Today, the sketchy Pentagon statements about the USS Carney are starting to make sense. The initial suspicions within the originating statements {GO DEEP} are well founded. Today, the Pentagon is admitting the events in the Red Sea were “much more significant” than originally outlined. Here’s the big picture, and we will go a little deeper.
The USS Carney is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer assigned to USS Ford Carrier Strike Group 12. As part of the October 8th deployment into the eastern Mediterranean, the USS Carney took up a defensive position for the strike group by going through the Suez Canal into the Red Sea. Fortunately, the Carney arrived in the Red Sea, on mission, Wednesday, just hours before four cruise missiles and 15 drones entered the established defensive perimeter airspace.
The Carney’s interceptions, the defensive activity against the missiles and drones, took place over 9 hours on Wed/Thursday. All of the interceptions happened in commercial airspace, meaning the drones and missiles were targeted to fly at altitudes of commercial air travel. Obviously, the destination of the missiles and drones was/is unknown; however, the Pentagon said “potentially” targeted to hit Israel.
Now keep in mind, this report from CNN (think State Dept) is from a U.S. official that is NOT the Pentagon. Meaning this report is political in nature and slanted to provide the State Dept/political Intelligence Community perspective. Again, this is not a military report; this is a report from the U.S. political angle of government.
CNN — A US warship that intercepted drones and missiles near the coast of Yemen on Thursday encountered a larger and more sustained barrage than was previously known, shooting down 4 cruise missiles and 15 drones over a period of 9 hours, according to a US official familiar with the situation.
The USS Carney, an Arleigh-Burke class destroyer that traversed the Suez Canal heading south on Wednesday, intercepted the missiles and drones as they were heading north along the Red Sea. Their trajectory left little doubt that the projectiles were headed for Israel, the official said, a clearer assessment than the Pentagon’s initial take.
A sustained barrage of drones and missiles targeting Israel from far outside the Gaza conflict is one of a series of worrying signs that the war risks escalating beyond the borders of the coastal enclave.
[…] On Thursday, Pentagon press secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said the missiles were fired by Iranian-backed Houthi forces in Yemen and were launched “potentially towards targets in Israel.” At the briefing, Ryder said three land-attack cruise missiles and “several” drones.
Some of the projectiles were traveling at altitudes that made them a potential risk to commercial aviation when they were intercepted, the US official said. The drones and missiles were intercepted with SM-2 surface-to-air missiles launched from the USS Carney.
US interceptions of Houthi launches are exceedingly rare, making the timing of this incident, as tensions rise in Israel, more significant. In October 2016, the USS Mason deployed countermeasures to stop an attempted attack in the Red Sea targeting the Navy destroyer and other ships nearby. In response, the US fired sea-launched cruise missiles at Houthi radar facilities in Yemen. (read more)
We have already addressed the originating problems with the Pentagon report. Just the 1,300-mile flight distance alone is problematic when attaching this origination to the Houthis. Since when did this Yemen rebel group gain missiles and drones that could target at such distances? Something doesn’t add up.
In reality, the original Pentagon statement does make sense. They don’t know where they came from, and they don’t know where they were going. However, they entered a defensive perimeter established by USS Ford, via the battleship Carney, as part of their strike group mission and formation.
With the carrier strike group in place, the proximity and overall direction of the unknown missiles and drones was a threat. So, we shot them down. That is the standard mission priority.
The political message to CNN, not from the Pentagon, is to firm up the most likely originating location as Yemen and establish the most likely destination as Israel.
However, there are multiple alternatives, one of which is alarming and would also explain the intense sensitivity of the Pentagon in using the word “potentially”; the truth is, they really don’t know. Factually, USS Carney arrived literally hours before this took place, a very fortuitous arrival on mission all things considered.
We can well imagine if the Carney was still navigating the Suez Canal at the time the missiles and drones flew overhead. We, or whoever was the target of 4 cruise missiles and 15 drones, lucked out.
Which brings us to the part of “potential” destinations. Considering the motives and intents of the hostile and opposition elements globally and regionally, there’s just as solid an argument to make that the USS Carney did exactly what it was supposed to do, defend the USS Ford strike group. Meaning, the target could have been the U.S. fleet and the USS Ford itself.
Then we look at “potential” origination. Again, the Houthi’s may have received a very recent Iranian missile capable of delivering a payload over this distance. They did not have them before, but they could be newly acquired; so, the origination could be Yemen. However, it is worth remembering that China is the #1 investor in Yemen, and has a geopolitical relationship in Yemen driven in part by a very nearby Chinese navy military base in Djibouti.
In 2017, China established its first overseas naval base in the small East African country of Djibouti. The base, where perhaps 2,000 Chinese troops are stationed only a few miles from the U.S. Navy’s own Djiboutian base, Camp Lemonnier, set off alarm bells in Washington about Africa’s role in China’s growing military profile. (link)
China has been selling weapons to Yemen as part of the geopolitical alignment between Iran, Russia and China. China also supports the current status of peace between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, and has been working diligently to keep all of their interests aligned.
Were the advanced missiles part of the relationship between China and Yemen?… Or were they Iranian? The former seems increasingly likely, the latter not quite as much.
So, with the Pentagon admitting they are not certain, and with the State Dept motive to downplay the significance, let’s put the process together.
China would have a solid motive for supporting Yemen in the actual targeting of the USS Ford. What faster way to bring the U.S into yet another engagement than by targeting a U.S. aircraft carrier strike group. For Yemen and the Muslim Brotherhood, this would be medal of honor level success, exceeding any joyful targeting of Israel.
The U.S., in this scenario the great satan, is pulled into yet another protracted Middle East quagmire along with prior commitments to Ukraine. Now, with both a European and Middle East conflict, the beneficiaries would be Iran, Russia, China, the Muslim Brotherhood, Turkey, Syria and the list goes on from there. This diverts all U.S. resources away from the Pacific Theater and leaves Taiwan as easy pickings. Smiling panda.
Guess who else would benefit.
Last point, notice how in this scenario no one’s fingerprints are actually -directly- on any of this. Plausible deniability is everywhere.
Funny how that happens?…
Wars, rumors of wars…
Seems like I read that somewhere.
He is coming soon, for sure! He will not contend with man forever.
Soon is a relative word.
l
I don’t disagree that He is coming soon, but soon could be today, tomorrow, 10,40, 100 years.
