Senate GOP Leadership Warns Trump: Any White House Attempt to Dismiss Impeachment Charges Will Fail…

They are called “decepticons” for a reason. McConnell is king, and Cornyn, Thune and Barasso are his praetorian guards.  {Go Deep}

Senator John Cornyn (TX), a key member of the Senate GOP leadership; and a member of the Senate Judiciary and Intelligence committees; warns the White House that a vote to immediately dismiss articles of impeachment and avoid a trial won’t work.

“There’s some people talking about trying to stop the bill, dismiss charges basically as soon as they get over here. I think that’s not going to happen. That would require 51 votes,” Cornyn told reporters Wednesday. “I think it would be hard to find 51 votes to cut the case off before the evidence is presented.”

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A top Senate Republican, John Cornyn, said on Wednesday that should the U.S. House of Representatives vote to impeach President Donald Trump, he doubts a motion in the Senate to immediately dismiss the charges would succeed.

Cornyn, who spent years as the Senate’s no. 2 Republican, said such a motion would not receive the 51 votes necessary in the Republican-controlled Senate to pass. He said he was confident that ultimately, a vote in the Senate to remove Trump from office would fail. (read more)

Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, is one Republican senator who previously hinted at the possibility of advancing a motion to dismiss the articles of impeachment. However, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told GOP colleagues during a lunch meeting last month any motion to dismiss would have to come from the president’s defense team after the impeachment managers deliver the articles to the Senate.

…Senate Republicans, even though they control 53 seats, don’t think there would be enough unity within their conference to dismiss charges against Trump before the prosecutors and defense have a chance to lay out their arguments and senators have a chance to ask questions and deliberate. (link)

One of the problems in the Senate trial is the participation of the SSCI within the network of interests working to eliminate candidate Trump and then President Trump from office.

SSCI Chairman Richard Burr doesn’t go on an political targeting expedition like that without the approval of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.   Yes, it really is that simple.

To remind ourselves how Minority and Majority Senator McConnell took down the threat of the Tea Party revisit these old articles CNN Part I and CNN Part II  both showcase how McConnell works.   Then do some research on how McConnell worked with Haley Barbour in Mississippi [SEE HERE].

The Tea Party was a risk to McConnell in 2010-2014 the same way MAGA coalition is to McConnell in 2016-2020.   Take nothing for granted.

They don’t care about the Deplorable s. They only care about themselves and the establishment/elites! They want what they have had for decades, getting rich off the taxpayers. I agree there is no GOP without the Trump base. But they don’t care about that either. I think it doesn’t matter to them if the democrats win in 2020! Remember at their level there is no party……other than the Uni-party!

McConnell, Corynyn, and especially Burr, are scoundrels. The only thing they have going for them is they run against Democrats. Otherwise, they are against us. I’m a Texan and have written Cornyn several times trying to implore this limp man to stand for something. Hi weakness hurts us. He’s an establishment dupe. I’ve also called his office to suggest he defend the President and quit being a limp wrist. Doesn’t sound like that’s working. Burr is an American tragedy. I hope he drives drunk.

I just emailed Cornyn and blasted him for his weakness. I suppose he is staffed by other sycophants so I ripped them too. I told him I had yard signs in my yard for him when he ran for AG and US Senator. I told him many Texans are distressed by his tacit support of President Trump’s impeachment. Also said I would put yard signs and campaign for whoever runs against him in the next elections unless he changes his tune in a very public way. Also suggested he go on the visit the Conservative Tree House website to see how other Texans and conservatives view his cuckoldness and cowardice in the face of this constitutional crisis.

I say we start selectively cutting 1-2 of them out now even if it means sacrificing the seat as IMO PT will pick up 2-4 seats in the fall so this trade IMO would be well worth it and just maybe start to teach the other RINOS who is the real boss.

McTurtle is up for re-election as well and I, for one, would happily give up the leadership position to get rid of him – but it would have to be to a demonrat. That;s how closely I’m watching him and if he fails PT in any way in this farcical “in your face” ongoing coup, then I wil vote for the demonrat against him. What difference, at this point, does it make (hitlery, benghazi hearing) if GOP doesn’t support PT?? Not even where their bribes and graft come from is different – CHYNA to McT. through the money laundering CoC. Truly Uniparty with SE serving them. Or is it the other way around?

