On Wednesday, Russia claimed an IL-76 transport aircraft carrying 65 Ukrainian POWs was shot down en route to a POW exchange in the Belgorod region.
Western media, particularly those with a vested anti-Russia narrative, expressed skepticism of the Russian statement, including the claim that Ukraine had shot down the plane. However, the BBC has an outline [SEE HERE] based on a conversation with a Ukrainian intelligence official that seems to directly corroborate the Russian statements.
Oddly, but perhaps not unexpectedly, the BBC article is framed to retain the skepticism; however, if you read the article carefully, what you will notice is the details are generally confirmed.
Yes, there was a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine military that was supposed to take place in Belgorod on Wednesday, at the exact time the plane was shot down. Yes, for some unknown reason the prisoner exchange did not take place as the POWs never arrived. Yes, there was a previous POW exchange that took place in this exact same Belgorod location, and yes, a Russian IL-76 aircraft was previously used to transport the Ukraine POWs.
(Via BBC) – … [Ukraine Intelligence Officer] Andriy Yusov stressed that Russia had provided no proof to back its claims there were. “There is no clear information about prisoners of war. There are only statements by Russia, of a political and propagandist nature,” he said. “Who or what was on board needs to be clarified.”
Mr Yusov, who is the first Ukrainian official interviewed by the BBC since the incident on Wednesday, accused Moscow of “hiding” information, with limited images from the crash site – including of any dead.
Here’s where the article seems to confirm the Russian story:
“Russian air defence was working against them. Belgorod is also potentially within the range of Ukrainian air defence systems.” … “On the prisoner swap, he confirmed an exchange had been planned on Wednesday “around lunchtime”. But it was meant to take place in the Sumy region, west of Belgorod.” … “He said the two sides implemented a ceasefire in Sumy, as agreed. “Unfortunately, the exchange did not happen.” … “On 3 January, during the previous swap, he said Ukraine was informed that Russia would use a plane. On Thursday, Ukraine’s Air Forces chief stressed that the country had the right to defend itself against attack by Russia and would continue to do so.” (link)
If you take out all the narrative engineering from the article, then just take those excerpts from Ukraine intelligence in total, they seem to confirm everything Russia outlined about the transport of 65 Ukrainian POWs to Belgorod.
Why would Russia have to tell Ukraine again how the POWs would arrive, when they already told them the first time – and they were simply repeating the same process.
The plane never arrived, and the 65 POW exchange never happened, because Ukraine shot down the Russian transport plane.
Why didn’t Ukraine want their soldiers back?
So the corrupt Zelinsky USA fraudulent governments would not have to pay BENEFITS to the soldiers or their families (who they can claim were AWOL and not on the plane) and save those future payments for their grift and graft at the death of generations of Ukrainians.
Almost like they are removing a population in a hearty healthy BREAD BASKET area for replacement.
Probably will turnout to be poor communication, which isn’t surprising. I doubt Zelensky, et al, know where all the missile launchers are or who has what. And their commanders who might have been informed were too drunk to relay the message, anyway.
It was speculated in articles over the past month that Zelensky wants Zaluzhnyi gone from military leadership. It wouldn’t be a stretch to conclude it was shot down so that Zaluzhnyi would be blamed, removed, tried, and executed so that Zelensky has no political opposition. Have to say there is a good chance that would work given the rampant evil there.
It’s a mess! The right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing! We need to stop funding what has come to amount to a slaughter of Ukrainian citizens. The war needs to end, before all the men in Ukraine are dead!
I expect the facts will be argued for the next week or so with everyone in Ukraine and Russia pointing fingers at each other. Then an actual fact will appear six months from now, after Ukraine has been blessed with about another 100 billion from Washington DC. The new set of facts will be the actual facts and our government will have already created a story line to distort those real facts. End of story until at least two years from now somebody will blow a hole into the Government story and be accused of “insurrection” or some other mythical crime. Maybe a billion more dollars will be spent by the Government to censor the facts and push them into the background for at least another election cycle, when everyone will again be arguing about how the Government could have interfered enough to fix that election’s outcome. etc. etc. etc………
Just my guess. No supporting factoids as of yet. But the same old story is pretty easy to see by now.
Hot fire, any remains will be badly burnt, condolences to the families. War sucks, zelensky is a dictator-criminal ripoff artist. He gives a damn if his whole army dies and it shows. I hope the ukraine public beats up the conscription officers instead of letting themselves get drafted and sent to the front on 3 days’ ‘training’.
From Ukrainian Pravda today:
“The bodies and remains of 77 fallen Ukrainian defenders were brought back to Ukraine on 26 January. They will be handed over to forensic experts for identification.”
“The fallen defenders were recovered thanks to the cooperation of”… among others mentioned “the State Emergency Service in Sumy Oblast”.
Could be unrelated because seems a little bit too hasty.