The signs seem to be there, but people have been saying the end is near for a long, long time.
The Word is clear, only the Father knows the when. We are just supposed to be prepared.
FYI, I am definitely not trying to be preachy.
Frankly, I’m not sure I’m prepared.
Semper Fidelis
Agree. What does make a difference however, is that Israel has been a nation only since 1948 and while it has been said for a long, long, time, we are much closer.
Israel has been a reconstituted nation only since 1948.
Israel existed long before the Roman Empire and long before the cult of the moon god.
All we can do is to keep trying to be prepared: physically, mentally and spiritually.
And “living our best lives” while doing so.
The “when” is when the last martyr appears under the altar in heaven (Revelation 6:9-11; Revelation 14:15)
What do you suppose happened in the temple when the angel came out of the temple and told the one like a son of man to reap the earth? Did He know what just happened (Revelation 14:14; Matthew 24:36)?
How many got saved after He reaped the earth (Revelation 14:19-20; Luke 17:27, 29, 30)?
All who suffer God’s wrath immediately after the reaping (the rapture) will suffer the misery of hell for eternity. Think Noah’s day, Lot’s day, Jesus’ day (Day of the Lord). Since God’s wrath doesn’t start until the last martyr appears under the altar in heaven, the great tribulation (and all time preceding) is not God’s wrath. Therefore that proves all believers will enter the great tribulation and be raptured at its end when Jesus comes to cut it short (Matthew 24:22) (while the 70th week continues to completion) and to pour out God’s wrath on all who are Left Behind.
Being prepared: Either you will be an apostate or you will be be cleansed and refined into His bride without spot or wrinkle through the trials of the great tribulation which will produce the perseverance of Jesus by the time He returns. Perseverance (Revelation 3:10) cannot exist without tribulation (Romans 5:3).
Be patient brother it has all been foretold -Example 1

Story of a brother and sister.
By Rhonda Albrecht
July 19, 2021
These dates are also consistent with what Jesus and Paul told us, in 1 Thess 4:13-18 for Paul, and Jesus, in Matthew 24:32-35… the generation that saw Israel become a nation again, which happened in 1948, would be the generation that would see Jesus’ return at the end of the Great Tribulation Age… the Baby Boomer generation, which is from 1946 to 1961. My generation. My brother was born in 1946. He’ll be 75 on September 6th of this year. Another 4 years, and he’ll be 79 years old on Feast of Trumpets. According to Psalm 90:10, the length of a generation is 70-80 years. I’m 64 next month, born in 1957. I’ll be 68 by then. It ALL comes together in the year 2025!
——————-
Jesus said the generation that witnesses the fig tree budding would witness “all these things.” Jesus had described “all these things” throughout the discourse; they are all the things that will occur before He returns. Then He answers the question about the end of the age and says that the fig tree budding would be the starting point of “all these things.” It appears that the context of the fig tree budding is about the life of the generation that saw Israel become a nation again. If this is true, the life of the generation would be 70-80 years. The signs rapidly converging around us show that this length is reasonable. It is also interesting to note that all the prophecies predicting the Jewish exile, and destruction of Jerusalem and the temple, all occurred within the normal lifespan of 70-80 years from the birth of Christ.
A word of caution here. Though, the 70-80 year generation argument is convincing, we should take care not to pinpoint dates. God designed His inspired Word with purposeful patterns and symmetry. Therefore, it would make sense if the Scriptures point to the time of the 2nd Coming. However, we don’t have the luxury of having the exact number of years set out for Christ’s 2nd Coming like His 1st Coming in Daniel 9:24-26.
Example 2
We are allowed to know the conditions for Christ return. Next opportunity will be in 2025 on the Jewish fest of Rosh Hashana. Note: it’s also called a Hidden Day. We must have the Blood Moon and Rosh Hashana together. Rosh Hashana in 2025 occurs in Late September.
Where have you seen a similar video lately – the Blood Moon

Yeshua said He was coming in HIs generation. And did in ad70. You dont believe
what He said?
When Israel voluntarily submits itself to the Covenant with their Monarch again….
When Israel voluntarily rebuilds their King’s Temple….
I will know that the Messiah’s physical return is soon…
Until then, this is just another evil attempt to rule the world….
And I had better continue to be about my King’s business.

Biden needs an exit from the Ukraine debacle which is circling the drain as we speak. The Israeli Conflict gives him both a distraction from Ukraine and a second chance to be a war hero with some kind of win. In a leftist article they discuss that the only focus of the Biden White House now is winning the 2024 Presidential Election. Nothing else matters to them and everything they do is totally aimed at Biden being President for another four years.
They are not planning on Joe bowing out gracefully. Biden is going to keep “rolling the dice” betting with your money until he wins. These people are not going to stop.
I believe that about Biden staying in, never have seen any advantage in switching him out for another D, that would run on “4 more years” of the disasterous, politically toxic Obammy policies.
However, the rediculous budget request shows Joes admin is NOT exiting Ukraine, although having it on page 27 below the fold, sure.
$100 billion is not
Bowing out
Just imagine what even a tenth of that amount could do at our southern border.
This abomination of an administration will go down in history as the most wasteful, deceitful and blood thirsty group of incompetents.
They are not incompetents, they are very good at what they are doing. When they are finished, comrade Biden will be the face on the $1,000,000 bill that you use to buy a loaf of bread.
Perhaps looking ahead and figuring out who will be the new VP would be prudent; or is the ditzy Harris the perfect replacement?
A “falling away” is also in that book I read….and we see it everywhere. Shameless in your face perverts acclaimed as the new standard, and a weak Church Body unwilling and unable to aggressively confront sin- even tacitly approving if it by it’s silence and inaction.
It’s not the “Lost” who fall away, it’s the “Redeemed Ones” who do….
Matt 24:9

Gosh I HATE the chcolate messiah so much for all the evil he has done
You know joe thinks he is a black man but he is just a pudding head.
He will pay when his master Satan is destroyed.
Sundance, please watch this video to see who all has been put in charge of intelligence within the United States of America.
This is very, very troubling. This is from Caroline Glick (very trustworthy) from Israel about what REALLY happened with the Tony Blinken and Joe Biden meetings with Israel and about who they have placed in charge of the US intelligence and how we are funding and training nearly every single Middle East Terror Organization.
We are also funding and training Israeli soldiers and have been for years.
