Mid-August CTH noted, “amid all of the headline warnings about inflation and prices of essential products, CTH notes that if we are to continue waiting about six months, we would see a massive backlog of unsold goods and as a consequence the prices of non-essential durable goods would begin a rapid decline. That exact scenario is about to unfold.” {link}
Today the world’s second largest appliance manufacturer, Electrolux, announced a collapse of corporate earnings -the result of the western alliance economic contraction- leading to major cost cutting and future incentive programs. [Announcement Link, emphasis mine]
(Electrolux) – […] Market demand for core appliances in Europe and the US so far in the third quarter is estimated to have decreased at a significantly accelerated pace compared with the second quarter, driven by the impact of high inflation on consumer durables purchases and low consumer confidence. High retailer inventory levels have amplified the impact of the slowdown in consumer demand.
In combination with supply chain imbalances resulting in significant production inefficiencies and increased costs, the third quarter earnings for the Group are expected to decline significantly compared to the second quarter 2022 also excluding the one-time cost to exit the Russia market. This has been driven mainly by Europe and North America. Business Area North America is expected to report an operating loss in the third quarter exceeding the loss in the second quarter.
Since market demand for 2023 is expected to continue to be weak in both regions, the Board has today decided to initiate a Group-wide cost reduction program addressing both variable and structural costs. The program, which starts immediately, will focus on reducing variable costs, with special attention to eliminating cost inefficiencies in our supply chain and production. The structural cost reductions will primarily take place in Europe and North America. (more)
Keep in mind, this is not necessarily a collapse of total global economic activity; what we are seeing is a collapse of western nation economic activity that is impacting the rest of the world. A great economic fracturing is taking place as the western nations intentionally shrink their economy. The supplier nations are feeling the consequences.
Keep in mind, South Korean factory output is now negative (electronics etc). European factory output is now negative (industrial equipment). Japanese factory output has dropped dramatically, and U.S. factory output has stalled. All of these issues overlay the statements by Maersk that shipping is not needed.
The western economies are contracting in response to the collective energy policies of the Build Back Better climate change agenda, and the high cost of energy that comes from stopping energy production.
Energy production in western nations has been slowed or stopped (Build Back Better). Western nation inflation is being driven by higher energy costs as a result of less energy products being produced, oil, coal, gas. Western banking groups have raised interest rates to slow down the economic engines to meet the drop in energy production.
All of this is being done with intent, purpose and control. This is a managed decline.

Still on my way to jail, libs! It’s taking some time, BUT WE’RE SAVING THE ENVIRONMENT!!!
Thank you Patience! I needed a laugh.
😝😎😅
Perfect.
Kills 2 birds with 1 stone. 😂
Dear God in Heaven,
Please protect President Donald Trump … until your Perfect Son, Jesus Christ, returns … he’s all WeThePeople have. Amen
Stick it to Putin! No more appliances!
I don’t know how I missed your hilarious comment the first time I read through from the top. 🙂
At PG&E’s spiking electrical prices … the wife and I are hanging out our laundry to dry on the clothes line. In our FRONT yard so all my leftist neighbors get the full tenement experience.
PG& E may set your clothes lines on fire due to their poorly maintained equipment.
Or maybe set the close line on fire in a friendly protest!
Fooling the people 24/7 ( except here 🙂 )
*Check out this New York Times headline from 2007 right before financial crash. “Fed Chairman projects soft landing for U.S. economy.” It’s a fools paradise.
We live in a cloud of outright lies…..
“Let me conclude by stating S&P does not anticipate
pervasive negative rating actions on financial institutions due to rising credit stresses in the subprime mortgage sector…”
~ Susan Barnes, managing director, S&P Rating Services, 4/17/07
Not all lies are equal. The busting of the real estate bubble caused a financial crisis mainly due to an accounting change requiring what is known as mark to market or carrying financial assets on your balance sheet at market value instead of book value. It was a nice idea is some ways but, proved disastrous in this case as market values of securities back by mortgages on real property often fell to less than 20 cents on the dollar while the real estate itself backing the security only fell perhaps 20 percent or less depending on the areas, just talking average numbers. Even in a crisis, property is never worth nothing, and the repeal of that silly rule change essentially recapitalized everything back to somewhere closer to reality and the crisis was forgotten and the Federal Reserve owns lots and lots of mortgage-backed securities. Susan at least recognized rising credit stresses in the sector but, what was she supposed to do about it. This was caused by politicians through the quasi-governmental organizations that set mortgage credit policy in this country and cheered on and covered by democratic congress critters galore. Remember when Maxine said Frankie was doing a marvelous job at Fannie Mae. Fed chairmen do not have magic wands. They can buy stuff if necessary and they can sell it. They can give interviews. They don’t get to make the laws businesses and financial institutions and everybody has to deal with and they cannot predict what fickle agenda driven presidents can do to an economy but, only react to it as best they can. In the end, they are people with political views also and sometimes agendas larger than their capitalist selves.
