On the eve of the midterms, Susan Kokinda sets President Trump’s final message to Republicans, given to Benny Johnson (“be smart, be strong, love your country”), against Senator Elissa Slotkin’s September 30 speech at the Carnegie Endowment, where she called Trump’s America “the Titanic”, and her stage partner Anne Applebaum’s praise for the January 6 hearings as “constructed for television”.
Slotkin’s undercover-video remarks of October 29 show what her post-midterm “signature cases” would be: the White House ballroom and the Reflecting Pool. Kokinda’s review closes in Michigan, where Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens endorsed Republican Mike Rogers for the Senate, and sets Slotkin’s “corruption” narrative against the President’s moves on electricity for data centers, health care and drug prices, October’s new factories, and child and Hispanic poverty at record lows.

With all respect, some real disconnect here, in ElisSa Slotkin’s portrayal of the Trump view of the U.S. and in Kokinda’s take, missing the Slotkikn deception.
President Trump has spent hours, weeks, months, describing how successive former president’s have let the U.S. slide into decline; weak foreign policy, accommodation of the fear mongers, Orwellian drum beats against the hyper enemy “RUSSIA, Russia, Russia”, social decline, monetary mismanagement, the Green New Deal that tried to displace fossil fuels with Solar and wind, etc. etc. The examples Trump uses are the delipidated condition of the White House and the Reflecting pool, which were the mockery targets of the FAKE NEWS MEDIA.
Slotkin artfully turns this to Trump’s view of America now, not as it was allowed to become under the Uni Party. Trump has set a corrective course. Likely this will surface in tonight’s address. I just wish Susan Kokinda had caught the thread and made something of it.