100% accurate and best way to help President Trump drain the swamp. If Kentucky and South Carolina BOTH also primary and defeat McConnell and Graham, there’s three TRAITORS gone……as long as the voters then rally behind the republican candidate in the general election.

The primaries are key to removing rino’s, as whomever the republican candidate is in the general election, we must support them in order to eliminate as many evil democrats FIRST, and THEN work more on cleaning out our own party.

No one has surfaced to take him on.

Cruz? As Use-Less as Cornyn – another member of The Dead Elephant Society. Use-Less defending this President he and others have shamelessly betrayed though he did appear with Glen Beck to hand out Teddy Bears at the border. Maybe the lashing Trump gave him in the primaries and more which to Cruz seems more important than losing the Country to civil war. He barely pulled it out vs. a spectacular moron “beto” in the closest Texas senate race in forty (40) years. Another Fraud like the “Frontier” womin Kay Bailey Hutchinson. The consuhvuhtives here delivered her, Bush 1, and Bush 2. Bush 1 aka “the elder” went for hclinton and it’s damn likely his spawn did as well. Worked out great, no? We have lots of problems here despite what some “think” along with the rest of the Country. Thank God we have Abbott, Patrick, and Paxton running the state. Good men. Go ahead senate, have your mock trial, do your public grandstanding, all just before your re-election hopes are decided based on your behavior over the last year. This crossed my mind as well. Sure go ahead and have the trial. This way Trumps team gets to call witnesses and cross examine. It would be a MASSIVE embarrassment for the left. Although if the media doesn’t cover it that way a huge portion of the public will think they have enough to impeach him and the senate will vote accordingly. Unreal.

I can’t tell you how many of my republican friends that don’t follow closely, text me yesterday saying “man this is a bad day for Trump”. It wasn’t until I sent out a slew of screen shots of tweets, youtube clips and CTH articles that all my friends changed their tunes and went on the offensive against Dem idiots they are surrounded by. The problem is they shouldn’t have had to come to me. Which many of my friends admit they do when they want to know what’s really going on. The MSM is VERY powerful at shaping opinions. If McConnell plays games with PT and this Impeachment we must take action IMO.

And the action I’m suggesting is we organize all MAGA supporters in KY and we sacrifice McConnell by asking them to vote democrat for just his Senate seat ONLY in Nov 2020.

There is a good chance that McConnell will run unopposed in the primary so to rally behind another Republican candidate may not be possible so thus this strategy.

There would be nothing McConnell could do to stop us and he would be gone come Nov 5.

IMO, We need to send a message and regain control of our party. PT is our guy and we expect unequivocal support of him.

I would gladly sacrifice a single RINO now in order to send a message and possibly get some of these other traitors in line.

Weeding them out is the only way and if they run unopposed this an option.

Yes short term pain for long term gain IMO.

    War is not easy.

Problem with sacrificing one rino is another will spring up to take his place once he is replaced. The problem is McConnell will be replaced by another hack like Burr or someone instead. The trick for now should be primarying rinos in safe trump states so we get more nonrinos to start voting for strong people like Jim Jordan for speaker and maybe someone like Josh Hawley or Rand Paul or John N kennedy for senate leader. By voting for democrat we give up our supreme court leverage which means no getting rid of illegal obama acts like DACA so it is a balancing act.

Very true. I worry about the down ballot races. Trump dragged a lot of Republicans across the finish line in 2016 via straight ticket voting. I voted my first straight Republican ballot ever in 2016 in part to make a point. Obviously, the number crunchers noticed. The Texas legislature is in play. Libs already occupy entirely too many local seats.

Wendy Davis in the US Congress instead of Chip Roy would be a horror movie. She is only $300k behind Chip Roy in campaign funding. Louie is safe. From what I’ve heard, libs have been piling into the western end of John Ratcliffe’s district. (That might be severed in redistricting after 2020.)

                Exciting times.