“Even in a crisis, property is never worth nothing,”
LOL! Tell that one to people who once owned nice houses in Detroit.
Well they are worth a few thousand. The real problem is the property taxes are much higher than the worth of the property lol
1. Obama was slipping in the polls against McCain & Palin as truths about the Soros Puppet & Mooch oozed out.
2. Schumer sent letters to two California Banks questioning their financial stability in light of the looming “sub-prime mortgage” issue.
3. The LA Times magically acquired copies of the letters … printed them.
4. Instantly initiating a panicked Run on the banks – which spread across the country as the Fannie/Freddie politically created nightmare became apparent … the USA Market collapsed … followed by the World Market collapsed
5. Obama was elected.
6. Bush43 signed Crap Sandwich I
7. Another “Mission Accomplished” coincidence.
Like anyone believes anything a government operative says anymore.
There’s only one way to stop overheated inflation. Recession.
We have both.
There has actually been a way out for many years, but I’m not sure this US government with all three branches of government totally compromised by foreign entities and foreign governments compromised by the same will pull the trigger.
Yellen is not now and never was qualified to be head of the Fed, which should be abolished for causing this whole mess in the first place.
I’ve always wondered how many RINORATS lost that day? My guess … the insider traders, I mean, Congress – knew – and did whatever insider criminals do to protect their financials.
Just in time, I’m now in the market for a new washer.
Yep, we delayed buying because prices got so high. Prices have crashed, but we’re going to let it free fall. Those corporate $&@?!ers deserve it for the covid he’ll they put us all through.
Keep your eye on inventory available.
Component parts shortages (foreign) + delivery challenges (domestic) = zero-ing out of retail inventory now.
We just bought new laundry equipment and a dishwasher. I waited as long as possible. Not one among the three was a youngster. It would have cost a ridiculous sum to repair the two pieces that were limping, so we pulled the trigger and replaced all three. Hard water region. Appliances that channel / use water take a beating – even with high quality H2O softener equipment.
I bought a Maytag laundry set bc it had the desired features, and both pieces are assembled in the U.S – so at least a partial win for the Home Team. Dryers were in stock but the washer was the last one in my region for this major retailer – whose big box store is about 2 miles down the road.
The dishwasher is a foreigner, “German engineered”. Excellent reputation. Both our sons – with lots of dishwashing in their busy households – highly recommended the brand. I purchased the last one in stock.
Here’s the kicker. Replacement inventory of the purchased equipment described above is not expected until sometime in 2023. For the dishwasher brand, re-supply is not expected until later in 2023 – roughly a year from now.
P.S. I should have said this particular washer model was the last one in stock in my store; in my region. For the laundry equipment purchases I only looked at two brands seriously. There was a full complement of brands / makes / models “on the floor”, but until the employee checks the stock in the back room – and phones the other stores in the area – you won’t be assured of availability.
For now, there is inventory in most major appliances, but you may not find the brand / model that you intend to buy. I saw very few 36″ size refrigerators on the floor. There were some 33″ (my size due to location in my kitchen), and many freezers of various sizes: upright and chest styles.
If you need to purchase in the near future, I would do my brand homework and check for availability now. Law-away would hold the piece for you.
Try to buy when Trump’s back in office.
Guess I better dig out the washboard because that ain’t gonna happen
Electrolux????…last time I heard that name was vacuum cleaners 40 50 years ago?
They make GE appliances and probably other brands throughout the West.
No, they make Frigidaire. GE appliance was sold to the Chinese (Haier).
Stevie “Guitar” Miller had a song or intro called “Electrolux Imbroglio”.
Electrolux makes the Frigidaire brand, for one.
We actually bought a gorge Electrolux washer/dryer set about 4 years ago. We didn’t know either but they’re fantastic products and another reason this article is so disturbing.
I hope you find a really good one for a really good price.
My aging Kenmores are still holding up…yay!
Ours, too! Washer and dryer purchased 1977, and microwave oven purchased in the 1980s.
Never one problem with the oven, and my husband has replaced only a couple of small parts on the laundry machines…that was back when he could get a needed part from Sears or an appliance parts store in our area.
Laundromat it for a bit. Home Depot, Lowes, and others are getting “late inventory bloat” and many consumers have closed their wallets and/or decided that food + a roof over their heads + possibly fuel to work and back beats an overpriced appliance with too many bells and whistles. The big box appliance folks will HAVE TO have huge sales to maintain any cash flow.
January appliance sales should be really low priced this year!! One can hope anyway!
The best time to buy appliances is November, especially if you are looking for kitchen suites (refrigerator, range, dishwasher, microwave) and laundry products. The retailers call it “The Black Friday Sale,” but it lasts the whole month. You will get deeper discounts than at any other time of the year and they’ll usually have some additional savings if you buy 2 or more appliances at the same time. The discounts haven’t been as good for the last couple of years as they were pre-Wu Flu, but if inventories are stacking up now, they may get back to the 40% range they were before.