SD posted this video a few days ago. I hope more people watch it.
This is high treason!
Sundance has already put up two recent articles, featuring Glick, so he is very familiar with what she is saying, as are attentive treepers.
That has been posted several days in the presidential thread and otherwise. I hope many have watched it because it is very revealing. It does nothing, however, to instill confidence in the U.S. administration.
You needed MORE proof that this administration is not acting in the best interests of the people of the US?
Well, you had to know what Blinkin was going to tell Israel. A leopard doesn’t change its spots.
Israeli sources to i24NEWS Correspondent @GuyAZ: Israel was informed of the missiles launched by Iranian-backed Houthi militants around noon today, with at least one interception carried out by Saudi Arabia
15 drones were identified to have been launched from Yemen, with some of the interceptions conducted by electronic warfare
Another liquid-propellant missile unveiled by the Houthis was the Toufan, which appears to be a rebranded Iranian Ghadr. The Toufan could have a 1,350–1,950 km range, potentially enough to place Israel within striking distance. In the past the Houthis have made threats against Eilat and Tel Aviv.
https://www.iiss.org/online-analysis/military-balance/2023/10/little-and-large-missile-surprises-in-sanaa-and-tehran/
So, one reading of that COULD be that Saudis took down weopons aimed at Israel,…can you say Abrams Accords and Saudis, along with Al Sisi and Jordan, recognising the “play” and countering it.
PDJT’s moves in the ME may now be paying dividends.
I am sure they are.
0bama follows trouble everywhere.
Mmmmm, no, I think Ozero leads trouble by having his minions setting up the conditions, or quickly seizing opportunities for trouble that present themselves, and then inciting trouble or directly throwing gasoline then lighting it. Ozero knows exactly what he’s doing.
Ozero satans evoy.🦨
Never underestimate Obama’s ability to f**k things up.
You call it trouble, I call it major disaster!
I remember in 2006 sitting outside my golf club, after a round, trying to tell about 15 guys that Scumbama was a communist Muslim traitor. There was this one teacher there with lots of friends who spoke up and said “ I was a conspiracy theorist and that Scumbama would be great for our country. THAT WAS THE END OF THAT.
I often wonder how he and the rest feel now? Would they even admit to voting for Scumbama? I never voted for him either time. Plus I think he cheated in the 2012 election.
I’ve lost plenty of so called friends that way…..and I don’t care. I’m happier really with my like minded family and friend. I recognized Obama’s type when he walked on stage. I had seen them before in college in the 60s. Constantly screaming , tear it down , we will build it back better. Those were their words then!
And they never built or rebuilt anything – definitely not what they destroyed.
“I often wonder how he and the rest feel now?”
I can assure you they still feel the same now as they did in 2006 when you were sitting outside your golf club.
The sway this person has is incomprehensible. Try as I may, I haven’t figured it out.
To understand what we are up against….good readhttps://www.frontpagemag.com/its-islam-stupid/
Obama CREATES trouble everywhere. I guess we’re never going to be rid of him.
Wonder if the Mossad is “interested” in him.
Obama, however, takes his orders from others.
No fingerprints but the stink is there.
yes it does, smells like the CIA with a hint of Gulf of Tonkin
Indeed it does look like the Gulf of Tonkin. Next after creating chaos, it will be too dangerous to hold 2024 elections and Dem/Deep State retain power indefinitely.
“Increasingly people are recognizing that the current “President” of the United States – Joe Biden – is a compromised asset of the CCP.
“His fellow-compromised in Washington, D.C. – including, but not limited to, senior leadership in the Pentagon, CIA, DOJ/FBI – groomed during the Obama administration – will, of course, vehemently deny this.”
…
“At a minimum, watch between (approximately) 17 and 26 minutes! There “The Final War” discusses one of the elements of the CCP strategy to permanently defeat the USA: mire us in 3-4 regional conflicts that (presumable don’t yet) directly involve CCP military forces.”

We know the sandlings are incapable, so that leave the Iranians or the chinese. Little difference since they are all working together.
The only question I have is what the corrupt cabal illegally occupying the WH will do?
The plot thickens.
Those Arleigh Burke Destroyers are quite capable for fleet defense against missiles and drones. The crew probably know more about the origin point of the missiles and drones then we do.
I would expect more incidents in the days ahead. Too many bad actors that have common cause in this to not be wary of a conspiracy.
The 5th Fleet had better set up resupply for the Ford CSG right quick.
5th Fleet does not have operational control of Ford CSG. 6th Fleet does have operational control of Navy assets in Mediterranean.
“Too many bad actors…”
Satellite imagery, AWACS, high resolution radar in Djibouti…
They know exactly the missile and drone launch location(s).
It leaves our own country unguarded as well because our military is everywhere but at home.
That’s the plan. We’ve been sold out.
They been trying to eliminate the 2a. Flooding USA of 5 million freeloaders the last 2.5 years. Overwhelming the medical system and resources. Taxpayers footing their bills while not affording their own. Resident burden has reversed all policies Trump enacted, basically doing everything to make it seem Trump never existed as president and now as a citizen.
The military industrial complex is smiling and counting their billions in revenue.

How convenient…
Good grief… Just like the Gulf of Tonkin Incident.
History may not repeat but it often rhymes.
I wonder which Roman Emperors sold out their countrymen to the extent Josef Stolen has…
Gulf of Tonkin ………………………….. BINGO !
I didn’t have that on my bingo card.
Are you sure it was China, I heard it was Santa Clause doing a practice run giving the new reindeer a try.
I am thinking the US will have no trouble stumbling into another war of its own fabrication in the Middle East without blaming China or Yemen though (Got to have some pretext for the “We were defending ourselves!” argument again I suppose). I am hoping wiser heads prevail though than the bunch of Neocons playing tic-tac-toe on the world map.
WHAT “wiser heads”?
Wiser heads meaning the adults are now in charge. As if.
Iran can send “messages” via the Hotsy-Totsies for all I care. They will go down in ignominious defeat once Jesus Christ is through with them.
The same day US military bases in Iraq were attacked.
If I did not know better I would think it was an organized attack on US assets in the ME.
/s
I remember very well an incident in the Tonkin Gulf. I remember an impassioned speech in the UN with a model vial of anthrax. I also remember the Pentagon claim that they had killed a Taliban leader during the chaotic Afghan withdrawal.
