The Big Ugly battle over control of the Republican Party in Congress was always going to be big and ugly. We are witnessing the professional Republican apparatus fight hard to retain the UniParty business model that affords them all the affluence and indulgence they are accustomed to.
By now we well understand the nature of the DC political system as a business model. Factually, that’s why congressional candidates spend millions to take a job earning a few hundred thousand. The business of DC political life is filled with background payments to politicians, family and friends. The business of DC politics provides a life of affluence that is disconnected from most understanding.
Jim Jordan lost his third effort to secure the House Speaker role in a floor vote earlier today. Following the floor vote, the Republican Caucus held a closed-door meeting and another secret ballot to determine if Jordan should continue. When they didn’t have to put their names in front of the public for scrutiny, 122 professional members of the Republican Party voted against Jordan, with only 86 votes in support of Jordan continuing. Jim Jordan from Ohio is done.
Within the voting and the turmoil, we see the axiom bell ring true. Democrats want power, Republicans want money. Democrats use money to get power, Republicans use power to get money. Democrat donors support ideology. Republican politicians chase donor money. This is the essential difference in the two wings of the UniParty apparatus.
♦ What becomes visible…. Threaten the power of Democrats, and you receive the weaponization of government. Threaten the money of Republicans, and you get this Big Ugly outcome. That’s what we are witnessing.
On the positive side, with each passing example more American voters are starting to understand the nature of the UniParty apparatus. Within this painful understanding you find the reason why support for Donald J. Trump grows. Trump threatens the Democrat power structure; so, they weaponize the full weight of government against him (Main Justice, FBI, IC, FISA, the works). However, Trump also threatens the Republican structure of affluence; so, we see them step aside and willfully watch the weaponization of government against their common enemy. That’s also what we are witnessing.
WASHINGTON DC – In a shocking turn, Jim Jordan on Friday lost an internal GOP vote that was intended to show confidence in him remaining as his party’s speaker designee.
The Ohio Republican is now no longer his party’s pick to lead the House, a demise sealed by a GOP secret ballot just after his third failed floor vote as a speaker hopeful.
It was an unexpectedly fast end to the Ohio conservative’s candidacy to lead the chaos-ridden Republican conference — and a sign that the flailing party is fed up on its 17th day without a speaker. Lawmakers now plan to leave Washington for the weekend as the next round of ambitious Republicans decide whether to mount their own speaker bids.
But most Republicans acknowledge that even with new faces to consider, they still have no clear path to uniting their splintered conference. They have already rejected two speaker candidates — Jordan and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise — as well as former Speaker Kevin McCarthy during this month alone.
McCarthy gave voice to a sentiment that’s growing within the GOP: The party’s inability to run the half of Congress that it narrowly won doesn’t bode well for its broader future.
“I’m concerned about where we go from here,” said McCarthy, who had been backing Jordan. “It’s astonishing to me, and we are in a very bad position as a party.”
Jordan’s loss of the speaker nod from his party came as something of a surprise, since he had sought the internal vote with allies preparing to cite it as a show of continued support for his candidacy. Instead, the secret ballot revealed that while Jordan’s public opposition never topped 25 votes, scores more House Republicans wanted to see him out of the race.
[…] In all, 122 Republicans voted to boot Jordan as their party’s nominee, while 86 said he should remain their choice, according to two people familiar with the private discussions. Five members voted present. (read more)
Wall Street, the multinational corporations, the billionaire donors, the people who control the ‘illusion of choice’ mechanisms within the Republican Party apparatus, are all smiling. Meanwhile, Main Street USA is once again furious. But remember, the Wall Street group just doesn’t care. As long as they retain full control over the puppets in DC, including at least 122 Republicans in the House, the multinationals are happy.
The Big Ugly battle continues.
It’s a BIG CLUB, and we ain’t in it…. YET!

Even AOC dropped her progressive friends when she got to DC and witnessed the river of money she would miss out on by being rebellious. Politicians don’t change DC; DC changes them.