You’re going to need some windmills, to power that sucker…
Just bought one. High end Samsung over $500 off sticker.
Hopefully, you get 5 years use out of it. They aren’t lasting long from what I hear.
Our long time, old school appliance repairman said to stick with Samsung or LG.
Almost all of Whirlpool and its subsidiary brands are made in Mexico. 8 out of 12 N. American factories are there
What used to be the awesome German-American Friedrich AC window units are made in MX. And they have just gone to hell. Used to be, growing in hot SC Texas, those things ran for 20-25 years with no probs, even in a heat wave.
Awful now.
Samsung or LG is what we have heard, should we need to replace.
My Samsung is the WORST I have ever owned. Would not buy another.
I have LG washer and dryer. They are 6 years old, no problems so far. I do like them.
I had originally ordered Whirlpool. The washing machine arrived, did not work. It needed a new drum. The delivery man said they were seeing a lot of that problem. The dryer arrived pre-dented. I was very disappointed. So I bought the LG. 🤷♀️
Funny ours said just the opposite!
I just trashed a Samsung front loader. The door gasket shredded after 7 years. A new door gasket was $138. Tried to fix it myself. You had to disassemble half the washer. When I put it back together it wouldn’t balance correctly and the gasket kept coming off.
I had an appliance repair guy come out, he wanted $450 to fix it. Labor only.
So I bought a 3yo washer off Craigslist for $225 and it’s running as it should.
The multinationals can suck it, as far as I’m concerned. I’m not buying their overpriced unrepairable crap. My next washer will be a wringer washer like my grandmother had. It lasted more than her entire life, about 80 years, as it was her mother’s before her.
I have a Samsung high end Washer and Dryer. They are just over 5 years old and the washer has rusted out.
I have a high-end Samsung that I bought 10 years ago. No problems so far.
Good luck if you’re looking for a top-loader that isn’t “reduced water”.

The deficit will now explode.
But not a very well MANAGED decline…..
Like most idiots playing with fire, the leftists will eventually get burned by their arrogance and stupidity.
Trouble is, so will the rest of us.
Americans spent more on taxes ($16,795) that food, healthcare and clothing combined.($15,495) in 2021 according to BLS.
https://reason.com/2022/09/12/americans-spent-more-on-taxes-last-year-than-on-food-health-care-education-and-clothing-combined/
This is why you have to have 2 earners in a family.
In 1950, the average family of four paid 2% of their income in taxes, and almost nothing in state & local.
S & L taxes have risen 5X the rate of fed taxes, and they stick property owners with high-cost school costs. We are just milk cows for them.
I told the tax people that they’d have to tell me the # of enrolled children of illegals, and that I would deduct their cost of education from my tax bill, and refuse to pay it.
The clerks were flabbergasted that I didn’t feel responsible to pay for the parasitic spawn out of my own pocket.
Stupid, stupid.
Our school taxes keep going up and up due to the cost of educating ELL students..we pay almost 7000 a year on a house assessed at 170000..
Here me out.
I have some disposable income. Pa does good, at Dunder-Mifflin. Not much, but a good decent amount monthly.
I usually spend it on the grandchildren, but mostly on family gatherings and holidays. Food, alcohol and decorations and such.
I go to Home Goods, Walmart and BJ’S, a lot, for these events and holidays. But everything is old and stale, to me or just maybe we can’t trust the economy to just buy stuff. But nothing is new or moving.
No one has much of anything in their cart, except because I only comprehend english, I don’t understand those other customers, who have bedding, tv’s and FOOD, FOOD, FOOD., in their carts. I see it with my own eyes and ears.
My age tells a lot. My grown adult children have no problem, going into debt. But because I pay for stuff, I may be enabling them to be oblivious to what is happening around them.
I haven’t bought much in these last 6 months, because there is nothing to buy. Trust me, I would buy it.
The stores look like the Goodwill. A mash up of 4 seasons. Sloppy and unorganized.
But I see full carriages of home stuff for others.
Took over 1 bill for my daughter and her husband. Counseled them in getting rid of debt as quickly as possible. They were so embarrassed to ask for help and have really been doing a good job of clearing the debt. I tend to buy Christmas from local small vendors, make things and generally stay out of big box stores. The big hurt is coming and it’s going to be very very uncomfortable for a lot of people. Time to scale back where possible. Hunker down peeps!
A teen relative living in The Dakotas attends a high school where Dave Ramsay is part of their curriculum. Totally approve of this wise choice by the administrators
My husband and I took those classes through church. My daughter and her husband went and they were pretty good about it. Slipped off the bandwagon but back on now. We also taught that class one year. I think every senior in High School should have to go through it as well.
Our entire family has done (and does) Dave Ramsey classes/principles. So helpful.
That’s awesome! We follow Dave Ramsey’s advice and we’re thankful for it.
