On one side you have the International Longshoreman’s Association (ILA), which represents 50,000 East and Gulf Coast dockworkers. On the other side you have the U.S. Maritime Alliance, or USMX, an organization bargaining on behalf of the port owners, container owners and corporations. In a few hours the ILA is scheduled to strike against USMX.
A late breaking development:

I am not sure how this is going to eventually end but suffice to say at least a one-week strike is built into the current dynamic. I doubt any last-minute negotiations will stop that from happening, but you never know.
Below is a video reflecting the firm position expressed by ILA President Harold J. Daggett, who represents the interests of the workers. There are many who may not like the tone or expressed strike intent of Mr Daggett; however, given the nature of modern corporatism as it stands, what workers have been doing hasn’t been working to change the dynamic.
🚨This clip from an interview with ILA President Harold Daggett is worth a watch! These are the people that you describe all the time that have the power to shut the country down and they are not fucking around here! Ironically, he sounds just like George Carlin. #ILASTRIKE pic.twitter.com/cAp946zIUZ

I wonder what PDJT thinks about this
I think he would of had them both in a room at the WH until they had a deal. He lives for negotiating lol.
Have that McDonalds being piled in the middle of the table. You want extra fries, make a deal!
Take the talks to maralogo and add his wife as an arbitrator!😀
Don’t forget, 10% for the big guy.
The art of the deal. An 11 step process?
Because of the recent ongoing major hurricane disaster Trump would have envoked some act to keep them at the table for 60 days etc.
He would not have a hands off approach as the corrupt biden/harris regime has.🦨
60 days is not going to help the victims of Helene much. That’s barely enough time for the insurance adjusters to make an appearance (more like 6 months). Those survivors who are not prepared to shelter in place with lots of supplies until the roads are rebuilt, need to be moved ASAP. DeSantis air support is the correct approach. Some roads will be repaired quickly, others will take months. For most of them, they will be relying on handouts until they are setup in appropriate accommodations. From what I gather, homes that were in the path of tornadoes, mud slides and the like are probably not salvageable. The insurers are not going to be helpful to anyone. They will focus on minimizing corporate losses.
I bet he talks about this if they do go on strike. Trump does not mind unions in private businesses. He dealt with them all the time in NYC.
When Biden was asked if he’d get involved, he said no, adding that there was collective bargaining going on.
He said no rather quickly, too quickly I thought. His reason for declining came awfully fast as well. Unusually so for him.
And it occurred to me, looking ahead as I do (sometimes right, sometimes wrong) that perhaps the intention is to let this strike run and run and get so bad that a “national emergency” could be declared.
Harris is sinking fast. The VP debate tomorrow should show up Walz for what he is.
Time is getting short…what else do they have?
I’m really sticking my neck out on this one.
Does that sound crazy?
Not a bit crazy to me Betsy.
Well, there are two in the asylum if I am 😎 Thank you!
Definitely things are getting desperate.
Looking forward to tomorrow’s debate, Leave. Expecting at the end, things will be looking even more so.
No Betsy…it is perfectly logical… the people in DC are in a make everything bad for Americans mode… “anything “ that accomplishes the goal is fine…🤔☹️
🇺🇸💪😀👍
It seems to me, dear Jim, that since the 2020 election coup they have, to a man and woman, gone out of their way to do just that. Dems and RINOs both.
Yeah, they are making it perfectly clear that they don’t give a rat’s patootie what happens to Americans — it was obvious after J6. Then they allowed 13 (is that the correct number?) of our brave, young soldiers to die when they didn’t have to during the clueless Afghanistan withdrawal. Then, after Lahaina, Maui…it was definitely enemy action.
No Betsy. You’re not at all crazy! Look what the Uniparty did on j6! They declared an emergency and bypassed certifying the election!
Harris/Walz are up to their chins in quicksand. If the Uniparty can do it again and declare another “emergency”, they will!
BTW – Your neck will be spared!
Love your posts..
Too kind,.Mo….thank you.
