Last night I participated in a conversation. This article is written as an outcome of that conversation, as requested by those who participated.
Essentially, the framework of the conversation, as I initially listened, is best described as a series of questions amid a group of smart intellectual types who are very understanding of the nature of our current situation.
In various forms they were asking each other the same question. What happened in the last several years that caused Democrats, leftists and the traditional political left to switch positions on their advocacy?
Liberalism literally went from railing against Big Govt, to embracing corrupt Big Govt. Why and how did this happen?
In short, it was the same line of questioning I have seen asked by Tucker Carlson, Glenn Greenwald, Tulsi Gabbard and various traditionally liberal people as well as people on the right side of the continuum.
Why and how did traditional liberalism so suddenly flip from being, big picture – ‘anti-government’, to suddenly embracing corrupt government enterprise, and supporting the intelligence apparatus, federal govt (writ large), institutional oppressive law enforcement and FBI etc.? What happened?
After listening to this conversation quietly, as I am prone to do, my remarks -with citations and examples- silenced the room.
At the conclusion of my remarks, everyone asked me if I had ever written about this, and if not – why not? I did not have an answer, so consider this a promise fulfilled. Perhaps you might find value.
In the 50 years that preceded 2008, traditional leftists, media activists, left-wing community organizing agencies, Democrats, liberals, progressives, or whatever label you want to assign, essentially railed against the U.S. government and all that it represented. However, now, if you were to look at the issues from the 30,000-foot perspective, those same groups currently support the oppressive & weaponized system of government they formerly despised.
In the 50 years that preceded 2008, those same groups had an approach of distrust toward government, and the media apparatus had a very distinct supportive and cynical outlook, favorable to the leftist anti-government perspective. Now, all of that has reversed – seemingly flipped.
In the 50 years that preceded 2008, media pushed a one-way narrative in defense of those who were “targeted” by the institutions and mechanisms of government. As the activists railed against the regime, the media framed narratives to excuse the transparently guilty. Now, that entire dynamic has reversed. Now we see the media pushing a narrative in support of weaponized government targeting, and – here’s the kicker – framing the transparently innocent.
The activists went from accusing government of wrongdoing and defending the transparently guilty – to aligning with government, excusing government wrongdoing, and helping to attack the transparently innocent.
As some continue to say with jaw agape, WTF happened?
The answer “why” is not complicated…. not complicated at all.
In 2008, the ‘activists’ took control of government.
In January of 2009, the leftists, community organizers and activists took control of the systems they had opposed for the preceding 50+ years.
In January of 2009, and inflection point took place; an inflection point that no one realized in forethought, scale or consequence.
Starting in 2009, all of the systems of federal government were now under the control of the people who previously fought against the systems of federal government. Everything since is an outcome of that inflection point; that’s why everything flipped.
All of it, and I do mean every scintilla of the thing; every single granular detail and example you can put in front of me can be traced back to that moment when the activists were no longer outside government railing against the corrupt system they hated.
Starting in January of 2009, the activists took power over the United States government, and every outside institution, including media, necessarily and ideologically followed that inversion.
Starting in 2009, the systems and institutions of the U.S government now came under the control of the radical activists.
In the eight years that followed, the mission of every institution was changed. Government was weaponized on behalf of the leftist activists who now took control of it. Everything thereafter is a consequence of this change.
When I use the word “suddenly”, it is only for understanding the inflections point that came as a consequence. In actuality, the severity of change inside each institution took place over several years. That’s why the intensity of the weaponized and corrupt systems became worse over time.
As each institution was infiltrated to become more aligned with the mindset of the activists, the institutions became more radical in their targeting and weaponization.
The activists went from being outside government to being inside government.
Suddenly, the left-wing supportive media changed mission priority from railing against corrupt government, to defending the corrupt weaponization of govt.
Suddenly, the FBI went from targeting domestic threats, to targeting only the domestic threats defined as against the interests of the left-wing activists.
Suddenly, the outside activists went from being defined as social elements creating turmoil, to social elements now being defended and even promoted.
This is why we see outside activist groups like the Dream Defenders, New Black Panthers, Black Lives Matter, Occupy Wall Street and more recently ANTIFA, as protected and supported by the activists inside government now in control of the systems and institutions.
All of the social, cultural and political dynamics that changed traditional “liberalism” are easily understood once you realize and accept that activists took control of the power centers of the U.S. government.
Everything that followed, including our current state of social and political turmoil, is simply a natural conclusion of that fundamental change.
The radical activists are now in control of the institutions of power. This core shift is what created the dynamic of a very visible two-tiered justice system. Each institution was weaponized and continues to be weaponized against those who are not aligned with the activist ideology.
The Dept of Justice has been weaponized against people who are not in alignment with the radicals.
The federal police, known as the FBI, have been weaponized against We The People.
The Intelligence Community is now under the control of the radical activists. The mission priorities change accordingly.
When Tucker Carlson, Glenn Greenwald, Tulsi Gabbard or any other person posits the question about ‘why’ the ideology of the left and media has shifted so suddenly, there is your answer.
It is not a complicated understanding. Once you accept this fundamental change took place, everything seemingly falls into place….
…. At least that’s what the “ah-ha” audience told me.

