This is a very big deal, because the reality of the U.S. being targeted changes the political calculation and risk metric. The Biden administration would not want American citizens to think about our own military being involved in an expanded Israel-Hamas war directly, but that’s exactly what is happening. THAT my friends was the motive for being obtuse in the first wave of attacks in October.

Two other commercial ships, the Panamanian-flagged bulk carriers Number 9 and Sophie II, were both struck by missiles. The Number 9 reported some damage but no casualties, and the Sophie II reported no significant damage.

Well, the Ford is in Souda Bay Crete, so not really a target today. Seems to me the drones are intended for targeting, I assume they conduct a search with optical sensor and relay video and GPS coords back to home base. That GPS coord could then used for cueing cruise missile which would need some sort of terminal guidance for its attack tactic (dive from altitude maybe?)
I would think 5″-54 main battery shooting “able-able-common” would be a good exercise against the drones.
Based on work I was doing before retiring …. do not discount Lasers and High Energy Jamming to block signals or fry control circuits as well as sensor electronics that would be far more effective.

This is another case of the US actually funding the people attacking US Forces put in harms way.

This is in preparation for what they plan to do in the near future in the Far East. I also considered it possible that they might actually be there to make an attack on the United States in support of Iran, but at least so far that does not seem to be the case.