Imagine how much better-off the American people if they all followed Dave Ramsey’s advice?
Those debt purveyors are so persuasive…Just suck people dry.
Why does corporate America, which employs the lions share of Americans, including Treepers, run on debt, often overwhelming debt? We know government runs on debt, breathtaking debt.
Why do people who work in such environments and benefit from them preach one thing and practice another to profit for themselves?
Why did people run up debt prior to the last crash then walk away from it? Corporations and individuals? Who did the taxpayers bail out and who personally benefited from that?
Does someone who kills themselves to stay out of debt and/or eliminate debt in an environment where government and fascist corporate fiat attacks them die any better, more righteously?
I’ve had my fill with these f8cking cretins. I’m gonna die with a smile on my face. It’s gonna be fun.
That’s truly wonderful! Dave is a great influence!
Dave Ramsey…His program is so good.
I purchased many Christmas gifts last year from sellers on Etsy: a talented lady who makes doll clothes for our youngest granddaughter’s doll, sellers who craft earrings for our 3 teenaged granddaughters, unique T-shirts for our grandsons. Such a large array and price range to choose from there, too.
Do you have grandchildren? Buy books for them. Check out abebooks for new and like new copies of books you first spotted on Amazon or other chain stores. You can save a lot of money, and support small bookshops that are still in business across the USA.
I collect cookbooks and particularly like Ina Gartan’s. However, they are
expensive in hardcover. Therefore, I purchase those books from a website
called Alibris. Great savings!
A group if thrift stores in Knoxville, TN (KARM) reportedly hired an administrator who has experience with an antiques business. This person has set up artistic displays that make the sale items more attractive than I am used to seeing in thrift stores.
I went to visit at the insistence of a friend who had noticed the change. “you have GOT to see thr place settings! Aren’t they beautiful? Just like Dillard’s”
Thrift stores have untapped potential
There is a thrift store in Ocala FL like that..I believe it’s run by a local hospice organization..
I’m wondering where you life. I’ve Sen no stores in my area (eastern Midwest) that look like that.
…where you live. (Sorry.)
Huh? All good where we live. A bit pricey.
Was in Wally World today and they have some cute fall florals…smallish…and the shelf they were on showed a price of 22.98.
I put it right back on the shelf as a matter of principle.
Funny how the candy shortage we were going to have for Halloween? The displays up front that used to have batteries have all been replaced with Halloween candy. My store has so much candy, the dentists have got to be joyous!
My church recently tried to get all of us to create a welcome basket of cleaning and kitchen supplies for people who were allegedly getting their lives together. There was little support as most felt it was for the illegals being resettled in our communities here.
<My store has so much candy, the dentists have got to be joyous!>
The dentists are happy…
The kids get demolarized 🙂
I recall reading an article a few years ago that stated the
federal government was paying churches hundreds of
millions of dollars to take care of refugees.
I was in Arizona at a Catholic Church Sunday mass,
when the priest put on his spiel of how we should be
donating to help these refugees. It made me so angry.
Perhaps its just me, however, I feel that everything
is becoming a scam these days.
Ann Corcoran used to publish on WordPress until WP kicked her off. Her work regarding the 30+ charities in the US make a great deal of money resettling illegals was excellent and yet nothing has changed. She also reported on crimes committed by new immigrants such as the fellow in Texas who smothered elders in assisted living or nursing homes in order to steal their valuables…Billy Che….something I can’t remember now. A criminal from Africa I think. Covid brain is real here in my head.
Ma Kettle, you’re from The People’s Republik of Massachusetts, yes? So am I. I’d move if the kids and grands would come along also! Pray HARD before doing anything people. Be patient people! Our Father loves us SO Very Much! Just be sure you hear Him Correctly! Bless you all, be still and hear HIS VOICE! Come soon LORD JESUS!!!
Amen
I know exactly that of which you speak.
I have hummingbirds here….the ruby throats have left, the black chinned and annas have moved in for the winter…..more than I could ever imagine. It is like I went from hurricane alley for the summer to hummingbird alley for the winter coming …..so strange.
I felt guilty for buying more feeders and nectar concentrate for myself and my neighbor. Those hummingbirds sure do drink a lot.
I also bought yarn…..for my elderly neighbor (and best friend) to crochet blankets for my mom and myself. My neighbor had a stroke 7 years ago…….but she can still make two crochet needles smoke. 😉 She loves to crochet.
I was almost crying in the yarn store. My neighbor was so excited to show me the yarn aisles. There were other older ladies sitting at tables looking through books of some sort , they looked excited. Some ladies were having fabric cut. Some had canes or walkers. NO YOUNG PEOPLE. Only the older ladies, with knowledge to offer….just like my neighbor.
Oh yeah, did I remember to mention that I felt guilty for the yarn purchase also.
I don’t know how to cook so my meals are made by my neighbor. I would do anything to see her smile. So hummingbird food and yarn it is.