This is of course all true, but the antecedents go back a very long way, and tyranny by strong men and government is the way of the world, until Christianity. Through it’s influence, especially in the English speaking world, God’s law became the foundation of Western civilization. This started most prominently with King Alfred the Great establishing the Ten Commandments at the basis of English law, which was then enshrined in Magna Carta in 1215 which was the first time in history the king became subject to law himself. Eventually that all led to an America inspired the the Puritans and the first Great Awakening that established liberty and limited government. It was Christianity alone that gave us those two societal blessings. And what Enlightenment influence there was, it was mostly the Scottish Enlightenment that embraced Christianity.
The continental Enlightenment, however, began a process of pushing back against a God ordained governing structure and the rise of secularism. In due course that gave rise to progressivism and man thinking he could perfect everything through “science” and government power. Modern liberalism was always fated to be taken over by the Marxists because that is the logical conclusion of a God-less secular universe. The Founders knew, regardless of how orthodox their Christianity was, that without what they called “religion,” meaning the dominant form of Protestant Christianity of the time, the experiment of a self-governing republic would never succeed. We are seeing that played out before our very eyes.

We have been undergoing a stealth Collectivist / Communist revolution since Obama, and possible back to the Clintons.
During the Obama reign Stanley Kurtz wrote a book called “Radical in Chief” about Obama’s background (about which, there remain several gaps in public knowledge). Obama’s career of “community organizer” is code speech for a Saul Alinsky operative. Obama was mentored by Frank Marshall Davis in Hawaii, and then ended up in Chicago (which was Alinsky’s base of operations).
Once in Chicago, Communist revolutionary / Weather Underground founder Bill Ayers helped launch Obama’s first political campaign.
Alinsky in “Rules for Radicals” preached that the SDS / Weather Underground tactics were destined to fail. That to have a revolution in the United States, it would be necessary to burrow into the political system, appear to be a legitimate player, and then set the stage for revolution by stealth, subverting the system from within.
Hillary Clinton was an acolyte of Alinsky; he even offered her a job.
It is also possible that Obama was /is a Muslim Brotherhood operative (I have a suspicion that he had Indonesian citizenship via his adopted father, and first entered college under that as a foreign student).
Read “And Not a Shot is Fired” – since post-WWII Communists adopted the method of revolution through subversion and hijacking democratic elections.
This was Obama’s mission. The “racial” / “first Black President” hype made for perfect cover. It was “racist” to try to look under the covers of what Obama was really about.
Trump beating the algorithms and wining election interrupted the plan.
The stolen election / coup d’etat of 2020, and the subsequent installation of the unelected Biden-Harris Junta was and is meant to get the revolution back on track, and soon bring to consummation. Obama is running Biden. In turn, my suspicion is that the CCP (and Muslim Brotherhood) are running Obama.
I refer to those forces as the Globalist-CCP Axis.

