President Trump gave an extensive interview to Maria Bartiromo just before he left Davos. The primary questions surrounded the announced deal between the Trump administration and NATO over the U.S. security request for Greenland.
President Trump said the NATO/Denmark security deal for Greenland gives the United States unlimited and exclusive use the country to build bases and systems for the North American defense dome. President Trump also talked about the U.S. trade relationship with Europe and the friction points that still have to be addressed. WATCH:

Whenever I think of Maria, I remember her in those long white gloves and red dress seated at one of the spots at the Al Smith Dinner, looking at her cell phone from time to time. I remember the Cardinal seated next to Hillary and his face turning as beet red as HIS dress (or whatever you call that) when he was embarrassed on her behalf . . . Hillary not so much (red).
It’s called a cassock. It’s a very traditional garment with a long-standing history of identifying a priest’s vocation. Definitely not a dress. And his was black that night.
Thank you! I stand corrected – looking at the youtube video – maybe it was his red hat I was remembering!
Further, I apologize – I looked it up and that which I called a hat is referred to as a zucchetto and the shade of the zucchetto for a cardinal is properly referred to as scarlet! I was being flippant and that was not nice.
Very gracious; thank you suejeanne😊
It sounds like this new Greenland deal will be a major upgrade from the existing US agreement regarding Greenland

That prior agreement (signed 2004) was the update to the original Cold war one. It imposed many limitations:
Most Presidents create ripples in history……
Seldom one comes along that creates tsunamis….
All the USA ever needed from Greenland and Denmark was the OK to have a bunch of military basses in Greenland and we already had that.
This is like traveling thousands of miles to end up at most 10 feet from where you started.
Like hailing a cab, and when the cabby says, “Where to sir?”, one gives the name of the airport one is already at.

Not at all, Tom. Notice the European chattering classes (sp, asses); notice Zman’s chiding of same; now, notice the real powers off in the corner, contemplating how short a distance certain weapons would be [i.e., those in the Minot area now as far north as Alert AB (Canada permitting), or Thule]. I can imagine excellent under ice sub support as well as a base or two, for ice breakers as well. Combined with a satellite constellation, I can see enhanced Northern Hemispheric security, under a Golden dome stretching across Alaska to Greenland.
The only drawback, as far as I can see, is that Denmark will no longer be able to forcibly sterilize the women of the native population./s
He’s another new username spouting the same uninformed crap that’s eaten up on X and other social media.
If there was nothing to downplay he wouldn’t be here trying to downplay it.
I’m sick of the insufferables….their schtick has gotten old.
Remarkably gracious response, not to mention informative.
Another new name and more of the same idiocy from them; go back to X, they eat up uninformed BS there.
Linking below to several background pieces on Greenland which I found quite helpful. One on how the native population fares in Alaska vs. Greenland. The next a copy of Denmark’s national security assessment from December 2025. The latter shows how provocative both Russia and China are in the space.

And finally, an excerpt from the excellent substack Coffee and Covid (Jeff Childers) detailing significant recent Denmark purchases of arms from the USA. Amazingly (as Childers notes) none of our “hardworking media” included these details in their stories about Trump’s push re. Greenland.
For example, easily located defense contracts, published right on official US government websites, reveal the United States approved at least six major arms deals with Denmark over a six-week period starting in mid November, 2025. They include $318 million for AIM-9X missiles (Nov. 14), $730 million for AIM-120C-8 missiles (Dec. 11), $951 million for AMRAAM-ER missiles (Dec. 23), $1.8 billion for P-8A aircraft (Dec. 29), $45 million for Hellfire missiles (Jan. 8, 2026)….
For comparison, the six weeks saw about ten times the volume of defense sales to Denmark during the entire previous twelve-month period…
In other words, while Trump was threatening to invade Greenland “the hard way,” the Danes were paying him billions of dollars. You think those remarkable, multi-billion dollar sales numbers might have been significant to the public’s understanding of the developing “Greenland crisis?”

I’m vaguely recalling a story from a year or two ago, that the Swedish parliament was discussing a bill that would not only give the US access to their air bases for two years, but hand over those air bases to the US at the end of two years.
Can anyone recall what became of that?
After hearing Dr. Pippa Malmgren’s explanation of the importance of Greenland’s location to our space-energy-internet-AI programs, it suddenly makes sense apart from potential involvement in the Ukraine-Russia war.
The only point I have issues with that President Trump stated is about interest rates.
Mrs Bugs and I have credit ratings within 5-8 points of the max FICO scores.
We continually get “Offers” for credit cards, etc. that are in the high 20’s even 30% rates.
Of course they all get filed in the round file, but if we are getting offers that high I can’t imagine what is happening to many people that actually use their credit cards for basic things.
So the US gets de facto control of Greenland, while Denmark keeps the de jure control over it.
All that’s needed now is a classic “usurpation”.
Greenlanders will get used to a more entrenched US military with frequent visits. CIA gets a foothold and the players in Greenland get bought.
Greenland votes for independence considering the US is already prividing most everything.
Greenland becomes part of the US as a few kore billions for infrastructure are used to sway them. Nothing will change in the ground, just on paper.
De Jure is “usurped”.