And yes….for any government to abandon the nation’s citizens to the horrors we have seen from Helene without immediate assistance, to open the borders inviting and transporting in murderers, rapists, cartel members, to imprison and torture good patriots from a government instigated operation for years and years, to traffic children, etc….nothing is out of bounds in order to hang on to illegitimate power.
Its us that are in the quicksand if harris gets her regime.🦨
Not any crazier than anyone else.
👍🏻 😁
Crazy? Not any more crazy than trying to engage WWIII. Both would have the same impact of ending our Republic as we know it.
I think it is to help Trump. It just makes the administration look inept, which they are.
Might be…but as we know, no good deed goes unpunished.
No the corrupt dems will do anything.
No, not crazy.
If I were in that Union I definitely
wouldn’t want anyone in Biden
Administration involved in any
type of negotiation. Including Biden himself.
Their negotiating ability is highly questionable 🤨
and past attempts at any negotiations …on any topic..
have not ended well. 🤷♀️ 💁
I thought the same, about the rapidity of his response….
Am wondering if there is 10% for the Big Guy.
Nope, not crazy to me, Betsy. I am up at 3:30 a.m. EST because I woke up thinking about what I should do to prepare for this strike. Trying to buy some goods to send to Western NC for those poor swamped people up there. Plan to go out today to do this and perhaps stock up on things we might need.
I’m praying that we’re both crazy and wrong! LOL! God bless!
Lol, I am also up at 4:30 EST doing much the same thing. So much happening all at once.
Thank the good Lord for DJT.
In the words of one of Obama’s henchmen….too early, no coffee yet, can’t remember which…never let a crisis go to waste.
….Rahm Emmanuel.

Covid didn’t destroy enough jobs, businesses, lives…
Good head on your neck
Spinning off its axis, Miss P.
Nope.
Not at all. I believe the dems are beginning to realize they may not be able to cheat enough to “win” this time. So it’s going to be all out anything they can do to create pain, hardship, fear or even death for WeThePeople over the next 3 months. Their objective now will be to foment chaos while instigating & provoking violence everywhere, leaving as much of a mess as they can for Trump come Jan.
Four hopeful words there, SaoirseCainte….
“…for Trump come Jan.”
Lord, may it be so 🙏🏻
Not at all. It’s their same strategy with the hurricane disaster relief. You’re right, their ship is sinking quickly.
I apologize if someone else has said this below but what if this is to let Kamala come in on her white horse and negotiate this deal and look uber presidential?
Kamala could not negotiate a deal for a Happy Meal.
She is about 3 days late and at least 3 billion short.
I am thinking the same.
Turns out they had Iran bombing Israel, a nice setup for WW3.
That is a great question. Rebuilding the US manufacturing base is the starting point. However, breaking up the monopolies worldwide has to happen. And Trump, by himself, can’t do that. It will take dozens of like minded world leaders to shove that genie back in the bottle.
I’m curious how much more work the dock workers got when more US manufacturing jobs were shipped overseas? I’m guessing dock workers weren’t needed as much when stuff was made here.
So, dock workers benefited greatly from offshored jobs. What percent increase in work? 50%? 80%?
During my union years our contracts never yielded any more than 4 or 5 %, and that was a multi-year contract from 3 to 5.
The globalists have that gamed out too. Large scale robotics and automation.
Oh goodness, what happens when something malfunctions? Are they programmable? I’m assuming. Why are they only striking on the east coast? Because the jobs are already gone on the west?
Here’s something I found that explains this mess pretty well.
The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) is demanding a “total ban on automation” in their contract negotiations, seeking to protect jobs from the introduction of automated cranes, gates, and container movements. This stance reflects the union’s concern about the potential displacement of human workers by technology. The ILA is also seeking higher wages and benefits, citing the industry’s profitability and the need for workers to share in the benefits of technological advancements.
