Appearing on CBS Face the Nation today, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan proudly boasted of the $15 billion in weapons the U.S. has shipped into Ukraine, while restating the official position of the Biden administration that the U.S. will never permit Russia to hold the eastern part of our proxy state.
Ukraine is to the United States as North Korea is to China. WATCH:
[Transcript] – MARGARET BRENNAN: We turn now to White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan. Good morning to you, Jake. Thank you for joining us.
NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR JAKE SULLIVAN: Thanks for having me.
MARGARET BRENNAN: President Zelenskyy told us that if this annexation happens, it will make diplomatic talks with Vladimir Putin impossible. They need artillery in Ukraine, he says, more air defense systems and tanks. Will they get it? And how significant of an escalation is this?
SULLIVAN: Well, Margaret, not only will they get it, but they’ve been getting it. The United States at this point alone has provided more than $15 billion in weapons, and that’s included air defense systems, hundreds of artillery pieces, hundreds of thousands, if not millions of rounds of artillery. And we facilitated the transfer of tanks from NATO allies who have the Soviet era tanks that the Ukrainians have trained on, we will continue to do all of that. As President Biden made clear on Friday, nothing that Russia has done with this mobilization of troops, with the sham referenda in the occupied regions, is going to deter us from providing Ukraine with the necessary means and technologies they need to defend themselves. And what Putin has done is not exactly a sign of strength or confidence, frankly, it’s a sign that they’re struggling badly on the Russian side. And we’re going to help the Ukrainians be able to take advantage of the gains they’ve made, and to continue to push back against the Russian forces that are brutally occupying portions of their country.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Yesterday, Putin replaced one of the top logistics generals with a man who’s known as “the Butcher of Mariupol.” Are we seeing the beginning of the collapse of the Russian army?
SULLIVAN: I think it’s too soon to make comprehensive predictions like that. I think what we are seeing are signs of unbelievable struggle among the Russians, you’ve got low morale, where the soldiers don’t want to fight. And who can blame them because they want no part of Putin’s war of conquest in their neighboring country. You’ve got Russia having depleted its stores of prec- precision guided munitions. You’ve got Russia disorganized and losing territory, to a capable Ukrainian force. And you’ve got a huge amount of infighting among the Russian military leadership, and now the blame game has started to include these replacements. So Russia is struggling, but Russia still remains a dangerous foe, and capable of great brutality, as we’ve seen with these mass graves outside of Izium. So we continue to take that threat seriously. And we continue to see our obligation, being providing Ukraine all that it needs to be able to effectively defend itself and defend its country and defend its freedom. That’s what we’re intent on doing. And we are not taking our eye off the ball.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Vladimir Putin will carry out this annexation of eastern Ukraine within the next few days. If Russia is expanding its nuclear umbrella over this part of the country. Does that put the US in more direct conflict with Russia? And does a nuclear weapon being used there, p-put Russia in conflict directly with the US and NATO?
SULLIVAN: We have been crystal clear up to and including President Biden that we will not recognize the sham referenda, they in no way represent the will of the Ukrainian people. And we will treat this territory for what it is – Ukrainian territory, not Russian territory. And we will continue to support the Ukrainians as they seek to deoccupy this territory. So we’ve been clear, we’re not going to stop or slow down our support to the Ukrainians, no matter what Putin tries to do with these-these fake elections and fake referenda and annexation. Now, when it comes to the question of nuclear use, President Putin’s been waving around the nuclear card at various points through this conflict the last few days are not the first time–

MARGARET BRENNAN: –But he hasn’t been as cornered as he is now.
SULLIVAN: It’s true, and it is a matter that we have to take deadly seriously because it is a matter of paramount seriousness – the possible use of nuclear weapons for the first time since the Second World War. We have communicated directly, privately, at very high levels to the Kremlin, that any use of nuclear weapons will be met with catastrophic consequences for Russia, that the United States in our allies will respond decisively. And we have been clear and specific about what that will entail. We have, in public, been equally clear, as a matter of principle, that the United States will respond decisively if Russia uses nuclear weapons and that we will continue to support Ukraine in its efforts to defend its country and defend its democracy.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Russia has been talking about this nuclear power plant rather than nuclear weapons just for the past 24 hours. Where does that fall? Is this an escalating threat?
SULLIVAN: So, for your viewers, there is a nuclear power plant that is in Russian occupied portions of Ukraine. It has been put into cold shutdown to make it less likely that there’s some kind of catastrophic incident at the plant. It is actually still being operated by the Ukrainian operators who are essentially at gunpoint from the Russian occupying forces. And the Russians have been consistently implying that there may be some kind of accident at this plant. We’ve been working with the International Atomic Energy Agency and with Ukrainian energy regulators to try to make sure that there is no threat posed by a meltdown or something else from the plant. We will continue to do that, but it’s something we all have to keep a close eye on.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Jake, you’re a busy man watching the world right now. There’s a lot I want to ask you, but I have to ask you about Iran. And these protests led by women after the death of this 22-year-old woman who didn’t have her hair covered properly in the view of the morality police. She died. How significant is this, and is it making you reassess the offer you put on the table to lift sanctions on Iran in regard to its nuclear program?
SULLIVAN: Well, first, Margaret, the fact that we are in negotiations with Iran on its nuclear program is in no way impacting our willingness and our vehemence in speaking out about what is happening on the streets of Iran. President Biden went to the floor of the UN General Assembly and said that we stand with the brave citizens and the brave women of Iran as they stand for their rights and their dignity. We have in fact taken tangible steps to sanction those morality police –

