Our suspicions are slowly confirming.   The South Carolina political machine is working diligently now to protect themselves from a volatile situation they have created.

Grande Lum is the head of the Federal DOJ Community Relations Service.  As readers here are familiar, he is an Obama-like ideologue but he is also no dummy.  There is no doubt Lum has already recognized the dangerous position created by the South Carolina political machine who control SLED.

In our estimation the politicians in South Carolina have created an unrealistic public expectation in the Michael Slager case with an arrest for murder and no hope of achieving a conviction of that charge in court.

The primary mission of the State Law Enforcement Division [SLED] is to provide quality manpower and technical assistance to law enforcement agencies and to conduct investigations on behalf of the state as directed by the Governor and Attorney General(link)

It became obvious to us when we saw the 4/6/15 Arrest Warrant for “Murder” filed by SLED, a political entity reporting to the attorney General and Governor’s office, the SC political machine was setting expectations incredibly high based on highly dubious information.

In essence they reacted out of fear to the Walter Scott witness video without even interviewing the eye-witness before they filed charges.  Their reaction most likely based on an attempt to stop a Ferguson-like uproar, but they simply went too far.

The event happened on Saturday 4/4/15. On Sunday 4/5/15 eye-witness Feidin Santana talked to the Scott family. On Monday afternoon 4/6/15 Slager was arrested and charged with murder. On Tuesday 4/7/15 SLED talked to the eye-witness, Santana.

They SC apparatus has made the fatal mistake of appeasing the mob by OVER PROMISING, and setting themselves up for controversial UNDER DELIVERY.

While there is still so much to learn and understand about the evidence in the case, after a week of research it appears highly doubtful that anything remotely resembling a murder conviction is possible. But they’re already too far out on a limb for retreat.

So what are they going to do? I believe the answer to that question begins with the announcement of Judge Clifton Newman.

Walter Scott - judge

The S.C. Supreme Court on Tuesday assigned a judge from outside the 9th Judicial Circuit to preside over every step of the criminal case against former North Charleston police officer Michael T. Slager.

Third Circuit Judge Clifton Newman of Kingstree “shall decide all matters pertaining to this case” and will “retain jurisdiction … regardless of where he may be assigned to hold court,” Chief Justice Jean Toal wrote in the order.

The move came unexpectedly for 9th Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson, who announced the news Tuesday night on her Facebook page. Wilson said she had been informed by email. (read more)

Of course it came as a surprise, this is 100% damage control now. They (the DOJ-CRS and South Carolina apparatus) need to insure judicial credibility because a hopeless overcharge may lead to the collapse of their case.

Walter Scott - judge clifton newmanJudge Newman is just the right guy, with just the right civil rights credentials, with the impeccable racial support system, to absorb any claims of an unfair judiciary.

[…] Among his numerous accomplishments Judge Newman cites his designation as Patriarch of the Miles Newman Family as one of his most cherished. He succeeded his uncles, the late Senator I. DeQuincey Newman and Bishop Ernest W. Newman, as the leader of his family.

He is a member of the Ohio and South Carolina Bar Associations and is a member of the Executive Board of The I. DeQuincey Newman Institute for Peace and Social Change. (link)

On Facebook the institute is described thuslyThe I. DeQuincey Newman Institute for Peace and Social Justice seeks to continue the mission of Reverend I. DeQuincey Newman by promoting social justice through interdisciplinary education, consultation, and research at the community, state, national, and international levels. (link)

[Judge Newman] is married to the former Patricia Blanton of Cleveland, Ohio, and they have four children – Corwyn, Jocelyn, Kellee, and Brian DeQuincey. (link)

Judge Newman’s eldest son is soon to be family legacy baton owner Brian DeQuincey Newman (link) – Following in the heels of his father.

I. DeQuincey Newman Institute for Peace and Social Justice is a structural embed within the University of South Carolina.  Judge Newman is an Executive Board member.   Suffice to say the Civil Rights Cred of Newman is well beyond reproach.

An ideal choice.

It had to be someone like Judge Newman on this likely doomed-to-fail charge. If it were anyone else the Professionally Black Grievance Industry would be howling Fu*k The Police, Black Lives Matter, and decrying institutionally racist white conspiracy. Judge Clifton Newman, raised in a family at the epicenter of the civil rights movement, removes that problem.

I doubt it really mattered how far out of the jurisdiction he was located.  This case was moving wherever the Social Justice demands were going to be found. Newman gives the professional political class the right amount of cover regardless of what happens.

justice_scalesOf course this puts Judge Clifton Newman in the eye of the storm. How he navigates the hurricane force winds of political correctness and yet ensures that Defendant Michael Slager has the opportunity for a fair trial is yet to be determined.

Again, like all of the case aspects so far, the viewpoint of Newman’s assignment comes down based on your own ideological prism.   Some will see this appointment as a set up to railroad Michael Slager.  Others might see this as a move by political parties who are more, well, practical strategists; recognizing that within a courtroom justice can be color-blind and found.

Often those pesky courtroom facts can bring uncomfortable sunlight upon the truth.

Then again, the pound of flesh approach is a lot easier…