Influence on the Future of the Industry
Automation and digitalization will likely continue to shape the dockworkers’ industry, with potential implications for job security, worker skills, and operational efficiency. Some possible scenarios:
Resistance to automation: The ILA’s demands may lead to a temporary halt or slowdown in automation adoption, allowing workers to adapt to new technologies and negotiate better working conditions. However, this resistance may not be sustainable in the long term, as shipping companies may seek to optimize operations and reduce costs through automation.Compromise and adaptation: As seen in Rotterdam, early-retirement packages or other compromises might be negotiated to mitigate the impact of automation on workers. This could involve retraining programs or new job roles that leverage human skills alongside automation.Shift to higher-value tasks: As automation takes over routine and repetitive tasks, dockworkers may focus on higher-value activities, such as complex cargo handling, logistics coordination, or maintenance and repair of automated systems. This could lead to a more skilled and specialized workforce.Increased use of digital technologies: The industry may accelerate the adoption of digital technologies, such as 5G, IoT, and AI-driven systems, to optimize operations, improve supply chain visibility, and enhance customer service. This could create new job opportunities in areas like data analysis, software development, and digital asset management.Ultimately, the future of the dockworkers’ industry will depend on the balance struck between technological advancements and labor concerns. A compromise that addresses workers’ needs while acknowledging the benefits of automation could lead to a more sustainable and efficient industry.
THX – good background
We also have Chinese spy cranes at US ports all across the country.
I guess that’s what happens we spend all our money on Ukraine and human /drug trafficking.
Maybe that’s why they are demanding better payments now; they know when President Trump is back in the White House, their work will decrease.

When our manufacturing is producing here, the longshoremen are working as much with exports as imports. When we are energy independent, we are shipping oil and LPG to other countries. A strong America equals a strong import/export economy. MAGA!
Exactly goods start GOING instead of COMING…EXPORTS are King .Imports are tariffs
America First baby.
When we produce more, we export more, I don’t think it makes a big difference.
Don’t they handle both export and import goods
on the docks?
🤔 🤔 🤔
Stock up on toilet paper.
I bet if we all wear masks and stay locked inside everything will be fine.
How are we going to get jabbed again if we have to stay locked inside?

Didn’t Pfizer come up with a nasal spray so we can self administer?
How about when start putting the jab in our food?

Bewildered…: I love it when fellow CTH readers analyze problems and offer practical solutions. 😁
According to my nephew who is an import exporter paper products come into the west coast ports.
There’s little reason the US should be importing paper products with as many forests we have. Paper products that can be produced through responsible forestry practices.
I cannot hate globalism enough for crushing US industries and small businesses.
I don’t know why we’re importing paper either. I remember my father telling me that US paper companies were the second largest owners/managers of forests slightly behind the US Government. And they did a better job managing them as well.
I know some of it. Paper companies managed a lot of forests in Maine. Who knew it used to be profitable to be good stewards of the land?
They even allowed local hunters to hunt on their land.
When I started in printing, a roll of paper for a web (newspaper) press was a few hundred bucks.
When the company went belly up, the same roll was 3500 plus.
Anyone here remember Senator Proxmire and his Golden Fleece Award?
I see great things for Elon and his dept of efficiency…
And his findings were regularly published in the Readers Digest. One of the highest circulation magazines of the time…..
And it was printed in the US, on American paper made from American trees.
The US Government has managed to ruin everything.
Smile…And we, the American taxpayer pay them to ruin everything. Up-side-down World.
Some things to remember.
“Best and the Brightest” they aren’t working in government. LOL
“AI”- ain’t. Think about the real life experience level of the people programming.
And the only accomplishment that a DC politician can hang their hat on.
All intentionally too.
Failure is the goal.
Very energy intensive process
Hemp is much better for paper products.
The cotton industry, and a few other industries will continue to pay politicians to demonize hemp and oppose bringing it to market.
Hemp makes too much sense, as it’s easy to grow, inexpensive, and can be used in many manufactured products. If it’s good for the people, then it’s then it’s bad for corporations and their puppet politicians.
Phew. That’s a relief.
