Buried on page 217 of the Senate Continuing Resolution Bill [TEXT HERE], Republican Senators have inserted legislation to “retroactively” pay themselves $500,000 each for every line of communication, telephone record, email or other electronic communication, subpoenaed by the Jack Smith Special Counsel during the Arctic Frost investigation.
The payment is a penalty for retroactive subpoenas going back to January 1, 2022. The payment is at least $500,000 per phone line or email account. That means each Republican Senator is going to make millions from the subpoenas that Jack Smith previously used.
House Representative Austin Scott is not happy the Republican Senators slipped this into the bill. WATCH:

Given that the Senators who stand to financially benefit from these reparations are likely already quite wealthy, was this one more effort to demoralize the base? Sure seems like a jumping-the-shark sort of action.

This is just the latest and greatest money laundering scheme by Congress. Congress mandates confiscation of funds from We The People, then directs the appropriation of funds, and then requires those confiscated funds be paid back to Congress as “penalties”.
All while failing in Congressional over sight duties and allowing the activity that is being “penalized” to take place.

The House members so upset about this should’ve held up the bill until this provision was stripped. They would’ve been heros but like all good republican squishes they only complained about it but in the end did NOTHING.
Also, a correction. Change “Republican Senators have inserted legislation to “retroactively” pay themselves $500,000” to “Republican Senators have inserted legislation to “retroactively” be paid $500,000 by U.S. taxpayers” As usual we suckers who work hard, follow the rules, and pay our taxes, will be paying the bill.
The CR Bill has been posted for reading for over a month. Congressmen are supposed to read and analyze Bills so they can vote on them. It’s what they are paid to do.

Because the “Congressional aide” whose job it is to read the actual bill and give the Congress member a greatly shortened version of it due to the Congressperson not having the mental acuity to read it themselves.

There’s no way they’re getting away with this. Maybe if it was 500k one time or 50k per infraction. But this is just over the top lottery winnings they’re trying to pilfer.
Having read it, it allows them to file a lawsuit against Jack Smith et al, for a minimum of $500k for each violation plus legal costs and fees, waives defenses of absolute, qualified, and sovereign immunity and sets the statute of limitations as 5 years from the date they found out about it. This allows them to file a lawsuit, and the government can third party in or subrogate other parties who are majority at fault.
This opens a door for civil litigation lawsuits against those who spied on the Senator’s communications. This sets a minimum of $500k civil damages if they meet the burden of proof that they were spied on improperly, from the spying entity. Judge Eileen Cannon found that Jack Smith was not properly appointed.
This is not lottery winnings: they have to sue Jack Smith and prove what he did, and who else may have worked with him, as a starting point.

The question of taking these funds needs to be asked of every one of those senators..on camera for all to see. Just one senator declining the funds would show who they really are.