I don’t think this will ever even make it to the Senate. The reason why is because the Democrats cannot allow it. Once the House is done and votes to impeach Trump everything moves to the Senate where the Democrats immediately lose control over everything.
    >
This now means that their star witnesses, in the Senate hearings, will be looked at to be indicted. By Vindman’s own testimony, he states that he disobeyed orders, advised foreign governments to resist Trump, leaked internal information to others, and was actively working to subvert the president’s foreign policy. How does a military officer get away with this behavior?
    >
On top of that, the super secret whistle blower will be identified at which point America will discover how it was all a plant with illegal coordination occurring between him and Schiff and other Democrats. These revelations will destroy the entire story that no amount of spin can correct.
    >
Also, in the Senate hearings, we will hear about how there is no evidence. Everything the Democrats wants us all to believe requires assumptions, leaps of faith, and more, while actually lacking on any solid evidence. Their case will evaporate so fast and so completely that even Democrats in the Senate will be forced to vote against Trump’s removal. Should this happen, the Democratic party will cease to be a viable political force for the foreseeable future.
    >
This appears to be headed down a road that cannot be altered. Schiff will run with this until it becomes clear that he is making a fool of himself and the Democratic Party. At this point, the House hearings will quietly cease as the Democrats move on to Plan G (or whatever iteration they are up to now) which will be an effort to crash the economy. By crashing the economy they would hope to get everyone to blame Trump for the crisis while forgetting about the last nearly four years of mischief. Of course if this does not work, then there is always escalation on their part because, as it should be abundantly clear by now, today’s Democrats care only about removing Trump and, should they destroy the country in the process, then they would view that as acceptable collateral damage.

Agree. It’s a head fake. Democrat senators running in 2020 would miss campaigning in key primary states giving an advantage to non senate competitors. And it would enrage Trump supporters. Republican would be allowed to call witnesses. More Biden evidence exposing corruption…I don’t like Mitch but I appreciate his savvy here.

So if this goes to the Senate, then all the democrat senators that are running for president would have to recluse themselves. You can’t be a member of a jury and be able to vote against your potential opponent. It would be unethical. So Booker, Warren, Sanders, Harris, Bennett, and Kolbuchar would have to recluse themselves. That means there would only be 94 voting senators of which 52 are republican. So a majority vote would be 48 senators to not move forward with impeachment.

WE need to push the media and republicans to force these democrats to recluse themselves from the impeachment process.

If you are serious, primary the Rinos. Otherwise, it will be McConnells, Grahams, Romneys, Lees until there is no longer an America worth fighting for. In Canada, conservatives were led by someone who was that in name only. All it took to beat him was for Obama to announce to the media that he was endorsing Trudeau. The Cino lost because he was just that; he really didn’t stand for anything different. The Conservatives buried themselves long before the election when they chose the wrong person in the first place. Many conservatives stayed home rather than vote for Romney; were they right?

Reading a lot of paranoia here. I think Trump and McConnell want a trial, and I think there is a good chance Pelosi does not proceed with an impeachment vote. First of all, McConnell loves what Trump does for the judiciary. Trump is helping McConnell’s legacy in that regard. If Trump loses in 2020, McConnell no longer has that power. So, I think the impeachment fiasco will play right into Mitch McConnell’s, and therefore, Trump’s hands. As a result, Pelosi may seek to drop this altogether unless something huge we don’t know about comes out (it won’t). If the House votes to impeach, the case goes to the Senate, where the GOP holds the majority. McConnell can do one of two things…dismiss it altogether due to the lack of bipartisanship, or hold an actual trial. BTW, the SSCI would not hold the trial…the Judiciary Committee would, and Chief Justice Roberts would preside. Holding the trial actually plays into Mitch and Trump’s hands most. Why? Two of the leading Dem candidates for Prez are Senators… Warren and Sanders. Guess what they can’t do when there is a trial… campaign. Also, holding a trial means Trump and his team of lawyers get to call witnesses and present evidence. You can bet they’ll call on Hunter Biden and possibly even Joe Biden. Given that the IG FISA report is going to come out in the next couple of weeks, and it will make the Dems look bad, I think the odds are about 50-50 that Pelosi drops this. She needed to do this inquiry to satisfy the AOC wing of her base, but the end game is not good for the Dems.

They are ALL on the take. And when it comes to protecting those interests and themselves (from prosecution) they will stop at NOTHING regardless of how ridiculous it may be on its face. Evidence of high crimes and misdemeanors DOES NOT EXIST. And yet the House is proceeding and Senators are publicly announcing the coming impeachment trial. This is not about justice and is not recognizable as the workings of our traditional justice system. We should therefore not expect a majority of elected official to act rationally in their decisions. For those who have sold out the United States for personal gain, consequences worse than losing re-election is hanging over their heads. We the people are angry at their betrayal. The global mafia is not happy that they are losing money. Trillions are at stake.

