The NBA championship had historically low viewership; NFL and NASCAR audiences are shrinking faster than Biden’s mental dictionary; and now the Über-woke ESPN announces another round of layoffs to stem the financial bleed. Yup, ‘get woke – go broke‘ continues.
(NJ.COM) – ESPN could lay off hundreds of employees in the coming weeks … One source pegged the potential number of job losses between 300 and 700 employees. Another estimated 400 possible lost jobs.
The cuts are expected to hit hardest among ESPN employees who work behind the camera. But some on-camera TV and radio talents could be impacted — particularly if their contracts are expiring this year. The network may also ask its highest-earning talent and executives to take a reduction in salary. The goal is to potentially cut tens of millions in salary, said sources.
[…] The job cuts would come as Disney — ESPN’s parent company — is bleeding money because of the COVID-19 crisis, which has slashed theme park, cruise ship and movie theatre attendance.
ESPN has shed payroll a few times in the last three years. It went through a pair of purges in 2017, which saw some of the network’s most popular on-air talent and some of its longest-tenured studio production employees receive pink slips. In 2019, ESPN the Magazine was shuttered.
Yeah RedBall, Rogers is a scumbag
I’ll tell you something, Walter Peyton was one of my idols, and I had the good fortune to hang with him a few times
One time, the first time I met him, was when my buddy was hired to play the guitar part for the theme song for a professional women’s basketball team
Walter played the drums, but was an amateur, and I went with my buddy to the recording studio. Who walks in to play drums? Peyton himself. He couldn’t figure out the drum parts, so I said “Walter, I’ll show you”
Now dig this. Walter Peyton sat on my lap while I held his hands and showed him how to play the part. He put his feet on top of my feet as I played the kick and high hat so he could get the feel of what the piece required
One of the coolest things in my life, but that was just something personal to me, and our country, our way of life and the American people will always be more important than some game
If Walter Peyton had ever sit on my lap, I’d have been permanently disabled. Thank goodness Neil Peart never suffered through such an experiment.
*sat*
Good bye and Good Riddance, I’m thinking ole Rush Limbaugh is going to outlast ESPN. Heck! He may outlast the NFL. If you think about it, his interactions with both of those organizations was a harbinger of what is happening now. They clearly pointed the way to where they were going.
The NBA, NASCAR, and NFL think that they can hide their true character and all will be forgiven. I think not. Those that have walked away have found they can live without them and know that no matter what those organizations say or do, they do not represent the values their former fans hold dear.
But NASCAR now has a “Michael Jordan Racing Team” to fire up enthusiasm for Bubba Wallace in the ‘hood–that’ll sure make a difference.
Wait ’til the homies in the ‘hood realize that NASCAR races aren’t ones where they time your 50 yard dash with a 96 inch big screen through the Target parking lot!
And yet, someone must be profiting from these fiascos.
They’ll blame Trump for the layoffs at ESPN! LOL!
The WNBA now has a better argument for equal pay since the NBA’s ratings are approaching the girls level.
On a side note, with the pro sports now playing, notice how athletes are catching the Chinese Flu, but there are no serious incidents. They confine themselves for 10 days and that is the end of it. Very interesting to see that it infects young people but if they are healthy and in good shape they have nothing to fear.
ESPN…Talent ?
Hahahahahaahhaahhahahahahahahahahahahha
They can all choke on their virtue signaling.
But I am also PO’d by the fact Soros is cackling about our sports traditions being blown up in smoke. The Left ruins and poisons everything. And Soros and the like are very happy with the dismantling. It was one of the things that brought Americans together.
There is Business Sense.. and there is Common Sense..
Business Sense can be learned..
Common Sense.. not so much..
Professional athletes and their masters sided with defending the deep state cartel Socialist Putsch..
But the problem with Socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.. and fans..
And money doesn’t grow on trees.. it comes from The People.. out of their pockets.. from their jobs..
and no jobs equal no money.. for the People.. or professional athletes..
and they still haven’t figured out that you don’t get the money.. if you have no Country..
no more fans.. equal no more money..
I know plumbers, electricians, mechanics, technicians, truck drivers.. and even pizza delivery drivers.. who are smarter than professional athletes..
because they don’t wear knee pads when they deliver their product..
Let me say, to begin with, that our immediate family has an All-State Football Quarterback, National Semi-Final College Football Offensive Lineman, State Semi-Final Tight End, and All-State Basketball Forward. Among those listed, there are 3 Bachelor Degrees and 2 Master’s Degrees.
