A massive California wildfire is consuming some of the most valuable property around Los Angeles. The Pacific Palisades fire is expanding rapidly due to high winds and dry conditions. Making matters worse, firefighters are having a problem with water shortages to fight the fire due to California environmental standards.
An ariel shot shows the extent of the fire last night, and the situation is rapidly worsening. Firefighters are now focused on rescue efforts.
CALIFORNIA – A state of emergency has been declared in Los Angeles after a huge wildfire swept through hillsides dotted with celebrity homes.
The fire forced the evacuation of 30,000 people, some of whom abandoned their cars and fled on foot to safety.
Nearly 3,000 acres of the Pacific Palisades area between the coastal towns of Santa Monica and Malibu had burned by the Palisades Fire, officials said. Fire officials said that several people were injured, some with burns to faces and hands.
A second blaze dubbed the Eaton Fire broke out some 30 miles inland near Pasadena and doubled in size to 400 acres in a few hours, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.
California Governor Gavin Newsom, who was in Southern California to attend the naming of a national monument by US President Joe Biden, made a detour to the area to see “first hand the impact of these swirling winds and the embers”.
[…] Witnesses reported a number of homes on fire with flames nearly scorching their cars when people fled the hills of Topanga Canyon, as the fire spread from there down to the Pacific Ocean.
Firefighters in aircraft scooped water from the sea to drop it on the nearby flames. Flames engulfed homes and bulldozers cleared abandoned vehicles from roads so emergency vehicles could pass.
The fire burned some trees on the grounds of the Getty Villa, a museum loaded with priceless works of art, but the collection remained safe, the museum said.
Before the fire started, the National Weather Service had issued its highest alert for extreme fire conditions for much of Los Angeles County from Tuesday through Thursday, predicting wind gusts of 50 to 80 mph.
[…] Actor Steve Guttenberg told a local television station that friends of his were impeded from evacuating because others had abandoned their cars in the road.
“It’s really important for everybody to band together and don’t worry about your personal property. Just get out,” Guttenberg said. “Get your loved ones and get out. (read more)

Horrible. Sad for the losses and prayers for the safety of loved ones.
Meanwhile, Western NC recovers slowly and largely due to to the efforts of local civilians and private charity.

God bless those health care workers. They stayed at work, and protected the patients. They’re heroes, as much as firefighters and police officers are heroes.
Or the apocalypse. Buckle up.
Seems to me the California Dream may be turning a corner where only Nightmares exist: Is this KARMA?
Karma
Do you mean
Gods judgement
Sure appears that way to me…
omg can’t watch it, can’t look.
Did the fires spread that quickly or did people wait too long to evacuate? This is a nightmare.
Eaton fire:
8:15 PM 400 acres
11:30 PM 600 acres
7:20 AM 2,300 acres
10:09 AM 10,600 acres
With 90-100 mph behind the winds, these fires are just blowtorches. Nothing will stop them until Mother Nature tells the wind to stop blowing.
I believe they’re through the worst, but they have another day of 60-70 mph winds. ‘Worst’ is a relative term here.
Didn’t see your post was next but yes indeed!
100 mph dry desert wind+fire=rapid blowtorch.
SkyFi
Can’t fly
Cuz Bidens in town
He’s a great grandfather is all we need to know right? sheesh
I saw that
Standing next to Gavin
Gavin was all smiley face
Cause?
C’mon man, everybody knows.
Global warming caused by internal combustion powered vehicles.
Want to bet how many EV’s are going to keep the flames going???
Power is cut no trains running, have to use those dirty ICE powered soot mobiles to move folks.
I lived in So Cal for a few years and we had fires come through that took a number (in the mid 100’s) of homes. It is part of the ecosystem, many of the seeds of the plants there do not germinate without fire. The problem is that if you put out the fires that clear out the brush, the brush grows to the point where you cannot put it out if a fire starts.
Once the fire goes through, rains come and wash the soil into the sea and the mountains shrink. Then earthquakes come and the mountains grow. Forces of nature do not care if you are in the way.
My condolences to those who have lost loved ones and precious possessions.
I’ll Take A Hurricane Any day Over This!!!
True. Mother Nature does as God wishes.
But from what I’ve heard, the area also suffers from perhaps the most addle-pated approach to fire management and mitigation in the entire country (well, maybe excepting Hawaii).
While I never desire harm to anyone, they should evacuate them to Western N.C. so they can feel what it’s like to be abandoned by their government.
Last big Malibu fire they had their water was cut off and diverted somewhere else.