Well AOC isn’t a committed socialist. She’s just a stupid, idiotic bartender. Of course she of all people could be bought off.
It’s going to get bigger & uglier in the coming weeks. Nobody can get to 217 so the republicant’s cannot advance any spending bills, supplemental aid, CRs or even their beloved omnibus without putting their cards on Hakeem’s table.
Can’t wait to see the cowards stand in the HoR & cast their votes for that…
No more boondoggle spending bills? Sounds good to me…
Exactly. Wait them out.
Yeah, I saw that as one of the pluses.
Makes them even easier targets to get rid of. It will come to that. He will close in on 217, he was 7 votes short, last round.
the republicant’s cannot advance any spending bills, supplemental aid, CRs or even their beloved omnibus ..”
Good. Shut down this lawless government.
As we speak, Biden and the Anointed Ghost of The One fly around the world, stirring the pudding, hiring and funding enemies for America, and inciting world war. Back home, the UniParty, clutching its investment portfolios tightly, dances on the nation’s grave.
He can’t spend A dime w/o Congress.
Hopefully the low info are asking themselves why is there such a variance between the public and the secret ballot?
And what is it about Jordan that so many secret squirrel voters don’t like?
Feels like some secret squirrels will get dragged into the sunlight.
I’m liking all this hullabaloo. More self-revealing is happening.
Enough to offer Indies/undecides a clear choice next year- The conservatives in the pub party need to desert and form Tea Party #2. That should ruin the pub party. But that would split the party? How much worse can it get?
After what they did to him, if Jordan was really America first and had the balls, he would nominate Trump and demand to let us see that Vote!!
It’s all a magic show. Weedle Jimmy Jordan is part of the act.
In huh. He’s McCarthy with scratchy underwear.
Secession looking better every day eh?
The 86 decent people who voted for Jordan should publicly announce how they voted.
There is NO REASON for GOP house members to have any secrecy over an internal vote for a Speaker nominee. Who can they justify keeping the secret from? They are scum.
Roll Call!
OK now. That sounds like a plausible idea!
If there is no Legal way to bring the 122 out in the open, I’d totally get behind having the 86 Publicly state their votes!
That can’t be against the rules, right?
They could just say, right away, they support him. When we get to 86 we stop.
I also wondered about some from the 86 stepping forward. And…who decides when a vote is going to be secret, in a closed session? Or how is that decided, is there a rule?
Then again, anyone stepping forward might risk losing their committee seats, if they have one.
It would certainly be better if some pro-Jordan votes were to step forward, that it be more rather than less, as there would be some strength in numbers.
More questions…
This is just another example in a long line of actions and in-actions by the RINOs in DC that tells me it’s time for a real change.
It is time for all these folks to go. I mean ALL OF THEM, the good, the bad and the ugly. Vote them all out office and let’s just start over. DO NOT SUPPORT any house incumbent in the primaries where you vote.
Do your research and pick the best of the new faces even if they are not perfect. What we have now is not even close to acceptable, let alone perfect so we can’t be much worse off then we are now.
If the new person does not do the job and get things done, then we’ll replace them in two years. I would not hesitate to tell any new prospect the facts. Get it done in 2 years or YOU ARE DONE in 2 years.
I agree, 100%, vote ALL Incumbents out.
And, there is going to be an unbelievably large and strong anti-incumbency, on “both” sides of “the aisle” in 2024, such as we have not seen in our lifetimes.
WE need to put up MAGA Candidates in EVERY race: run as Dems, or RINOS if thats appropriate for your State or District, campaign to WIN, its what the barstuds do.
Dutchman, what do we do with the new representatives who then hire staff from the same cesspool of ‘senior executive staffing’ pools that are permanently ensconced in Washington DC? And then are wined and dined by the lobbyists throwing all sorts of “help” their way?
Seriously, what do we do about that?