I was at Costco today and they were starting to have the rush
people were grabbing Toilet paper and paper towels off the pallets as fast
as they were dragging them out from the back
certain brands were already sold out.
I might go back tomorrow to see if I can grab some more.
Where are you seeing this?
Talked with a Sams Club employee today and they said the same thing – people are panic buying. There was still lots of TP there though. Paper plates seemed to be going quickly, but I wonder if that’s mostly due to lots of people living/eating out of their cars. Parking lot was very full in the early afternoon (huge contrast from what I saw last week), but then again, it’s near the 1st of the month, so being a gubmint town, there’s probably lots of people buying stuff. I already have a decent supply, but we did bump up some canned veggies, TP, paper towels, canned fruits, and a couple of other things, but it was mostly normal weekly stuff or for the coming month. We’re doing caretaking for a couple of people and they have their finicky diets.
FIrst of the month = new SNAP cards.
My sister reported the same madness at Sam’s Club yesterday.
Same bullshyt was going on at a N E GA Walmart this afternoon.
and dog food! 👍

Wow, 50%.
50%. That’s insane. I heard some clips of the union president today. He seems like a swell guy. /s
I think that is over 5 years.
10% per year for 5 years?
They were demanding a 70% raise; so it does look like talks are happening.
All i can say is better start filling up your gas tanks…
The Reserve is empty
That should be a campaign slogan for Trump run 24/7.
And Bide, Harris, Graham et.al. want to start WWIII. “With What?”, I ask.
They had an oiler ground itself near the middle east. Fuel supplies are a huge concern and they’re having to deploy another one post-haste.
Your children’s and grandchildren’s bodies.
A New song – based off they’re eating the cat’s – The reserves are empty, the selves are empty, our wallets are empty, our tanks are empty, … Sung to the same tune and feel free to add additional lyrics. This administration IS destroying our lives/country on purpose!
President Trump filled the strategic reserve, and Joe Blow sold it to his boss in China.
they will settle and then layoffs will begin. Remember UPS? The employer is allowed to do whatever they want, it’s their company and you work for them.
I won’t see my wages go up by 50% before I effing retire.
I guarantee my retirement income will be worth 50% less long before I’m dead.
Unions, neo-fascist political elites, and Blackrock multinational monopolies. Ain’t it all grand?
Freemen, those of us they are all sucking the life blood out of, need to strike.
Galt’s Gulch
A general strike of our half of the country (more like 65-75) for a week or 10 days of things don’t go out way in November.
Then we get serious.
If.
Being a longshoreman seems like really tough work. Wonder how many have to quit work early due to ongoing bodily wear and tear? Sort of like a baseball player. Those players make millions while they can because body parts will just wear down or out long before normal retirement age. So maybe that nearly 50% pay increase proposed for the longshoremen is not “greed” so much as protecting a future when they simply can’t work anymore.
It’s greed! Most are lazy and not very intelligent. Ports want to automate and use robots and computers to move containers. Hopefully, the sooner they modernize the better! The ILA is definitely not our friend.
They might just be getting what they can before Chinese robots and AI replace them.
sDee: That’s exactly what’s happening. Port automation is inevitable.
The infrastructure is also in place for driverless trucks to get the containers to mega-distribution centers in the Agenda-2030 corridors. Then Amazon and Walmart take over.
China – direct to the hole in the door of our high density apartment cubes.
Well someone’s been paying attention. How do you suppose the transhumans will fit into this picture? The ones who will “eat zee bugs and LIKE it?”
my son worked on a tug boat for 18 months, started at 40 yrs old. Those ropes they throw around are about 150 lbs. At his age, he lasted as long as he could. a month on board, and a month at home.
Dad was a chief engineer in the sunset of his maritime career…on a Panama Canal Tugboat in the engine room…being on deck is tough…
No, not particularly hard work. Operating a crane. Driving a truck a short distance. Some forklift operating, etc.