Instead of feeling guilty, I should feel blessed to be able to make those purchases. Who would ever think bird nectar and yarn would turn into such inner turmoil. Strange times indeed.
But…..it really is about the little things. Don’t sweat the small things and don’t pet the sweaty things.
Sorry for the long post, which I really don’t normally do. I suppose your post prompted me to address these strange times ….. In my small village.
LOVED- “but she can still make two crochet needles smoke.”
Thank you for sharing.
It’s true, it’s true!!
We have been besties for 40ish years.
Thanks Ma Kettle.
Dunder-Mifflin?
Consider increasing your budget for alcohol. You’ll be just fine.
I think it’s partly due to inflation and partly due to declining home sales. When you buy a new home, if you don’t negotiate buying the seller’s w&d then you buy new ones, but home sales have had a big decline recently so there’s an important part of the w&d market gone. In that group are the young first-time home buyers who aren’t buying homes now because of inflation, inflated home prices, and high mortgage rates.
I’m currently in the market for a house, so I don’t think that is true. There are less homes being listed and I am having a difficult time finding one but most house are pending pretty fast is priced reasonably
The real estate market depends also on the area.
Some areas are slow and homes do not move at all and some areas are on fire.
Here where we live homes are barely listed when they sell.
Many do not even make it to the open market and sell before, if some one finds out that the owners are even thinking of selling they get many many offers.
Markets in real estate differ widely through out the country.
No. The housing sales really are down considerably. Now maybe you’re in a pocket that is unaffected, or maybe you’re in an area where fewer people are selling so the supply is low.
Existing home sales in the US declined 5.9% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.81 million in July of 2022, the lowest since May of 2020 and below market expectations of 4.89 million. Sales declined for a sixth consecutive month, reflecting the impact of the mortgage rate peak of 6% in early June.

Headlines:
DC-area home sales fall more than 25%
Home sales drop by as much as 38% in Southern California
Housing Market Faces Growing Risk Of Multi-Year Collapse As New Home Construction Craters
Illinois: home sales were down 22.6% year-over-year, in Chicago there was a 25.6% decrease
Michigan: July sales were down 15.% year-over-year
Even Florida is cooling. Every state and large metro area I checked had substantial declines. I didn’t check all 50 states or every metro area, I looked at maybe 20 combined.
And I just read a recent poll, 1 in 4 Millennials say they’re “forever renters,” giving up on home ownership
Then there is Hawaii (Up over 20%):
Honolulu Real Estate Market 2022 Overview
Yes the home values are up, but look at home sales. I don’t have the percentage handy but I just read that in Hawaii home sales have decreased each month this year. Check it out.
Many who bought homes during the lockdown are now, or will soon be, upside down. We know what happens to them if the job market takes a dive.
Can’t wait for it to happen in Mexifornia. 1 man 2 big dogs looking for home to rent with yard on the cheap!
I hope they didn’t take out adjustable rate mortgages. And I hope they didn’t buy the homes to flip them.
Not to mention, the IRS is now arming agents, so if you don’t pay your taxes on time, they are gearing up to come in and confiscate everything you own.
With the IRS, you’re guilty until you can prove, to their satisfaction, you’re innocent.
I hope they do. Seriously. I also hope they arbitrarily target specific groups like they did during Lerner’s regime. Let’s get to it. Only human.
Our previous neighbors bought the house next door 4 years ago for $140k. Sold it a year ago for $399k to a nice family who can’t afford the tax increases. Now the value is dropping drastically. They are stuck!
What’s the purpose in even buying a new stove in today’s world …
Soon the Green Cult in the US will be no different than in the EU. If they have their way, 19c will be the max temperature you can turn your oven up to, not just the thermostat.
I was just thinking that great looking washer at the top of Sundance’s article probably has a credit card reader, if you want more than 5 drops of water you have to pay for it.
Either that or the “Snitch Squad” will inform the local authorities of the “excessive water” violation:
“Step away from washer, turn around, and put your hands on your head !!!”
Funny you said that. The newest condo building in my area has separately metered water. Never seen that before.
Seriously ?
The cost of energy simply drives changes in wages, cost of production and inflation. Lower energy costs causes economic booms as seen under Trump while higher energy costs causes recessions and depressions as seen under Nixon, Carter, Obama and now Biden. Energy costs increases are actually more detrimental to production “cost of goods” than “cost of labor” especially in the days of automation and robotics.
Either Biden and his team are the dumbest people in the world of economics or they willfully and knowingly destroyed the US economy and defrauded all US citizens as acts of treason in concert with foreign entities at war with the United States.
Important to note, one doesn’t need to use an armed military force or be a “country” to be at war. While some might point at the CCP, WEF fits that description too.
The Biden team acted willfully against the interests of America.
Exactly. They are NOT dumb. They are pursuing these policies on purpose.
Their goal is the destruction of the Middle Class.