I trust nothing that is said by our government or their controlled propaganda media. NOTHING.
Were there really missiles? Or drones? Were they really launched by the Houthis? Or from Yemen? There is NO proof of anything they are saying. No debris. No video so far. Were they really aimed at Israel or perhaps, at Saudi Arabia with whom the Houthis have, until very recently, been in conflict since 2015? How did they “rule out” Saudi targets?
If there were really missiles and drones, could they have been launched by the US by soldiers from our base and then claiming that it was the Houthis that launched them, tasking the USS Carney to shoot them down?
From Biden’s “budget” requests, it is obvious that nobody in the administration is looking for peace and real diplomacy. Can’t launder money if there isn’t a lot of military spending so it gets lost in representatives’ pockets.
I hear you, belle.
It looks like this tail’s about to wag it’s dog off.
The war and suffering are real, but the players and stories involve much shadow and unreality.
And a layer to the cake is that our nation is now filled with men from those countries. The best way to bring down a nation is from the inside. Correct?
Not just those among the tsunami invading America daily…
Mark Steyn wrote extensively of this 17 years ago in his “unputdownable” (my word) book “America Alone”.
Why, mulled the Islamists, do we have to blow up everything when we can infiltrate every institution of the Infidel? Conquer from within.
And this they have to a great degree done, with the able assistance of the Light Bringer now in his third term and his fellow travellers, many embedded in some high federal government positions and elsewhere in every state.
And the march goes on unimpeded.
Joe Biden was just the man for the job.
Hamas lives in the White House and the halls of Congress.
Beijing condemns “illegal” US sanctions, a day after Washington unveiled new measures targeting individuals and entities, including those based in China and Hong Kong, that allegedly support Iran’s missile and drone programs.
US authorities have unveiled new sanctions on actors in Iran, Hong Kong, China and Venezuela, accusing them of “enabling Iran’s destabilizing ballistic missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) programs.”
Asked to respond to the measures, foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning says China was “always firmly opposed to illegal unilateral sanctions imposed by the US.”
“We will firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies and citizens,” she says.
The US Treasury Department said yesterday that it was sanctioning 11 individuals, eight entities and one vessel.
The people targeted have “materially supported” Iran in the production and proliferation of missiles and drones,” the Treasury added.
“Iran’s reckless choice to continue its proliferation of destructive UAVs and other weapons prolongs numerous conflicts in regions around the world,” said Brian Nelson, Treasury under secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, in a statement.

I miss dead baby boomer & former insurance agent Tom Clancy turned author and his Cold War novels and movies. Sundance will have to suffice until a new millennial author decides to weave gripping novels from WW3 & WW4 happening now.
Our Artificial Intelligence reportedly stopped the presses on Andrew Breitbart, Michael Hastings and Tom Clancy.
Remember that the Anti-Christ will be the one to bring peace between Israel and the Arabs. That is why he will be hailed and elevated to worldwide prominence. The False Prophet, most likely a future Pope, and other religious leaders will promote him on the world stage as an extraordinary man of peace. A global digital currency along with a new hybrid religion will probably already be in place by then. There will be 3.5 years of world peace and prosperity and then all HELL will break loose as the Anti-Christ shows his true despotic colors leading to Armageddon and the eventual return of Jesus Christ.
I think the hybrid religion is the idiots that make up the church of global warming as they worship at the altar of carbon neutrality.
Sal Mercogliano has a video with more information and graphics. The comments under his videos are usually interesting too because there are mariners who add to the conversation.
I’ve subscribed to his channel for a year and recommend it highly. He’s a professor of maritime history and a former merchant mariner.
God help us, what a mess!
Israel can defend itself. Our involvement is unwise.
The tactics borne out of the Ukraine war – to wit, drone warfare – are already being actively used in the conflict by Hamas / Hezbollah. Waiting now for the sea drones which in swarms are very hard to defend…
How much do I hate the terrorists? Allaht.
I still can’t rationalize the Hamas attack. What was the point? What was the goal?
If the Ford was targeted, maybe there is the answer. One scenario here is a successful targeting of a US carrier by weapons supplied from the Russian axis. What might that do to the cohesiveness of US “Allies”? Putin does not need to defeat the US, militarily, he only needs to put the notion of US invincibility in doubt. Just a thought.
One reason for the Hamas attack is to psych the Israelis out, instill “castle fever” — i.e. “You’re never going to get rid of us, Infidel! We’ll do to you what we did to the Crusader States!”
Another reason is to get the Israel army bogged down in another Stalingrad, a pile of rubble the Israeli Air Force has created vis bombing.
And finally, Hamas WANTS Israel to invade them so that the Turks, etc., get involved. The Israelis can maybe muster an army of 500,000; the Turks can whistle up 2 million.
So, seen in this light, the Hamas attack makes perfect sense.
One other troubling aspect, is the flying at commercial aircraft elevations,…potential for mistakenly shooting down an airliner,..just sayin I recall the U.S. shooting down an Iranian airliner it mistook as an attacking plane?
Also would be a propoganda coup for Iran/China,…
With satelite imagery, they SHOULD be able to trace those drones and missilies, back to their points of origination,..and surely the U.S. has satelites as well as AWAX aloft, covering the battlegroup.
Stinkier and stinkier, just like the “apperent intel failure” of the IDF.
I feel a strangers hand, pulling my johnson, and I am neithet aroused or amused, …similar to somebody pissing in my ear, and telling me its raining, but more.
Posted similar, Dutchman.
Fire hose worth of intel gathered reduced to piss in our ear.
The US Govt is playing both sides, and counting, in this war.
Bathhouse Barry finally getting his wartime ménage à trois.
Your discernment is strong, Dutchman, and colorful metaphors appropriate under the circumstances.
I used to think the problem with the world is that we lost our humanity. In the last few weeks I’ve realized the opposite. Human nature is brutal, animalistic, and base.
It’s our godliness we lost.
Not all humans but certainly we must acknowledge the actions of people that have been doing the same things for over 1000 years, we must call it what it is and destroy it once and for all. https://www.frontpagemag.com/its-islam-stupid/
The honest truth, Miya.
Pardon the long response but in earlier comments on this issue, I surmised that the Houthis could have conducted the attack at Iran’s behest given their access to Iranian missile technology. While the Houthis remain a clear suspect, I now perceive Iran to be the main suspect, specifically an Iranian ship-based attack for reasons explained below.