I miss Rush.
The low information crowd, makes the evil “media” & it’s devastating results possible.
Who shot down the jetliner aircraft over that region in the past? Was it EVER determined?
It was confirmed to be a Ukrainian missile by UN investigators, and it was promptly not reported by the vast majority of western media, who of course initially blamed Russia.
Doesnt seem like anybody has made this connection, so I’ll give it a shot. Twitter posts about this war indicate that Ukrainians are surrendering in increasing numbers, becauses the elites give them wholly inadequate yraining and support and care little if they live or die. Also, it appears that Ukro commanders shoots enlisted grunts who try to surrender
So, did Ukie elites deliberately kill these POW’s to send a message? You wont get out of doing your “duty” by surrendering. One way or another we’ll get you.
I wouldn’t put it past those psychopaths. The type of person that can kidnap people off the streets on their way to work to feed their families is bad enough. The type that make it up the chain to a position that controls air defense weaponry are probably nightmare fuel.

Putin: Il-76 was downed by US or French air defenses, experts to prove it by next week
“A clear-cut answer to this issue will be voiced in two-three days,” the Russian president noted
SAINT PETERSBURG, January 26. /TASS/. A special expert group will reveal in 2-3 days results of its investigation into the crash Russia’s Il-76 transport military aircraft which was allegedly downed by the Ukrainian military, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday.
“All fragments that could have caused the [fatal] destruction have been recovered from the scene. They point to the fact that the aircraft was shot down by an air-defense rocket,” Putin said.
“This incident should be either attributed to their poor [Air Defense] training or their incompetence of handling such systems,” the Russian president said. “Most likely the strike was delivered by a US system Patriot system but even more likely by a French-made air-defense system.”
“A clear-cut answer to this issue will be voiced in two-three days,” the Russian president added.
A Russian military transport Il-76 plane carrying 74 people, including 65 Ukrainian captives, who were supposed to be exchanged in a prisoner swap, was shot down by Ukrainian troops over Russia’s Belgorod Region bordering Ukraine on January 24.
All those who were aboard died.
The Russian defense ministry described the incident as a terror attack. According to the ministry, Kiev was aware that the plane was carrying prisoners who were to be exchanged at the Kolotilovka checkpoint and the attack on the plane was geared to accuse Russia of killing Ukrainian soldiers.

JAN 26 – Yahoo News – the indenpendent
Russian President Vladimir Putin said a Russian military plane that crashed near the border with Ukraine on Wednesday was shot down by Ukrainian air defences, whether on purpose or by mistake.
[…]Moscow accuses Kyiv of downing the Ilyushin Il-76 plane (….)It has not presented proof.
[…]Kyiv has neither confirmed nor denied that its forces downed the aircraft and said there is no proof of who was on board. It has challenged details of Moscow’s account and called for an international investigation.
[…]Russia has sole access to the crash site and the claims could not be independently verified
[…]Ukraine has rejected a Russian assertion that it was forewarned that a plane carrying Ukrainian POWs would be flying over the Belgorod region at that time.
[…]Ukraine has opened a criminal complaint into the crash, which happened on Wednesday, and the country’s deputy ambassador to the United Nations said it would be the first case of Russia using human shields on aircraft to cover for transportation of weaponry if it was confirmed PoWs were on board.
“Ukraine was not informed about the number of vehicles, roads and means of transportation of the captives. This alone may constitute intentional actions by Russia to endanger the lives and safety of the prisoners.”
[…]“It is clear that the Russians are playing with the lives of Ukrainian prisoners, the feelings of their loved ones and the emotions of our society,” Zelensky said in his evening address.

An interesting historical note about the way “RETURNED and LIBERATED” POW’s on the WWII East Front were treated by their home nations, the USSR and Nazis Germany. [For all purposes, the Ukrainian Government should be considered ruthless Nazis-USSR at heart and in character.]
For starters, the POW’s were suspected turn-coats for having being captured.
The returning POW’s were arrested and abused. Their families were also suspect and abused after their capture.
Many times they were assigned back to the front to a “Special Punishment Battalion”. These Battalions were used in the most dangerous situation situations one can imagine on the battlefield (i.e. lead unit in a frontal assault across a minefield with no engineering support, being sacrificed as rear guards with no support and die in place mission, being expended as diversions….).
These POW’s knew what awaited them and the Ukraine murdering them for a headline and propaganda is just par for the course.
