Several days ago CTH presented the following meme/metaphor, because history has a tendency to rhyme:
Those who recognize and appreciate history will note that whenever hardline leftism is confronted anywhere in history, there always comes an inflection point when the ruling state police have to make a decision.
When the Chinese communists decided it was time to rid themselves of the dissident protests in Tiananmen Square, the local military encircled the student and academic activists in an effort to protect them (pictured above). However, the ruling Chinese officials were not happy, and sent for the Mongolian army divisions, those without familial connections in the movement, to do the dirty work. The rest of history you likely know.
In Ottawa, Canada, again another exhibition of confronting hardline totalitarian leftists, the voices of those within the Freedom Convoy movement are similarly not going to be deterred. The protestors want the government COVID dictates removed, they want vaccine passport rules dropped, they want mandated vaccinations and forced medical procedures stopped, and they want their freedom back.
Into this equation and confrontation, The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and local law enforcement are also unlikely to want to bring blood and violence upon the streets. However, the hardline leftists will not allow dissent to challenge their power. As history repeats, the local police are now opening the possibility of bringing in the military.
Yes, history is rhyming again.

“This is a national issue, not an Ottawa issue,” Ottawa police Chief Peter Sloly said in a briefing to city councillors Wednesday afternoon.
“I am increasingly concerned there is no policing solution to this.”
Sloly said options being considered include requesting military aid, negotiation, political response, a court injunction or forced removal of protesters. But all approaches come with significant concerns, including rioting, injury and death, he said.
“I don’t have a singular mandate in this city, this province or this country, to negotiate the end to any demonstration. There always needs to be an element outside of the police for any truly successful end to any demonstration, particularly one of this size,” he said. (read more)
Whether Prime Minister Justin Trudeau triggers the use of the Canadian military to attack peaceful protestors within the city of Ottawa under the auspices of his authority and the national state of emergency, is yet to be determined. However, it is important to not let this moment in the discussion go without emphasis.
This looming question of violence is always the outcome when leftism is confronted.
Hardline leftists must impose their policy by force. There is not a single example throughout history when following socialism, communism, fascism or leftism writ large to its natural conclusion, does not end up with this type of dynamic. This always happens.
The reason is simple. Leftism is based on the controlling constructs of manipulative people. The natural forces that guide humanity to seek a life of liberty and freedom are in direct conflict with those constructs. Leftism is about controlling human behavior, there will always be this conflict so long as people still yearn to be free and unregulated. The level of oppressive fear needed to create compliance is the only variable in the equation.
It’s hopefully unlikely that Justin Trudeau will order the military to open fire on truckdrivers and their supporters. However, it is not out of the realm of possibility, because this is the true nature of where communal demand takes us. The greater good of society always demands the removal of any voice who would stand in opposition to the oppressive regulations. In a directly connected example, this is why Big Tech must silence the voices of dissidents who challenge the regime.
Moments of great consequence come down to this confrontation. Generations of people who are born after the violence takes place do not have a reference point for this; that is why history is guaranteed to repeat.
It is only when the younger people see the extent of violence the ruling class will deliver in order to retain power that you see a youthful awakening. Thus, the quote from Thomas Jefferson, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants,” takes on its intended focus.
Conflict, sometimes violent confrontation, is the natural outcome of allowing a slow erosion of liberty to take place. Accepting this truism is why the wise voices in our history have sounded trumpets whenever examples rise of that erosion. Taking your shoes off in the airport starts to look a whole lot differently when you realize that eventually that simple act, and the next series of simple acts, are simple steps toward the confrontation that will always, eventually, surface.
The issues in/around COVID-19, and the government responses around it, have replaced the process of slowly eroding liberty with an era of full throttled running directly toward tyranny.
What is happening in Ottawa right now will determine the direction of Canada for generations.

From a Canadian perspective, I honestly don’t see Trudeau using the military. First of all, our military is a total joke. Secondly, it won’t solve Trudeau’s problem because the military won’t be able to move the trucks themselves (apparently, all the truckers have to do is remove the slack adjuster pin from the brakes, and the truck becomes un-towable).