I’m going to post this response in four segments given its length.
1. Djibouti is an unlikely point of attack: To say Djibouti holds tremendous geostrategic importance would be an understatement. Djibouti’s main source of foreign currency earnings is rent earned from foreign military bases. The U.S., China, and multiple European countries have bases there. Turkish and Saudi forces also operate in the area.
China spies on the U.S. base. The U.S. spies on China’s base. And so it goes. No way China launches a large number of missiles and drones from Djibouti without getting caught. No. Way.
So they take a little boat trip and launch them from Yemen.
Or teach the Houti and are back from the trip long before launch.
Gaining knowledge about Carrier defenses is very important for taking Taiwan. But stretching it out over 15 hours does not test what it takes to overwhelm those defenses.
CCP curiously flew a giant airship over the North American continent, have set up a base in Cuba and conducted military training exercises in Canada.
Seems like a lot of LIHOP happening.
JAOC/CAOC
TBMCS
Care to elaborate on these systems?
Nope!
Well…..the air warfare commander (JFACC) uses the CAOC/JAOC/AOC (depends upon who is partnered in any given scenario) for planning and operations. It’s the daddy rabbit for combined/allied/joint, etc., regional air ops. Navy is not in this alone.
TBMCS is an interesting concept/system. Wikipedia has some info on it.
2. China is an unlikely culprit: For China to attempt such a brazen attack would be to risk a major conflict with the United States, and for what? To exploit the opportunity to pin down two U.S. aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean Sea?
Those carriers are already pinned for an indeterminate amount of time – likely to be lengthy – given that most scenarios already point to a lengthy Israeli military campaign in Gaza lasting several months if not the better part of a year.
China did have some commercial interests in Yemen that were disrupted to an extent by the Saudi and UAE military intervention in Yemen starting in March 2015. According to my quick reading of multiple sources, China was importing mainly oil and commodities from Yemen prior to then.
Given the expansion of China’s blue water navy in tandem with its rising interest in secure access to Middle East energy and commerce, it is inevitable that China’s interest in Yemen would endure, especially given its location near the strategic chokepoint – the Bab el-Mandeb – that forms the southern entrance to the Red Sea. (The Houthis do not control the Yemeni side of this chokepoint.)
More recently, in May 2023, China signed an oil exploration deal with the Houthis, signaling the resumption of its commercial interest in Yemen. This deal was finalized despite the absence of a peace agreement between the Houthis and the Saudi-backed and internationally recognized central government.
China is likely looking to build on its March 2023 Saudi-Iran rapprochement deal by brokering a peace deal to the Yemen conflict. (Saudi Arabia backs the central government. Iran backs the Houthis.)
Why would China undertake such a super risky course of action as attacking U.S. Navy ships in the Mediterranean? If caught, the blowback is potentially enormous, including the disruption of its relations with multiple regional countries, notably Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and the risk that Washington could severely disrupt China’s economy by throttling its access to the U.S. market.
The Chinese are smart operators, patient, and flexible, willing to go with the flow of events until things break in their favor. Such an attack is simply out of character for Beijing.
3. Iran as the Primary Suspect: Attacking the USS Ford Carrier Strike Group with cruise and drone missiles – in commercial airspace over the Red Sea where they were spotted by the Carney one day after it transited the Suez Canal – carries a high risk of getting caught, especially if the point of launch is land-based.
Forensically speaking, the U.S military is going to look at every ISR asset it has to determine the point of origin and ultimate target. Egypt and Saudi Arabia also have strong motivation to identify the culprit given their dependence on the Red Sea transit. The need for the U.S., Egypt, and Saudi Arabia to cooperate on this matter is both obvious and urgent.
If Yemen and the Houthis are ruled out as the launch point, then the next most likely launch point shifts to sea-based possibilities, which pushes Iran to the top of the list of suspects.
In this regard, the Iranians have an obvious motivation: To deter the United States from joining the conflict, that is, from attacking Hezbollah or Iran itself. Moreover, the Red Sea missile and drone launches coincided with reports of minor drone and rocket attacks against multiple U.S. bases in Syria and Iraq.
The interesting thing is that no one has officially claimed responsibility, not the Houthis and not the obscure militias that have taken credit for past attacks against U.S. bases in Syria and Iraq. This indicates that Iran wants to get the message across without giving obvious motivation, especially to the U.S. Congress, to hit Iran back.
The Iranians also have the capability to launch drones and missiles in the Red Sea: The Iranians do not have a base in Djibouti, but in recent years, they have maintained a floating base off the coast of Eritrea, the Saviz, which it used to support its involvement in the Yemen conflict. Israel and Iran have been fighting an undeclared naval war in recent years, and Israel attacked and damaged in April 2021.
Since then, the Iranians have added several new so-called floating bases to their naval forces. These are commercial ships that have been converted into floating launch pads for missiles, drones, and commandos.
In May, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant expressed public concern about them: https://www.usnews.com/news/world/articles/2023-05-22/israel-accuses-iran-of-using-civilian-ships-as-floating-terror-bases
4. Getting to the Bottom of It: Attacking Israel or the USS Ford Carrier Strike Group with cruise and drone missiles – via commercial airspace over the Red Sea – carries a high risk of getting caught. Which may be what the Iranians wanted, to demonstrate they can hit Israel or U.S. Navy vessels, thereby sending a simple message of deterrence.
My guess is that Eilat was the ultimate destination and that the Iranians waited for the USS Carney to enter the Red Sea before launching. (Reports say that the attack occurred one day after the USS Carney transited the Suez Canal.)
More to the point, in addition to overhead and ship-based ISR capabilities, the U.S. 5th Fleet operates an array unmanned sea vessels (USVs), in cooperation with Israel and Jordan, to monitor vessel traffic in the Red Sea. These USVs have cameras and various sensors onboard and patrol defined box-like areas in an overlapping way.
The Iranians actually tried to steal two from the Red Sea in September 2022, but the U.S. Navy compelled them to release it: https://news.usni.org/2022/09/02/iran-temporarily-captures-two-u-s-saildrones-in-red-sea
They also tried the same stunt in the Persian Gulf in late August 2022: https://news.usni.org/2022/08/30/video-navy-blocks-iranian-attempt-to-steal-u-s-surface-drone-in-persian-gulf
Forensically speaking, the U.S military is going to look at every ISR asset it has to determine the point of origin. And both Egypt and Saudi Arabia want to identify the culprit given their dependence on the Red Sea transit. The need for the three to cooperate in resolving this issue is urgent.
