I am from Kentucky. The current first in line to replace McConnell is thought to be a candidate for governor, Cameron. Even if, the replacement for McConnell is just another senator. McConnell derives his power from the senators electing him as leader. That does not transfer to his replacement. We have three very good candidates vying for the Republican governor nomination. All have strong credentials to replace McConnell. The two losers could use this race to prepare them.
Comer is a farmer from the next county over from me, a rural county in south central Kentucky. He is as close to a citizen legislator as you will ever meet. He does not have a reputation as a McConnell crony, but I do not have all of the inside info. Could be.

I do not know Comer personally, but he is from the legislative district next to mine, the county next door. He is from a rural county in a rural district.
