Read these bills yourself. They don’t take away Disney’s Special District status until June NEXT YEAR, and allow them to REESTABLISH it at the same time it goes away. In other words, they aren’t losing their special district status AT ALL!
Further, the bill is amended by removing prohibitive language to now ALLOW Disney and others to buy, bribe and control Politicians by allowing them to make contributions and give gifts and bribes to politicians.

What I can tell you: Companies like Disney, Netflix, etc, etc have crossed the damn line. So have our schools. I have no kids but I am an Uncle and a damn good one at that. One of the dem talking points about the Disney thing is that now the taxpayers are stuck with a $1B bond issue. We’ll, it seems to me a new taxpayer has been added to the property tax rolls. I’ve also read this taxpayer will owe $200M a year in tax. So, doing some racist non CRT math I get, $1B divided by $200M per year is 5 years. So, all things being equal, the bond is paid for in 5 years and then its sweetness from then on. And that’s a 5 year plan that actually works.
Now hopefully the bunch who passed this won’t be drooling at the $200M.

So Disney, as the land owner who appoints its electors, used its municipality to issue a $1,000,000,000 bond, I assume for road repairs, etc. to whom? But muni bonds are usually secured by its taxpayers right, which is Disney as tenant? A bank loans it money for capital improvements, with a guaranteed return. Isn’t this just moving liabilities off of Disney’s books to Reedy Creek?
Isn’t Disney just using Reedy as a shell company for infrastructure? If a landlord needed to fix the apartment building, they don’t issue a bond, they raise the rent on their tenant. But Disney paying itself for road improvements would be silly. So a $1B in bonds means that the county pays the bond back as taxes, instead of shuffling money from one pocket of Disney to the other.
A lot of good questions about this billion dollar bond.
A bond can be sold to anyone but usually still has assets that are collateral.
The Disney Company (private entity) can float a bond but can not slough off its debts to the county ( government/taxpayers).
If the bond holder does not get paid he/she/they can come in and repo the assets, Disney World or what ever DISNEY put up as collateral for the bond.
The taxpayers are not necessarily responsible for the up keep of roads and infrastructure on private developments.
We have many private residential developments here in Colorado in rural areas and the residents pay for and make arrangements for water, sewer, road service and the hookups necessary for electrical.
Since Disney World is a business which provides a service to customers it must have a license to do business, or it should have which residential developments do not need.
I will bet that DeSantis has looked at this issue every which way and has all of Florida’s ducks in a row when it comes to the legalities of everything.

Some states have legislated to allow public school funds ( often derived from taxpayers )
to be used towards an alternative ( perhaps proven better ) school choice.
That has not been available for a long, long time…decades.
And still is not the case in many states. To which some folks pay twice ( annually taxed AND pay annual private tuition etc ).
