CHICAGO -A community meeting Thursday evening on plans to turn a former high school in the South Shore neighborhood into a temporary shelter for migrants got tense.
“Build the wall. Make a border.” “Put them on the North Side.” Those were some of the words attendees shouted during the meeting at South Shore International College Preparatory High School. City officials hosted the form to detail their plans to turn the former South Shore High School building, 7627 S. Constance Ave., into a respite center.
“There’s more than 300 migrants waiting in police stations across the city,” said Nubia Willman, chief engagement officer for the city’s Office of Community Engagement.
Dozens of residents from the area and neighboring communities attended the capacity event. According to the city, the plan is to use the first floor of the former high school, giving 500 asylum seekers a space to stay temporarily as local efforts continue to find shelter for them.
“Why would you do that without asking us about our input to the people who leave right in front of the South Shore school? 250 people, give me a break,” one local resident said. (read more)

Homelessness in our country is a total disgrace. Agreed, a lot of it has to do with drugs. Addiction is not the only issue. There are people living in cars and old RVs too.
How do people who are barely surviving supposed to amass the money for deposits for rent and utilities? How do they pass credit checks?

First, this was a community meeting and had nothing to do with the City Council of Chicago except perhaps that the local alders were present.
Second, while I have zero sympathy for sanctuary cities receiving buses of small numbers of recent illegals, cities cannot print money to address problems caused by a federal administration that fails to enforce the immigration laws. It is a tough problem and attacking local residents as some posters have done is pointless. Chicago’s budget is already in the red, and these illegal migrants have to have someplace to dwell since Biden invited them in. As Christians we have to house and feed the sojourner. As Americans we need to rid ourselves of the illegal junta running the executive branch of the federal government.
How many of these immigrants will have to start dealing or turning tricks to get money to pay off their Cartel debt? Vicious cycle, the border is a humanitarian crisis.
