The price differential is remarkable. In this report from NewsNation, they follow Americans who travel to Mexico for their essential purchases. Not only is gasoline over a $1/gal cheaper, but everyday essential items are significantly lower.
Retailers in the video highlight an increase in sales of 20 to 30% from cross border shoppers. Biden’s economic plan is Making Mexico Great Again. WATCH:
I’m going to Ole Mexico for dental work. Saving thousands of $$.
Have a friend that recently did that… A LOT of problems. He did implants.
Buyer beware…due diligence and all that. Get reviews from verified patients.
My parents neighbor had his dental work there and ended up in the hospital with a massive infection.
Almost lost his life.
Be careful.
There is a reason things are cheaper most of the time it is because the value is much much lower.
judging by the ‘maintenance’ or other work i see done by ‘immigrants’ here in the US, i wouldn’t have much confidence in their dentistry ‘back home’. then again, the covidiocy really has given ‘american’ medical (or dental) care a permanent black eye with face diapers and trying to murder unvaxxed patients
Yep, a fellow British Columbian travelled with his mother to Mexico.
They had a two week vacation, and excellent dental work done.
Returned home, and still their cost was less than the local quote here in Greater Vancouver.
Several retired B.C.ers we know now travel to the Baja for a winter break forgoing California.
Sad to think about it..
Spent some winters Oaxaca, Mexico. Many Canadians!
All white haired. (lol)
A friend had his fishing colleague killed in Baja. He won’t go back.
My in-laws do this. Dentist is a USC dental school grad and they pay a fraction of the price. They used to own a vacation home down there and had the quick-border crossing pass, so they did not have to wait in the hellacious lines to come back. And they always came home with lots of groceries and OTC meds and such that were much cheaper there than here.
Now that they are quite elderly we prefer them not to go, but they do still go down for major dental work. They swear by it.
Name and location would be beneficial. I need a partial plate!
kind of far but in the city of Oaxaca in the state of Oaxaca, Dr. Tenorio. Alma, I think.
Her office is on one of the generalissimo streets.
She is a good dentist, IMO. Her brother and father are also dentists.
Note: this info. is at least 7 years old.
I had crowns and root canals done – still there I am still chomping away.

Many retired and active Medical and Dental professionals end up in Central America to live cheap, enjoy and practice full of part time.
I went across the border at Yuma AZ into Los Algodones for tooth extraction. $50. No problemo.
I paid $ 50 pesos at a dental school in the Yucatan. Y sin problemos
Simple procedures are a bit more dependable have less trouble and problems with infection.
Several of my parents friends who went down to Algodones for more complicated work had results that varied alot in how satisfied they were.
Several of them had to be admitted to the Yuma hospital for treatment for serious infections.
Might be good idea to ask around about the dentists down there.
Our friends go there for their prescriptions and Ivermectin (rx not required there).
With a little luck and the right dental chair maybe I can change my screen name to Not So Ugly Cuss………
good teeth cuss.
Reading all the dental replies, makes me happy that I’ve never even had a cavity. So far my kids are the same- my poor husband can lose a cap if he eats a chicken wing…. 😉😬
My daughter was blessed as you and your kids were.
I agree .. i thank my lucky stars everyday that i have great teeth , never a cavity and no braces… didn’t realize how expensive it was until i got older because everyone in my immediate family same as me so i sort of just assumed that was pretty normal … dentist dont like people like us thats for sure lol
I had crowns and root canals done in Oaxaca, Mexico. There is a family of dentists down there.
7 years later my teeth are fine.
The price was reasonable, not exorbitant.
hey … easier to get mailed-in-teeth
Pretty soon it will be “Remain in the United States” policy by the Mexican government. Banana Republic!
😂😂😂
Maybe the illegals will start going back home!
America. Land of self-congratulatory bumper sticker. However if you want your teeth done, you gotta swim the Rio Grande.
No way will Mexico seek to exclude American shoppers. Spend money. Stay overnight or for a vacation, but then go home.
Has Mexico formally requested entry into BRICS?
Not that I have read. They probably will.
They might as well.
It is no secret that the Pacific coastal countries of Latin America ( and Canada) have economies on a somewhat different track than the USA. They are , in many ways economic colonies if China. …..For years.