And America takes it like a champ.
I agree
the followers are dumb, however, the leaders of the demise of America
are very smart and manipulative.
They used covid policies that specifically targeted the service industry.
Any remnant of that industry will be leveled by high energy prices.
Not an accident.
WoooHooo!!! all the stuff I want to buy is going on sale!!!
Us too!!! Been awaiting!
Please tell me that’s not a “smart” washer that the water utility can ultimately control if you select “extra large with additional rinse” too many times in a month.
It wasn’t that long ago the you had to be put on a waiting list to get an appliance. How times have changed.
Still on the list. Ordered two kitchenaid under the counter ovens in December and will not be here until Jan 23.
Reducing variable costs, structural cost reductions, prioritization, efficiency measures leveraging…, product transformation…cost reduction program, material positive earnings…cost reduction targets for 2023
And lets not forget “share buyback program”….all of that out of the link provided sounds like a recipe for layoffs.
Repairclinic.com
With the exception of our A/C being recharged, I haven’t used a repairman in years.
Modern appliances are all made on assembly lines, once you get inside them they are very basic.
Keep the old stuff running.
Exactly! We have a 17 year old Matag dishwasher and fridge. Wouldn’t trade them!
Go woke. Go broke.
In 2 years there’s going to be a major cicada emergence in my area, Brood XIII. (Lord, please let me win the lottery before then so I can stay in a hotel somewhere else for 4 months!) Should I box them up and ship them to hungry Dems?
I’m hoping cars start dropping, they’ve been insane.
Sundance just saved me a couple of hundred dollars.
I went looking online for a new range hood, something cheap and maybe on sale; the fan on the present one stopped working a while ago. I had to measure the width and the size of the duct. So, I took off the filters to see the duct and spun the non-working fan. All kinds of yuk went spinning out, all over the stove, the counters, the floor….leaves and grit and pine straw.
After cleaning, the fan works and I no longer need a cheap range hood. Thank you, Sundance, for the article. Of course, now I’m going to have to check the roof and see if something needs to be put over that vent.
Looks like a great dem political play. Push out trillions to dem friends and fund campaign war chest. Choke energy and raise interest rates to temper the inflation numbers. Lower rates start drilling into 2024 to keep presidency.
Not to mention, IMHO, the new energy-saving,”hyper-computerized” appliances are absolute crap compared to the older models.
If you can, repair your older models for as long as you can !

Many items like that can easily be fixed. I don’t have a guide for you really but if you can, network among those who are handy. You’ll be amazed.
Robertg and Baloney, that is good advice. I usually look on YouTube for a repair video, but in this case, I didn’t. This hood is 17 years old and I was afraid it might just be beyond fixable. So glad I didn’t buy anything, but I probably wouldn’t have checked if I hadn’t seen this article.
Last night during historic heavy rainfall here in SE Wisconsin, my husband discovered our sump pump was not working, and it was smoking. While he was bailing out its basin, I texted our daughter and son-in-law, explained the situation, and asked them to please pray that our basement would not flood.
Our son in law said there was a spare pump at his parents’ house–would we like him to bring it over and help put it in?
He arrived less than 30 min. later with the pump, reciprocating saw in hand.
The two men made the swap, and he was on his way back home before a full hour had passed since my text requesting prayer.
The Lord provided a White Knight for us. So if an appliance or other household component fails at a bad time, ask family, a church member, friend or neighbor to pray for you…you may be happily surprised. : )
A critter nesting in the duct? I had starlings nesting in mine until I put a piece of hardware cloth over the outlet.
Now that you’ve done that bit of appliance maintenance let’s turn to your refrigerator. Look at the very bottom of the front, there should be a 3″-4″ like breather vent piece going across. Grab it by the ends and pull it straight out away from the fridge and it should pop right off. Once you remove it you’ll see how it attaches when you go to put it back on. Under there you will find the unit’s coolant piping grid that looks something like this.
Now get down and look underneath with a flashlight. You will likely find a lot of dust bunnies, furry ones if you have pets. That mess needs to all come out. Be careful as there is a fragile piping grid of 2 or 3 layers where the dust and debris accumulates that you will need to get in between. A foot long at least, very thin duster will make it easier as there’s usually only about an inch or so between the grid layers.
Doing this regularly, at least once a year, will improve the efficiency and extend the life of your refrigerator.
Condenser coils vary by refer and I use a combination of bristle brush and shop vac to clean the coils on my older equipment.
The last refer I bought was an old style, yet new, ‘rental’ refer for a rental property and it had the old fashioned full condenser coil on the back of the unit. Real easy to clean.
One thing those of us with decades of skills and experience in the trades have to watch for in this economic decline is people, friends and family, taking advantage of that. Humans are greedy sons of bitches sometimes, actually often. After decades of it, I’ve had my fill of them actually. Take, take, take, that’s what they are.
Thanks! I will alert my husband. Good time for fall cleaning.
