Obviously, yet oddly, the New York Times tells the truth of who the Syrian Rebels are. Perhaps the intentionally mistaken reporting from Libya 2011/12 is giving them a few moments of painful reflection. Indeed, over the past two plus years the mistakes from the Obama R2P doctrine are no longer a debate, they are a reality.
The same ideological components which benefitted from the U.S led U.N. Libyan intervention are in play throughout Syria. al-Qaeda elements have played a brilliant game of getting the U.S. and the U.N. to destroy its adversaries. Now they hope to deploy the same strategy in Syria….
The current administration is filled with foolish ideological globalists. History will not write well of their consequences… Despite their efforts, eventually freedom will win, it is the natural demand of the human condition.
CAIRO (NYT) – In Syria’s largest city, Aleppo, rebels aligned with Al Qaeda control the power plant, run the bakeries and head a court that applies Islamic law. Elsewhere, they have seized government oil fields, put employees back to work and now profit from the crude they produce.
Across Syria, rebel-held areas are dotted with Islamic courts staffed by lawyers and clerics, and by fighting brigades led by extremists. Even the Supreme Military Council, the umbrella rebel organization whose formation the West had hoped would sideline radical groups, is stocked with commanders who want to infuse Islamic law into a future Syrian government.
Nowhere in rebel-controlled Syria is there a secular fighting force to speak of. (more…)
