You are correct in that it is not a proactive direction. He can more easily push the Biden criminal aspect, but most importantly he needs to reassure people of his forthcoming plans, which are solid and reassuring.

The Biden camp has nothing to gain, only to lose by doing a debate. There are very few undecided voters at this point, so Trump has only 2 things that will give him a gain of any significance during a debate .
1. Biden makes comments that go against the Bernie, far left agenda and those people (who won’t vote for Trump anyway) stay home on election day.
2. Biden comes out and is a total train wreck due to mental problems. Trump could gain votes and/or Biden voters sit out the election.
The debate was supposed to be in Miami. The weather would have been great for a perfectly safely-spaced outdoor evening event at Marlins Park (baseball field), or Hard Rock Stadium (home football field for the NFL Dolphins and U Miami, also The Orange Bowl college football playoff game). The Marlins’ season is over. There are no Wednesday evening pro or college football games scheduled.

If I understand the format correctly, the moderator and audience will be in attendance at the agreed upon venue, and the candidates will be remote. If that’s the case, than why doesn’t the president just show up. How can they have a debate where everyone shows up except the candidates? And how can they deny him entry to his own debate?
And what do we know off camera. Joe with an ear bud? Scribbled notes pushed under his eyes? Assurance that “watchers” will be present so none of this happens.

If Biden and the Dems thought for a second they were actually in the lead, would they need to keep up the 24/7 insanity? Would they continue crying for more and better lockdowns and restrictions? And importantly… would they be as ANGRY and DISHONEST and HATEFUL and SCARED as they’ve been? If they were confident, wouldn’t they all now be laughing and joking and just enjoying the ride?
So from everything I’m seeing, I have to assume that not only the Rep internal polling is looking good for Trump/us… but so is the Dem internal polling. THEY KNOW.
