Various media outlets are saying approximately 10 republican senators are in opposition to the nomination of Matt Gaetz for various DeceptiCon reasons. More than likely the same ones who supported AG Merrick Garland, I digress.
Into this mix of squishy spinelessness comes former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy who has an axe to grind against his former nemesis.
WASHINGTON DC – Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy does not believe outgoing Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) will be confirmed as attorney general by the Senate after President-elect Donald Trump selected him as his nominee on Wednesday.
Some of Trump’s picks for his Cabinet, including Gaetz for attorney general and former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard for director of national intelligence, have garnered strong reactions on Capitol Hill and in the wider political world. McCarthy, whose speakership was ended by a successful motion to vacate filed by Gaetz in October 2023, told Bloomberg he believes Trump’s nominees are good, except for Gaetz.
“I think the choices are very good, except one. Gaetz won’t get confirmed, everybody knows that,” McCarthy said.
When pressed on why he thinks Trump picked Gaetz for his attorney general nominee, McCarthy said it was a “good deflection” but did not elaborate further.
McCarthy and Gaetz have had a public feud over the past several years, coming to a head during the former’s bid for House speaker in 2023. The Florida Republican led efforts to block his bid for speaker in January 2023, leading to 15 rounds of voting, and had threatened to file a motion to vacate against McCarthy until he did on Oct. 3, 2023.
Since McCarthy’s removal, he has not minced words about Gaetz. In April, the former speaker claimed the Florida congressman ousted him because Gaetz wanted to stop an ethics complaint alleging he slept with a minor. Gaetz has flatly denied the allegations and called McCarthy a “liar.”
The former House speaker did praise Trump’s other Cabinet picks, including Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) for secretary of state. (read more)

I do not think there is any way that President Trump will withdraw his nomination.
There are so many institutions in the Washington fiefdom that are corrupted, but can’t think a more group than the DOJ/FBI that needs to be thoroughly reformed. We need someone with no fear, high energy, and committed to do the job-legally.
That’s why so many fear Gaetz. The corruption that is Washington DC will be revealed, IMO.

I just read that the President can put the Senate in recess if the Senate and House disagree on the time of adjournment, and that no president in history has ever done this. If that’s true, this will be a big test for Johnson.
And if one Senator can put the Senate in recess like I remember from a few years ago, surely Thune won’t have enough leverage to reign them all in like McConnell apparently did.

Mainer here. Our Maine GOP failed to run a candidate against Collins in her last election. My guess is that Collins was given some sweet deal in exchange for her support of SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Her current term expires in 2026. Rumor has it she will seek re-election. I agree she needs to go. The question remains…does Maine GOP have the spine to primary her?
Perhaps by 2026 with an infusion of DJT winnimins they will find a backbone and a good candidate.

If the Senate Decepticons fail to approve the nomination, DeSantis could appoint Gaetz to Rubio’s vacant Senate seat.
DeSantis said he would appoint the senate seat around January 3rd. Wouldn’t be enough time to bring in Gaetz because Trump isn’t sworn in until late January triggering the confirmation process.
Has Rubio resigned his seat yet? The seat won’t be vacant until then. As long as Rubio stays in Senate until confirmed, the timeline works for Gaetz. Doesn’t mean DeSantis will do it, though.

My only concern regarding Matt Gaetz is that PDJT might abandon him if he sees the confirmation hearings not going so well for Gaetz. Remember Trump was about to quit on Brett Kavanaugh until he saw Brett handle himself well against the attacks by the DemonRats. I want Trump to see Matt all the way through even if Trump has to use all of his political capital to make it happen. The AG office as we have seen in the first administration is too important to put anyone else in who is not committed and knows and understands the Deep State. Ken Paxton can be the Deputy AG.
