Senators Richard Blumenthal (U-DC) and Lindsey Graham (U-DC) have scheduled a delegation of Ukraine officials to come to the Senate tomorrow and help organize the pro-Ukraine narrative. The Senate is debating the anti-Russia sanctions package and key players are coordinating retention of the Ukraine payment system.
According to Politico all 100 senators have been invited to the lobbying/narrative engineering meeting, and almost all of them are likely to attend. From obvious indications, including Blumenthal and Graham supporting the recent Ukraine attacks against strategic Russian airbases, it would appear the Senate is prepared to dispatch President Trump’s efforts to organize a ceasefire.
As with all things Washington DC, to find the motive follow the money.
WASHINGTON DC – A Ukrainian delegation is set to brief U.S. senators Wednesday as lawmakers weigh a sweeping sanctions bill targeting Russia and its biggest energy customers, China and India.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said in an interview that he organized the meeting with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), and noted all 100 senators were invited to attend the closed-door session.
“It’s a pivotal moment in Ukraine — and crunch time for the Senate on this bill,” said Blumenthal, noting that the legislation now has 82 co-sponsors, evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans.
The visiting delegation, he said, includes Andriy Yermak, a top adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Ukraine’s deputy defense minister, Serhii Boyev, is traveling with Yermack.
The sanctions package from Blumenthal and Graham is designed to increase pressure on Russia’s wartime economy by targeting countries that buy oil and gas — a move Blumenthal said could be a “game changer.”
He also pointed to recent long-range drone attacks deep inside Russia — dubbed “Operation Spiderweb” — as evidence of Ukraine’s agility and resolve. Those strikes, he said, counter “a false narrative that Ukraine is losing the war” and could shift momentum in Washington in favor of increasing aid for Ukraine. (read more)

He has too many challengers. The SC GOPe runs a splitter strategy for the conservative vote. Then uses an open primary so center-left Democrats can cross over and vote for Graham.

Again, great strength in patience to let this part of the game play out, let all the players show themselves while in the meantime of holding his peace President Trump can stay focused on getting the Senate to pass, with as little amendments as possible, that one big beautiful bill.

Be aware: The bill does NOT cancel tax on social security benefits. Because the tax on SS benefits was passed by law, not by the budget process nor is it controlled by IRS regulations. That change has to come from action by Congress separate from the current bill. The only thing the bill could muster to give relief from taxes on SS was a measly extra $4,000 deduction for seniors – not a tax credit, a deduction. So at a 12% tax rate, the $4k reduces a senior’s taxes by $480. At the 22% rate, it is only a deduction of $880. In the meantime, joint filers with any other income of $32,000 have 50% of their benefits taxed and joint filers with other income of over $44,000 have 85% of their benefits taxed. The “other income” includes W-2 wages (for example, in the case of one spouse still working or earning) AND withdrawals from savings, retirement plans, etc. For someone who worked long and hard over their lifetime and built up both their benefit level and their retirement savings, taxing SS benefits can throw you into a higher tax bracket. Uncle Sam wants to make sure you pay dearly for your 40 to 50 years of hard work.

The “cost” of the bill is literally from the tax cuts, which is a cut to revenue. It’s also based on the CBO’s own nonsense predictions, not even guarantee, that doesn’t account for the growing GDP that will outpace debt. Trump’s plan is to outgrow the debt. For example, Senator Ron Johnson continues to prattle on about returning to ‘pre-pandemic levels of spending’. He thinks the government should be spending less than $5 trillion/year. I just don’t see that happening especially when Congress can’t/won’t codify DOGE cuts so far.
One other point is ‘where to cut’. If the government takes in $5 trillion/year and 70% of that goes towards ‘Mandatory’ spending (i.e., $3.5 trillion). That leaves $1.5 trillion of ‘Discretionary’ spending. What will actually get cut? Again, Congress hasn’t shown any willingness at this point to cut Anything!
So, I’m in the camp of unleashing energy, decreasing regulations, re-setting trade deals including increasing tariffs, incentivizing small and medium-sized businesses to expand, and doing whatever can be done to grow the economy.

It is not a budget bill. BBB has nothing to do with the budget.
BBB is a Reconciliation Bill which is a type of bill which only allows cuts to mandatory spending like Medicaid. Most proposed DOGE cuts are for discretionary spending which can be handled in rescission bills or appropriation bills.
BBB will keep the 2017 tax cuts from sunsetting. It will stop 1.6 million illegals from using Medicaid. It will properly fund the completion of The Wall.
The advantage of a reconciliation bill is that it only requires 50 votes, so no Democrats needed. So it is worth doing for those things that qualify to be part of reconciliation.
