Several days ago CTH presented the following meme/metaphor, because history has a tendency to rhyme:
Those who recognize and appreciate history will note that whenever hardline leftism is confronted anywhere in history, there always comes an inflection point when the ruling state police have to make a decision.
When the Chinese communists decided it was time to rid themselves of the dissident protests in Tiananmen Square, the local military encircled the student and academic activists in an effort to protect them (pictured above). However, the ruling Chinese officials were not happy, and sent for the Mongolian army divisions, those without familial connections in the movement, to do the dirty work. The rest of history you likely know.
In Ottawa, Canada, again another exhibition of confronting hardline totalitarian leftists, the voices of those within the Freedom Convoy movement are similarly not going to be deterred. The protestors want the government COVID dictates removed, they want vaccine passport rules dropped, they want mandated vaccinations and forced medical procedures stopped, and they want their freedom back.
Into this equation and confrontation, The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and local law enforcement are also unlikely to want to bring blood and violence upon the streets. However, the hardline leftists will not allow dissent to challenge their power. As history repeats, the local police are now opening the possibility of bringing in the military.
Yes, history is rhyming again.

“I am increasingly concerned there is no policing solution to this.”
Sloly said options being considered include requesting military aid, negotiation, political response, a court injunction or forced removal of protesters. But all approaches come with significant concerns, including rioting, injury and death, he said.

Whether Prime Minister Justin Trudeau triggers the use of the Canadian military to attack peaceful protestors within the city of Ottawa under the auspices of his authority and the national state of emergency, is yet to be determined. However, it is important to not let this moment in the discussion go without emphasis.
This looming question of violence is always the outcome when leftism is confronted.
Hardline leftists must impose their policy by force. There is not a single example throughout history when following socialism, communism, fascism or leftism writ large to its natural conclusion, does not end up with this type of dynamic. This always happens.
The reason is simple. Leftism is based on the controlling constructs of manipulative people. The natural forces that guide humanity to seek a life of liberty and freedom are in direct conflict with those constructs. Leftism is about controlling human behavior, there will always be this conflict so long as people still yearn to be free and unregulated. The level of oppressive fear needed to create compliance is the only variable in the equation.
It’s hopefully unlikely that Justin Trudeau will order the military to open fire on truckdrivers and their supporters. However, it is not out of the realm of possibility, because this is the true nature of where communal demand takes us. The greater good of society always demands the removal of any voice who would stand in opposition to the oppressive regulations. In a directly connected example, this is why Big Tech must silence the voices of dissidents who challenge the regime.
Moments of great consequence come down to this confrontation. Generations of people who are born after the violence takes place do not have a reference point for this; that is why history is guaranteed to repeat.
It is only when the younger people see the extent of violence the ruling class will deliver in order to retain power that you see a youthful awakening. Thus, the quote from Thomas Jefferson, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants,” takes on its intended focus.
Conflict, sometimes violent confrontation, is the natural outcome of allowing a slow erosion of liberty to take place. Accepting this truism is why the wise voices in our history have sounded trumpets whenever examples rise of that erosion. Taking your shoes off in the airport starts to look a whole lot differently when you realize that eventually that simple act, and the next series of simple acts, are simple steps toward the confrontation that will always, eventually, surface.
The issues in/around COVID-19, and the government responses around it, have replaced the process of slowly eroding liberty with an era of full throttled running directly toward tyranny.
What is happening in Ottawa right now will determine the direction of Canada for generations.

Lately I’ve been seeing headlines of cops getting shot and I don’t even click on the story because I just don’t care as much as I used to. I’m not interested. They are way too eager to go after innocent people to comply with tyranny. I was expecting to see them speaking up and letting the tyrants know that will not enforce covid crap.

The police have mostly not bothered the truckers and have even cooperated with them. An awful lot of them have been developing COVID symptoms as soon as they sent in to do something.

Forget about Tiannamen Square. I’m old enough to remember when U.S. troops in Vietnam were accused of raping and murdering women and and children (under orders from above) and the platoon lieutenant who executed the action was convicted of war crimes. As an outcome of the My Lai massacre, it became policy that any member of the military who follows an order to use lethal force against civilians is subject to prosecution.
As leftists have taken over the ranks of the military, is there any doubt that brass will order the use of deadly force against citizens who gather in protest against assaults on freedom coming from government tyrants? Will anyone in the lower ranks have the guts to stand against the generals who are apparatchiks, political appointees, of the leftist tyrants? Does anyone think that the courts will protect any captain or lieutenant or refuses an order to use force against their own countrymen?
Will there be anyone in the military who is brave enough to stand up against such unlawful orders. We have a front row seat to history. Freedom hangs in the balance. I have doubts that there will be any brave enough in the military to stand against the petty tyrant. But I root for the ONE who does!

