I think many of us really like Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. He’s not generally a man who pretends things amid the EU coalition. Orban says things clearly, just like Trump.
When Orban notes he will not sign a joint EU statement on the Trump/Putin summit because it “sets conditions for a meeting to which leaders of the EU were not invited,” he certainly hits the proverbial nail.
The hubris amid the EU collective is quite remarkable.

Orban is right, of course, but Orban is a strong leader, and Germany and UK and France are little quislings who only follow Satan. The quislings do not love their countries whatsoever…in fact, I would say they’re devoid of any feelings except that of greed and unthinkables. We are watching them, like the Uniparty in the US, spiral out of control, with no sure footing on anything foundational.

My FIL, who served in the Norwegian Merchant Marines during WWII, lived until he was 94 years old – and to his dying day, every time he even heard the name “Quisling” he would spit on the ground! Here in New England, the laws governing (self-chosen) dry towns, as well as Sunday closings of liquor stores in general, were always called “blue laws.”
It seemed ironic since it’s the blue left who has been getting rid of those laws at lightning speed every where they can manage it.
However, it just occurred to me that “blue laws” originated long before the Pravda Media decided they didn’t want to be red anymore on election maps, and flipped it overnight.

I remember back in the day if you were planning a sightseeing trip on Sunday you had to fill up your vehicle with gas on Saturday.
Wasn’t anything open on Sunday except Church.
What truly amazes me is that Sunday is one of the busiest days of the week in the grocery stores/ restaurants . And the busiest time on Sunday in the grocery store / restaurant is right after Church lets out.
Nix! No one is ‘forced’ to frequent shops, etc. on Sunday. You want rules for those who do not think as you do? Seems to me you are deciding what is “essential” or not, for others.
Well, with the advent of 6 day working weeks for people like myself, in my case, most of my life, sunup to sundown, who pave your roads and build your highways etc?
Sunday is the only day we crews, can go shopping and get things accomplished, including banking. During the week, most things you need, well, the stores are closed before we get off the jobsite, and sometimes, driving from the jobsite in the middle of nowhere to the nearest hotels and restaurants, can be hours of driving. We are on the job at 530-600 am, get off a half hour before sunset, and that all depends on the time of year, and where we are. Most times, we dont get to where we are staying until after 10-11 pm. You walk through the door, shower, eat, and off to sleep 5 hours, if you are lucky.
Not everyone has the luxury you seem to have. If not for us, you arent drving anywhere. On a paved highway, freeway, or interstate, or a local road. Think about people like me who do those jobs…..we have no time for a life in construction season, and depending on where Im working, it can be year round too.
Im retired from all that, because of health reasons, but I lived that life for 43 years. Back then, we only worked 5 days, Saturday was the day to do things, and everything was closed on Sunday. That was supposed to be family time, and God’s day.
The times have changed, and with it, the world of commerce changed. For better or for worse.
I would think you have better things to complain about, than about this little deal.

Victor Orban reminds me of an earlier Hungarian, who stood up for Freedom and for Christianity.
The younger people here may not know about one of the greatest Hungarians of the last century: Cardinal Jozsef Mindszenty.
He was one of the first notable victims of the Communists after World War II.
Because of his outspoken opposition to Communism and its official atheism, Mindszenty was arrested, tortured horribly, and put on “trial” in the late 1940’s to be an example of what happens to “enemies of the people.”
Imprisoned thereafter, he was able to escape to the U.S. embassy in Budapest during the chaos of the failed 1956 Hungarian Revolt against the Russians and local Hungarian Communists.
Pope Pius XII excommunicated every person involved in prosecuting him, and supported his opposition.
Later, however, his anti-Communist statements from the embassy started to annoy Nixon and Pope Paul VI, who wanted to “improve relations” with the Communists. Pope Paul VI eventually made a deal to remove him to the Vatican in the early 1970’s.
You see, like a certain other pope, Paul VI was too willing to compromise with Evil for so-called accommodations with the Communists
Cardinal Mindszenty, an uncompromising and most admirable man, was one of the beacons of my childhood and adolescence!