Time for PDJT to form his MAGA Party. Nobody gets in without his approval and public ring kiss. It will be chaos for a while, but what’s difference from now? We’ll accept former Repubs, Dims, Independents, Whigs, who cares as long as they will stand together for the good of the Republic and its people.
The problem with that is $$$$. How do you prevent the shiny new faces from being corrupted just as the old faces were? To save our Republic, we must, somehow, some way stop the secret flow of money to all politicians. It’s the only way to win this fight.
NEVER LET A CRISIS GO TO WASTE
I would welcome the “chaos” of not having a speaker. Anyone that thinks the GOPe will simply sit back is forgetting that R members already threatened to join the D’s to push Hakeem Jeffries over as Speaker.
When they tell you who they are, listen.
And HOW many votes did McCarthy go thru before he finally dropped out voluntarily?
Pretty sure it was more than 3.
I want to see the names behind these “secret votes”.
I suspect if you check who voted against Jordan it’s the same people ho voted for the Biden “Green New Deal.”
Brietbart reports-Bobby Saparow, called “Pence’s sledgehammer” by Politico and a “senior advisor to Rep. Drew Ferguson (R-GA)” by Axios, told Axios, “Jim Jordan’s suit coat has a better shot of being worn for 3 hours than Jim does of getting Drew’s vote for Speaker”. Oh yeah there’s a Kemp connection too.
Dirty Kemp supporting China.
I think it was 15, and I don’t remember them leaving town for two long weekends, or all the b.s. nothing done in between. 3 votes in two weeks is sh1t.
From Conservative Daily:
Speaker Vote Day 4 – No VOTE, No WORK, NO PAY!
The vote for Speaker of the House continues. This past week, every day since Tuesday, the House has held a vote for Speaker of the House, with the top contenders being Jim Jordan and Hakeem Jeffries. Besides voting for a Speaker, it appears that the House has accomplished very little. No Speaker has been elected, and no real work has been done. So, my question is, why are they being paid? Congress needs to get one thing straight: No Work = NO PAY!
Today marks the fourth round of voting in the House of Representatives. If a candidate cannot be elected, the vote will be pushed to another day. And if a candidate is not elected, then what happens? You guessed it, the vote will be pushed to another day. Until a Speaker is elected, this cycle can seemingly go on indefinitely.
As previously mentioned in an article, without a Speaker, the House is essentially locked in a state of inaction. Primarily, the House cannot conduct any legislative work, especially in moving legislation to the floor because there is no one to bring it to the floor.
However, committees can continue holding hearings and votes without a Speaker. Committees such as the Homeland Security Committee, the J6 Committee, and the United States House Oversight Committee, which is investigating the Biden family, can all conduct their business; they can all work.
This leaves no excuse for why our Representatives may not be working. And by working, I don’t mean cutting deals and dragging their feet on the Speaker vote; I mean addressing the pressing problems our country is facing. Just because a Speaker vote is ongoing does not mean that all work and action must come to a halt. Important issues must be addressed and resolved. Even with limitations, the committees CAN still function.
The circus that is ongoing in the House is absolutely unacceptable. Lollygagging every single day, taking hours to vote on a Speaker, coming out empty-handed, and then repeating the same cycle again tomorrow does not address the critical issues in our country, such as the border invasion, the situation of the J6 patriots in jail, or the allegations of treason and corruption in the Biden family. This is not work, and therefore, they should not be paid during this time.
Our congressional members need to feel the pressure. It’s clear that many of them are primarily motivated by their salary, which is funded by American taxpayer dollars. So, perhaps it’s time to give them a wake-up call and take away the thing that motivates them. We are the employers, we hold the power, we are the bosses. If an employee fails to do their job, fails to work while on the clock, they are fired – NOT PAID.
Inaction is absolutely unacceptable. No work equals no pay! Congress, it’s high time to get your act together. Until a Speaker is installed, with or without a Speaker, it is expected that you do everything in your power to work on the issues our country is facing. Anything less than this is unacceptable. As it currently stands, the House is filled with individuals who are not taking action. Let’s make it crystal clear to Congress: with or without a Speaker, NO Work equals NO PAY!