In the June of 2020 the DOD made a rule that essentially only the US and state flags were allowed on base anywhere. They did this ostensibly to eliminate confederate flag bumper stickers and the like but the other result is a direct order that Trump flags were not allowed on base. When I pointed out to my superiors that the Rainbow flag was now not allowed on base during “pride month” they weren’t amused and grudgingly admitted I was correct but then suggested that I not ask inconvenient questions…
In October 2021 I was ordered to remove a bumper sticker from my truck by my CO. The sticker was only “Biden” with a syringe for the I and a hammer/sickle for the E. Someone had reported me to my CO who didn’t care but was given a 10 page legal option from the local JAG about why my sticker was disparaging and a violation of the UCMJ Article 88. The JAG claimed that associating Biden with Marxism/Communism was disparaging.
All that aside, at my base their are many sailors that refer to screwing up as “having a Brandon moment”. 😆

We are hurting pretty bad. Last delivery truck into my town no milk containers over 1 litre size. Half the usual dairy order. Prices up 15%. No cheese. No lactose free. Fresh produce half the usual and prices 30% higher. But a lot of that was going on before the trucker strike.

Chief Sloly is passing the buck, and rightly so. This is a political confrontation, and it falls well outside his brief. Bringing in armed force to disperse the truckers would be incredibly stupid if the government is bluffing, and suicidal if it’s not. Let one trucker be taken down with force, and every trucker in Canada will go on strike in a matter of hours. The country’s collapse would become a foregone conclusion.
The only solution to this crisis is a vote of no confidence in the government, and it has to be brought on the floor of Parliament by one of the junior partners in the coalition.

Our military is a joke although individuals are great. It’s been totally decimated. We don’t have enough military to handle any kind of crisis. When our military goes into say a natural disaster their job is to organize civilians. Our military was inadequate to dig Toronto out of a blizzard. They can’t “take” Ottawa. A normal tow truck doesn’t have the power or equipment to tow a tractor trailer.
They are set up to tow cars.
The heavy-duty ones are. Even cement trucks with full loads. But there aren’t nearly enough of them, and I think most of drivers are experiencing repeated bouts of TruckVid.
Not the really big towing rigs.
They can handle a large tractor and trailer but it is time consuming.
Maybe the cops could just arrest the driver and take the keys assuming the engine controls haven’t been tampered with.
Depends on how the Tow is connected. If tow bar type arrangements are used a standard tow truck will do just fine or even another truck. Simpler arrangements can also be used to drag the trucks out fo the way for long distance towing later. ALL depends on the approach to clearing the obstacle.
Did similar jobs plenty of times as Cavalry Troop XO and again as a Squadron Maintenance Officer dragging armored vehicles. If a short distance drag is all that is needed, you would be surprised what can be done. Just need somebody creative and plan to lead the job.
A military guy running it like a drag and recover operation could do it no problem if the area is secure enough.
But how many knowledgeable and creative tow truck operators are there? And would they be willing to advertise that knowledge in this situation?

And they have to take these semi tractors one at a time without the trailers.
Then go back and move the trailers.
They must move the first few in line one at a time and I have seen hundreds of those tractor’s with their trailers lined up for blocks in Ottawa.
The military and RCMP would need to some how remove tens of thousands of Truck drivers and then laboriously move the trucks .
It is a logistical nightmare and the Trudeau administration did not think it though.
Perhaps they thought these Truckers would cave with a few ” We are going to arrest your rear ends” or ” We are going to send in the military”.
These Truckers and their supporters are not going anywhere soon.

A quick check tells me that the Canadian military has a bit over 60,000 active military personnel and about 35,000 in the reserves. There just over 37 million Canadians. ~105,000 military personnel versus 37 million citizens?

I guess the article I wrote in a previous article about the Oka Crisis in Quebec in 1990 when the military was called out to quell an armed protest wasn’t as out of touch as many thought. It included the famous picture of the helmeted Canadian soldier standing motionless like a statue and wearing American gear while an irate masked armed Mohawk was screaming threats and obscenities in his face only inches away.
An Army officer gave the Mohawks a last warning and it ended a potential bloodbath. Mulroney was PM. With Trudeau, he will likely give orders to attack with minimal warning. No long drawn out exchanges and no compromises with him. I also don’t doubt it’s possible Trudeau will declare Ottawa is under martial law and then begin the arrests and whatever other orders they are given.

The truckers are obeying the laws in Ottawa. After one exuberant night the truckers agreed no partying and no honking between 11:00pm and 7:00am. The word goes out it’s bed time and the truckers all go to their cans or hotels and go to sleep. This business about honking all night is fake news.

Many people will be genuinely scared, and rightfully so. And it is that power of fear that can thin out the mass which makes it easier to take things to whatever next level the government decides to take things. The fact that many may think it’s “unlikely” Trudeau would do this is potent. Unlikely is not the same as a strong and confident feeling that he would never do such a thing, and that possibility holds a lot of power. In addition, never underestimate a singular event (real or fabricated by an imposter) that can set things off in a way that allows the government to more easily justify their actions.
