Various media outlets are saying approximately 10 republican senators are in opposition to the nomination of Matt Gaetz for various DeceptiCon reasons. More than likely the same ones who supported AG Merrick Garland, I digress.
Into this mix of squishy spinelessness comes former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy who has an axe to grind against his former nemesis.
WASHINGTON DC – Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy does not believe outgoing Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) will be confirmed as attorney general by the Senate after President-elect Donald Trump selected him as his nominee on Wednesday.
Some of Trump’s picks for his Cabinet, including Gaetz for attorney general and former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard for director of national intelligence, have garnered strong reactions on Capitol Hill and in the wider political world. McCarthy, whose speakership was ended by a successful motion to vacate filed by Gaetz in October 2023, told Bloomberg he believes Trump’s nominees are good, except for Gaetz.
“I think the choices are very good, except one. Gaetz won’t get confirmed, everybody knows that,” McCarthy said.
When pressed on why he thinks Trump picked Gaetz for his attorney general nominee, McCarthy said it was a “good deflection” but did not elaborate further.
McCarthy and Gaetz have had a public feud over the past several years, coming to a head during the former’s bid for House speaker in 2023. The Florida Republican led efforts to block his bid for speaker in January 2023, leading to 15 rounds of voting, and had threatened to file a motion to vacate against McCarthy until he did on Oct. 3, 2023.
Since McCarthy’s removal, he has not minced words about Gaetz. In April, the former speaker claimed the Florida congressman ousted him because Gaetz wanted to stop an ethics complaint alleging he slept with a minor. Gaetz has flatly denied the allegations and called McCarthy a “liar.”
The former House speaker did praise Trump’s other Cabinet picks, including Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) for secretary of state. (read more)

Congressman-soon-to-be-AG Gaetz may be a better politician than he’s been given credit for given it sounds like the same talking heads said Gaetz would never succeed in getting rid of McCarthy as Speaker of the House.
The smears against Gaetz are very reminiscent of the same tactics used against Judge Roy Moore of Alabama. They made up a pack of lies to try to take him down because he was a threat. The fact that they are completely fabricated lies doesn’t matter to the morally bankrupt libturds, their purpose is to cloud the victim in suspicion long enough to disrupt the process. It worked against Judge Moore, but I don’t think it will against Gaetz. The left has used this tactic too often ( like the boy who cried “wolf”).
Mr. Whiny-butt McCarthy needs to wake up to the fact that he brought the loss of the Speaker position upon himself. Gaetz had the cajones to do what everyone in MAGA country wanted him to do, oust the RINO.
I love Matt Gaetz and his fire and if Trump can slip him past the Senate RINO’s he will make us proud in cleaning out that cesspool called Dept. Of “Justice”.
I predict Kevin McCarthy will not be the leader of the House of Representatives.
Especially because he’s not even a Representative any more.
neither is Gaetz for that matter.

My prediction: Gaetz gets a recess appointment. A bunch of members of congress and a number of senators quickly resign and leave the country. There are a bunch of criminals in that capitol building and they don’t want to go to federal prison or be hauled in shackles before a military tribunal.

Gaetz was not nominated in order to get through. He was nominated, IMHO, as a heat shield to protect Tulsi and RFK. Typically, a President loses on some nominations so that the idiots in the Senate have someone they can put in the Wickerman in order to show the cameras they are resisting.
Gaetz is that guy.
The fact is, by getting voted down he accomplishes a few things:
1) Goes out like a boss with MAGA voters
2) He gets to leave the House before his ethics report is released
3) He gets to help Trump get through his other nominations
My guess is he’ll make mincemeat of Democrats at the hearing, just because he can. He’ll get voted down by the Harpy-wing of the GOP (Suisa Murkollins), and some conglomeration of Tillis, Mullin, and the Iowan Jezebel. Then, he’ll get appointed to something the Senate can’t mess with him on, and Trump will put in the person he really wants.
Then, when that person is approved, Trump will troll America and let them in on his master plan.
Then, DeSantis appoints him to replace Marco Rubio

As much as I want to see Gaetz in AG spot, I think you’re right. I would dearly love to see him plopped right down in the Senate as well.

Never liked him! And I remember my first thing with him. Trump was President…before Ryan became House Speaker…and McCarthy had come out and said something really stupid having to do with Clinton which did not sit well with Trump at the time. Not that people did not agree with what he said…but the timing and context of his release was so bad it soured me about him from that day forward.
Many from those days turned out to be frauds. Look at Trey Gowdy. All the talk that he was going to do something back then…..well he did….he ran from DC and took a cushy job with one of the e ememy corrupt media outlets…Fox News! That’s kryptonite for the Senate. I foresee huge manipulations to keep him from doing recess appointments.
But all it takes is one Senator to object (MAGA Senators are you listening?), or one President to adjourn both houses.
I think going Article III, Section 2 is the thermonuclear WMD – last resort.
That said, with so much opposition to so many of PTrump’s nominees – if the MAGA Senators don’t step up on adjournment calls, PTrump may have to force the issue.
The lines between who needs to go and who gets to stay are very quickly getting defined.

Kevin McCarthy has demonstrated poor judgement in the past. This is more of the same. He is desperate to “remain relevant”.
Listening to Jessie Kelly yesterday, he has a theory that Gaetz was a sacrificial pick with the intention of Gaetz filling the now vacated Senator seat left by Rubio. Makes sense to me because the RINOS can deny one pick and survive, but not more than one.
McCarthy is a quitter. He is not important and needs to fade into the sunset. He lost all credibility when he lost the speakership and then quit putting the majority at risk.
He lost it all much before that!

IMO the Washington Examiner should not be talking to Kevin McCarthy who isn’t even a Representative any more. He resigned at the end of 2023, almost a year ago. Let MSNBC interview him.
He doesn’t need to be AG, though I’d love to see it. He could be a czar with special powers authorized by the president. He’ll be able to dig up and show a lot of stuff.