The point being that Nothing of significance will change on the Hill unless the outfall from “Citizens United vs FEC” is finally dealt with. There’s simply too much money involved otherwise (ie. all those “Trillions of dollars at stake!”).
Even then, dark money would continue.
How much money is positive, or negative press coverage worth? Citizens United may have made things worse, but the only real solution is for voters to pay much closer attention to who they vote for. Nothing else will work.
Could someone point out to me where our Founding Fathers set it up so that the person fored to vacate can designate the interim Speaker – or how a “secret ballot” could eliminate Jim Jordan from another round?
Section 5, Article I of the US Constitution: “Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings”
You can Amend the Constitution. Past time to do so in my opinion.
I’m so sick of them!!!
I wonder who was/is more corrupt?
Al Capone or Congress?
At least he openly bashed your head in.
Congress by a mile! Sad to say.
What will be the result of having a Mohammedan Speaker of the House?
I haven’t seen any editorials about this yet.
Edit: okay, my bad. Hakeem isn’t a Musloid.
NO DEM SPEAKER. The Repubs won the house. If they cannot elect a Repub speaker and would actually vote for HAKEEM, we are truly done as a republic.
No more! No more! Build a dormitory.
What a bunch of chicken shits using a secret ballot afraid to show their true colors. Leak the vote count so we know who to target.
Or..the reps who voted for Jordan. Then reverse inventory will answer the question.
Is there some kind of Legal channel by which these 122 Voters can be publicly revealed?
The 122 Republicans in the House must be identified. Without delay!
Trump is simply waiting for the perfect moment to announce he’s back in for the speakership “if necessary” for the good of the country.
Those who balk will find their professional congressional rich uniparty careers quickly come to an end. So what are they going to do?
And if he loses, the Dems say, “Even his own party doesn’t want him for dog catcher. How can the country expect Donald J. Trump to get anything done if his own House hates him?”
You would be handing too much power to a rep in a blue or purple district or to just someone who is contrary.
Trump needs to be voted on for Speaker. What Dems say won’t matter. It will be, for once, all about the Republicans as a self standing group. Either he wins, or it reveals the fake Republicans within that group, once and for all.
The RINOs who did not vote for JJ are not going to vote for DJT.
And DJT should not lower himself to be thrown to the low-lifes in the House.
Probably the same thing they did to JJ today.
I must call you out sundance. A week or so ago you said Jim Jordan is deep state controlled, another puppet who will follow orders. If that’s the case why aren’t the rinos voting for him?
Smoke and mirrors got us Obama.
I caught that too, called him an anger Mgr for the uniparty. Couldn’t help but notice even before SD said as much, nothing ever came of his supposed efforts.
What/whoever JJ is, the RINOs are afraid of him. His own party, afraid of him.
At least it is going to be easy to manage my calls, emails, and texts from the RNC, House and Senate re-elect committee nigglers now…as in bye bye!
No more money from me. I will support a candidate or two, but even that is going to be curtailed. My absence will not break their profligate bank, but it has been real money in the past. And I won’t be alone.
They call me 100 times a day!
I keep thinking nothing they do will piss me off even more and I keep being wrong.
I’m right there with you, Laurie!!!
AMEN sistah !!
Retired Magistrate here: Restoring a constitutional republic is a long, messy business. However, we have to start somewhere. As time goes by, more and more individuals in congress are revealing who they really represent and…it isn’t us.
No truer words, Marcia. Sunlight is necessary, and it must be remembered that without this happening, too many people would have NO idea what’s really going on, and what’s really at stake.
How about a fresh new MAGA rally in D.C. ?
whatever happened to trump being speaker?
Always a bad idea.
Why do my comments need to be “approved”?
I enjoy the comments and interaction here, but the big brother oversight is going to lose me. Whatever.
At the top of this page Ad Rem explained that using an apostraphe in your screenname puts you in moderation. It’s a software glitch that has affected other commenters.
