Florida officials held an extensive briefing today to update on the planned demolition of the unstable elements of the Surfside condominium building so that rescue and recovery work on the collapsed building can begin again. Compounding the issues is the looming arrival of Tropical Storm Elsa; however, fortunately the storm appears to have taken a slightly more westward track and should be minimal for the Surfside, Florida, region.
According to local officials the demolition of the remaining structure will likely take place later today. In the interim the search and recovery work has been paused as explosive experts prepare to bring down the unstable remnant of the 12-story building.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke at the beginning of the press conference emphasizing the arrival of Tropical Storm Elsa should be watched carefully. Elsa now appears to be a west coast of Florida issue and will likely skirt up the western coastal area along the Gulf of Mexico. The entire South-West coast of Florida will likely see varying effects from a very strong tropical storm Tuesday and Wednesday.
Current forecasts put the entry track of TS Elsa slightly north of Tampa; however, Elsa is following the same predictive path from Hurricane Charley in 2004. Charley was predicted to come ashore just North of Tampa, but instead it made a quick turn over northern Sanibel Island and came ashore in Port Charlotte. Everyone on the west coast of Florida should pay attention [NHC Advisory Here]
You can never be over-prepared for dramatic weather events. If you take small actions now you can eliminate big stresses later.
I went to Florida that year to work the Charlie hurricane and consequently got hit by 4 more hurricanes! Global warming is a straight up myth, that’s just WEATHER!
To be fair, they changed the policy to “climate change”which would encompass all directions of the Mercury.
Now that Biden is in office we have another thing to worry about: Chump Change. It is what you are left with after his policies are enacted.
A naive scientist named Roger Pielke from Colorado published the actual data about climate change on Nate Silver’s web site Fivethirtyeight.com. The actual facts show that tornadoes and hurricanes have been less frequent in recent decades.
In response to the uproar from leftists, Silver promised not to allow Pielke to publish on his site again.
Pielke, the seeker of truth, had his career, if not his life, ruined for telling the truth.
The 1930’s and 1940’s had had record heat and storms. Much worse than today; by magnitudes!
I’m a surfer on the US East Coast and study these things.
We went through the longest period without a major hurricane hitting the US on record.
But it’s global warming or something? s/
Remember that glacier that had the sign: “This glacier will be gone in 2020”?
They had to take it down this year because the glacier was still there!
It’s now “Climate Disruption” or “Climate Justice”?
How can that be a thing?
Justice for climate? By whom? Al Gore?
Agreed it is cyclical. I moved to FL in 1981 and never heard about any hurricanes in FL until Andrew in 1992. There may have some and I just wasn’t aware but that is 11 years of quietness in the hurricane season. I was living in AZ when Charley and the rest came and I moved back to FL 16 years ago.
GODBLESS FLORIDA & GBYthe USA !
LET FREEDOM RING…OUST the DS !!
PDJT, 45 & 46 th. !!!
God bless and keep all the rescue workers and everyone in the path of the storm.
So sorry for the families who’ve lost their homes and their loved ones.
Any “secret” (non-touristic) place in Florida coast to visit?
I hear about Orange Beach near Alabama area, but it sounds so popular I would imagine is full of tourist this time of the year.
Does anonyone here know any cool place to stay for a couple of weeks near the beach away from the crowd?
I would like to spend my money in Florida. Contribute to the local economy there.
You are an extremely thoughtful and compassionate Patriotic American. I wish I had some suggestions, but I’m sure someone here has some.
Happy 4th of July and God Bless you and yours.
Look around the Cape San Blas area.
That could be a good idea; you can barely find it on a map.
Wow! That place looks amazing. Florida is a beautiful place.
Thanks.
From a transcontinental road monkey: everything is better after Labor Day.
Lots of places in the panhandle; or used to be?
It also depends on your lifestyle? House? Hotel? Condo? Camping?
Off season is less crowded.
Or go on the day after a big holiday. July 5th. Tues after Labor day. Everyone is gone or leaving and the next weeks groups haven’t arrived yet.
Check out the area between Appalachacola, FL and Port St Joe, FL. The beach areas are Cape San Blas and Indian Pass; no hotels nor high rises. A bit to the east of Appalachacola is St George Island; nice place as well, but a tad more crowded…this area is called “The Forgotten Coast”. Grew up in Alabama (and now back home in Sweet Home Alabama), and this is my favorite place on the Gulf of Mexico.
Topsail Hill State Park at Santa Rosa has a campground and some cabins. They have a private beach.
Ormond Beach, just North of Daytona is kinda quiet……
Here’s one live stream that’s been running for a couple hours…no doubt there are others out there….
“Demolition specialists carefully bored holes to insert explosive charges into the precarious, still-standing portion of a collapsed South Florida condo building that will come down to open up new areas for rescue teams to search.”
ETA, this stream has cut away as of 7pm EDT to the awaited news conference which should confirm the details of the demolition.
His Wife Died of Cancer. His Parents of Covid. Then He Sought a New Life in a Miami Condo
The home in Surfside was to be a gathering spot for visiting children and grandchildren, and his daughter and son-in-law were doing just that when they traveled to the condo last week from New Jersey to join him for the Sabbath.