There are a lot of “citizens” who want their demands honored. Some of those citizens, many think are nuts! (Think “cancel culture”…). Both sides have their “demands.” Both sides think they are on the moral high ground. Is the deciding factor who can garner the most support in terms of numbers of supporters and funds raised, the amount of intimidation that can be brought to bear? Is there manipulation by a “hidden hand” on both sides?
One thing I have observed, is that both sides of an issue think they are right, based on the information they choose to believe, that forms their opinions.
Another observation is that people in positions of “leadership” are all in on fostering that division.

If you cannot find a crime to charge the protestors, how can you justify taking military action against them? Is feeding the homeless, a felony? Is shoveling the sidewalks a violation? Is cleaning a memorial after provacatuers sullied it with garbage wrong? Is it trespassing to be standing guard over the tomb of the unknown soldier? What have these people done other than peacefully protest? Given the support of American truckers, any aggression by Canada’s govt to exercise military options against the Canadian truckers just might see a joining of Patriots, truckers, businessmen, law enforcement, RCMP forced out because of no vaxx… That would be one force to recon with.

I watched a video of an interview with the leaders of this Trucker’s Convoy.
They said they have been particular to do what is legal and avoid any illegalities.
Trudeau had tried and tried to make them look like criminals and out laws and has failed miserably so if he does try to use force against them I believe once again he will come out looking bad and lose that battle also.
These trucks weight tens of thousands of pounds and probably are not going any where until their owners decide to drive them there.
They are very difficult to move and the threats to call in tow trucks and move them fell completely flat just as the Trucker organizers knew they would.
These threats about having the military come in and move them with force will make Trudeau look so bad and the politicians who support him look bad if the videos of the military dragging Truckers out of their Trucks and arresting them and beating on them do happen I do know what the citizens of Canada would do but I can guess.

RCMP out in force against the Truckers blocking the border entry in Montana/Alberta. They tried to bully the truckers, then offered to negotiate, treating them like ignorant lower class. A message was spirited out to Ezra Levant, Editor Rebel News, to help set up a GoFundMe page for legal fees and to help find legal representation for the Alberta truckers. Within 6 hours a page was set up and TWO highly esteemed Canadian lawyers were helicoptered into Alberta. The RCMP backed off.
This does not have to end badly; simple negotiations and a appropriately-worded letter can end this with no bloodshed or hard feelings. The fact that Trudeau is in hiding tells the world he is ineffectual and chose poorly.

RCMP had contacted tow companies to assist removing the semi trucks out of the border entry. The tow companies had legal counsel politely refuse to get involved stating the truckers are their best customers and it would be injurious to their business to collaborate with the effort.

I remember a few years back the government started putting up speed cameras everywhere. No vote. No discussion. Just a fear campaign driven by government/media and enforced by police. Next thing you know, you go 3kmh over the limit and you automatically receive a fine in the mail.
This all came about by a fear campaign of advertisement on TV “Speed Kills” with very graphic scenes of ordinary people being killed by ‘speeding motorists’ in different scenarios, like little johnny running onto the road after his ball and BANG! because Jeff was speeding …Then images of mothers crying, and poor Jeff being carted off to jail with the shame and guilt of killing a child.
It worked.
Speed cameras are here to stay. The government collects BILLIONS in ‘road revenue’ which it FORECASTS into upcoming budgets. Oh, and they made laws so they don’t have to say what those billions are spent on and where the money goes. Billions of dollars from a population of 26 million people. Do the math. Its a payment system. Road toll death numbers each and every year rise. As does the fines and no one does a thing about it. Its just how things are these days …

There is a small city (maybe 30-40,000) locally here in commiemommysota where a number of years back they put up cameras to monitor the turn lanes, This was an improvement over the old traffic loops embedded in the pavement. Not long after there was a letter to the editor of the local newspaper accusing the government of spying on drivers at intersections. The local government promptly replied by letter to the editor that this was a wild unsupported claim, that in fact the cameras only link to the traffic light control box at the intersection and there is absolutely no truth to any claim that anyone is being spied on.
I know the electrician who was installing the fiber optic cabling from the cameras to the city camera monitoring center at the very time the letter appeared in the paper.
Rumour has it that those “really” in charge of the Liberal Party (Gerald Butts, Katie Telford, Ralph Goodale) sent Trudeau out of Ottawa because he is an aggressive hothead who would impose even more mandates in response to the truckers protest. Trudeau is just a puppet like Biden, and a really stupid and dangerous one.
If the military is deployed, I cannot imagine Canadians taking this lightly. The protests will only escalate and over a wider sector of people.