Now Malibu is basically a no fire fight zone, so the fire and winds are being allowed free rein.
Not a time to play who’s a bigger victim of the government.
Malibians used to joke if your home was next to a mega mansion with private firefighters sent by the ins companies, your home would have a good chance of being saved, if anything to keep the embers from sparking the place next door.
They aren’t saying that this time, the winds are too wild. With no private firefighting going on, and their municipal firelighters so few that LA is recruiting firefighters in real time with a phone number to call, homeowners can assume any structure is a loss.
Put up signs saying FIRE FREE ZONES…that should stop the fire from harming anyone. It works on guns (according to the left), so let’s take that same successful tactic and apply it to forest fires. Liberal ideas at work.
I also wrote a favorite retail establishment I USED to shop at when they put up “No Guns” signs, they should also put up “No Stealing” signs to reduce their shrink.
Everyone with half a brain, knows signs eliminate bad behavior.
I’ve also heard that Deer Crossing signs help direct the deer across highways.
And all the while the Pacific Ocean is right there in eyesight….EXPLAIN insanity for me again, will you?
From an article about what types of wood to avoid burning at https://www.trustatrader.com/help-advice-articles/wood-burning-woods-to-avoid.
You don’t burn salt water driftwood, “…because driftwood has been soaked in salt water, meaning that it is full of chloride. When this chloride is burnt, it releases dioxide, which is poisonous.”
The burning of salt water has issues, too.
https://firefighterline.com/is-salt-flammable/
Better to take a chance on salt water to put out the flame, or salt water to exacerbate the fire — if the conditions are there to do so?
Because even Chubb pulled out. They used to send private firefighters.
seems they may be getting a first hand lesson in what bad government can do.
A very hard lesson.
Lahaina knows what it feels like to be abandoned
let newsom, biden and harris fight the fire…..think they are like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and will be saved from the flames?
“let newsom, biden and harris fight the fire” Best suggestion of the day. Would that it were so.
It makes me sad that the people have to suffer….that being said….the federal funding is what the government of Cali wants that what keeps their woke policies going…👎
LA is screwed by its government and the state government in CA screws and abandons the people on a regular basis.
Frankly, we don’t need to go across country to get a lesson in crappy government – where do you think this crap starts???
I just caught an interview on Fox with a woman who escaped the Palisades with her family. She claims that the mayor of the town was currently out of the country, someplace attending a ceremony for a government official. There was no emergency evacuation plan in place. The water pressure was non existent so firefighters had no water to fight the fire. She claimed the problem with low water pressure was caused by something the government had done, I didn’t catch the reason. It’s a devastating situation, exacerbated by the incompetence of the authorities in charge.
Mayor’s in Ghana
what the…
smiley: Per my comment up-thread, Mayor Bass used to travel to Ghana on congressional junkets when she was a Congresscritters. It’s a great gig. Free trip, royal life style. Lots of palm-greasing.
that’s just swell !
Government regulations….. the water reservoirs were not refilled and left empty.
How’d she vote?
If she was a Dim voter…
…that could be all over now.
“No water to fight the fire”. Even thought the Pacific Ocean is in eyesight….
Is the water feeding META data centers?
I saw a video from James Woods’ house with the fire lapping up by his pool. He wasn’t there, but his caretaker? was. This is horrific. It’s a stark reminder of what those poor people in Lahaina, Maui went through. Praying for the end of this quickly.
I believe Woods lives in Pacific Palisades.
and I think he just had that house renovated.
It’s being ‘renovated’ again according Divine Providence. God is in control of all of our lives.
He was there. He posted a video. and said he was about to evacuate.
I’ve seen the video you are talking about. It’s kind of weird because who was this guy at his house after he evacuated?
Neighbor? Or maybe a “private firefighter” as they mentioned above. It looked really scary!
Saw that also. Anyone with an X account, please check to see if James has post any further information. Thank you.
I read that he said his house is gone and he has no insurance.
Heartbreaking. Thank you for the update.
https://nitter.poast.org/realjameswoods
For some reason I couldn’t pull him up on Nitter. Thank you for your link!
Your welcome.
Many of the old nitters are no longer functional due to X changes as I recall, at least this one still works tho Mr Woods links to one that gives me warnings (the 600+ music one) even using this nitter.poast.org would not load it & not interesting enough for me to expend more time on to view.
Why would he have no insurance?
That’s weird coz James is one of the few in CA with common sense – I thought.
Cancelled about 4 months ago… Insurance company stopped coverage in that area, I read.
