Last night I participated in a conversation. This article is written as an outcome of that conversation, as requested by those who participated.
Essentially, the framework of the conversation, as I initially listened, is best described as a series of questions amid a group of smart intellectual types who are very understanding of the nature of our current situation.
In various forms they were asking each other the same question. What happened in the last several years that caused Democrats, leftists and the traditional political left to switch positions on their advocacy?
Liberalism literally went from railing against Big Govt, to embracing corrupt Big Govt. Why and how did this happen?
In short, it was the same line of questioning I have seen asked by Tucker Carlson, Glenn Greenwald, Tulsi Gabbard and various traditionally liberal people as well as people on the right side of the continuum.
Why and how did traditional liberalism so suddenly flip from being, big picture – ‘anti-government’, to suddenly embracing corrupt government enterprise, and supporting the intelligence apparatus, federal govt (writ large), institutional oppressive law enforcement and FBI etc.? What happened?
After listening to this conversation quietly, as I am prone to do, my remarks -with citations and examples- silenced the room.
At the conclusion of my remarks, everyone asked me if I had ever written about this, and if not – why not? I did not have an answer, so consider this a promise fulfilled. Perhaps you might find value.
In the 50 years that preceded 2008, traditional leftists, media activists, left-wing community organizing agencies, Democrats, liberals, progressives, or whatever label you want to assign, essentially railed against the U.S. government and all that it represented. However, now, if you were to look at the issues from the 30,000-foot perspective, those same groups currently support the oppressive & weaponized system of government they formerly despised.
In the 50 years that preceded 2008, those same groups had an approach of distrust toward government, and the media apparatus had a very distinct supportive and cynical outlook, favorable to the leftist anti-government perspective. Now, all of that has reversed – seemingly flipped.
In the 50 years that preceded 2008, media pushed a one-way narrative in defense of those who were “targeted” by the institutions and mechanisms of government. As the activists railed against the regime, the media framed narratives to excuse the transparently guilty. Now, that entire dynamic has reversed. Now we see the media pushing a narrative in support of weaponized government targeting, and – here’s the kicker – framing the transparently innocent.
The activists went from accusing government of wrongdoing and defending the transparently guilty – to aligning with government, excusing government wrongdoing, and helping to attack the transparently innocent.
As some continue to say with jaw agape, WTF happened?
The answer “why” is not complicated…. not complicated at all.
In 2008, the ‘activists’ took control of government.
In January of 2009, the leftists, community organizers and activists took control of the systems they had opposed for the preceding 50+ years.
In January of 2009, and inflection point took place; an inflection point that no one realized in forethought, scale or consequence.
Starting in 2009, all of the systems of federal government were now under the control of the people who previously fought against the systems of federal government. Everything since is an outcome of that inflection point; that’s why everything flipped.
All of it, and I do mean every scintilla of the thing; every single granular detail and example you can put in front of me can be traced back to that moment when the activists were no longer outside government railing against the corrupt system they hated.
Starting in January of 2009, the activists took power over the United States government, and every outside institution, including media, necessarily and ideologically followed that inversion.
Starting in 2009, the systems and institutions of the U.S government now came under the control of the radical activists.
In the eight years that followed, the mission of every institution was changed. Government was weaponized on behalf of the leftist activists who now took control of it. Everything thereafter is a consequence of this change.
When I use the word “suddenly”, it is only for understanding the inflections point that came as a consequence. In actuality, the severity of change inside each institution took place over several years. That’s why the intensity of the weaponized and corrupt systems became worse over time.
As each institution was infiltrated to become more aligned with the mindset of the activists, the institutions became more radical in their targeting and weaponization.
The activists went from being outside government to being inside government.
Suddenly, the left-wing supportive media changed mission priority from railing against corrupt government, to defending the corrupt weaponization of govt.
Suddenly, the FBI went from targeting domestic threats, to targeting only the domestic threats defined as against the interests of the left-wing activists.
Suddenly, the outside activists went from being defined as social elements creating turmoil, to social elements now being defended and even promoted.
This is why we see outside activist groups like the Dream Defenders, New Black Panthers, Black Lives Matter, Occupy Wall Street and more recently ANTIFA, as protected and supported by the activists inside government now in control of the systems and institutions.
All of the social, cultural and political dynamics that changed traditional “liberalism” are easily understood once you realize and accept that activists took control of the power centers of the U.S. government.
Everything that followed, including our current state of social and political turmoil, is simply a natural conclusion of that fundamental change.
The radical activists are now in control of the institutions of power. This core shift is what created the dynamic of a very visible two-tiered justice system. Each institution was weaponized and continues to be weaponized against those who are not aligned with the activist ideology.
The Dept of Justice has been weaponized against people who are not in alignment with the radicals.
The federal police, known as the FBI, have been weaponized against We The People.
The Intelligence Community is now under the control of the radical activists. The mission priorities change accordingly.
When Tucker Carlson, Glenn Greenwald, Tulsi Gabbard or any other person posits the question about ‘why’ the ideology of the left and media has shifted so suddenly, there is your answer.
It is not a complicated understanding. Once you accept this fundamental change took place, everything seemingly falls into place….
…. At least that’s what the “ah-ha” audience told me.

