At the same time as Russia has targeted railway lines as part of the effort to block U.S. arms shipments into Eastern Ukraine, Vladimir Putin has now followed through on the previous warning to stop Russian gas supplies unless payments are made in non-sanctioned Rubles.
Poland is obviously the primary target for retaliation here, as the NATO alliance is using Poland as the gateway for arms deliveries into Ukraine.
According to multiple reports from the EU Russia has halted gas shipments into Poland and Bulgaria. (Reuters) “Gazprom Russia’s gas export monopoly, suspended gas supplies “due to absence of payments in roubles”, as stipulated in a decree from Russian President Vladimir Putin that aims to soften the impact of sanctions.”
There are conflicting reports as to whether Germany is paying Russia, or whether they are trying to avoid running afoul of the NATO alliance by reducing Russian imports.
Ukraine President Zelenskyy is using the opportunity to reinforce his position that all European countries need to stop purchasing energy from Russia, or else they are not supporting Ukraine. However, it’s not as simple as it seems because multiple EU countries are dependent on Russia for energy products and there are no immediate alternatives. Russia is leveraging this dependency in an effort to break the western sanctions.

It is difficult to get accurate information but from what I have been able to gather it looks like Russian forces are slowly strangling the entire UK army in the East. They appear to be establishing semi permanent infrastructure as they go. This includes air defenses. So they are planning to stay.
As Col. MacGregor notes, don’t look at the way the U.S. fights wars and compare it to the way it to the way Russia is fighting this war. They are mindful of civilian casualties and desire to limit, as much as possible, their own casualties.
The spring mud is drying up and will probably be completely dry by the time the Russians have all of their assets ready for the final push in the East. The 80,000 or so UK army soldiers in or near the Donbas look like siting ducks to me, although I am no expert. IMHO they will be annihilated or they will surrender. Either way they are finished.
The best case scenario for the regime in Ukraine at this point is the Russians stop at the Dnieper River. If they do that then Russia will have essentially achieved most of it’s military goals. They will have their buffer zone, they will have their land bridge to the Crimea and they will prevent any future military action against the civilian population in the East Ukraine. But they are staying. There won’t be any return to the previous borders.
Will they stop there? I am not sure. From what I have read the Russians are not very interested in Western Ukraine. However they may be very interested in the Odesa Region. Once the Eastern campaign is completed watch out. They may come for Odesa. If they do that then nearly everything that could matter in Ukraine from a military standpoint would be achieved.
To further poke NATO in the eye I would wager that the areas that are taken by the Russians will be allowed a referendum vote. I also bet that the referendum, by a large margin, will show most people want to go with the Russians in spite of Western propaganda.

I’m surprised that it took Russia this long to take out the rail lines to Poland. They need to do more than just take-out the transformer stations feeding the rail lines – they need to take out rail bridges and track infrastructure. No offense to Sundance or Trump, but “EU dependence on Russian energy supplies” is just an honest and common sense observation that most Americans were able to make for decades before globalist agendas, corruption, fraud, false narratives, and hoaxes became the staple of our political and media classes.
This will all play out to Russia’s favour. Europe will play its’ cards in the typical European fashion. There is speculation that some European countries (who pay for Russian natural gas in rubles) are prepared to be agents for those countries which are not paying with rubles. The devil is in the details. As we are dealing with large companies, I fully expect there will be sales between companies (and countries).
Here is a link to a website showing German/Russian trade. In 2020, Germany exported +$26 Billion to Russia. In return, Germany imported +$14 Billion from Russia. Most of those imports were energy.

When we talk boots on the ground… there is no NATO. Outside of the USA, no contingent of European countries can muster anything close to a military defense of their homelands. There is no chance of them going on the offensive against Russia. The US military infrastructure is the skeleton of the body of NATO. No backbone… No Body shows up…

Geography is difficult for me also. I don’t speak Russian and it’s difficult for me to understand names of cities and find them on maps. I’m trying to follow all this daily and often needing to do a browser search to find cities 0r even some small countries.

If you are Germany or one of the other EU States with a RUSSIAN Energy Terminal and Foreign Distribution Center…you RESALE everything at premium to your EU “friends” … at a massive premium to hedge your actual costs.

A country has every right to demand payment for its products to be settled in its currency. And, if you write a check that can’t be cashed, “you don’t get the product.” It’s as simple as that. 🤷♂️ Russia sells oil and gas: it does not give it away for free.
