Although I admit I enjoyed Pat Hervey (Tears of Misery) in her day, and enjoyed watching Ice Road Trucker star Alex Debegorski, the Polish Ice Road Trucker who lived in Yellowknife. His Dad fought in the Free Polish force in WWII, and the Dad and Mom (also a refugee Pole) came to Canada. Alex was a true knight of the road, stopping to help others even as he was trying to move load after load of cargo across Manitoba, Ontario, the Northwest Territory, and Nunavit before the ice thawed. Alex was also a good visitor when he worked the pipeline road from Fairbanks to the Arctic Ocean and brought needed fuel and food to the Native villages in far northern Alaska. Alex, a Catholic, had a sense of humor, admitted to his faults, and shared his belief in God in a kindly conversational way with the viewers of the show.

I was in an customer service industry and saw many wealthy men with their posse of “friends” hanging with him. Not one of them could even open their wallets to tip the cocktail waitress a few bucks after she brought 20 drinks to their group. Most of them were arrogant because they were with the rich guy. They have only been our friends as long as we have been willing to subsidize them financially. I think that Canada reacted “emotionally and personally” to the hostile and aggressive public tone that PDJT used and this elicited a nationalistic response in the population. This might not have been an optimum tactic. Others may react similarly.