And range hoods can be a bear to install…especially if the new one comes with a hook-up cord/wire that is just inches long.
Could I buy a new washer & dryer and store them in the garage until needed? Serious question cause mine are OK but pretty old. Would love to get a super deal (if there is one) and have the appliances at home ready to be swapped out.
You could but just know that current washer/dryer appliances are not what they used to be. They can be finicky – like a door sensor goes out and it won’t turn on and you have to get a code and look it up. No good answers but if you are thinking you need a backup set of appliances, well far be it from me to tell you to hold out. I’d at least go with something like a Whirlpool set because they aren’t too expensive and you can sorta work on them still.
Thank you. I know a few people with newer/so called smart appliances. They had trouble right off the bat. As long as a cold garage isn’t a problem I’ll keep my eyes open for sales. Let’s see how it goes
Don’t get a front loading washer! Due to a design flaw, they smell sour and Make your clothes smell bad. Both daughters got them, and there was no efficient cure.
Front load washers require a commitment to perform preventative maintenance if you want to avoid the foul smell. It’s not hard, but it has to be done. Once you are finished doing laundry for the day you need to wipe down the rubber seal with a dry towel to dry it out as much as possible and then leave the door cracked a couple of inches for at least 24 hours to complete the drying process (even better if you leave it open all the time except when you are using the washer — the dryer the seal, the better). To keep water from coming out of the front door and getting all over the floor, the seal has to be tight. What happens if you leave a wet surface in a tight space? Mold and mildew grow and then comes the stink! Once the mold/mildew is there, it is virtually impossible to get rid of it because it has permeated into the seal so surface cleaning won’t do it.
If you buy a front load (there are advantages and disadvantages to front load and top load), be prepared to do the dry-out routine after every wash day or pay the price of stinky clothes. It’s as simple as that.
I wouldn’t buy anything new but if that was the game I’d buy the new and keep the working pulls for backup. Why? Storing the new stuff after purchase sails right through the warranty period, not to mention the risks these days with quick parts obsolescence.
A friend who was remodeling a house they’d bought had a new dishwasher in it but his wife wanted the latest finish so he pulled it and gave it to me. I figured, cool, I have a backup for the ’68 Hobart that’s in the house. That was seven years ago. The Hobart is still working and the ‘new’ backup is still sitting in the shop office. No sunk cost though. It was free. If I’d paid for it, it would’ve been washing dishes all these years.
Good point about the warranty.
I recently bought Frigidaire stackable washer dryer unit… I do not recommend.
Thx for the warning
Watch out for mice
Yes if you have the funds..
Might help if they were allowed by the Feds to make reliable products. Don’t ask how I know.
My answer came from my customers. ‘Why should we have you make something when we can get it in China cheaper?’ That’s what corporate America is these days. Actually, ‘these days’ for myself started back in the 1980’s. Everything is about money. Quality is secondary. Focusing on it is a good way to, absent a niche market, end up out of business. Having pretty smooth talking people espouse quality in words, different story. That’s corporate America; smooth and convincing.
That’s how they came to own the government that ‘allows’ us to live. Lately, not so much, witness the Covid operation and who was selected to be ‘essential’ and not. America.
if one purchases less “junk” one can then afford quality
That only works if there is an alternative vs the “junk” available for purchase.
US manufacturers are not much better or worse, they are actually extensions of an off-shore owner who requires them to build the “junky” designs of the owner.
Biden and his cohorts must be tried for treason.
They will be because the option they bring to the table is misery and servitude. A Totalitarian government as it is now will not be tolerated by the masses.
However, there has to be more universal pain felt by the masses. Too many people still in their Biden honeymoon, but this is ending fast. Especially when the Stock Market starts trading under 30,000.
As long as people see this as opportunity to profit off the backs of suffering of others, we’ll continue to lose and be controlled. I see it here. People looking to win and dominate while the country goes down in flames. Sad. Selfish. Human, I guess. Oh, well, off the planet soon enough.
Under Trumps Presidency the people could be all they can be. Under Biden’s Presidency the people have to be what little they can be.
Everyone talking about what little they can get-by with have surrendered. It is music to the Totalitarians ears. Make America Great Again has become Make America Pathetic Again. There seems to be plenty of those around.
This appliance sales collapse is the direct result of raising interest rates by the the fed chairman, powell.
Powell wants people to stop buying because consumer buying, according to him, causes price inflation. Raising interest rates by the fed causes people to stop buying.
So powell raises interest rates and people don’t buy appliances on credit because the interest charges are too high..
And powell is happy.
Except appliance manufacturers are not happy because they aren’t selling their stuff. When that happens they have to fire people. Which means more people are unemployed
This rise in unemployed people is the “pain” powell talks about. That “pain” goes along with powell raising interest rates.
That’s how it works with the fed and their so called “monetary policy.” And that’s how powell gets into your wallet.
You don’t want to hear about “fiscal policy.” That would be about how Biden gets into your wallet. And congress.
