In a historic first the House of Representatives has voted to remove Kevin McCarthy from his position as Speaker of the House.

WASHINGTON DC – Democrats joined with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and his small group of conservative allies to vote to strip Kevin McCarthy of his gavel Tuesday. It’s unclear who would succeed McCarthy long term, though his allies expect he will try to run for speaker again.
Eight Republicans voted against McCarthy: Reps. Eli Crane (Ariz.), Ken Buck (Colo.), Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Matt Rosendale (Mont.), Matt Gaetz (Fla.), Bob Good (Va.), Nancy Mace (S.C.) and Tim Burchett (Tenn.).
Three House leaders have been floated as potential long-term replacements: Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) and Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.). I’m not so sure that the rebellion is proven alive because of this vote.
The massive unanimous Democrat vote and the “rebellion” of only 8 Republicans voting to vacate only shows to me that McCarthy was duped when he deviously caved to the Democrats or Uniparty by acting in all the ways that the articulate and passionate Gaetz argued after every or almost every pro McCarthy GOP Rep defended their Speaker.
The Democrats betrayed their amicable ally McCarthy only because of the turmoil it will cause in the Republican Congress but maybe it will backfire and a new and better Speaker will be elected that will actually promote the “rebellion.” Given the majority Republican votes that McCarthy received it does not seem likely to happen.
Reps Jordan, Scalise, Massie, Stefanik and so on effusively praised McCarthy’s actions as Speaker but Rep Graves was the most ludicrous of them all when he declared McCarthy the greatest Speaker in American history. Over the last few days, Rep. Matt Gaetz was one of the most eloquent and insightful speakers that the House has ever heard and seen.

Bottom line is that McCarthy was not advancing any promises he made to become Speaker of the House and has helped more than hindered the advancement of Democrat policies and spending. I just listened to Levin rant against Gates on his radio show on the way to an appt. McCarthy has not kept promises. This could morph into from Dumb to Dumber — depending on the replacement. However, when are any of these actors held accountable?

Levin, like many, can talk a good conservative game, but what we are finding out is that votes on SPENDING are what separates the real conservatives from the conservative talkers. Only about 35% (if that) of the House Republicans are conservative when it comes to SPENDING.
McCarthy’s job (now, the Speaker’s job, whoever that might become) is to give cover to the 65% of the R caucus who are just the usual corrupt uniparty hacks. Government by Continuing Resolution is how the Speaker gives the majority of his caucus political cover, because with government by CR, they do not have to vote on individual spending/budgetary issues.

Gaetz has repeatedly said that he doesn’t want them to overlook Scalise because he is receiving blood cancer treatment. I don’t really see that as an endorsement. Two-edged sword there.
The point is that failure to keep your word has consequences. And the failure to act in favor of the American people means that you will be voted out of the leadership position.