Ausonius, I posted this last year, June 2024. Sorry for the length. Looking back, I see the hand of (hopefully now defunct) USAID.
I just spent 4 days in Budapest, June 8 -12. I was there during the election which took place on a Sunday. My wife and I enjoyed a 7 day river cruise down the Danube which ended in Budapest. We extended our stay for 3 additional nights in Budapest. I talked politics to as many Hungarians as possible. Some were reluctant, perhaps I misread that due to the language barrier. I only speak English. A joke I heard attributed to Pope Benedict was “Hungarian is not spoken in Heaven because the Hungarian language takes eternity to learn.”
I spoke to our local Hungarian tour guide after a lengthy tour of the city and walking tour of the exterior of the Jewish Synagogue in Budapest (2nd largest synagogue in the world btw). The guide was very emotional and did a decent job. Her English was good but not perfect. She was heading to a political rally for Orban’s opposition party immediately after our discussion. This was on a Saturday the day before the election. Unfortunately, I was joined by a liberal American schoolmarm type woman in her late 60s. The American lib (fellow passenger on the river cruise boat) had cornered the guide first. The American lib was anti Orban and the tour guide was in agreement. I asked the tour guide why she didn’t like Orban and her only answer was “corruption/nepotism.” The guide said they were instructed or warned not to discuss politics. She said that if she violated this rule then she’d be the recipient of the “Black Card.” Our conversation ended immediately after so I didn’t get the chance to ask in detail what she meant by the black card. I assume it means she gets some type of warning. I felt the guide was simply following the lead of the American Lib, telling the Lib what she wanted to hear. The American lib continued to attack Orban. I said the USA Govt was meddling in internal Hungarian politics. The Lib got very angry and called that fact “misinformation.” That’s when the encounter ended and the tour guide presumably went off to her anti Orban rally (no doubt financed in part by our State Dept/CIA).
On my last day in Budapest, I visited the Terror Haus (House of Terror Museum). I spent 3.5 hours there. The museum details the 46 years of Communist Russia occupation of Hungary as well as the last year of WW2 under the control and occupation of Nazi Germany. In the gift shop I bought an excellent book (available in English thankfully): The Woke vs the West by John O’Sullivan. I strongly recommend this book. I also noticed a book for sale in Hungarian (not available in English at the gift shop) entitled Orban vs Soros (Orban Kontra Soros). I suspect Orban has a lot to do with the Terror Museum and keeping alive the memory of 46 years of Communist lies, terror, destruction and mismanagement of Hungary.
BTW, we loved Budapest. Beautiful, old, well-preserved architecture everywhere. Good food, outdoor dining & drinking plentiful. Friendly people and Zero Crime. The City seemed prosperous and very vibrant.
I have more to share but I’ll end now with an interesting historical figure from the 1960s: Cardinal Jozsef Mindszenty, RC primate of Hungary. He was forced to take shelter in the American Embassy in Budapest for 15 years due to Communist rule and false charges of treason by a Communist “Peoples’ Court” which would result in severe Communist punishment/incarceration and possible execution. Prior to his time of refuge in the American Embassy he was tortured and “confessed” to anti Soviet crimes, etc. He was released from the American Embassy in 1971 and sent to exile in Austria by the Vatican IMHO, he was discarded in a very cynical way but I am not an expert on his life. From all accounts he was anti-communist and very brave. His life reminds me of what America and the Catholic Pope once stood for and today how far our Govt and Church Leaders have traveled down the wrong path.

Magyar and Finnish are the two oddball European languages. I would love to eat true paprikás csirke, gulyás, lángos, rétes and kolbász in the old country (my paternal grandmother was a full – blooded Hunky, maiden name Hercég [Germanicized: Herzog]). “Excommunication” is a specific penalty for Catholics: it does not prevent God from doing anything.
For example: people excommunicate or divorce themselves from the Church by performing or obtaining abortions.
Nothing official is needed from a bishop.
If they should die without official forgiveness through the Sacrament of Penance/Reconciliation, it is still God’s decision as to their status in the after-life .
The Church does not decide who enters or does not enter whatever realm awaits us in the beyond. It simply says that the path offered by its Sacraments and Masses and other rituals make the journey easier and more pleasant.
I think we would argue that if someone does not take the sacrament “rightly, worthily, and with faith”, then they are not “partaking in the body and blood of Christ” and so “excommunication” has no use. But it seems that if the elements are transformed into the “body, blood, soul, and divinity” of Christ, then if someone receives that “unworthily”that’s a problem for Catholics so they need excommunication or anathema to prevent it.
The difference between strong honest leadership and corrupt vassals is amazing.
IMO, It would be quite appropriate if when EU calls into the White House it receive the following auto message: “The number you dialed is no longer in service. If you think you reached this recording in error, please hang up and try again.”