When is the last time you saw an appliance commercial?
Do they even give them away as prizes on game shows anymore?
The WEF is on record to eviscerate the banks (which will not survive the decline, certainly in Europe).
Frankly what need does an ownerless society have for financial intermediation?
The coming UBI flatland will consist of an individual Central Bank (BIS) acct that will be replenished monthly with time-expiring, GSP-distance-constrained, behaviorally sensitive commissary coupons for cheap coffee, stale tobacco and potato vodka.
Only the part about the sales collapse is true. Their new models were apparently designed by a team consisting of Greta “Bugs” Thunberg, Mitt “Don’t do laundry” Romney and Joseph “Who?” Biden. It uses 2 quarts of water, takes 2 hours to run and your clothes come out dry and dirty. But it is saving the planet!
We THREW IT AWAY after 2 weeks ($1200 down the toilet) and got a Speed Queen (laundromat) washer. 28 minutes per load, clothes are clean, wife is happy.
…but, but, but we redefined a recession, how can manufacturers be cutting back production? (sarc)
I had no idea Electrolux was so big, or even still around. I’ve been using one of their old vacuums, clunky but a quality unit.
And yes, all this is quite intentional. As with the border, they make gestures toward trying to solve the problem, but they are just for show, to deflect criticism.
When you think “Electorux”, insert “Whirlpool”. That is their money maker. Electrolux is the high end. They own several well know brands but Whirlpool is the number 1 seller. This is bad
No. Whirlpool is a US public stock company, which bought out Maytag and Amana. Electrolux is Frigidaire.
Congratulations Biden voters. You got what you wanted.
My Frigidaire dishwasher that was about 3 1/2 years old stopped getting hot. It took a while for me to figure out the problem because everything else was working. Repairman said he could fix it for around $300.00 but he doesn’t think he can find the part. A month later still no part, the Frigidaire company said they could build us what we needed but it would be cost $450.00 and it would be ours if that was the problem or not. I bought a new dishwasher! The broken dishwasher was from Lowes nothing fancy or top of the line.
The planned life span of current appliances (less than say 5 years old) has been shortened by the lower quality standard as well as designs that are not so repairable.
You nailed this one!
To add to the misery of appliance companies, there are “Handy Man” small businesses flourishing who some how get parts to repair existing appliances, which is allot cheaper than buying a new one. This especially attractive given the much lower quality and planned shortened life span of currently produced products.
We’ve used them a few times to repair a refrigerator and a washer that are over 10 years old.
All the do-gooders saving the planet will be long dead and gone before it’s revealed: their sacrifices didn’t make a damn bit of difference, only serving to further enrich the elites.
OBAMA-Biden’s ” crack” team will deal with these problems… HA,HA,- https://www.zerohedge.com/political/nationwide-rail-strike-looms-white-house-seeks-avert-supply-chain-chaos
Interesting. I have been waiting since April for a replacement part for my Honda lawn mower. Now if Honda is thinking that they are forcing me to a new lawn mower, it sure isn’t going to be a Honda. In fact, it is unlikely I will ever buy anything by Honda in the future.
Point is, maybe some of the collapse is because people are tired of being hosed by these consumer goods corporations. Pissing people off may help your short term financial statements, but it will hurt your long term financial statements.
The Federal Reserve whether they know it or not is doing more to destroy the Biden presidency then anyone else. The lower the market the lower Biden’s approval rating.
Soon, all the washing machines in the world will be made in East Asia. We are at war with East Asia.
How about a major appliance to launder money?
Oh, Ukraine has that covered.
as far as business goes.. in the current business climate.. they cut off their most profitable route.. Russia..
they must have not taken a World Politics course in college .. they should have followed what the Fanta Corporation of Germany did during the last Fourth Turning..
as far as business.. they should have just stayed as neutral as possible.. and survive to the other side of World War..
that’s the dryer side of History.. right on cue..
The Agenda 2030 proponents are forcing the world to destroy it’s economic engine. The governments to Europe and America are gladly going along expecting people to welcome a lower standard of living and be happy. Kind of like the “you will own nothing and be happy” nonsense. Economic contraction means a lot of people unemployed and now dependent on governments that are increasingly unable to fund social safety nets. Combine that with the invasion of the western nations by uneducated, unskilled rent seekers from third world nations, the collapse of civilization is near.
Electrolux) – […] Market demand for core appliances in Europe and the US so far in the third quarter is estimated to have decreased at a significantly accelerated pace compared with the second quarter, driven by the impact of high inflation on consumer durables purchases and low consumer confidence. High retailer inventory levels have amplified the impact of the slowdown in consumer demand.
Translation: Demand is still strong, but the plebs are out of cash.
All of this is being done with intent, purpose and control. This is a managed decline.
Food is the next batter up at the plate (pun).
” Prepare accordingly”. q and unq.
It’s the slow road to collapse.