Now, before containerized freight, yes it was brutal
work. Freight arrived “break bulk” on pallets . It required muscle. Refer to “On the Waterfront” with Marlon Brando. There is still some of that, like bags of coffee. But ocean cargo is now almost all containerized.
The Union fought containerization in the late 70’s, and there was a huge strike (nationwide?), but in the end the growth in imported goods could no longer be done break bulk. Containers were the only way.
The hourly wage does not tell the whole story. If I recall (pretty sure) workers can earn double or triple time, and if they show up and are not needed (or too drunk to work) they still get paid.
Personally, I think they have valid reasons. They do NOT get paid enough…. in fact I was surprised at their pay. I cannot recall exactly, but the pay scale goes from something like $8.66 to $48 per hr. They get less than west coast longshoremen. Also, their last payraise was on!y $1 pr hr.
Longshoremen at the major ports like New York and Los Angeles make $250,000 a year!
And Nepotism runs deep!!
And they wonder why ports are automating…
When those systems mess up and they always do they are going to pay much more as will we all.
The idea of unions was a great concept during the Industrial Revolution. But now the union strong are purposely being herded into oblivion by corrupt leaders. The New World Order wants robots. Not people. Well, unless they can turn the people into robots too.
I remember sitting in a meeting with one of our large suppliers who was pitching “efficiency” at their warehouses. I mentioned to one of my co-workers that soon the world would be so efficient that there would be no one working to buy those goods.
I do despise the current labor unions who spend more time protecting the lower performing workers who have no desire to increase their productivity at work. The “you owe me” mentality is strong in unions. They should be working with their employers to insure everyone contributes enough to be productive to maintain employment.
My husband said their “average” salary is 300k. So you may be on the low end. From what I understand it is really the ‘automation’ they are trying to fight.
Not much when you consider the COL of those places.
Brash and right on target. Amazing how wisdom comes through experience. He is a fighter and I hope he gets a deal. It does sound like their work is underappreciated by the white color people. I support him. I DO NOT support SEIU. They are terrible in propping up terrible workers.
The guy is a history book who does seem to be concerned about his people. I support anyone who is more focused about the people he serves than anything else. I bet PDJT would get along with this guy. And it sounds that the current admin showed its incompetence. It’ll reflect poorly on them. Only PDJT could negotiate a good deal for everyone. Ready to see the consequences. I hope it crumbles this tower of Babel.
White color people, that made me laugh.
oops. auto spell made you laugh…
we do need a laugh these days
Give me a break.. Have you been on a union worksite where you can’t move a pallet out of your way unless you call a union jerk or touch a piece of wood unless you call a carpenter?
Union non- productivity games is why jobs left the US and afl-cio membership is a fraction of what it was in 1970.
I was Steelworker and Boilermaker and they overplayed their hand. We had good jobs and benefits beyond most people and they just used their power to promote communism and slow production…
The leadership will do whatever benefits the leadership. Union leaders have always been in bed with the globalists, who offshored our jobs intentionally. It’s all part of the package.
Would that we should see more pushback by workers on the cusp of their New/One World reset.
why did shipping costs double? unions.
who created the rust belt? unions.
who sent auto manufacturing to mexicrap? unions.
good job looking out for workers (in other countries)!
Unions are definitely a major factor, but not the only one.
Free trade deals, not appropriately using tariffs, selective enforcement of export controls, strangling regulatory overhead, crippling energy costs.
It all compounds.
Add to your list:
:: Wet-under-the-collar, MBA-flaunting portfolio managers focused exclusively on quarterly earnings
:: Vulture capitalists like Victor Posner, consolidating companies and selling off their assets for short-term gain
:: China, and the Chinese attitude to workers (cogs in the state’s big wheel)
Ronald Reagan would advise them to take the half of a loaf and come back for the rest.
Seems as the unions are putting the current state of the condition of the transportation issues we are facing on the back burner pushing for nest egg retirements to me. I do not recall the financial benefits they enjoy to be representative of the financial state of most Americans. But that’s just my perspective.