The key question is whether the U.S. military is going to make any announcements. My guess is not if they can help it. NAVCENT has a long history of rarely announcing Iranian naval provocations in order to tamp down tensions. The Biden Administration, which has signaled it does not want war with Iran, will also likely try to delay for as long as possible any answers to the question of who did it.
Wasn’t revealed this week by Israel that the USA has transferred several MOAB bunker busters? The kind of wellness needed to penetrate deep into the earth where the Iranians have buried their nuclear weapons production facilities? Might the alleged enemy missile/drone attack be in response to the MOAB?
In a deterrent sense, yes, Iran is concerned to prevent U.S. and/or Israeli military action against it and especially against its deep underground nuclear facilities. But I think we are talking about the transfer of the smaller the GBU-28, 5,000-lb bunker buster, not the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) bomb. The MOAB is the largest non-nuclear bomb in the U.S. arsenal, and its use in Gaza would be ill-advised from a humanitarian perspective.
Forgive my previous word salad. However, I came across this article, but I thought it was considerably more recent than May:
https://www.timesofisrael.com/amid-iran-tensions-us-releases-photos-of-bomb-able-destroy-underground-facilities/
The smaller GBU-28 would be useful in taking out deeply buried Hamas bunkers with minimal collateral damage.
Excellent analysis
Pedro, great analysis. It would definitely make sense for the Feet to deploy a AB class warship to the Red Sea because that is the direction from which any serious threat to the fleet would come from. Granted transiting the canal posses certain risks I am sure there was American air assets on alert and the Egyptians have a strong interest in insuring nothing happened on the transit. Once in the Red Sea the USS Carney can maneuver and is more than capable of defending itself. So after coordinating with the Egyptians I am sure the Navy thought the risk of transiting the Canal was worth taking in order to get on station as soon as possible. I don’t think we have been given the whole story on this because to do so would compromise to many intel sources and methods. Obviously something happen the military dealt with and did not what much if anything to get out about. My guess would have been the cruise missiles and drones were probably ship launched from a modified civilian cargo ship (similar to the German commerce raiders of WWII) in the upper Red Sea from Iran and the target was the Israeli military build up around Northern Gaza and later the USS Carney itself after it responded to the first wave of cruise missiles. In order for the Iranians to make their getaway they would have tried to attack the Carney. This attack was most likely unsuccessful. Neither side is going to admit the sea battle took place.
There is another factor here that most Americans’ who haven’t been in the Middle East don’t take into account which is the real wild card in the deck. The Saudis are not afraid of an attack on Saudi Arabia from the Israelis, what they fear is an attack from Iran, especially if they get nuclear weapons. The Mullahs of Iran are Shiites and the Saudis are Sunni. The Saudi’s have control of Mecca and Medina, two of the three Muslim holy sites, the third being the Dome of the Rock Mosque in Jerusalem. The Saudi military though well equipped and trained does not have the ability to fight a sustained ground war against the Iranians, especially if Riyad was taken out by a Nuclear strike. The Mullahs of Iran, if they could control the three Holy sites, would have control of the Muslim world. That is Iran’s ultimate goal, which will drive them to take extreme measures if they believe they can get away with it. When Trump got an accord between Israel, Jordan, Saudi and the Emirates he was formalizing an unofficial consensus that has been around for a few years now.
I think you are correct that there is more, far more, to this engagement than has been revealed to the public.
The U.S. 5th Fleet has long been concerned about the extension of Iranian naval power, limited as it is, into the Red Sea. So it’s not a surprise that the U.S. Navy would take the precautionary measure of posting the USS Carney in the northern Red Sea. It’s almost like the Navy saw the attack coming before it was even launched.
As for Iranian nuclear weapons, I’ve seen very little in open source material indicating that Iran has nuclear weapons. There is some speculation that it may have acquired nuclear warheads along with Kh-55 cruise missiles from Ukraine after the end of the Cold War. However, this has never been publicly verified by any governmental authority.
That said, Iran could cross the nuclear threshold in about two weeks. This is the official view of the U.S. intelligence community, and several Biden Administration have asserted the two-week threshold in testimony before Congress. However, the intelligence community also continues to assess that Iran is not currently undertaking the key nuclear weapons-development activities necessary to manufacture a testable nuclear device. Mating a warhead to a missile would be another technical challenge along the way.
This crisis could change the calculus of Iran’s leaders in favor of crossing the nuclear threshold, especially if the IDF systematically crunches Hamas and Iran’s response remains limited and therefore ineffective out of fear of major retaliation by the United States and Israel.
However, Iranian leaders are supremely cautious and patient. They would be likely to proceed only if they were very confident they would not be detected. That’s a big if given the fact that Iran’s secret facilities have been ratted out one by one over the last 20 years. Given the large amount of U.S. air power at sea in the region, as well as Israel’s F-35 squadrons, Iran’s leaders are likely to be very cautious at this time.
This outlook assumes that inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) would detect the enrichment of uranium to weapons-grade levels in time for the U.S. to respond. It also assumes that Iran has not established a secret facility that has already done so.
As for Iran nuking Riyadh, I doubt Tehran would ever do such a thing provoked by little more than the fact that Saudi Arabia is a predominantly Sunni country governed by a Sunni monarchy. A nuclear-capable Iran would likely pressure Saudi Arabia into following Tehran’s line on oil policy and on co-governance of Mecca and Medina, to include a share of annual pilgrimage revenues.
As for Iran’s conventional military capabilities, it certainly has them, but it has not really used them much, if at all, since the end of the Iran-Iraq war in 1988. Any overland invasion of Saudi Arabia would have to hook around Kuwait and go through southern Iraq before it could enter Saudi Arabia. In so doing, it would expose its flank to a large and menacing U.S. formation based in Kuwait backed by attack helicopters and combat aircraft.
Iranian leaders have instead opted for the development of asymmetrical capabilities and proxy forces that can command the respect of opponents while also enhancing ability to inflict pain beneath the threshold of plausible deniability.