We’ve taken steps to make it easier for Iranians to be able to get access to the internet and access to communications technologies that will allow them to talk to one another and to talk to the world. MARGARET BRENNAN: – I was asking you, though, about the offer to lift sanctions off of Iran in regard to its nuclear program, because that would allow for the regime to have a financial lifeline.
SULLIVAN: Well, I think it’s important for everyone to understand that at the height of the Cold War, as Ronald Reagan was calling the Soviet Union “the evil empire” –

SULLIVAN: – he was also negotiating an arms control with Russia. So that’s– that is what we’re talking about here. We’re talking about diplomacy to prevent Iran from ever getting a nuclear weapon. If we can succeed in that effort, and we are determined to succeed in that effort, the world America and our allies will be safer. And that will not stop us in any way from pushing back and speaking out on Iran’s brutal repression of its citizens and its women. We can and will do both.

Russia will never let Ukraine go!
You need to clarify, Russia is fighting for it’s very survival as a nation. NATO, which may have once had a noble purpose has transformed into something pernicious and evil, run by zealots and grifters. It needs to be abolished when this is over.
More accurately, the US and the collective West “will never let Ukraine go” There are too many meddling Deep State hands in the pot. They never thought this through to the end, no plan B. They are backed into a corner of their own making and these are muted attempts at lashing out. Either push Putin out or the networks and scams they’ve been constructing for a decade or more come to an abrupt end and more alarmingly they risk exposure and backlash. Consequences have never been on their horizon before.
Throwing money at this conflict just reeks of desperation. It’s scary just how one-tracked, singleminded, unrelenting, dead set they are in interviews like this. Deep State dreams of a unipolar hegemony are starting to look like they may unravel. There is precedent for regions declaring their independence with Kosovo from Serbia. These referendums in the 4 Ukraine provinces have been in the works for years and they are legal. My guess is that Putin solidified pending recognition of the results with with regional economic allies at the recent SCO meeting.

”Russia is fighting for its very survival as a nation.” This is an almost deranged view of what has happened in Ukraine, Syria, Venezuela and the other places across the globe where Russia has reached to extend their influenced, hegemon and power. The fact that Russia’s controlling elite opted to abort the Westernization that had put them on the path to the diversification of their economy away from an almost primitive reliance on commodities in the early 90s was not NATOs fault or anyone’s but Russia’s. The corruption and greed that created the oligarch class and stole the resources of the nation for a small group of former ministers and apparatchik was not born in any Deep State or CIA planing sessions. I was there, working for a Western conglomerate, attempting to invest billions in manufacturing and value-added businesses that would have brought an entirely new kind of integrated prosperity to Russia, and we were stymied at every front by the avarice and stupidity of the former Soviets that had tunneled into every part of the economy as Gorbachev pursued an unrealistic dream.
The selection of Putin to rule this gangster nation was the apotheosis of denial, the xenophobic drive to blame “the other” for the deep faults in Russian thinking and power. Embracing the demented and insular economic philosophy of Ilyin, Russia was set on the path to failure. Look at the path of the former Soviet Republics that broke free of Russian influence- their growth has doubled and trebled Russia’s, and largely without the huge spending on military and defense.
NATO has NEVER been a threat to RUSSIA. Unless one takes the intellectually and morally dishonest step to claim acting as a defense against its revanchism and the imperialist impulse is a threat to a nation, NATO in no way stood as an obstacle to Russia’s development and blossoming into a great global power and economic dynamo.
While the barons of the West certainly wanted their share of Russia’s development, in exchange for their investment, the attempt to pawn off Russia’s sad path to totalitarian militarism and mobsterism on those who would have turned Russia into a successful and responsible global partner is preposterous. That Putin saw the dead end he had turned into, and chose to use Ukraine as his off ramp to “accretive growth” should not have been unexpected in the West. Russia never honored the 1991 referendum, and flowed agents provocateur, mercenaries and activists into Donbas, finally devolving to a decade of war and Maidan. My family and friends in Ukraine are no Deep State dreamers. They want only to be free of Russia and its endless destabilization, theivery and corruption.
93% of Donbas voted for independence from Russia in the referendum, substantially higher than the rest of Ukraine. That inconvenient fact will be ignored by the revisionists, and the subsequent shams and frauds to attempt to justify the theft of Ukrainian territory an resources at the tip of nuclear missiles will no doubt be celebrated by those who never had skin in the game.