The 50% pay increase demand means it is going to last months until workers start losing their homes.
President Trump should tell
The union boss this is going to look bad for them, striking while people still have no fresh water or food. Best to postpone until the situation on the ground get better. It would be a win-win.
My thoughts, too. Have they not seen the hurt and destruction of surrounding people in the recent hurricane’s path? Free flowing of basic goods to these folks is a necessity, as well as workers to get it to them. I would take a deal and say, “We’ll be Back ” and explain they have to stay on the job to support America’s recovery right now. Take the high road….
When truckers wanted a nation wide strike a couple years ago, they came to the conclusion their fellow Americans were having it hard enough.
Truckers would go from covid heros to zeros.
Patriotic bunch those truckers.
6 Years ago today. More leverage for them in an election year?
“While the ILA and USMX statement said that details of the tentative Master Contract agreement were not made available, a separate ILA statement indicated that this six-year contract extension will bring generous pay increases, landmark protections against job-killing fully automated ports, and labor peace and stability through September 30, 2024″

Good find!
That article was written in 2018.
How many Ports are foreign owned ?
I know China has become an owner of several and I’m sure other not so friendly countries own ports too.
Just like many of the toll roads and turnpikes in this country that have been sold to foreigners while we are forced financially to upkeep them and it’s time this stops.
I had no idea this was happening…thank you for the insight.
As much as this strike will negatively impact the population, the longer is goes, the more it helps Trump win the election.
I have mixed emotions associated with different periods of my life..
I was in the Steelworkers at Newport News in the late 70’s. We went out for 12 weeks and got 1$ an hour more, meanwhile I did a voluntary turn in on a new vehicle I couldn’t pay for. Strike fund ton was 60$/week if you stood picket line; I went north and worked some scab jobs until it settled.
A few years later I joined the Boilermakers, never got me anything.
Early 80’s construction went to shit, went to a state prison system. Like Sundance posited, there is no place for government employee unions. Not like a mine owner or factory owner negotiating with his own money, its bureaucrats negotiating with your tax dollars, no skin off their teeth.
Unions blew most of the manufacturing out of the US in the 70’s and 80’s, imho. There was a good reason for them initially but they became greedy, socialistic and in my experience slowed productivity.
This thing can go either way, but the timing is bad and maybe they should take the deal lest they go the way of the other 70% of the afl-cio and disappear. No one is irreplaceable or impervious to the future..
After government caused inflation of prices comes eventual increases in wages, as blue collar workers can’t make ends meet and demand more. And so it goes, and so it goes. As wages catch up to inflation, productivity and automation are useful to keep prices from continuing to rise. Always happens, always a bad deal for the elderly on fixed incomes and the “savers”. Good for the guvmint, as taxes and entitlement payments artificially rise while their leveraged old loan costs remains stable. Inflation is good for the leveraged, and no one is more leveraged than the government.
50% increase in wages? Did I read that correctly?
50% wage increase? Double contribution to employee’s retirement funds? HUH?
My gawd. Now how high will prices rise?
50%????
Probably a rounding error if you were to compensate for these demands by dropping the trade imbalances by a few percentage points per trading partner.
China alone is what, $800 billion?
A few billion here, a few billion there and soon we are talking real money.
I’m a thinkin’ this is going to be much like the last big threat of a strike-what was it? 1 or 2 years ago it was going to just cripple everything.
Of course the folks holding the strings on lunch bucket joe pulled out a win in the 11th hour!
Gird your loins, folks.
There are only two strikes in my lifetime that caused inflation to skyrocket and directly impacted nearly every American consumer. One was the Air Traffic Controllers who refused to negotiate and was forcing America’s airways to go dark. Reagan stepped in and fired the controllers. The second was midway into Jimmy Carter’s terms I think 1977 that also was longshoremen. Like biden, he did nothing and our ports closed. At the time we had dble digit inflation, interest was huge, there was a gas shortage/gas lines/rationing and our grocery store shelves went bare. Democrats have proven over time they have no clue in terms of economic disasters. Hopefully this situation doesn’t go to strike. If it does, Christmas will be bleak…not to mention massive impact on agriculture, shortages that will take us well into next year. Now couple that with all those fall crops that are under water in the SE.
