In essence, the USSC ruled a state cannot enforce a Federal law if the Federal government refuses to enforce that law. That is how dysfunctional the entire political system has become.
The border problem is very quickly becoming a conflict between not only individual states and the Federal government, as here, but directly between individual states themselves (or perhaps more accurately between Red and Blue areas).
Consider what is going to happen if or when the Federal government decides Texas has no right to close the Texas-Mexico border nor the right to bus illegal aliens to Chicago and New York City. In such a situation the Federal government would be using its power to protect the interests of certain states/regions at the expense of other states/regions.
Yes, it already does this… but I am speaking now of direct confrontation with physical force. The US hasn’t seen that sort of confrontation between the states and the Federal Government since the 1950s, but in that instance the state vs. state component was missing.
We are witnessing the re-emergence of sectionalism and a very non-impartial Federal government eager to put its thumb on the scales. That is an even bigger crisis then the already colossal border crisis. It is unlikely to end well if allowed to continue developing as it has.

As you can see there’s a case pending in the court of appeals. The SCOTUS ruling is not a permanent decision. The appeals court decision will be.
That said, it would have been nice if Amy had sided with the other conservative justices. Just like Trump said at the rallies, the conservative justices seem to too often be concerned with doing everything impeccably while the liberal justices do whatever is beneficial for the Democrats. But perhaps the reasoning behind the majority decision is actually sound. It’s a shame we aren’t able to see it.

Retired Magistrate here: I think the Supreme Court is relying on Arizona v. U.S. 567, U.S. 387, 394 (2012) wherein the court stated that it is well settled that the federal government, not state governments, has broad undoubted power over the subject of immigration and status of aliens and that states can’t make their own immigration laws.
I understand the current case before the Supreme Court has to do with border enforcement; however, the federal government is not enforcing laws currently in place so Texas is taking over the enforcement and protection of its border. The question then becomes do states have the power to do what the federal government is unwilling to do. Based on the Arizona case it looks unlikely.
Please understand I could be completely wrong, but I think that is the rationale for the temporary ruling from the Court.

My thought exactly. I recall the bill that the Arizona Senate crafted that basically mirrored federal immigration law and SCOTUS put the kibosh to it. However, another commentor recalls PDJT attempting to enforce federal immigration law on sanctuary cities and was told that local law prevails in that situation. One cannot have it both ways, the courts made hash of this entire question.
Roberts is clearly compromised, and he has way too much influence over Barrett and Kavanaugh. He can always rotate them and get one of them to go along with him. This is why the Missouri v. Biden is clearly dead; Roberts will defer to the deep state “national security” argument and allow the FBI and CIA to coordinate with big tech on censorship and surveillance.