Of China
Stopping illegal immigrants might be a result of Bidenflation.
Not when the U.S. Government will give the illegal aliens plenty of funding and benefits to live on, no matter what the cost.
Milk in Mexico is $2.50 but it’s free here for illegals plus they get pocket money and a room at the country club.
Lol! Every cloud has a silver lining, but comment from @Elric is correct. They come for the abundant welfare then send money home and go home to visit for purchasing necessities.
Is it cool with potato Joe that my illegal housekeeper does the cross border shopping, I’m so stressed just going to whole paycheck.
LOL!!!!! I need one of those. Would be a long trip from NY!
I hope they’re tankering from Mexico too, considering the disparity in fuel costs, in part to make those shopping junkets affordable.
Also, something I noticed last trip, remarkably, I found fuel prices in NorCal and Oregon at par, which they’ve never been in my experience. Newsom has done something. Even when fuel was PDJT prices, Oregon fuel was about a buck or more less a gallon than CA.
If true, then SoCal folks going to Mexico are paying less for CA fuel than they should be, even though far more expensive than in Mexico. Then again, in Mexico gas can be free if one is willing to take some risks.
Quite a few wound up as “crispy critters”. What a terrible way to die.
Yep, such is life in Mexico. Dealt with that mindset for decades operating a business in ag land in the midst of farmworkers.
Last time I was down in Algodones with my Mom buying med over the counter there cheaper than she could get here the federales were everywhere with their machine guns.
It was creepy and spooky.
That was over seven years ago and we have not been back.
I was born and raised on the Mexican American border and spent my whole life going back and forth but the last couple of times I was there it was down right creepy with the armed federales walking around.
The drug cartels have such a presence down there it keeps me away.
Maybe the socal shoppers are use to being shot at all the time with the criminal aspect in their own home towns but that is something I am not fond of.
The drug cartels run everything down there now, when they decide to shoot the place up there is no where to run.
“Newsom has done something.”
Tax and regulatory fees. Remove those and our gas would be some of the cheapest in the country. Instead of providing any sort of relief on that front, he’s forced refineries to close. So here we are with the highest prices in the country.
Gov Brian “Dominion” Kemp in Georgia suspended the state gas tax nearly a year ago – because our state is running a budget surplus. The Kempster secured a primary win based on that, and will go in a rematch against Tank Abrams in November.
Who is paying Dominion the most for Nov 2022?
DemocRat Bolshevik Fzt Stacey or rinoRat Crook Kemp?
GA Choices!!! Crooks are less harmful, if that offers much solace.
AZ here.
I worked with a guy and his family owned small grocery in AP.
When he would get off work he would stop at Walmart and shop . 10 gals milk 2o baloney type deal, cart would be full.
I would shop after work and see him there.
Then he would take items to the store over the border to sell.
Same thing with Naco. Store owners would do the same.
Used to be a pain when you would go pick up basics and none left.
Haven’t experienced that in awhile.
Maybe that’s what happened to the peanut butter. . . SV.
Orale! I think the Mexers are getting nervous the Californians might just end up staying like in Mexico City. Hell, El Salvador’s President at least has a sense of humor. Central America might be pretty sweet when the throw away peoples migrate here only to find there is no one left to pay the tab.
I have three friends who have recently bought homes in gated communities in Mexico.
Mexico isn’t all that bad.
Plain facts are, the dollar goes further in Mexico.
Its hot and humid, but if you can deal with that,
and handle being around brown people,
its a realistic place to reside.
Its crappy though, that there are places in the world that Americans
can even consider moving to.p because of the conditions in the US.
I never thought it would come to that, but that’s reality,
What happens when they leave the compound?
Have a good friend who had a beautiful home in Rosarito Mexico. Guy got in their home and shot her in the mouth. Had to drive her to San Diego for medical care. Lost all of her upper teeth left side but she made it. Pretty much abandoned their home and possessions. So thanks, but no thanks.
This is the reality of being in places where you aren’t a local .. when shtf you are on your own
Not just those who are not local.
The Mexican citizens who live down there also are victims and so many of them are desperetly trying to leave.
So many of them are risking their lives trying to get out of this so called paradise.
The reality of Mexico is that it is pretty much a narco state run by the drug cartels.