Starting to sound like a set-up. Just ever-skeptical me. After Lahaina and the TN/NC floods — nothing is what it seems (to me, anyway). No flood insurance. No fire insurance. Someone wants this land on the cheap.
My business insurance company back door canceled me, as they would not renew my insurance after 7 years of coverage because (zero claims) ……. they did not like my HOURS.
Which to me sounds suspiciously like, we need more money to cover our losses elsewhere such as the flash mobs looting high end product stores.
So to get another insurer my rate went up by 120% & this year it went up more…. didn’t even calculate percentage. Total tho from 850.00 a year to now 3000 this year.
Talked to other business around here… some were outright canceled for …… being 24 hours as a HOTEL.
With the accompaniment of a 100%+ rate increase to get replacement coverage.
Notice …. Walmart is a standard 6am to 11pm national now no more (or few) 24 hr “super” walmarts post WuFlu.
I can point to the law that past post hurricane Andrew as I recall that insurance companies could not just pass the losses onto people who live in hurricane zone … so now we all pay for it, which now includes IDtenT states that have made looting legal now.
About the only major loss I could claim here is for a forest fire or a volcano and I’m pretty sure both of those are the famous no coverage “Act Of God” clause.
So the increase just gets passed on to customers, this will be passed on to taxpayers by the feds covering it for the west coasters whereas the NC hurricane victims ….. 750 bucks.
I read elsewhere (Breitbart) that insurers studied the conditions that CA govt have set in motion and NO private insurer is even offering insurance in the area so you cannot buy it.
I believe the only insurance option left is the CA govt insurance @ 10,000/year per 1,000,000 of valuation (which is shack in CA).
So conservatively (by my SWAG) those homes would be 100,000+/year for coverage.
So I expect those that build back, like some FL people did…. is now solid concrete homes that will not burn structurally anyway, you may still lose contents to fire/water intrusion.
FAIR CA govt insurance

Thanks for this, Magic.
You can’t escape these fires. Maybe jump in the pool with a wet towel to cover your head. Maybe.
Yeah, the Lahaina folks jumped in the ocean, but the pool, maybe? This is so frightening!
It would have to be a flash fire, sustained would either remove sufficient oxygen to survive or burn lungs with heat on inhale.
Scuba gear in a pool would be a James Bond survival tactic, so long as the pool never exceeded 125 degrees max anyway. Natural hot(spring) tub’s here are limited to 114 degrees by state code, I can barely take a 110 for about 10 minutes.
Haven’t heard of any fatalities yet.
Thank you Jesus

Be interesting to see the Feds response to this.
Climate Change. Oh, and it’s Trump’s fault.
They’ll throw 💰💰💰 at it, like always.
So far, their response has been to announce another $500M to Ukraine.
It’ll be >$750. This state voted democrat.
Prayers for those people, prayers for the fire fighters and the resources they need
A disgusting reminder that it is always the people who pay for the absurd choices of government.
I wonder…are the firefighters only helping those that voted for Trump? They may need to focus their efforts on homes that have Trump signs in the yard. I hear that is a good way to govern.
but it is the people who elect the gov officials who make these absurd choices.
Bingo!
Not in CA – where do you think the plans for election stealing and ballot harvesting came from?
We really didn’t vote this sh*t in…..
Did you vote FJB in in 2020??
It is also, unfortunately, a reminder that elections (and selections, in some cases) can have devastating consequences.
Especially STOLEN ones!
The area where people abandoned their cars was never on fire. Lots of vid after showed that. People were not running for their lives. There was however lots of standstill traffic on PCH, with all the feeder streets included, and it seems people chose to hoof it and BLOCK traffic instead of wait their turn to exit the area.
It was sunset blvd close to the palisades- not many ways to evacuate. apparently the firefighters told them to leave their cars- then brought in the fire dozer to push the cars out of the way. “Streetpeopleoflosangeles” reporting from the ground today on IG.
They were on tv with Steve Guttenberg, who looks nothing like he used to, and shorter too, but anyway, telling people to stop abandoning their cars and taking the keys. I don’t see firefighters jumping down from their truck telling people to block the road so they can’t get through. Something with that story isn’t right.
I read they were supposed to leave the keys- but I also agree that something isn’t right. My neighbor is a fire chief, I’ll ask him what happened with that in a few days.
A lot of actors are shorter than you are allowed to see. RDJ’s Tony Stark stands on platforms in the Marvel movies. He’s 5’7”.