You have to remember, we made a heck of a lot more stuff right here in America in 1977. We now import almost all our hard goods and apparel.
Also, we had a much more polite and civilized society then too. Now…not so much. So if this goes on for an extended period of time…it’s going to be one very interesting holiday season.
Both sides can easily become pawns if the financial powers-that-be decide to set up conditions to sabotage the economy in response to a Trump win–or a Kamala win. The Fed and BIS have their own agendas and timing, “elected leaders” and Congress be damned.
Best to keep scanning the horizon for moves elsewhere that slip under the strike and flood devastation headlines.
FIFTY PERCENT. That’s the disaster wrought on the country by Biden-Harris inflation.
And if you thought inflation was bad, imagine the impacts of a 50% wage increase on shipping costs.
And imagine all the potential for other legs in the supply chain to start demanding similar.
I suspect they’ll go out for a while and then let Joey Biden get on the phone; then, they’ll announce a settlement and Biden-Harris admin will be the heroes, purportedly.
On the other hand, why wouldn’t both sides see Trump’s policies as benefitting them?
Corporations have known about this possibility
for quite awhile.
Large corporations that were smart and had
the funds and storage have stocked their warehouses.
💁 🤷♀️ 💁 Which probably helped Biden economy numbers.

Daggett also demanded an outright ban on automation in ports. I don’t have a problem with their pay demands, but that automation ban demand is absurd. Bill Ackman posted (on X) a video of the automation in a Chinese port that makes clear what will eventually have to happen. The USMX will (or at least should) never concede to that demand.
Seems a bad time to strike. People are hurting and we all know it won’t be the companies who will be feeling the pain. Also, right now our nation is filled with illegals eager to take over jobs.

There’s a time to fall on your sword in solidarity for the common good. The longshoremen think this is the time.
In my humble opinion they should take the offer that’s on the table. Or, they can jack things up for everyone else and lose their high ground.
its not like they are striking for freedom, they have good jobs and are striking for greed while others hurt. Not terribly prescient on their part.
That they can disrupt is not the point; the motivation to disrupt is.
Automation is inevitable
Port of Amsterdam operations are very similar.
Wanna bet the hardware Port of Amsterdam uses was made in China? HA.
I think this is timed to help Trump. My friend stayed with a family friend who was head of the longshormen in her home time before he retired. A bunch of their friends came over and 90% of the longshoremen were Trump supporters. Time to insert suscpicious cat. I would not be surprised if they are getting ripped off and are striking. I wonder if their wages kept up with inflation, I doubt it
Current contract ends Sept 30.
This should be no surprise.

Humanity is at risk at what point does this not make sense? Faster better = zero product to sell. Long run humanity is replaced .. do robots eat out, eat in, socialize, have children, love each other God .. No. More is less. This doesn’t end well. Fabric of Humanity at risk .. When does this not make sense? Is it to late ? Could be the horse left the Barn .. What Horse?
Wow. That was one hell of an interview. Daggett knows what he’s talking about. I remember some of those strikes. I was living in NY at the time and had friends in the ILA. This is going to be interesting for sure.
Cost of living has gone up and wages need to match this. Corporate America is importing millions of workers to keep wage costs down and were at a breaking point.
The flip-side of all that wage suppression is that it is pretty much required in order to keep the financial systems from instantly exploding from the compounding effects of inflation wrought by Federal policy and the central bank. A public-private partnership, used to be people called it fascism.
Globalists have been defrauding all of us for far too long.
Meanwhile, in health care, wages are dropping like a rock.
Perhaps there is less demand for ‘health care’ services because of a variety of factors?