Why, one has to ask, is the EU collective actually so fearful, panicked as evidenced by their hurried meeting, even openly hysterical? Isn’t peace the prize? Shouldn’t it be?

Many of us here have comented that in another time Presidents Trump and Putin might have been natural allies for a common cause. So what would that look like.
Here is yesterday’s Monday Brief from Promethean Action which suggests there might be subtext to the upcoming meeting in Alaska on Friday. Ending the war as the primary purpose but leading to deeper discussions concerning another undisclosed agenda.

Seems like Trump will try now to make a reasonable deal with Putin on Ukraine, and then Ukraine and Europe can decide if they like it or not and if they don’t—Europe can fund AND maybe fight the war to their satisfaction—but they don’t have the spine without Uncle Sam.
And, while in Alaska, maybe, just maybe Trump can get him ton agree on some other things (like development of the Arctic), and Trump can play on the natural fear Russia always has of China–who thinks Siberia should be theirs–with its Asian population, vast oil and, as Hitler called it Le·bens·raum–living space.
Alaska meeting might be a complete flop; might be historic. Only thing certain is Woke Bolsheviks in America will condemn the any outcome and CIA will subvert ant success.

I fancy myself a WW2 historian. Later this year, I’ll complete my private Study/Room dominated by a WW2 Library. I just finished reading The Boys in the Light by Nina Willner. The author tells the true story of her father who survived Nazi imprisonment and torture for 5 years and was rescued and adopted by an American Tank Company in Germany at the end of WW2. The main hero of the story is a Norwegian American farm boy from Minnesota named Elmer Hovland. Elmer rises to a leadership position in his Tank Company (approx. 100 soldiers in Company D). The author portrays Elmer as a humble man who leads by example and has total trust and faith in God. Elmer is revered by his comrades in arms and rises from Private to Lieutenant, in charge of the Company.
My main takeaway is Elmer’s singular reliance on God to do what needs to be done and survive the War is exactly what our culture and country needs today. Another theme the author addresses is the uniquely American blending of diverse and varying individuals of different backgrounds, ethnicity and religion into a cohesive unit – much like America itself used to be when all varying immigrant ethnic groups strove to become “American.” Her account of Elmer’s appointment to Company D Leader reminded me of a quote attributed to a British officer during the Revolutionary War who marveled, “The Americans are a curious people; they know how to govern themselves but nobody else can govern them.”
I highly recommend The Boys in the Light and also Two Roads home by Daniel Finkelstein. I’m noticing a trend where WW2 non-fiction authors now attempt to tell two or more separate stories that eventually merge into one.
Got a tip that the Trump/Putin meeting could possibly be held at the Alyeska Resort in Girdwood. Interesting that Aug. 12-16 is totally blacked out on their booking calendar…

Looks like the Trump/Putin meeting will just be a one day event. And it looks like Trump will be landing in Anchorage on Friday.
It’s amazing to me how we ended up with these so-called elites that run the world. Most of them are uninspiring, unpatriotic and just seem indifferent to the people they represent. There will always be elites that run the world. We just need a better class of them. Trump is our model now. We will never go back.
There will always be a small but significant number of people who want to lord over everyone else.
The problem with Europe, in my very humble opinion, is they still see the US as a colony. The distinct aura of Monachy in a different form in Europe still prevails and the most powerful monarch is still in power in the UK.

EU (mostly leftist) leaders cannot accept they are becoming increasingly irrelevant. They have neglected their militaries for decades reducing their strength. Their extreme and in many cases insane climate policies have depressed their economies. With declining military and economic strength they have become less and less relevant. Sorry but true.
Organization is head of a country that was once part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. And so he understands instinctively that the WW2 scenario where “failing to stand up to Hitler” led to hostilities doesn’t apply here. For one thing you need to make Putin the stand in for Hitler .. and he’s not even remotely like Hitler.
It’s the WW1 scenario that applies here, where the system of alliances themselves which led to war. It wasn’t failing to stand up to the Kaiser that did it. It was the overwhelming potential power of the Triple Entente which caused Germany to create the Schliefen Plan. Which meant that any threat at all (ie, Russian mobilization) would force Germany to start an all out war. So, it wasn’t failing to stand up to Kaiser that did; it was scaring the crap out of the Kaiser