In Colorado Springs during the Waldo Canyon fire, we had a situation when the fire blew down Queens Canyon and the Mountain Shadows area had to evacuate. They had all 6 lanes of Woodmen Rd eastbound dedicated to getting people out, and it was still terrifying and a massive traffic jam ensued.
LA is 1,000x worse traffic. Not surprised people just gave up and started on foot.
they couldn’t pull to the side of the road?
It is alleged that one of the roadways were blocked by fire trucks attempting to put out the fire in a commercial district. Questionable priorities if true.
Tiffthis: Yeah, I saw the video of the bulldozer pushing parked cars out of the way. The are not many ways in and out of the Palisades. Sunset Blvd. and Pacific Coast Highway. That’s it.
it only takes one person in front to make the choice to abandon his car, all the rest are subject to his stupidity.
That’s one way to get out of an upside-down car loan.
Keep voting in leftists who adopt ‘environmentally correct policies and you end up with improper clearing of brushlands and not enough water for the firefighters to handle the flames. Way to go, Californians! You let idiots like Newsom run things and this is what you get.
This is not California’s first rodeo; they never learn.
Praying this is different.
-Mayor Karen Bass is out of town in Ghana for a presidential inauguration. -She cut 17 million from the fire department to save money.
-Biden landed in Burbank today, for some event, then turned around when they saw the smoke.
He’s never been known for his courage under fire
Good one 😅
And has a DEI Fire Chief, much like the Ghost Ship Fire in Oakland presided over by Teresa Deloach Reed
Malibu oceanfront…about 2 hrs ago…
winds are 70 – 100 mph
All of it just so incredibly tragic and sad….
unrecognizable.
Cataclysmic.
Prayers for safety.
Simply no words. Just prayer.
Does Hunter still live in a 60K per month rental in this area paid for by the Sugar bro?
All the underbrush fuel provided to the fire courtesy of saving an endangered mouse, and the libtard’s warped sense of proprieties where you can’t kill a mouse but it’s okay to kill babies.
Calabasas this afternoon. You can’t see in the pic but it was all pink and glowing.
How terrifying! Prayers for all of those in the path of this fire. May God calm those winds and bring rain.
From my bathroom window, the orange way back are the fires. It looks like the pits of hell. Devastating 😢
Where are you located? I’m in Mar Vista. Have been taking photos from the fire from the balcony.
I’m in the valley- close to Woodland Hills. Not in the path of any current fires.
Yikes! You are not that far from the Palisades fire either.
Take care of yourself and know we are praying for you all.
Stay frosty and safe!
Wow, just looked up where you are. Does look like you are far from the Palisades fire.
Take care of yourself. We are praying for you.
May God bless you and yours, Tiffthis.
Reading Biden make a quick retreat. Perhaps he’s afraid of the pits of hell.
Praying you are kept safe from this. 🙏🙏🙏
Reminds me of the Hayman fire in Colorado in ’02. Except there wasn’t the population density.
Truly looks like the entrance to hell.
Has Gavin blamed climate change or global warming yet?
He will blame Trump
God bless and WAKE these PEOPLE up! They are suffering devastating losses that could have been prevented or ameliorated. Their Green New Deal has turned into a charred, murderous disaster. Wonder who they will discover set the blazes? There is always someone/something lately.
In those conditions, extremely dry and high winds, almost anything can set off a blaze and it moves quickly.
Once the winds are forecasted, wonder what ‘actions’ are taken or not? 🤔
Wondering, considering who and what we read about living in CA if they/he/she/ doesn’t hear about the winds and decide it a good time to burn down and make more room for settlements.
Don’t know who started it, but I’m sure that the FBI had been tracking him for sometime.
“I saw two white guys with Trump hats playing with matches……..” This is a developing story. Stay looned.
I wonder if the victims of this fire will get the same $750 “compensation” given to the NC flood victims?
Very astute question.
The property in Pacific Palisades is worth so much more than the Hillbillies in NC and TN. So, I imagine that they will be getting $1,500 in “compensation.
Already in CA, it is becoming very difficult to find private fire insurance for homes in canyons. Many people are have no choice but to join the FAIR program where the State of CA insures your home. But the price is around $10,000 per year for a $1,000,000 home (which is nothing in CA).
This is what happens when millions and millions of illegals are welcomed into a state. They displace the citizens and force them to move out into more rural areas to live where people and buildings ought not be. This turns low-to-no population areas into densely populated areas.