This may be the time that the battle must come to a conclusion. I pray this an opportunity for the evil that plaques our county to be exposed and rendered powerless.

Committing to a Senate trial sort of forces the House to submit detailed charges as well as supporting evidence. If they come in weak to the Senate, as yesterday’s hearing was, they will be laughed at and then voted down, with the accompanying backlash come the election. Those 31 D’s in Trump districts fear that, and most have to vote it out of the House to go forward.

I thought Schiff had more, but he clearly doesn’t.

Yeah, McConnell hungers to destroy Trump, but a Senate trial ensures his hands are tied, and his caucus will be vulnerable if they vote wrong.

A senate trial is a necessary evil in this mess, then. But it all seems to have come about on Trump’s timeline. I believe he gamed all this out, and approached Ukraine with the words “Biden” and “Crowdstrike” with clear intent to trigger Deep State and the Swamp into a blundering response, probably including impeachment which they’ve always wanted to do anyway. He timed this out to kick off right when the D’s were in the midst of the start of primary season, knowing Deep State would lunge to activate a fightback, hurting all of Trump’s enemies in the process. Trump’s proven a brilliant strategist, and this all seems strategic to me.

This is like McConnell refusing to consider a Democrat nominee for the Supreme Court for a year until after the upcoming election. It’s politics.

McConnell and others are calculating that impeachment: (a) has no chance; (b) would be overall bad for Dems in the next election; and (c) will mess up a few Senators running for president, who would have to attend any trial.

That’s all this is. Political calculation.

McConnell, Cronyn, Thune, Burr and Barrasso have signed their political death warrants. We the People are not going to stand for this crap. Fortunately, several things are happening:
    • Nunes, Jordan and Ratcliffe are ripping apart the Democrats Impeachment effort in the Schiff hearings. That is good; I had feared truly a kangaroo court.
    • Lindsey Graham has said :
    A. There will be no hearsay evidence admitted in the Senate Judiciary Hearings. Meaning almost all of the evidence from the House hearings will be inadmissible. Graham’s point will be then if there is no evidence of wrongdoing, because all of it is hearsay, there can be no trial for impeachment which happens in the Senate.
    B. The Whistleblower must be named and confronted in the hearings to find out if he had any connection to Biden or Burisima or if he was coached by Schiff.
    C. Graham himself is writing to the previous Ukrainian President to check if Biden pressured him to drop the investigation of Burisima et al.
    D. Due Process is going to be upheld in the Senate Heartings.
    E. If it is found that Schiff coached witnesses he will be called to testify in the Senate hearings, which will further damage the case for impeachment.
    • The DOJ/ Inspector General’s report is due out before Thanksgiving, long before the Senate Hearings and it may also destroy the case for impeachment.

letter I mailed to Mitch McConnell today, cc’d Cornyn, Barrasso and Thune:

    November 14, 2019

    Mitch McConnell, United States Senator
    317 Russell Senate Office Building
    Washington, DC 20510

Subject: Reelection of President Donald J. Trump in 2020

    Dear Senator McConnell:

I would like to know why you thought that was the leadership thing to do to “warn President Trump: Any White House Attempt to Dismiss Impeachment Charges Will Fail . . . “

Why couldn’t you instead have warned your fellow Senators that IF there IS a trial in the Senate, President Trump will be given every opportunity to defend himself, as he has not been given by the House.

I just do not understand you sometimes. You have gotten those judges confirmed and that’s a great accomplishment but can’t you walk and chew gum at the same time?

Can’t you stick right by our President? Why are you even the Senate Majority Leader when you are not providing leadership to other Republican Senators and instead, you bring along three other Senators (Cornyn, Barrasso and Thune) to stand with you while you made that statement. It was infuriating that our Republican leadership in the Senate presented itself in such a weak and pathetic manner. It did nothing to enhance confidence that the President will receive a fair trial in YOUR Senate if it does get to that point.

It was totally out of left field, as if you were more worried about what President Trump might do rather than standing strong with him, as Republicans.

Please make a better show of it from now on.

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,
