Axios is positioning this announcement as FTX asking for political donations to be returned. However, the request is realistically from the FTX debtors.
(Via Axios) – Bankrupt crypto exchange FTX is sending notices to former donor recipients asking for the donated funds to be returned, the company said in a press release Sunday.
Why it matters: Former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried and FTX Digital Markets Co-CEO Ryan Salame were two of the largest political donors during the last election cycle. Now the company’s debtors want the money back.

- Bankman-Fried primarily backed Democrats and was the party’s second-largest donor last cycle with around $37 million in contributions.
- Salame’s $19 million to Republicans made him the party’s 10th largest donor.

Additionally, the Twitter Account “Unusual Whales” which tracks and researches financial transactions, has published the first list I have seen that makes it easy to see who FTX donated to. The list IS HERE and is alphabetized.

I assume all of these folks received Donations. Is that just confirming that, and perhaps the demand to return letter has not been sent yet?
Donated means they launder dirty money to charities that then send ‘clean’ money back to the campaign or PAC via legal donations.
I think that it means that they can donate the money to a registered charity. They are probably busy setting up a charity immediately so that they can transfer the money to their new charity.

Almost 40% of Congress was in on this crystal clear money laundering operation, and the split is almost right down the middle between R & D. If any of the ones not on the list got funds from umbrella groups, I would consider them getting funds from FTX directly. I am interested the ryan salame issue with the repuke. Two people from AR involved…maybe another one or two…but these are from my area of the state: John Boozman and Steve Womack. Both heavy duty rinos. John is a nice man, just not brave. Womack is a jerk, rino, climber. Both are from within 30 miles of my home…we tried to primary John, but the friends of John won out. Steve did not have a primary run in our district.

Sure the states can and should do that. But they won’t, for a similar reason that neither you nor I nor 99% of the working population won’t ask our bosses to reduce our paychecks. Politicians consider campaign donations as income, they think they deserve it. So they all structure their high-on-the-hog lifestyles around that income. It’s illegal as hell, but they all learn quickly how to do it and avoid being caught, especially by never really attacking the Swamp.
Donate to local candidates. Do not let the Club decide where to spend your money. Mega Donors are not representative of all of us.