Yes Thomas, and yes SD. For a while, I’d try to convince life-long dems their party wasn’t the party they fell in love with back in their college days. Big problem was Obama. They were deep into a swoon that we finally had a black president and that meant he could do no wrong. 4 years later he ran again. At the main highway intersections, his school-age supporters were waving his campaign signs. The swoon continued.
One of my theories, is that the advantage of a “Black POTUS” being above criticism, was a double edged sword, that contributed to Obama going “too far, too fast”.
Before there was “the Trump effect” on polling, there was a similar “Obama effect”, particularly on the “Presidential approval polls”.
Go back and look; the initial question of “country; right track /wrong direction” was at historically unprecedented levels, at the Start of his admin (explained by the 2009 financial crises) but that remained at those levels, even as the financials stabilised and improved.
The respondents, having told the pollster, in effect “things SUCK” are then asked to respond “strongly approve, somewhat approve, disapprove, strongly disapprove” of the OBAMA policies on: the economy, trade, energy, foreign relations, etc.
As the romancr over Obama dissipated, and people saw his actual policies, a great many WOULD have said “disapprove/strongly disapprove”, but they didn’t want to be viewed by the interviewer as RASCIST, so,..they lied saying “approve, approve somewhat, or even strongly.”
Now, they are in a dillemma; they said “everything SUCKS” but then gave the POTUS admin high marks, which is a contradiction, and the polls next questions gave them their out, when it asked them to rate CONGRESS.SO, they resolved their contradiction by giving strong disapproval to CONGRESS.
Obama admin THOUGHT that meant he had far more approval for his policies than he really had, and that he could rail against an obstructionist Congress, to push even harder.
Admins don’t use polls to actually detirmine policy, but they do use them as “feedback” on whether they are “messaging correctly” and whether to push harder on the gas, or let off and even brake to slow down.
The Obama effect, followed by the Trump effect both lieing to the pollsters, and now the MAGA effect (of not even talking to pollsters) has distorted this feedback and then eliminated it, and its why they seem to be shooting wild.
The RDS handlers really need input from MAGA, on what would ‘sell’ RDS to us, and they are getting largely SILENCE.

Stanley Kurtz’s “Radical in Chief” was a fantastic book, well-researched and highly informative. I read immediately upon publishing and it gave me a clear understanding of Obama early on. The book was tedious, at times, but well worth the tedium because I learned so much. All of the puzzle pieces fit together (even today) after you learn from Stanley Kurtz’s great research.
I would venture that this was a Clinton project. 8 years of Clintonian hiring… It would explain why the big hubbabaloo over “Dubya” beating Al Gore in ’00. Then, 9/11 made it near impossible to attack then President Shrub, so, they continued to hire and strategically promote leftists into Government. By the time the magical date when an African American was elected into Camelot, gave cover to the shennanigans involved to make it happen. With the brother of a honky socialist mother in the WH they then implemented their agenda and jettisoned senior NCO’s and Commissioned Officers to promote their slate of radical Flag Officers to control the military. Brennan had the IC well in hand, the Harry and Nancy show ruled in Capitol Hill and the Supremes’ were mostly liberal to liberalist with the exception of Alito, Scalia, Thomas, Kennedy and a squishy Roberts… It was an unreliable bunch that only got worse with Kagan & Sotomayor…
Our best path today is SCOTUS… Particularly if the overturn the Chevron decision… Dictators are of the “’cause I said so” Club. If thesevleftists have to make laws and pass budgets, many of these GSA parasites will retire. Trump’s idea of making them take a Civil Service Test would rid us of many political appointees who then got a job within the agency open only to employees… No test taken…
Make them undersyand the saying of “everyone wants to be a gangster, until it’s time to do real gangster shit”.
Sue them for their excesses, and appeal any loss at local “hack in black” levels to circuit or even SCOTUS, where the judges are less connected to party politics. This attrition is not something they foresee.

The world is in revolt against the Western elites as are the common people of the West. All the problems of the world have been created by the same small group of people.