Thanks Mikey! (I lost his comment when one of the other admin posted it at the same time I was replying….ergo, the misplacement of my comment.)
I wondered as well, so I checked, and you’re not any of our lists. Then, it hit me….you’re using an “apostrophe” in your username. We’ve had this problem with several other commenters here as well. When they dropped the apostrophe, the problem went away.
It has to do with the apostrophe in your username acting as a “delimiter”. A delimiter serves as a data and code boundary when being read by a program. Our software reads it as stop sign.
https://www.techopedia.com/definition/3779/delimiter
If you ditch the apostrophe, I promise you will no longer get held up in moderation.
Next Up on Sunlight Bomb Friday!:
Vern the Terncoat Buchanan ♦ *Vern Buchanan: (202) 225-5015
Just another UniParty Hack…..
Vern Buchanan really really hates us.
What, from the perspective of us ordinary Americans, is the point of the Republican Party? The Republican Party can be relied on to oppose, at least rhetorically, the Democrats’ most lunatic stances on culture war issues, but they offer feeble resistance to them, and everywhere else, they’re just as in thrall to the billionaire class as the Democrats. If I were Matt Gaetz or one of the other MAGA congressmen/women, I’d be seriously considering splitting from the GOP and forming a new populist party. The time is ripe for such a party, since the real political divide is now between the authoritarian patricians and the anti-authoritarian populists. On the core issues of freedom and government by the people, for the people, there is tremendous agreement now between left- and right-wing populists and I’m seeing plenty of evidence that left-wing populists are willing to compromise on key issues (like those relating to the 2nd amendment) in exchange for compromises from right-wing populists on other issues (like the public provision of health care – which I’ll happily admit we could easily have paid for with the trillions of dollars that have been wasted in our name over the past few decades on pointless, counterproductive wars of choice). If left- and right-wing populists could unite under a single party, I believe we’d have the numbers to eviscerate the establishment wings of both oligarch parties.
If this is a step too far for the MAGA men and women in congress, even a credible threat of splitting with the GOP might give them added leverage they need to prevail in their struggle with the GOPe.
You’ve been writing about this exact situation for years, and like every thing else you have written about, it has all come true. Can’t thank you enough.
At this stage, it’s got to be Trump as Speaker…force his enemies to come out in the daylight…
Trump is magnanimous to offer but he’d be foolish to actually do it.
He’d get less votes than GWB.
Secret ballot says all you need to know. Fire them all
What are your thoughts on Byron Donaldson as speaker?
How about Lee Zeldin?
I would be fine with either Lee Zeldin or Byron Donalds. however, my 1st choice was JJ.
Excellent choice.
Acccording to this post Byron Donalds0n is running.
https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4191124/posts
BTW wouldn’t it be good with a Donald as president and a Donaldson as Speaker? 🙂
He won’t get it either as he has endorsed President Trump.
NO FUNDING FOR UKRAINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
COMER HAS THE BULLET AND THE GU N, ALL IN ONE CHECK WITH A MEMO.
Comer Releases Evidence of Direct Payment to Joe Biden
https://oversight.house.gov/release/comer-releases-evidence-of-direct-payment-to-joe-biden/
For those of us tired of the charade, should there be a bold uprising by Trump supporters to demand Trump be named Speaker? Would there be a big advantage to him to be Speaker for the 2024 election or is it more risk than reward? Burn up the phones and declare no donations in 2024 until our demands are met?
Another option:
Demand Jordan be made Speaker or pledge total nonsupport of whomever they select. Any RINO appointed as Speaker will not be supported in 2024 and thus won’t be re-elected next November. Who’d want the chair then.
OR:
Just let this stupidity play out, be silent, and keep our powder dry?
If you still believe voting will fix our country you’re lying to yourself.
The sooner we admit this country is lost the sooner we can actually take it back.
I wish Stefanik were interested but she has a toddler.