There is a scene in the TV series “West Wing” when someone says to Toby, “You aren’t railing against “the Man”, pony tail waving,…you ARE “the Man”.
So yes, when “the leftists” pushed aside Hillary, and installed Barry, the goal of the 60’s “hippies” as expressed in the 1968 Chicago riots, SEEMED to have “finally” been achieved, i.e. the wresting control of the Dem party from the LBJ/Hillary component.
This mirrors the same cycle that is ALWAYS evident, in CONmunism; the constant infighting between “the old guard” and the “young turks” when the “long knives come out” and purges occur.
And, as always happens, the young turks insist the old guard are corrupt, and have betrayed the ideals of the Party, and once in power quickly act to secure their position and exploit the very corruption they rail against.
And now the “useful idiots” are beginning to awaken and see this, and to recoil as they START to see the truth; that they have been PLAYED.
In the same way that the RNC/GOPe has “played” the Republican base, the DNC complex has “played” the Democrat, liberal base, WE just don’t see it, because of the division the Uniparty has intentionally sewed.
Ultimately, the Uniparty Globalist agenda isn’t about left or right, any more than its about D vs R, or “conservative vs liberal” with both words hopelessly distorted.
WE see the agenda as being “leftist” because thats the way they paint it, because that suits their interests.

In the 50s and 60s when most manufacturing was located in the US and US products dominated the WWII-destroyed world, the oligarchy was nationalistic and the targets of the FBI, CIA, and Deep State were the anti-nationalists (communists/leftists).

Things were just on the cusp of the full scale embrace of globalism/fascism when Rush passed away.
He still trusted the traditional political system, though with cutting insight into it’s corruption. He thought things could be corrected by traditional means. That voting and enforcement of laws were corrective means of resetting the leftward direction.

A lot of what we are suffering from would not be happening if he had cleaned them out but he chose to leave them there. And he will never get that opportunity again.

The head of the DOJ (a Cabinet position) is the Attorney General, who is required to be approved by the Senate per the Constitution. Per the Constitution, President Trump had to get Senate approval of candidates for all of his Cabinet positions, and in 2017 he was limited to choices of personnel who the Senate Majority Leader McConnell told him would be acceptable. It was fruitless for the president to submit other names since they would not be considered by the Senate. That – plus not declaring recess for 4 years straight – was how the Republican anti-MAGA RINOs prevented PDJT from physically draining the Swamp.

The reason I ask is, nobody has said anything about hiring anybody. The discussion is about firing corrupt DOJ officials. What happens next is another subject. But you’ve got to clean out the corruption. Draining the swamp is firing the corrupt bureaucrats. Restocking might be a challenge. But that’s a fight worth having. In the meantime the corruptocrats are gone. And the more you get rid of the easier the fight becomes. President Trump didn’t have to ask Mitch McConnell’s permission for anything.