Praying for victims, their families, the heroes working non-stop to find survivors, elected officials and the great people of Florida.
Add all the animals trapped in your prayers as well. It sounds like the building will be demolished w/o being able to rescue them. Understandable. But so heartbreaking. What a horror all the way around. Can even imagine what it’s like for these families. Just praying, praying, praying.
Seems petty infighting since 2018 prevented known needed repairs from happening.
My old neighborhood in Port Charlotte was “Charleyd”. One house not a scratch but right beside wrecked.
Not as random as tornadoes in Ohio but still unpredictable.
As I type I’m in my motor home between Port Charlotte and Arcadia so I hope not to see big wind…and my ground anchors won’t be set until after she visits. At least I’m self contained if any utility outages.
We moved to Anna Maria Island in 2001 from nj. Island was supposed to be wiped out from a direct hit from Charlie. We evacuated to a friends house in port Charlotte. I watched his pool cage and fence fly away as storm turned inward . When it was over a couple of hours later half the houses on the block hadvno roofs. He ended up staying with us in AMI (which had no damage). He had no electric for 2 weeks and he was one of the lucky ones. Am extremely grateful for accepting that I am not in control
Amen!
Back in 1970 or so in Boston, a new condo mid-rise was going up on Commonwealth Ave. in Brighton, near Boston College.
The building collapsed, and the bodies of the workmen were never recovered. The lot is probably still empty, as a permanent grave site. I suspect this will be the fate of the bodies and the site at Surfside, which is a much bigger edifice than the one on Comm. Ave.
Gather round children as I tell you everything you need to know about “climate change”: Its hot in the summer. Its cold in the winter. Goodnight.
God Bless all y’all!
Steve Lookner’s Agenda Free TV is live now, for an upcoming 6pm (east coast time) news conference, possible/pending demolition:
Yes, media briefing at 6pm local time and I’m reading demolition is scheduled between 10pm and 3am local time tonight……..
This guy is a radical leftist. I can’t stand him. He is best friend with Kathy Griffin.
DeSantis is steady, steady, steady.

The good news is, if there is any, the Loizeaux family and their employees can, if anyone can, bring the building down precisely and with sensitivity to the enormous loss of life there.
The news conference is late and if one doesn’t mind WaPo on YouTube, here’s the stream, currently awaiting start.
Five minute warning issued on news conference start.
Wouldn’t want it too late or they won’t be able to talk over the fireworks, heh.
“Climate Change” used to be known as “Global Warming” until the so- called Climate “scientists”
got caught red handed faking the data. The real data didn’t support any appreciable change in temperatures or the climate. So, in order to perpetuate the scam, the lefties, as they always do, played word games and switched from calling it “Climate Change” to calling it “Global Warming,” otherwise known as Global BS.
If someone’s already asked about this, and been answered, my apologies. A day or two ago my wife and I were discussing how hard this situation is for so many and it got us wondering: what are the insurance implications for the survivors from ‘across the hall’ who have been made homeless and whose possessions are intact, but lost to them, probably forever? Does anyone here have a handle on what the ramifications are of being turned out of your home in a situation such as this?
There have been several questions about insurance. There are no yes or no, black or white answers. Insurance is a legal contract between the company and the insured. It depends on the cause of loss, the type of policy the insured has and the state in which it is written. I’m in NC but I used to live in Florida. Florida has laws that stipulate certain coverages a company must include on property policies . One example is sinkhole collapse. I think or hope that is what they determine for everyone involved. It also depends on who the insured is, example would be owner of the unit or tenant. Coverage will differ for those two examples. It is almost impossible to answer a question about insurance coverage without reading the contract and knowing what the cause of loss is. In other words in may or not be covered.
Thanks for the insight. I appreciate it — hope you had a glorious 4th!
Keeping an eye on Agenda Free TV YT Channel.

Demolition expected between 10-0300 ET. This channel may not have the rights to broadcast footage, but the cool thing is he tells you where you can see it. Gonna keep an eye on this amid the mini-Mogadishu happening in our neighborhood tonight. Our rescue dog is not a fan of the boom-boom’s.
My dog doesn’t like the boombooms either. He’s a 7 year old yellow lab and just the best buddy, but disapproves of unidentifiable, random noises either close by or in the distance.
WPLG10 Miami is supposed to be setting up a CCTV feed for the media coverage of the implosion.
Looks like CDI put the building right where they wanted it to go. Nicely done!
They were right on the water…
I cannot imagine what these families are going through. How awful! How it did not have to happen.
Many will point fingers here but the underlying cause is local government allowing high rises in wet sand for tax revenue.
They broke all common sense rules for dollars and they ignored warnings of damage for same.
Ultimately they will pay more than they received in Court for ignoring basic safety issues.
