Ignore the prices you see on the supermarket shelves and listen to the Farm Bureau folks. The price of a Thanksgiving dinner for ten people is five percent lower this year. You can feed a family gathering of ten people for a mere $58.08, cool.
[Farm Bureau – SEE DETAILS HERE]
Farm Bureau: “Americans stocking up for this year’s Thanksgiving dinner will see a dip in their grocery bills for the second year in a row. The 39th annual American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) Thanksgiving dinner survey finds that the classic feast for 10 will run you $58.08, down 5% from last year. However, this is still 19% higher than five years ago.” (link)
I mean, seriously? A Thanksgiving dinner for ten people for around $58?
Does anyone else find this a little challenging to believe?
Suspicious Cat has gone from, well, suspicious to shocked!

I use at least a lb of butter a tgiving.
A stick for the turkey.
A stick for the potatoes.
Half a stick for stuffing.
Another stick on the table for bread.
And I haven’t even considered the desserts.
A lb a butter was $1.84 on sale at aldi two years ago. It’s now $4 ($3.64 on sale?)
Clever leaving that off the tgiving list.
We use a lot of butter around here.
It’s just like the Pilgrims… almost
Liars!
I just got back from store… I use the same photocopied shopping list– stemming from all my mom’s many decades old recipes. My shopping for goes back 12y or so.
Used to be for 4-6… just the sides: yummy potatoes, candied yams, stuffing, corn pudding, asparagus soufflé, green bean casserole (tip: use french style beans (3), double cream of mushroom & no milk).
Anyhow, I tried to half ingredients for all that I could & since I’ll be the only one eating it… $77.11!
In past buying full amounts + apple pie ingredients which I skipped on… it was typically under $70.
So I figure at least 33% + higher.
*I was gonna boycott cooking entirely… but I didn’t want my mom to haunt me 😉
Where is the butter, the oil, onions, etc.. etc… its all free?
And what kind of clown recipe are they following… you serve the turkey still frozen in plastic as a desert treat in a pie shell?
The cheapest gallon of milk at Safeway is $5.49 (loaded with rBST), so 70% higher than this nonsense list.
The farm bureau just put themselves in the bullseyes of DOGE with this. (this graphic took three farm bureau economist to create and a whole team of designers).. you could feed likely 5,000 people with the money wasted on this lie.
Those people are smoking funny stuff.
I just went to my local grocery for a couple things I forgot plus sodas. One pound of stick butter, generic, $3, 1 gallon skim milk, $5. Three lb bag of onions, 1.69, generic marshmallows $.99. Five 12pks soda, $37.
I buy skim milk because milk here is priced by fat content, 2% is $.69 more, full fat over $6. A flat of 30 eggs is about $15.
I can say I am very thankful for my local grocery. They really work at keeping prices as low as they possibly can. They have a fantastic meat section. Picked up a 7.5 lb. chicken the other day for $1.29/lb. Can’t beat that.
Happy Thanksgiving to all ya’ll.
My name is Kitty. I love your “Kitty” pics. I share them with friends and acknowledge where they come from. Happy Thanksgiving!