Trump winning and getting back in office is our absolute last shot to save America in an orderly manner as far as I can tell. When he gets in he has to make some moves that are going to cause massive backlash from the machine. But he and WE shouldn’t not give two craps about that backlash. Those decisions are distinctly to save America. And bluntly speaking, their backlash and violence on the left is going to come no matter what. So I’d prefer it come from Trump doing a great thing to help America. Not some random Wednesday when a cop in Utah accidentally runs over a dog or something that sets off the crazies (when in reality it’s because Soros sent them in to action and paid them to go crazy).

It’s worth going back and reviewing Horowitz’s (and Collier’s? I forget) “Surviving the PC University” – the essays therein describe the way that universities were being taken over in the 1970s by Leftists. I can also recall specific stories that I heard personally about the Sturm und Drang going on in various academic departments, although this was later, in the 1990s. Both the book and my recollections show how genuine liberals were being shunted aside by this New Wave. Remember, all the woke types in government and in modern corporations have been marinated in the same universities that were taken over by the Left beginning in the 1970s.

The dam has burst and America is done. As Sundance says, live your best life, confident of the final result when you stand before the LORD. Through prayer and continued resistance, God may bail us out (perhaps our new battle cry should be “Remember Nineveh!”) as it’s not impossible to recover from this point, but without God it certainly is.

The real answer are the Teacher’s Unions and the government take over of student loans, which paid for more left-wing, read socialist teachings to the young. You will never know your rights are gone if you never knew that you had them.
I don’t think this really needed explaining. And it only feels like a sudden shift because they got a hold of the final piece of the equation, which was the LE IC and DOD.
The left/commies had already taken over the financial and media sectors long ago. They just couldn’t crack the bit of law enforcement. Now that they have that they have it all. And those that didn’t support the government or LE have no problem supporting it now because it’s giving them the results that they want and crave.
What we need is to do exactly what they did. Trojan horse them right back. But first we need more of the fence sitting people to realize that this is in fact happening and we need to respond. We have far too many people on our side who are too naive and believe these things are occurring naturally. They are NOT.
We need the people to WAKE up. Not “pay attention”, be fully AWAKE (not to be confused with woke) and understand we are moments away from literal Stasi kicking down average Joes doors and dragging them off with bags over their heads in the middle of the night. We are RIGHT THERE. The last threads that hold things together from being at that point are fraying right before our eyes. If people don’t wake up we are going to be living in a “V for Vendetta-esque” society in mere moments.
Everyone that reads here needs to hammer this home with everyone they know and see daily. Have examples to point out already drafted on note cards so when someone laughs at us we can hand the card to them. And on those cards have URLs to web articles that they can easily read for themselves. Because some of them most likely won’t know about some of the things that we are acutely aware of and were made public but just ignored by MSM.

Agree that the most significant and obvious aspect of the social destruction in United States occurred in 2008 and continues. It seems to me that I was social destruction started in the 60s when we said we no longer respect or compensate people on their achievement, but on social qualifiers.

First, it wasn’t, and isn’t, Obama. He was installed in the White House. He is, by his own admission, a lazy person.
The media are now completely owned by the elites. Why should we be at all surprised that, once again, a relatively small group of people are trying to take over the world?
The previous comment on the media goes with the communism vs. fascism argument. It is a hybrid, as the elites plan for the rest of us is to depopulate the globe substantially, and also reduce the middle class to the level of dependence on the elites along with people who are already there. The Bolsheviks knew how to deal with an inconvenient middle class. Mao knew too. This has been in full swing now for some time. A successful, powerful middle class must be destroyed.
How did the election of Barack Obama happen? The Republicans ran John McCain and Sarah Palin. Was there ever a bigger warmonger than John McCain? Why did the Republicans pick that pair to run against Obama?
One more final thought. The Deep State cannot afford to allow Donald Trump to move into the White House. He is, IMHO, the ONLY one who might have the capability to actually change things.