A Trumpist fix would involve a return to Federalism where States would jump on the Feds whenever these would exceed their enumerated powers, and a return to the Hamiltonian American System where tariffs were collected by the State’s and Feds so that one hand watches the other. My mother warned us about this in the 60’s. She said that when she was in college in the 30’s that were were Marxist and communist professors who were grooming coteries of students. They were anti-religion (notably).She said this had never stopped. Thankfully she went to her grave not having seen the worst of what she predicted.
My sister, who never cared much for politics, called the Kenyan, the anti-Christ. She knew he spoke with a forked tongue and said he would sow seeds of division. Good job identifying an inflection point. But once in power the activists started being much more like than unlike that which they had previously railed against. They didn’t dismantle Big Finance or Intelligence merely changed who is regarded as hostile and friendly.
So for Part II, I would love to read your take on WHY they are doing all this, what is their desired outcome?
It’s the devil. To have total domain over every man woman and child. They even want domain over their own fellow travelers. Whomever might be at the top of their ranks would want to control the number two right next to him.
And THAT right there is their Achilles heal. At the end of the day, they can’t even trust each other. Usually when snakes take power they end up killing or imprisoning those that helped them because they know those people are also snakes. THAT is where we need to focus our efforts. We need then infighting. They are extremely good at sticking together for their overarching goal. But just like anything else, they suck at managing things in an organized manor.
The success of taking over the country was easier for them because their strategy has been mass chaos. And although you could say they were well organized in this assault, it still took them 250+ years. So if they gain the last bit of control they most likely will lose it becasue they won’t be able to keep it organized.
At the end of the day all we truly need is for the other citizens of earth to simply acknowledge this is truly happening. Once that happens it allows us to organize the counter offensive. Which will be MUCH more organized and strategic. All they have is chaos and blunt force. That’s it.
Please Lord, just wake up 40% of the masses. That is all I ask. If we get that much it will be too much for Satan and his minions to over come.

Another aspect of the inflection point, MAY have been the collusion between the two wings of the Uniparty bird, that seems to have occurred during Obama.
I am absolutely convinced Congressional Republicon Leadership were fully involved in Benghazi, after reading Sundances excellent detailed after action review. (its in the archives, and well worth the read).
He ends by saying the R leadership (Goudy) had to exhonerate Hillary, because they were fully complicit, too.
I apply the same logic to Fast/Furious and of coarse Tea Party/IRS; and it is tea party IRS that may have cemented a closer bond between the two wings, hence the “tipping point”?

While I initially read, and reccomended others read Jay Valentines work, his continual insistence that unless HIS system is adopted, BY SOMEBODY (the RNC, TTV, Mike Lindell) that the 2024 election will be stolen, does not ring true.
He SAYS he is offering it “for free”; and yet Mike Lindell, who has ponied up millions for TTV’s efforts, KL’s legal challenges, etc. isn’t interested in it?

I submit Sundance has NOT “missed a point”, although he may not have emphasised it in THIS article which attempts to answer a specific question,…Sundances series of “Live your best” articles consistently say, as STEP ONE; “Get right with God” and so I respectfully submit perhaps it is you who “missed” that?

What really blows me away is that so many of the people I knew back then still do not see the change in the left from small government to big government, free speech to censure ship. They think I have changed! I have not changed, my beliefs are the same but left and right have reversed. They don’t get it. And I don’t get how they don’t get it.
Maybe 2008 was the point of no return instead of the inflection point.

One of the most chilling things I have ever heard was during the 2016 campaign, when Hillary said, “I have always been an activist, and as your President, I will continue to be an activist!”

What a coincidence, my husband was with his group of older friends at our club and this topic came up. My husband said exactly what you have written Sundance and these gentlemen looked bewildered. The sad part is these are all life long Republicans, retired FBI agents and one fellow even was in the Florida legislature for years. I really don’t think people understood what Obama meant when he said he would fundamentally change our country.

Your points are well taken; however, we need to go back farther. Big govenment was embraced and implemented under LBJ and the Democrats in Congress. Suddenly, government was going to solve all the problems: welfare, education, environment and energy conservation. It was under that administration that the green movement, intially directed toward gettinf rid of nuclear energy got teeth.
The Great Society was going to solve all the social problems; it created them. Destroyed the family unit, centered people in urban ghettos, and focused on divisions.
The FBI was run by a corrupt Hoover who had a little black book on everyone in industry and in government. Sadly, LBJ was the beginning of this current trough. Clinton and Obama intensified the corruption, and, finallythe current administration no longe even pretends that we have representative government.
