President Trump is scheduled to announce the first negotiated trade deal in the global trade reset with the United States. The deal is between the U.K and the USA, which is interesting as a UK free trade agreement was being worked on at the time COVID-19 hit in 2020.
Back in 2019 President Trump and then Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross were working two strategic trade negotiations at the same time that never materialized. The first was an FTA with the U.K and the second was with the EU. The nuance of the U.K deal was favorable and structurally aligned to create leverage against the EU negotiations. It will be interesting to see how this one is structured.
From President Trump this morning on Truth Social: “The agreement with the United Kingdom is a full and comprehensive one that will cement the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom for many years to come. Because of our long time history and allegiance together, it is a great honor to have the United Kingdom as our FIRST announcement. Many other deals, which are in serious stages of negotiation, to follow!”

I don’t know what will happen with Canada. The trade deficit is all energy. Without energy the trade deficit is on Canada’s side. The US buys a lot of crude from Canada at a decent price and then processes it and makes a lot of money from that crude. And since Canada depends mostly on energy for their economy they won’t be buying nothing from nobody if the economy crashes. I am not particularly happy about this. But if gets rid of the liberal leftist eggheads running this country then that is the silver lining.
Are there no other industries/manufacturing the Canadian people can come up with in-house that’s all their own so they aren’t dependent on other countries? Rare earth minerals in the Canada basin? They have to come up with something to diversify. I wish the Canadian people all the best. We just can’t be subsidizing foreign countries at our own expense.
The relationship between the US and Canada regarding energy is not one where Canada is ‘taking advantage’ of the United States. Both countries have benefitted enormously from this trade. The energy trade between Canada and the US is complicated. There are good articles on the internet that explain it. The US benefits from this trade as much or more than Canada does. I agree that Canada should be pulling their weight militarily and there are other areas of trade that need to be changed. But Canada is not China. We are not a potential enemy of the US. The worst thing Canada did to the US was to not fulfill their obligation to maintain an adequate military and the Canadian government has already agreed to change that.

Tariffs are taxes domestic consumers pay for purchasing imported goods. The idea that they’re taxes paid by foreigners is utterly false.
But when Americans switch to buying American products because the imports are more expensive, foreigners lose everything. Our dollars stay on US soil, benefiting Americans.

The UK was so worried about us Americans paying for tariffs that they struck a Trade Deal with the USA.
There are a few responses to tariffs:
The tariffs are passed on to the consumers which makes their product more expensive.
OR, The manufacturer of the product eats some/all of the tariffs by reducing their profit.
OR, The government where the product is shipped from/manufactured from subsidizes the tariffs for the businesses trying to sell their product in the USA.
OR, both the manufacturer and government partner to absorb the cost of the tariff.
OR, they move manufacturing of the product to an even cheaper place to produce.
OR, they move manufacturing to the USA, hire Americans, don’t pay the tariff AND enjoy the 15% corporate tax rate.

Depends entirely who pays it. IF – the producer OR exporter pays it , in order to maintain the price and thus not lose market share to higher priced competitors, then NO – the customer is NOT paying it.
OTH, IF – the tariff is passed forward to the customer as a higher price, then yes, the customer (or maybe Only the importer) pays. OR, there can be a combination of spreading the tariff across any or all of the players, which may or may not impact the consumer.

years back. Towns that I had grandparents, great aunts and uncles from. The towns had
lost the factories, the mines. And it was replaced with drug dependency , coming across
the Ohio River from West Virginia, which was having similar problems.
Leaning on China, leaning on Mexico, stopping the border crossings, upping the drug
confiscations, arresting mid level drug spreaders through ICE, leaning on Canada….
The level of drugs flowing into little towns in the midwest is going to start drying up.
Keep watching all the reports related to border shut downs, gang arrests, tarriffs with
China, Mexico, Canada tied to fentanyl spreading. Eventually, the safety in these towns
is going to go up remarkably. Kinda like the former crack epidemic areas near cities
have gentrified in some locations. Only these areas wont gentrify. They will eventually
middle class.
The zoning in a lot of these areas that have been starving for jobs will allow the new
plant to be built nearby. Or ideally, even inside the city limits where the plant or mill used
to stand.

They have their own agriculture and meat all over Europe. They don’t want our pesticide laden products anyway. Besides, isn’t the point of having our own country and self-sufficiency, feeding ourselves using our own farmland. I’m all for helping our farmers and ranchers get back into a strong position here at home but Big Ag needs to get the boot and return our land to the small farmers. It’s our country, not the big corporations to make a fortune selling soy beans to foreign countries.

If we’re talking our American farmland, we aren’t buying it back, we’re taking it. No foreign country should own or be farming on one inch of U.S. soil. I consider that treason. This is our country only. Nor can one man like Gates be allowed to own any of it. It is a national security issue. Only actual American farmers can own and farm the land necessary to feed our entire country.
I’m afraid the Kashmir thingie is a repeat of Obama’s Arab Spring by our deep state; just as the Arab Spring caused a rush of “asylum seekers” to European shores, so will Kashmir bring a rash of Pakis to England and Prikitis to the USA.

I am glad I watched this. President Trump and the UK Ambassador’s exchanges were absolutely hilarious at times. I love that we have a President with such an awesome sense of humor.
Let me just say this, this is an extremely good deal. The Brits are masters of the understatement, so when you see this level of enthusiasm from them and also from us, you know it. Years in the making without success by others until President Trump and his excellent team takes the bull by the horns and gets it done.

The US runs trade deficits primarily for two inter-related reasons. One is that the US dollar is the world’s reserve currency and the other is that the Federal government consistently runs big budget deficits. As long as both of these remain the case, there is very little that can be done about the trade deficit, even with tariffs in place.

My thoughts have been throughout this process that President Trump will make deals to balance trade with these out of balance countries by selling them LNG.
If American companies make production deals with Russia, President Trump may let them sell that LNG to unbalanced countries and credit it against their trade deficit.
This definitely puts a wrench in Canada and Australia/New Zealand’s hope for some sort of Commonwealth allegiance, led by Britain, to fight U.S. tariffs. King Charles will be in a bit of a pickle.
And the details coming out of this trade deal will not help Starmer out with the elections.
Oh well. It’s Make America Great Again, not help the whole world out off the blood, sweat, tears, and money of Americans.
