In the Reuters report you have to understand the difference in Russian cultural language to appreciate what President Vladimir Putin means when he says, “[Trump] behaved, in my opinion, in a very correct way, courageously, like a real man.”
Russians speak in very blunt terms when the behavior of men and women are evaluated. It sounds odd through a politically correct western filter, but Putin was just praising the ‘honesty’ and ‘strength’ of President Trump.
[Example: A Russian woman describing her husband would say to another Russian, “he is my best man.”]
The bottom-line indication from President Putin is that he welcomes the change in geopolitical dynamic that a pragmatic, honest and strong man brings to the table. Putin respects Trump. The baseline for a negotiated peace deal exists.

Trump said during campaigning that he could bring peace in Ukraine within 24 hours if elected, but has given few details on how he would seek to end the biggest land war in Europe since World War Two.
The 72-year-old Kremlin chief gave just one note of caution: “I do not know what is going to happen now. I have no clue.”
When pressed by a questioner what he would do if Trump called to suggest a meeting, Putin said he was ready to resume contacts if a Trump administration wanted that, and was ready for discussions with Trump. (more)

Look at the geography. The Russians are not in Odessa because first they could not get there and second it would be extremely difficult to keep it supplied if they had. They are happy just sitting back and destroying what they need to there with long range weapons.

Putin has been, frankly, the only adult in the room for the past 4. Years. I imagine he is relieved to finally have another adult to speak with so that these issues can be solved.
It’s very much a globalist v. state sovereignty issue. Russia is very protective of its own sovereignty, and regardless of our differences and disagreements with that country (and there are MANY that are valid), that truth remains. Putin, I’m sure, is hoping that reality is more important to Trump than the need to sink their economy (which hinges on oil and gas). You’ll note that the EU is already making overtures about lessening their dependence of Caspian oil in favor of US refined petroleum products. By upping out production in the US, we become a focus of, both, Russia AND EU. Biden removed that playing card by sabotaging out self-sufficiency. But, both sides know that Trump sees energy production as primary foundation of how he plans to lower inflation, make the US self-sufficient and remove foreign influence on US policy. Someone is going to win. Someone is going to lose. In the past, the choice was obvious. However, the EU’s behavior of late makes it a more difficult choice.
Its the EU going down the tubes now. Their financial engine, Germany, is in deep economic trouble. When the EU started reducing imports of Nat Gas and then the pipelines were blown up, Germany lost access to the cheap, plentiful and reliable Russian energy that their economy depended upon.
The chickens are now coming home to roost. First VW announces that it is planning to shut 3 of its German factories and lose 10,000 workers, now Bosch is laying off 7,000. This is just the start.
A few years ago many in Europe started to be concerned at the potential US reaction to the increasingly close relationships between Russia/Germany/China. If the US’s Deep State plan was to use Ukraine to drive in a wedge and eliminate a potential serious competitor it has to be one of the most successful strategic moves in history.

If zElensky gives away Ukraine’s claim on the 4 territories plus Crimea, the Ukronazis in his government will kill him. There are other levers here. What trade deal can Trump imagine that would incentivize Russia to stop its Ukraine activities? Meanwhile shutoff funding to Ukraine. The big project opportunity is to restore the land bridge across the Bering Straits. There is more to be gained for Russia and the U.S. in working together. This also helps Trump with winding down NATO. Time to rebalance alliances.

They should return to Russia’s original peace offer, which was not just about Ukrainian neutrality, but proposed that the contested Donbas states all become their own independent states.
All we needed to do at that time was negotiate the meaning of independence: that it had to mean genuine sovereignty of the people in perpetuity, with constitutional guarantees sufficient to ensure honest elections, free speech, and no weaponization of the powers of government against political opponents.
That is the last thing that our election-stealing Democrats wanted, which I believe is part of the reason why Obama sent Harris to Ukraine to force them to reject Russia’s terms for peace.
But now we have a president who has election integrity as a main domestic objective. Pursuing the same ideals as the basis for an international peace agreement would be ideal.
Obama/Biden/Harris pretended that they wanted a proper “rules based international order.” Sovereignty of the people is the only proper basis for such an order, so let’s take advantage of the opportunity to set that standard.
We could use it as a model for our own reform efforts: a federal law forcing all states to require voter i.d., no electronic voting machines, paper ballots, clean voter rolls, fully auditable elections at every stage, same day in-person voting with rare and carefully document exceptions, maybe a voting week, if actually needed, but no ballot drop-boxes, all in-person only, with i.d.s checked and maybe purple fingers given.
Maybe we could even get Russia to go along, and then start pushing Europe: “Hey, your EU ‘commissar’ system violates the rules-based international order!”
And eliminate “Tabulation centers” and have all counting done AT THE PRECINCT LEVEL, and keep the precincts small.
Yes, precinct level would be the right place to conduct a required matching between the number of votes counted and the number of registered voters who are recorded as having voted.
I was stunned to learn about the lawsuit to force Georgia (?) to show that its number of registered voters who submitted ballots matched the number of ballots/votes tallied.
What??? This check wasn’t already in place? Leaving the door open for anyone to print up as many ballots as they want and slip them onto the pile of ballots that have already been pulled from ballot sleeves submitted by recorded voters?
That tallying needs to take place at the smallest component level, so that any problems can be connected to the place where they are occurring, allowing the damage to be limited. Otherwise there is no way to locate the perpetrators, and there is no remedy but to run the entire election over again (which the courts will generally not consider, even when the problems are seen to be real).

The Eastern part of Ukraine, as is Crimea, is composed mainly of Russians. Those areas have now all voted to join Russia. Patrick Lancaster reported from the voting booths at the time.
They are now on Russian pensions and Russian phone systems and Russian passports. Various parts of Russia are now financing and rebuilding selected areas of now ex Ukraine areas.
There will be no giving back any of these areas to Ukraine.
Putin invaded because Ukraine was about to launch a large attack against those areas. Eastern Ukraine Nazis have been bombing these areas since 2014 coup staged by USA via Victoria Newland.

They also noted that these contractors will be located far from the front lines and they will not be fighting Russian forces.

One thing about Putin’s “manly man behavior” comment, which was apt for him to point out in terms of President Trump’s character – if Harris had been shot in the ear, she would have cowered under the sheets for the rest of the campaign and the glass bullet shields surrounding her would have been behemoths. Imagine her then sitting across from Putin at the negotiating table – it simply would not have happened. President Trump now towers over Putin both literally AND figuratively, which gives him significant gravitas in the pursuit of peace through strength.
She’d’ve had to have half a bag on to sit at that table, and there would be no fooling a Russian president as to whether she was drunk or not.
According to Axios, a “source with knowledge” said that during Zelensky’s meeting with President Trump at Trump Tower, Trump told him, “I promise you will be happy with me”.

Now I don’t know if I trust Axios, and the “source with knowledge”, if he even exists, may be Zelensky himself, but that does sound like something Trump would say, and it sounds to me like, given that kind of reassurance, and given the fact that Ukraine now knows Trump will be the next president, we could be looking at a peace accord early next year.
This is a very dangerous time for that fragile country, this interim.
