dems; since they always project; even the suggestion that President Trump might now have control of the cheatware they rely on would probably send them into fits.