People who have had limited experience with that do not even begin to understand the ramifications of how vicious, cruel and violent these cartels can be.
A lot of the senior citizens who winter in the border towns have pulled back from their day jaunts down into the border towns in Mexico because of the problem the cartels have inflicted on these Mexican border towns that rely on tourism for their living.
The story that you tell about your friend LD, is one that many will not believe.
Americans want to believe that Mexico is a sun and sand paradise, cheap and easy living just a few hundred miles south of us.
They will ignore the stories of violence and bloodshed for the ones of beautiful women and lovely beaches.
Like the old tried ways there is a sucker born every minute and for some reason too many here in the USA want to believe that Mexico is a cheap Paradise.
Why do they think so many of the Mexican people risk every thing to illegally come up here?
Gated being the key word. And who is manning the gates?
My parents did the same thing in the 70s. Dad was stationed at Ft. Bliss, El Paso
Listen … I am a Free Market Conservative till my dying day … but this is a clear case of Retailers “charging what the market will bear”. The oil companies do it. Safeway does it. All major retailers do it. Try buying groceries in my upper-upper middle class suburban enclave here in N. CA. Anyone living anywhere else in America would be shocked. Just one case in point. My Safeway sells 1 qt. of half&half for $3.49 … I’ll wager you pay $1.00 less than that … or more.
And the divide between N.CA and SO. CA is significant. The grocery prices at my daughters local Dana Point Ralphs are SIGNIFICANTLY lower than what I pay here in N.CA.
Yes … I suppose that’s the Free Market … but it’s not AT ALL a question of supply and demand. It’s defacto monopoly … small … localized monopolies. Yes, we can go to COSTCO (hint: most of their overpriced novelty foods aren’t that cheap) or Stop and Save, or whatever … but that takes a lot more time and coordination. But when stores anywhere near me start charging Mexico prices … I’ll suffer the inconvenience.
I saw cost plus reasonable profit go out the window when offshore monopolization took hold in earnest in the 70’s and 80’s. I’d often get customers thinking I was cutting corners on quality due to the disparity of pricing. Nope, I was still, stupidly, pricing stuff at cost plus a reasonable profit.
I believe Michael Douglas epitomized the coporate mindset in the 80’s with ‘greed is good’ Gordon Gekko in the movie ‘Wall Street’. Hard to argue with reality. America.
It’s more than free market economy in action. I lived in SF for 15 years and prices on everything was always overpriced. Moved back to Orange County a year ago and yes the prices are cheaper. But in both areas prices are higher because fuel is more expensive, wages are higher (in the Bay Area minimum wage drives product cost as well), local taxes are also different, which makes the cost of living higher in general. Back to gas, California overtaxes and over-regulates, which are the main drivers in what we pay at the pump.
Interesting post.
Our local farmers market is superb…produce galore.
Fish, and meats too.
Free range eggs even locally produced wines and spirits.
This is true free market..
A large bag of fresh picked mushrooms $4.00 a large Romaine lettuce $2.50 the eggs are pricey $6.00 but worth it.
Cheers!
It pisses me off that I am paying $4.99/lb and UP for boring old white crimini mushrooms. A large bag of fresh picked for $4.00 sounds nice. And Safeway’s mushrooms always appear to be about half done with their shelf life when I buy them
Pretty much all Safeway/Albertsons/Luckys (those are west coast stalwarts) produce isn’t very good.
Sure, I’ll get tomatoes/onions celery there if needed.
But I will never buy the fruit at those places. The fruit is always second rate, at first rate prices
I go to the farmers market or to Cartwrights(butcher/market) for
watermelon, apples, grapes, cantaloupe, cherries, etc.
The big stores produce just isn’t very good.
In my experience the retailer sells the item for roughly double what they paid the distributor. That way, they can break even when they need to get rid of a product by slashing price by 50% or do a BOGO. If there wasn’t so much regulation prices would decrease significantly.
If opening and operating a business was not encumbered by government interference, most of the small business owners I know would determine a risk/ratio formula and price fairly.
Corporations and government institutions work together the prevent competition. We are not living in a free market country.