Sometimes, however, Iran feels compelled to pop up over that threshold and conduct direct attacks, most famously in retaliation for President Trump’s bold decision to assassinate IRGC-Quds Brigade commander Qassem Soleimani and his Iraqi lieutenant in January 2020. Suffice it to say that Trump neutralized a supremely capable and hard-to-replace commander, and Iran needed to demonstrate the accuracy of its ballistic missiles by attacking two U.S. bases in Iraq in retaliation.
Iranian leaders will also feel free to squeeze Israel harder through proxy force attacks, confident that Iran could endure the loss of several cities in extremis while Israel is a small state that could not survive one or two nuclear blasts. This is where the U.S. provision of extended nuclear deterrence to Israel would likely come into play.
We are fated to live in interesting times.
I fully agree with your last statement.
The “rumor” I had heard was that Iran had “bought” nuclear technology from Pakistan and was developing the facilities to build this class of weapons. Supposedly the “rumor” was that Saudi had made a deal with Israel in case the Iranians got close to building nukes. That’s about as far as I want to go about that “rumor”.
The traditional invasion route to invade Saudi is thru Kuwait and the Undefined border between Kuwait and Saudi. Once you get past this area the bulk of developed Saudi is wide open. Saddam got to this point in the first Gulf war and stopped. Now there is an American military presence in Kuwait that wasn’t before the first Gulf war. Still even so the Saudis’ consider this area critical for their defense.
You give the Leaders of Iran more credit for being rational and sane than I do. Hitler was very cautious in his plans for expansion in the 30’s but quickly became more aggressive when he got no resistance to his early invasions. The lust to control the Muslim world and dictate to the rest of the world is very seductive to the religious fanatics that control Iran and right now the Iranian military is able to moderate their ambitions, but for how long? Perhaps the USS Carney put a shot across their bows? I enjoyed the discussion.
a few notes. strike carrier groups, specifically arleigh class force protection vessels and the carrier itself do not operate without several layers of networks of surveillance assets…Namely, airborne surveillance as well as DEDICATED Satellite assets. Consider the area of responsibility to be about an area of 2,000 nm in diameter circle where the carrrier is generally located at the center of that circle. That entire area is under direct observation at all altitudes and also to a degree under the sea.. This extends to both water and land areas, up to low earth altitudes. That entire column is sensored and observed. These vessels operate in coordination with many other types of networked surveillance assets. And yes, there are human operators who collect in real time and analyse this area of operation.
the point ? It is most unlikely that the location of launch of these missiles and drones is unknown. Precision location perhaps unknown, but general area of location would be known to a high degree of certainty. For purposes of military compartmentalization, it would not be expected to reveal the locations as this would give up operational capabilities and would also supply the enemy with known knowns, which you never do. It is best to play “dumb” in the press and invite the enemy to remain comfortable they are operating without detection. Then comes the boom. (which may have already happened at the time of this post…which is highly likely)
God Bless America
Looks like the USS Carney was operating at the southern end of that perimeter, extending a bit further, perhaps in anticipation of what just happened. At least everybody now knows the U.S. Navy came ready to fight and that our stuff works as advertised.
regitiger: The press has no problem “playing dumb.” They do it all by themselves. 😎
The US Navy released photos of the interception of the missiles launched by the Houthis in Yemen towards Israel on Thursday. The interception was carried out by the warship USS Carney

In a recent revelation, the extent of the attack against the USS Carney in the northern Red Sea last Thursday has been disclosed to be larger than previously reported.
According to a CNN report today (Saturday), the American warship intercepted a total of four cruise missiles and fifteen unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over a period of nine hours.
The Pentagon has clarified that the attack was not specifically targeted at the USS Carney but was fired northward along the Red Sea, possibly towards Israel.

“shooting down 4 cruise missiles and 15 drones”
“Some of the projectiles were traveling at altitudes that made them a potential risk to commercial aviation when they were intercepted”
I take this to mean 25K-30K feet.
Uh… Isn’t the point of cruise missiles and drones to work at LOW altitudes. There’s a fuel/distance issue here as well as lift.
I’m not buying 1/10th grain of this story. Period.
Unless, the point was to program a scenario that supported the escalation narrative…
Have “on station” (in the nick of time) just the type of asset required to destroy or compartmentalize any possible evidence that might implicate anyone in particular…
And have nothing “actually”blown to bits.
Obombie, Reptillary and CIA Operation Zero Footprint armed arab spring overthrows in Tunisia, YEMEN, Egypt, Libya and Syria. Now they want to do the WMD trick on Iran and China.
Oceania has always/never been at war with Eurasia/Eastasia
Yeah, it’s Iran, assuming it’s not another Gulf of Tonkin lie, and we all know they are capable and willing to do that.
Iran made threats, threatened to strike, and now we have this (vague) report. That knits together. A strike would be Iran’s, if it happened.
Russia and China direct involvement would be a very low probability. They likely even knew of it or suspected, much as the US clearly knew of the threats and capabilities when they deployed to the Red Sea. China doesn’t do this, friends. I highly doubt they’d even strike Taiwan, let alone involve in another strange Mideast scorpion battle. Like Russia, they want to watch the US destroy itself, since that’s what we seem intent on doing.
Israel bombed Syria immediately, which was wrong. Russia wouldn’t bomb back, but Iran would. Let’s see what happens, and frankly we still don’t know what happened yet. They lie.
Nothing from DoD?
Without going into details, the Arleigh Burke class sports an Aegis radar system. There is plenty of information that has been collected.
The supposition already exists (implicitly in the assessment) that the launch points were land based.
At this point in the evolution of events – no other assets in the Gulf of Aden, Indian Ocean, North Arabian Sea monitoring events? No land based assets monitoring? No satellite coverage? No other systems?
Missiles and drones don’t fly the same profiles.
No electronic signatures detected?
Another intelligence failure? Doubtful.
Common sense suggests that if enough missiles are fired in rapid salvos (plural) at any target, defensive systems are overwhelmed and run out of ammo/missile countermeasures.
That would seem to be true for naval targets too.
Once the defensive systems are exhausted, the ships are sitting ducks for more missile salvos. So much for the vaunted carrier groups.
A rational observer might wonder if this is all a setup to sink the US carrier groups. Among other things.
And: If the WH is corrupted by China (= BRICS+) bribes, are they actually helping to coordinate it?
“Plausible deniability is everywhere.”
Never has a truer statement been made. This alone explains the “Silos” practice in every aspect of all Governments and bureaucratic organizations. Also known, to some extent, as “pretending”.
