Biography: Isambard Kingdom Brunel is one of the most famous figures of the Industrial Revolution in Britain. Born to a French engineer settled in Britain, Brunel first worked for his father on the Thames Tunnel.
In 1833 Brunel was appointed chief engineer for the proposed Great Western Railway. Brunel made the far-reaching decision to choose the broad gauge in place of the standard gauge. This decision enabled the trains to run at faster speeds and was eventually adopted throughout the country.
While working for the Great Western Railway, which ran London to Bristol, Brunel was responsible for the design of many impressive bridges, viaducts and railway stations.
Brunel is equally remembered for his three great ships, the ‘Great Western’, launched 1837, the first steamship to do a transatlantic service. The ‘Great Britain’ (1843), was the world’s first iron-hulled, screw propeller-driven, steam-powered passenger liner and the ‘Great Eastern’ (1859) laid the transatlantic cable.

That’s when I got serious about “gun culture” in our country and recognized the need to become better armed. I bought a better handgun. I also joined the NRA and GOA. I am now quite well armed (as I assure you are also).
Since I live in a neighborhood that is quite politically progressive, I tend to be discrete about being armed—especially never letting people know when I choose to go out armed . . . COMMENTARY FOR PSALMS 96
A call to all people to praise God. (1-9) God’s government and judgment. (10-13)
1-9 When Christ finished his work on earth, and was received into his glory in heaven, the church began to sing a new song unto him, and to bless his name. His apostles and evangelists showed forth his salvation among the heathen, his wonders among all people. All the earth is here summoned to worship the Lord. We must worship him in the beauty of holiness, as God in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself. Glorious things are said of him, both as motives to praise and matter of praise.
10-13 We are to hope and pray for that time, when Christ shall reign in righteousness over all nations. He shall rule in the hearts of men, by the power of truth, and the Spirit of righteousness. His coming draws nigh; this King, this Judge standeth before the door, but he is not yet come. The Lord will accept the praises of all who seek to promote the kingdom of Christ. The sea can but roar, and how the trees of the wood can show that they rejoice we know not; but He that searches the heart knows what is the mind of the Spirit, and understands the words, the broken language of the weakest. PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
