Serving with women in combat:
I was aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) when they brought female fighter pilots along with female enlisted.
The way a ship is organized in terms of combat readiness was ABSOLUTELY compromised when “accommodations” were made to support our guests. I don’t know much about what changes have occurred since but I can say this with experience from both examples.
In addition to our experience with having female fighters aboard, we have also hosted foreign military (Islamic) aboard. The “accommodations” made were both about the same and just as disruptive and both compromised battle readiness.
All of these accommodations were focused on “modesty” over operational necessity. Just to be clear.
Senator Jeanne Sheehan (D-New Hampshire). Challenging Pete on his stance on women not being in combat. Then, flips over to conflating “woman in the military” with “women in combat”.
I don’t want any women in COMBAT. Women are not as strong as men. Cannot do what men can do in the physical arena. Women in the MILITARY are critical and brilliant!
My opinion and a question: How can a woman lead combat soldiers if they cannot be in combat? I don’t think there can be the depth of understanding that is required. In the same way, I honor the traditional roles of men and women, and that colors my positions. I do not believe women belong in ground infantry combat roles. My reasoning is, that most men are taught to protect women. If they have to worry about protecting a woman in the group, their focus is taken off the enemy.
As Senator Cotton (R-Arkansas) brings up the physcial limitations of women in combat. Just by virtue of the weight of the equipment. The point being that a 120lb woman cannot drag a 250lb man when needed, not to mention the equipment.
Hegseth: The standards need to be HIGH and consistent across the military. No exceptions being made for gender. The standards are “gender neutral”.
Women have no business in the military beyond actual needs. Meaning: If we need doctors/nurses, clerks, computer operators, air traffic controllers or some such.
They are useless in combat and can’t do many basic jobs required on naval ships, etc. If we had gender neutral standards, 99% of women would not make it out of basic training.
The idea of anyone – man or woman – leading combat troops that has not been in combat themselves is ludicrous and dangerous.
Beyond that, a nation needs wombs. If you go to war, you don’t ship off your fertile women.
That’s an aspect I have not thought of…. it needs to be probed.
My thoughts were “everything in warfare and combat are being redefined. the individual talents and abilities of individuals will ALWAYS be put to good use regardless of sex. (gotta stop saying gender!) Where prior standards of warfare required a great deal of physical capability, newer, more modern warfare will less often be required. The idea of women in combat used to mean carrying weapons and ammunition and launching it against our enemies. Today it’s quite different and because of that, the differences between men and women play less of a role in modern and evolving warfare.” So STFU Senator. You don’t even know what’s going on.
A 120 lb woman cannot jog or run for miles with a 80 lb ruck on her back.