After the Euro Maidan in 2014 there was a referendum to break from Ukraine which was greeted by tanks rolling in during VE Day celebrations. Then came the 8 years of shelling as NATO trained Ukrainian troops rotated in and out of the front. It can be argued Ukrainian troops are the best trained NATO troops. Ambassador Pyatt made YouTube videos about this training. The US special forces have been training Ukrainian troops in Colorado.

Please bare with me. I just watched a short Youtube video on the Drake equation. It was developed by a scientist in the 60’s for the SETI program on calculating the probability of intelligent life in our galaxy by identifying particular parameters and assigning them values. They are; how many stars form of the right mass and stability, how many have planets, how many planets are in the suitable-for-life temperature zone with water , the fraction that do develop life, the fraction of those that develop intelligent life, the fraction that become technologically advanced. The last factor, and an important one in the equation is the length of time that civilization lasts.
With time we are able to get increasingly good estimates of the first three parameters. They are low. When it comes to life forming we get in the realm of educated guesses. If life, intelligence and technology are all low, then the probability of the existence of other advanced civilizations is almost zero. If we set these three to a value of 1, that is, if the conditions are right, life does form, it will eventually develop intelligence and become technologically advanced. In that case we calculate about 9 civilizations in a galaxy of 200 billion stars.
However, if civilizations are resilient, some how avoid disaster, be it from natural ones or self-inflicted and last for millions, even billions of years, then the 9 civilizations blossoms to 9 million civilizations.
It got me thinking how long humanity will last, especially with reckless, selfish, narcissists always floating to the top, fooking everything up for the rest of us. From big pharma to perverts teaching our kids, to the pricks running the show in Ukraine, I don’t see how our civilization will ever make it for the long haul. Something in human nature would have to change. While we try to rid our ranks of these psychopaths, get right with your spouse, your family, your friends, your community and particularly your maker and live in peace with yourself.

Modern warfare is basically a battle of manufacturing, not weaponry. And NATO/USA/EU, for all their pomp and circumstance, would not win a war with Russia if it were actually stupid enough to fight one.

Neither has Putin humiliated and persecuted the cohort of the military that has always, always been the decisive part and taken the sacrifice to save the nation. This is starting to look like more than a “proxy” war with Ukrainian Troops armed with Western Systems.
The laundry lists of equipment are essentially the TO&E of Western (NATO) Military Units. The amounts of equipment being sent far exceeds the ability of Ukrainian Forces to effectively absorb. The near 180 degree turn about of Ukrainian Forces performance and capability indicates there are now whole company+sized elements manned by “Western Volunteers” (NATO Troops in “disguise”) forming the operational operational core of the Ukrainian Forces. The battles so far are not those fought by the 100,000’s of troops historians visualized from WWII but by much, much smaller units whereby company+ sized elements of well-trained professional troops have impacts far beyond the numbers.
NATO troops are slowly moving beyond being the command elements of major air defense, surface to surface weapons (artillery & missiles). This is a major escalation of the from the NATO “officer-ed” units commanded by a NATO Central command in Kiev, to outright confrontation with NATO troops as the spearhead.
About 2-weeks ago, a statement by President Putin and his foreign minster made into the US & EU Media, referring to a NATO lead offensive and being under attack by NATO…those stories stopped.
About 3 months ago there stories of Company-Battalion sized elements of Polish Troops wanting to “volunteer” and being shifted to key locations along the lines near Kharkov. There were other NATO members getting ready to send similarly organized “volunteers”. The stories stopped.
The nuclear plant they spoke of is in COLD shut down. It is shut down. No fission is going on This means if there is some sort of claim of “meltdown” or “out of control reaction resulting in nuclear explosion” you can be 100% guaranteed that it’s the US nuking the plant and killing hundreds of thousands of people.
DO NOT be fooled into thinking that it was an accident or caused by Russia.