I grew up in SoCal just north of the San Fernando Valley. We would watch the fires burning the hills around us. At the time (1970s) there were only 50,000 people spread out over miles and miles of land. Now, the population of that valley/hill/canyon area is over 430,000 people. They built houses all up and down these hills and canyons and the fires still rage.
Illegal immigration ruined LA area and forced middle class people to escape to rural areas that were not meant to become cities. But they have.
Living in the LA area used to be nice but allowing it to be turned into the third world sh** hole compelled people to escape to where fires have always burned but the population was small.
Meanwhile due to Newscum, CA is losing it’s highest RE tax base. They need to sue him for criminal activity. Surely there’s something that can be charged.
.
Oh, now I get it why he said he doesn’t have insurance.
Sorry for James. Hope he can recover.
Hey James time to move to Florida!
I despise Gavin. However, this is a horrible tragedy and I don’t wish it on anyone. I left California a very long time ago as it degraded into mostly third world conditions. I personally don’t understand why anyone still lives there. So sad.
Yep, we left Simi Valley almost a couple decades ago. We lived through two local fires there in our time. One came within a half mile of our home. The fact the California refuses to use desalination for water is astounding. They literally have over 800 miles of oceanfront.
Only two types of people still live in California. Those who can afford to live there and those who can’t afford to move out.
You don’t see all the people leaving due to the influx of replacements.
Sundance, I know you know Peter Duke. Have you heard from him? Is his home still standing?
In 1998 Florida had horrific fires in the Daytona area. We passed laws mandating clearing undergrowth to prevent the severity of future fires. Memo to Gavin: give Ron DeSantis a call and discuss how we keep our undergrowth in check.
The smell lingered for quite sometime.
The park where I live has controlled burns every year, going on now.
Last year it was during turkey nesting season and had a noticeable effect on the number of new birds.
It’s a great idea for not just us living on the park but the area as a whole, it just the timing has always been an issue.
With it being state run they are always right, just ask them.
The people on the hillsides are required to clear the brush or they get fined, unless Gavin changed that and I doubt he did.
Same with easements.
My husband trained some people in this area in urban survival and evacuation, and one of the things he discovered is that Google maps will lead you into a fire area if you see that the road is non-congested.
It only looks on congested on the map, because cars may be abandoned or fire may be encroaching so it looks like there’s no traffic, and an open road.
That’s important to know.
LA fire chief is DEI –
DEI kills.
We just had a DEI Mayor leave after 8 years here in Virginia capital of Richmond.
The mismanagement, riots of 2020 he promoted the millions he paid his pals to take down statues and the waste was crushing to businesses and to infrastructure.
The new leftist mayor Dr Danny Avula helped usher in vax mandates under Blackface Northam.
6 days after being sworn in, Richmond’s water pumps and filter system broke down. For 3 days now no water and they have distribution centers to get bottled water.
The General Assemby of majority Dems had to postpone opening session today because no water.
DEI Mayor Stoney did not service or upkeep basic tasks.
City is a mess run by Dems for decades.
A very handsome “man.”
Looks as though she checks a few DEI boxes.
The Ghost Ship fire in Oakland that killed over 35 people also had a DEI installed fire chief – Teresa Deloach Reed – who was allowed to retire rather than face the consequences of her dearth of leadership and competence.
It goes without saying that I pray for all of the victims of the government failure as usual.
The fire triangle is oxygen, fuel, heat. The fuel load has been purposely UNMANAGED by blue state governments for decades in the name of Gaia. The water load in Cali has been purposely diverted to the ocean in the name of Gaia and her Delta Smelt.
Heat. Hmmm. As in Lohaina, the most valuable property in the area is being destroyed. Hmmm. I am sure natural lightning started the fire….
As sad as this disaster is, the people have what they voted for.
You can’t have “there is voter fraud in California” and “the people have what they voted for” simultaneously.
In California, it is usually arson.
I was born in 1948. Headlines all my life LITERALLY: Isreal and neighbors in war and California has wild fires.
When a problem doesnt get fixed it is because NO ONE WANTS IT FIXED.
Israel/Wars
California/Fires
you forgot one…
I am somewhat older than you and I agree it has been this way all my life as well.
Hope all the people who lost their homes get their 750 dollar checks soon…
Where is FEMA? Is Kamala providing $700 checks?
For those who track wildfires, this one is on the WatchDuty app site.

Watched these things play out from my porch 60+ years ago. Seems they’ve learned nothing.
Prayers for those affected. Santa Ana winds have always had a vote. It is something to behold & be humbled by.
LAFD Chief a D.E.I. hire.