Covid jab pushing, DEI fools, no doc just assistants, rushed 15 minute visits even first time
everything automated, video visits, rule following to a fault, i don’t want another site to visit to get my test results I want my doctor to tell me what they are, what they mean and what he recommends I do about it, but no just send me to get nonsensical unnecessary tests
I am a bit pissed. The phys assist DEI that I went to when my long time much loved primary doc died (due to covid turbo cancer returns) no longer works for the org I have been going to for decades. They suggest a couple of other phys assist. Since the DEI phys that no longer works there couldn’t handle my list of meds (it is long and I am old) I am reluctant to see yet another phys assist. So, I need to fill out a multipage digital input form to go to a new phys in another corp that does not have my medical records. My new puppy does not cut me a break for doctor visits. I have all I can manage filling the holes she digs and preventing her escape and undermining the house with them.
What’s not to like about the man? He has a point. The Corporatocracy that runs this country, that owns the law makers and picks the leaders, has completely subverted the system that was intended of rule of, by, and for the people. Any system on earth is three missed meals away from revolution. A few thousand oligarchs and the vichy regime traitors who fluff them all hanging from lightpoles might be just the thing that is needed. Unless anyone is still delusional that we can vote our way out of serfdom?
NOW: The port strike has begun here in Boston.
Members of the International Longshoremen’s Association are marching to the Conley Terminal to hit the picket line after failed contract negotiations with the US Maritime Alliance. This will impact ports from ME to TX. @NBC10Boston
Here is a statement, handed to me by ILA.
@NBC10Boston
I don’t like him. He’s evil personified.
Evil and arrogant. That’s what I see.
Nah..not me.
He is up front and tells it like it is.
States what he wants for employees.
We are used to seeing slimy double
talking corporate dorks and politicians
in fancy suits and shiny shoes.
Welcome change!!
I cannot speak to the authenticity of the following google:
How much does a Longshoreman make in Illinois? As of Sep 20, 2024, the average hourly pay for a Longshoreman in Illinois is $15.48 an hour. This cannot be accurate…? McDonald’s pays more..

So long as we are not talking about the invasion. The economy. Keep talking about strikes, hurricanes, whatever it takes to distract the democrat voter from reality. Note we are not talking about he/her pronouns, transgender bathrooms, school board meetings, $8/eggs, et al.
I have this strange feeling this is all orchestrated and planned for Kamala to come in and “strike a deal” to make her look competent.
Another reason to bring the jobs back to the USA.
Buy American!
Won’t end well for consumers. Last minute strike during a presidential campaign is basically an extortion tactic and a 50% wage increase certainly doesn’t help bring down inflation. Would have never been necessary under a price deflationary Trump economic plan.
Is this the “October surprise”?
I’m sittin’ on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Ooh, I’m just sittin’ on the dock of the bay
Wastin’ time
Everyone can say whatever they want about unions. Government employees should not be able to unionize.
However corrupt they might be, labor unions were born of a system which horribly abused humans, in the vein of “I owe my soul to the company store”. There is never anyone truly representing the working class, we get only biennial lip service from politicians. Too few know of working conditions in mines, mills, on docks, construction sites and factory floors, and how horrendous they were before unions.
Organized labor is and must remain a fact of life in a capitalist society. And I am a huge fan of capitalism. ===> unions must exist.
This was the inevitable outcome of massive inflation. We have all been here before. Organized labor will not sit still while their purchasing power and household income is being destroyed.
Our host has it correct here. These people are our allies, not our enemies. We are just keyboard warriors. They are in the trenches, fighting for their families. They are fighting for something good, against our common enemy. And the Uniparty is being paid by our enemy to defeat them.
We need to take inspiration from them. Our enemy holds all of the high ground. Defeating them will be difficult. Organized labor should be a bulwark for us, not an enemy.
The great realignment is happening now. The Uniparty’s fake divisions are being dissolved. Don’t let them decide who your enemies/allies are. You decide, and for your own reasons, not their’s.
Inflation will get worse. There will be more of this, and we shouldn’t help the bought-off Uniparty in fighting it.