I pay $6.49 for a quart of organic lactose free half and half in Illinois
at Whole Foods (only place I can find lactose free)
How many almonds would they have to crush to get that watery almond milk goo to get to the consistency of some nice fresh bovine half and half. I simply embrace my lactose intolerance … outdoors as much as possible
My husband is lactose and whey intolerant.
If he takes two of those chewable Lactaid tablets, but the less expensive generic kind, before eating he doesn’t suffer any negative effects.
When the food industry started adding whey to processed food — and lots of processed food including breads — my husband’s intolerance started. It got to the point where his large intestine would bleed and the doctors had no clue what was going on. After lots of tests they guessed at what was causing it, and all of those guesses were wrong.
If he eats a burger at McDonald’s he needs to take two Lactaid chewables, because the buns — like most bread — has whey in it.
Hi Kenny,
I paid 6.99 for a half gallon of half and half this week in FL!
I would have been happy to buy a smaller amount but was not available! So there is that…..hmmmm?
I was recently visiting relatives in MA, in what world would all their groceries be cheaper? Yet they were by 2.00 to 3.00 per item?
Apologies! Kenzie is the proper spelling!
Ok never mind, it is fat finger syndrome!
I answer to anything close … 🙂. Yeah it makes NO sense that MA would have cheaper groceries … EXCEPT … the pay isn’t quite what it is here in Silicon Valley … so they charge what the market will bear.
The REAL trouble is that here in CA … our leftist CAGW cultists in State Govt. and the PUC have been necessarily raising our PG&E electric and Nat gas rates by 66% and rising. I have no AC and I just got a SUMMER bill of $279.00 !!! For what? Turning on the lights after 8pm during the long days of summer? Only two years ago, my typical summer bill would be about $125.00. And it’s just the wife and I here … no kids, no lights on. No constant laundry (we do about 1 load/week). The leftist FREAKS are trying to FORCE everyone into energy poverty. We all better start pushing back … real hard
A place I rented in CA had a busted sprinkler. I told the landlord and he said he’d fix it, and to just send him the water bill and he would take care of it. Sprinkler was on a timer, etc. I wasn’t supposed to touch it per my lease.
Easy enough, right?
Well, the sprinkler guy didn’t come out for a few weeks, meanwhile that line is leaking the whole time.
700$ water bill that month.
Thats CA.
Kenji, whatever can their explanation be for those charges and no usage? I would be hopping mad too.
Very true Kenji.
My kids who live in the city like to buy their meat here when they come to visit because it is so much cheaper.
They bring a cooler full of ice and stock up.
I sold our California home in April and we moved to Oklahoma. The woke culture in California was unhealthy for our younger children. The cost of living is so much higher. I saw the direction that our country was going. In my mind it was like watching the Roman Empire slowly fall apart but the whole empire never fell. I was looking for a safe harbor as the country implodes. Sadly that is how I see it. I hope that I am proven wrong.
FYI I think people need to go from “Let’s Go Brandon” to “Democrats=Communists”. Blaming everything on Biden lets the real culprits off. FDems!
” I saw the direction that our country was going. In my mind it was like watching the Roman Empire slowly fall apart but the whole empire never fell. ”
Every time I watch a TV series, movie or the news with my wife these days and a photo or video of Washington DC pops up,
I say “ROMAN EMPIRE”.
My wife says, “Yup.”
Yep, and compared to the Romans, our culture IMO is dying as an adolescent. A really brilliant adolescent, but still quite young as civilizations and cultures go. Sad. Is the planet headed for another Dark Ages? IDK.
Rome founded 753 BC.
The Republic was established 509 BC.
The Punic Wars were,
First 264-241 BC,
Second 218-201 BC,
Third 149-146 BC.
It wasn’t till 200 BC that Rome had control over all of Italy.
Augustus became Emperor in 31 BC.
the Western Empire died in 476 AD. (Includes Rome.)
the Eastern half of the Roman Empire died in 1453 AD.
in comparison, English colonization of America started succeeding around 1609 AD.
American Revolutionary war 1775-1783 AD.
Constitution effective 1789 AD.
Today 2022.
Both the Republic and the Empire lasted a lot longer than our Union has.
Just so I’m clear, as my old mind gets befuddled sometimes, didn’t I state that? Sometimes posting on this forum has me believing I’m from another planet speaking an alien language. ???
You did say that.