Jordan should have announced that the US is in a critical financial crisis, and he is going to put the brakes on spending. Any Republican voting against him is voting for higher food prices, higher gas prices, and never ending wars. Dare them to vote against you.
The problem is our vote no longer matters, they will never voluntarily give up the power, both sides of the uniparty hate the peasants, uhh I mean their constitutes.
I always remember Sundance’s assertion that Republicans use power to get money. What can we deny them, and government in general?
God bless free will. We all have it. Amazing gift.
The keeping of the House for Trump is looking harder and harder to achieve.
It’s orchestrated by the UniParty to end up that way.
Writing is on the wall, McHenry interim will pass all $$$ for war.
No need to explain, SD has explained it all.
Did they formally pass a resolution to give McHenry full Speaker powers? I’d like to see a discussion of House Rules and what options are open, currently and potentially, to McHenry. My read of the near 50 page rule book showed, to me, that McHenry is empowered to do whatever is necessary to get the next Speaker elected and that is all.
One can search ‘House of Representatives Rules’ and read the documents. The role of any Speaker Pro Tem are clearly enumerated there. Are there other rules?
It’s a BIG CLUB, and we ain’t in it…. YET! and the biggest most, exclusive club is the federal reserve system which basically has a minion type large numbers in an excel spread sheet credit column using the credit to buy t-bills each Monday at auction, keeping a few percent of the interest collected at maturity for their stock holders and themselves and returning the balance to the treasury.
sure, the frb is audited by the gao whom is given records required by law for audit but which have exclusions one could drive a truck through.
live your best life in your own club as the sage writes.
“It’s a BIG CLUB, and we ain’t in it…. YET!”
No disrespect intended, Sundance; but, personally, I don’t want to being their club.
When just 122 people thwart the will of millions of constituents, I don’t think is a Big Club…it’s actually very small. Our consolation prize for all of this will be seeing the GOP kill itself. Maybe then, something will rise from the ashes to actually represent the will of its voters. Fcuk the GOP! 💥🇺🇸 TRUMP 2024 🇺🇸💥
I wonder if they could ‘draft’ Devin Nunes for the Speaker job.
He’s more honest than most I’ve seen.
Honesty is precisely the problem for them!
Devin Nunes would not be chosen precisely because he is “honest” and is too aligned with President Trump!
Watch the RINOS gladly vote for Nancy Pelosi!!!
I say we go without a speaker for awhile.
I think #NoSpeakerForYou is trending. if not it should be. What’s the worst that would happen?
Millions not being spent?
Billions not being spent
Bribes not happening?
Dirty money not coming back to politicians on the down low?
A positive… republicans in charge of house, can’t elect a speaker. Gridlock is good.
Yes.. a silver lining. One solution…tell the holdouts they’ll support Ukraine funding. For every dollar spent, they have to spend $1.50 on the Southern Border. See if that will work… 😂
Next Up on Rino Role Call!! Ken Pass The Buck
RINO holdout Ken Buck says he won’t vote for Jim Jordan because Jordan won’t acknowledge Joe Biden won the 2020 Election.
Well, here’s Buck in August 2020 saying mail-in ballots are “appropriate” and Trump was just “paranoid” for suggesting otherwise.
Makes a little more sense now, doesn’t it?
Ken Buck: Steve Scalise, Jim Jordan Won’t Admit Biden Won 2020 Election for Fear of Upsetting Trump’s Base
“If we don’t have the moral clarity to decide whether President Biden won or not, we don’t have the moral clarity to rule in this country, period,”
–Ken Buck
I wonder if it would be possible to stick the barrel of that rifle up their rearends at the same time?
What? Not everyone wants Orville Redenbacher as temporary Speaker? Not even if they toss in Nancy Pelosi as co- Speaker?
Never trust a bow tie; Sen Simon, George Will, Tucker when he was pro global war, et al.
It is time a MAGA rep nominates President Trump as House Speaker.
Put every Republican on the record whether they support the de facto leader of the party and country.
A very well articulated article in plain english to what we’re up against in this country and probably most countries.