Well it failed its first major test, bigly
It’s hard for me to pity the rich in California. With all the evil that comes from there, so much social destruction, I just don’t have it in me.
There are far more of us than them, even in CA. Pray.
I wish them well. Who knows how this started or what is feeding it but, maybe they should reconsider how they manage their forest land. God bless em.
It isn’t hindsight to say that a fire in this area with the wind should be a top concern for government officials. No plan, no mitigation. What do they pay these people for.
Maui?
Tragic and ironic. All this in a state that doesn’t want to burn natural gas to cook or heat water.
Have they banned wood fireplaces yet?
Mayor Karen Bass labelled voters who voted to recall three Republicans who supported revenue generation efforts she sponsored to handle a $42 billion dollar budget shortfall as terrorists: ““You vote for revenue and your career is over.” I don’t know why we allow that kind of terrorism to exist. I guess it’s about free speech, but it’s extremely unfair.”
Playbook verbal terrorism.
And the last I read was the complaining of firefighters that their Hydrants were dry of water….Let that sink in….You have the largest body of water on this earth right in front of you, but your fire hydrants are dry of water….Can it get any stupider?
where are the desalinization plants?
That’s what I keep thinking.
Yes it can.
Why doesn’t LA use desalination?
California regulators last year rejected a $1.4 billion desalination plant in Huntington Beach, citing not only the costs of the water but the hazards to marine life and risks associated with sea level rise and flooding.
Jan 27, 2023
I live in Las Vegas, NV. We have to send a large part of the water in Lake Mead to CA.
We had a meeting with a Water Expert to discuss the future of water in LV and he told us that CA was taking the water, using it, and dumping it into the ocean instead of building a water treatment plant and re-using it. So, NV paid for the water treatment plant because it is in NV’s interest to have CA conserve water.
CA is a bad neighbor.
I forgot to add that NV paid for the water treatment plant and then pays to have the water pumped back to Lake Mead.
Is this the so-called “Bend Over Nevada” initiative?
There are a lot of good people who live under the reign of terror of the liberal policies in California. No one deserves this.
Father God, I pray You to help the brave men and women of the LAFD and surrounding communities who are fighting this blaze. I ask You to supernaturally aide them in this fire’s suppression and that you would protect human and animal life there. There are many heroes running into that blaze this morning – give them stamina, wisdom, and above all mercy. I pray You indwell the evacuees with a sense of peace and good sense to keep the roads clear, so that emergency personnel would not be impeded. In Jesus’s Holy and Saving Name, AMEN
I was thinking of Navy vessels coming up the coast to pump ocean water onto the fire at the beaches, but ocean salt water and EV vehicle batteries don’t mix. Maybe another lesson to be learned… since we always seem to learn lessons the hard way.
God Be Merciful. A special prayer over my friends there.
Agreeing in prayer JWoo. This situation is just awful. 🙏🙏🙏
“Environmentalists Destroyed California’s Forests
Millions of acres of California forest have been blackened by wildfires this summer, leading to the usual angry denunciations from the usual quarters about climate change. But in 1999, the Associated Press reported that forestry experts had long agreed that “clearing undergrowth would save trees,” and that “years of aggressive firefighting have allowed brush to flourish that would have been cleared away by wildfires.” But very little was done. And now fires of unprecedented size are raging across the Western United States.
“Sen. Feinstein blames Sierra Club for blocking wildfire bill,” reads the provocative headline on a 2002 story in California’s Napa Valley Register. Feinstein had brokered a congressional consensus on legislation to thin “overstocked” forests close to homes and communities, but could not overcome the environmental lobby’s disagreement over expediting the permit process to thin forests everywhere else.
Year after year, environmentalists litigated and lobbied to stop efforts to clear the forests through timber harvesting, underbrush removal, and controlled burns. Meanwhile, natural fires were suppressed and the forests became more and more overgrown. The excessive biomass competed for the same water, soil, and light a healthier forest would have used, rendering all of the trees and underbrush unhealthy. It wasn’t just excess biomass that accumulated, but dried out and dead biomass.”

Fires set intentionally in Topanga State Park? Reminds me of Maui…

Due to HUMAN CAUSED climate change!
Oh, wait… Click to enlarge:
The last two years we’ve had more rain than usual. This year so far has been dry in So Cal. This is nothing new here. Some years are rainy, some are not. What is newer is this used to be a Red state and since it’s gone Blue has been on a downhill trajectory ever since. Very misaligned priorities here with the Democrats in charge. Reaping what has been sowed, unfortunately.