Now, that you understand where I’m coming from, I hope that those “people” are now present “together” teaching and playing actual sports with their own children, local leagues, and schools, as opposed to sitting on the couch stuffing themselves with unhealthy food and drinking too much on “game days,” which, with over-lapping sports seasons (more games in order to pay those salaries), and 24/7 cable networks, had become far too frequent.
Cheering together for a bunch of paid sports performers is no substitute for having a real life! Let’s hope that husbands, wives, and kids are hiking together, discovering conversing with each other, playing cards, dominos, or board games – thereby developing their bodies and their brains, as well as creating some happy memories. That they’re reading good books, and, just maybe have time to learn what’s been going on behind the scenes in this country while, for far too many, the most important thing was watching sports and zoning out in a stupor!
The above was not meant to be critical of another Treeper. Instead, it was meant to address all those (and there are many) who have equated our ability to come together – either as a family or a country – to sitting on a bench or a couch while we stare at other people being active. That behavior has a lot to do with the dangerous obesity epidemic in this country. There’s also not a lot of time for developing meaningful relationships between plays or during half-times, which had become monopolized by “talking heads.”
Those who have caused a lot of people to quit watching professional sports may have done us a favor!
And don’t forget, listening to the record player every night.
Lol
Pro Bowling gets more viewers
Sports are entertainment. Simple. ?
Good Morning Treepers from the never-ending panic stricken ??
I am pleased to report that I have today “done my bit” by cancelling ESPN (over here included in BT Sport) from my cable package.
To be honest it wasn’t a difficult decision. Virtue signalling hosts, continuous running 30 on 30 (or whatever they’re called)! documentaries, pro-wrestling (seriously), something called the X Games and being expected to watch sport played in empty stadiums on pitches surrounded by blm slogans. I’m done with all this, they’ve lost my money each month and they’re not getting it again.
Our teevee was turned off March 15. It would have turned on for the Olympics. I have watched some Chiefs football and maybe an hour of NCAA football after turning it on this fall. The ESPN killer is Kapernick who is an attention hog.
We raised out kids going to the lake and sailing on weekends. No mall rats and no couch spuds.

This isn’t new they have bashing the USA and talking up the virtues of communist China for quite awhile. So I don’t watch or support in any manner. I needed a basketball for occasional exercise. Made sure it didn’t have an NBA logo so there would be no license fee for them. Unfortunately was made in China. Ugh. Is there one made in the USA.
Oh it was made in Vietnam,
We cancelled all sports packages from our Direct tv package and it went up.. A nice lady gave us $45.00 off for 12 months tho. Was worth it to make a statement.
Avid NASCAR fans BUT NOT NOW. Hope Bubba false hanging loop idiot. enjoys a sport he destroyed with lies.
Looking for some dirt track races to watch.
We need to keep up this punishment until every communist in this country is forced to leave and move to China. Let those communists play there.
If you cannot respect your audience or country then you are worthless. Let them all leave.
We need to also do this to all companies. Let’s make Nike go bankrupt. I see they are laying people off as well.
Washroom attendant is too dignified for them.
There is no apology that can redeem them. It will never be sincere and we can never trust this gutter scum again.
” In 2019, ESPN the Magazine was shuttered.” Sorry for the irrelevancy here, but some might get a needed chuckle out of this. Of all the get woke, go broke nonsense, the destruction of sports angries me up the most, but putting that aside– I grew up in New Orleans. I was a huge fan of Archie Manning as a kid (he graduated Ole Miss the year I graduated HS). Various life decisions found me living (here still) in the Indianapolis area so it was natural I’d become a huge fan of his kid that ended up here with the Colts, Peyton. (My grandkids were born in a hospital with his name on it.) At that time, I subscribed to ESPN the Magazine and it ran one of the greatest covers of a magazine, ever, IMHO. It was a tight close up of a battered, sweaty, old Peyton (he was only 23 at the time of course and hadn’t played a down in the NFL yet), wearing eyeblack and a Raiders jersey as I recall, and the story it was promoting was something like ‘Can QB Coach Jeff George Resurrect Manning’s Career?’ What a hoot. We all know how the kid’s career turned out. Pretty good I think you’d agree. 🙂
I made that cover. I worked for the mag for it’s entire run and made close to every single cover minus maybe 8 when I took vacation. Thank you.
I cut the cord last month.
28000 layoffs at disneyland CA… facist newsom has beef against disneyland CA this is leftist fighting their own. espen is communist sports propaganda outfit… in other words lip stick on a pig..
It will only help if the “Über-woke” and especially the “Über-woke” management are the ones let go.
An event, I seriously doubt. Because the earlier ESPN statement said they were going to “mostly” eliminate the politically correct stuff. That “mostly” indicates they prefer to go out of business.
I don’t subscribe to ESPN, nor have I ever subscribed.