But Jim gave those of us who don’t know ancient history (me) a simple list stating when things happened.
Thank you, both, for letting me/us know how young our country is in comparison to what happened with Rome.
Well everything happens quicker these days than in the past.. I’m sure technology is the main reason for that so no surprise empires rise and fall much quicker as well.
Or to get biblical…. Babylon
Agree! I have been saying “Rome is burning” for at least 3 years now!
Welcome to Oklahoma.
I grew up in Oklahoma but live just across the Red River in Texas.
We go to Oklahoma quite often.
A friend had 12000$ USD worth of dental work done @ a dental school in the Yucatan fir 600 $ USD. Took 8 months and excellent work! Viva 🇲🇽
Headed down to Tulum early tomorrow for some much needed beach days. I’m sure I’ll contribute my fair share to their economy as well.
They still accept U.S. Federal Reserve notes?
I guess that it is still one of the least bad when it comes to inflated currencies used for trade.
Maybe we should swap countries and Presidents
Let the drug cartels have the place they want it so bad they can have Biden, let all the criminals and trash come over and we’ll go over there.
Our drug Cartels are listed on the stock exchange.
OH NO YOU DON’T!!!
Get ready, vato!
One of the foreign nationals in the clip said he drove two hours to TJ. Thats at least $100.00 in gas right there….one way trip. “every penny counts”
They’re not sending there best and brightest. Media is convinced everybody who still watches their crap is very stupid.
I have recently read an article that Mexican citizens are increasingly angry at white people, so that it is becoming a problem that a white person can be physically or verbally attacked just based on skin color.
Don’t know how widespread that is, but it is bound to cause resentment when Americans go down to Mexico with lots of money and spend it buying up what they have available. In a food shortage, it could become problematic.
1.2 million Americans have now relocated in Mexico. The bulk Mexico City and yes, the locals are not happy.
Das is schade.
Poor, poor babies.
How do they like their karma?
Tell them to ring us up when there are 40 – 60 million Americans living in MX ILLEGALLY.
I have read the same. Some Americans can sure spoil it. One bad apple and all that….
Most of my doctors have “Universidad” on at least one of their diplomas. Except for my regular doctor, whose diploma is from Istanbul.
I would NOT, however, drive my car into Mexico to save on gas.
😂 😂
The Americans are also moving down to Mexico. To the Baja, other resort area’s and even Mexico City according to real estate agents.
A person who supplied horses to the Border Patrol went across the border to buy tack at the leather outfitters. He was kidnapped, planted with drugs and a prostitute, and bribed by Mexican police only to be let go once he promised to give them the cash ransom. The BP agents started looking for him when he didn’t turn up that evening to collect the horses. Yeah… don’t go to Mexico.
I’ve lived near the northern border a long time, the same phenomenon used to occur with Canadian residents before 2020. The shopping centers nearest the border made up to 80% of their sales from people north of the border trying to buy cheaper goods here than back home. Funny thing though, very often the language spoken by those Canadian residents in recent years was neither English nor French.
Leave Saturday for 2 weeks in Puerto Vallarta
We been going to Mexico for vacations for past few years because everything is less expensive.
Expect even bigger savings based on this article!
On the chart it lists Mexican prices in US dollars. Is this US dollars cash price in greenbacks? Or Mexican pesos translated into USD? The locals might be giving more for the US cash, because of still valuing it higher. Or maybe the exchange rate is goofy.
The Alamo called. It wants to go home.
We know what we know.
And having 90k new armed IRS Agents will certainly not fix our problems here in US.
The solutions always lead to more problems.
Not to mention all the Fentanyl money pouring into Mexico from the U.S.
It is impossible to bring the world up to America’s level, so America must be brought down to the world level. It’s been the plan all along … those in charge are doing a great job at it.
Please think long and hard before you cross that border! Todays news on Juarez, Mexico. It is right next to El Paso, Texas. I dont mean 20 miles away, I mean 20 inches. https://www.borderreport.com/immigration/border-crime/radio-crew-gunned-down-stores-firebombed-as-violence-erupts-in-juarez/
Citizens are being ask to stay inside their homes.
Mexico, the new China!
Cheap labor, service and very welcoming to US dollar.
Now if they could only grow food and commodities.