Every event in the not so recent past, from the JFK assassination, through many elections, WMD in Iraq, Nordstream, to random missile launches from Yemen (to name a few), is clouded in “Plausible deniability.” If you go against the official plausible explanation, you are branded as a “conspiracy theorist” and castigated to a second or third tier citizen, and viciously attacked (AKA – Trump).
The good news is that the veil of Plausible deniability (or “silos”) is beginning to crack. The research that Sundance is bringing to the mainstream is creating an awareness that can not be ignored. For that, I applaud you!
In a semi-related topic to my diatribe (not the article, sorry) when I was growing up in NY back in the 80’s, my Mother always had “Imus in the Morning” on WABC blasting on the AM radio. I remember a parody song that was created called “Don’t you ‘dis the Donald.” If I remember correctly, it was describing how if you attacked Trump, he would hit back twice as hard. It was very funny, and explained a lot about his persona (even back then), not to mention catchy. The weird thing is, I can not find that song anywhere on the internet, even in the Imus archives. I would love to hear it again.
Scary times…
Has the thought occurred that the Carney was the target? Front peremiter defense compromised.
Or, the Suez Canal? Supply lines for Europe on Asian imports impeded; US Persian Gulf and Indian Fleets cut off from resupply without having to go around the Cape, another strategically difficult area to defend oneself while going around, not to mention time and distance to traverse.
Once again, great analysis we would not otherwise have visibility on. Thank you, Sundance.
I dunno, maybe TPTB are beginning to burn it to the ground, knowing that PDJT can/will actually win? If he is gonna win, why not make his (our) life miserable ?
I know it is early, but I must adorn my tinfoil helmet to think this out.
In situations like what happened with the USS Carney, the story gets tangled up with guesswork and late or twisted release of key details. Specifically, which country benefits and why.
Perhaps we should step away from nation state benefits and look even more granular. This could be planned by those who gain from keeping global tensions alive. By taking charge of the story, these groups can guide what people think and, in turn, what actions politicians take to suit their needs.
The guessing games about which countries are involved, who were the targets, and where the threats came from in the USS Carney situation, show a bigger picture. When looked at closely, it seems like a central to player like the arms industry, with its money and influence, could quietly keeping the drama going. This not only keeps the cash rolling in for the arms industry but also hides who the real players are behind such incidents, diverting the world’s attention elsewhere.
Consider the structural setup of cross ownership of military arms manufacturing and controlled media outlets and various gate keeps by the same players allows for keeping the global tension cooking, making sure there’s always a market for military gear.
At the same time, it moves the pieces on the world stage to benefit those working behind the scenes, away from the spotlight.
And now it is “Time to make the donuts!”
Israel has reasons of its own to avoid a ground invasion-the potential for high casualties. There are few better fortifications than rubble. Think Stalingrad or Monte Casino. I have no doubt they could grind through the place but at what cost. Israel is traditionally casualty adverse. In a similar situation, they did not go into Beirut. Best plan is to put the place under siege until they surrender, hopefully after the civilians take care of the Hamas problem. But they may not have time for this since the “humanitarian” aid people are already in full cry.
“hopefully after the civilians take care of the Hamas problem” – Richard
.
Our media and politicians like to say that Hamas does not represent the people of Gaza. But the truth is they literally do.
Hamas are the elected representatives of Gaza having received 80% of the vote. Later polling confirms continued strong support for Jihad with 90% supporting targeting and killing civilians in Israel. The civilians in Gaza will not overthrow Hamas, they support Hamas.
————————–
I agree with your comment on a siege strategy. Israel’ ability to lay seige to the underground network of tunnels where 40,000 Hamas may be hiding may be a strategy that is being interferred with by Biden’s insistence for humanitarian aid to be provided. Most of the aid if not all will end up under Hamas control and would undercut the intent of any siege of the tunnel network.
I generally agree with your contention that the people of GAZA support Hamas….when Hamas humiliates Israel or America. Their hatred of both is real.
However, I trust that any polling of them is meaningless. What would someone living in GAZA say to a pollster? “I don’t support Hamas?” Yeah, right. Off with their head.
As to trusting the actual vote? I don’t know how the mechanics of their voting but why would I trust it more than I trust US voting?
I don’t trust either.
It’s rather ludicrous to offer the “polling data” and percentages of this and that regarding GAZA.
Note that the USS Carney now has 19 fewer surface-to-air missiles until it is resupplied. Slowly Biden’s handlers are draining our weapon stockpile as he has the Petroleum Reserve.
That’s OK. He’s asked for at least another $$$100+ BILLION$$$ to sink into his war holes. Some of that will go to war machine/product manufacturers here. That will falsely raise his GDP since he has no more of our already taxpayer paid for strategic reserves to sell to artificially inflate it.
He’s using borrowed $$$ to inflate his #s.
Just like he uses illegal aliens to inflate our housing and food and insurance and everything else under the sun, not to mention causing all kinds of shortages along the way. Example: Where do you think all of the baby formula went?
“Factually, USS Carney arrived literally hours before this took place, a very fortuitous arrival on mission all things considered.” – Sundance
The only fingerprints I see in this are from the hand of God, “very fortuitous” aka Divine Providence! JMO
Thanks bama. Thanks joe. But I’m sure they’re going to try and blame this on donald Trump somehow.
Our tracking devices should be able to identify the launch points of origin as well as reverse azimuth calculations for these missiles. So where is the debrief?
Josh Philips, Crossroads/The Epoch Times, called it a CCH strategy on day 1. They want us in 4 wars at the same time. Although I don’t think it will take that much t kneecap us.
Something I heard on the War Room yesterday is still rolling around in my head. They said private and other planes are flying people in and out of the Israeli/Gaza war zone to remove people non-stop. How does that happen with all of the bombing going on around them? It just seems off.
It happens because the Israelis decide to avoid hitting certain airfields to allow expats, international aid workers, diplomats, etc to get out and intel assets to get in. I sure they monitor these sites to be sure no Hamas leadership gets out through them. If they do start trying to get out they will close the airfield and start bombing it. so it pays the international aid societies and non Hamas Gaza people to keep Hamas out. The border with Egypt stays shut because the Egyptians, like every other Arab country does not want 2.5 million Palestinians in their country causing problems. Palestinians are the pririah of the Middle East.
